Neil's crew did a great job. It's really amazing how much of a difference the insulation in our walls and attic makes. The crew were timely and cleaned up after themselves very week. I would definitely do this again as our house is so much more comfortable and we are using less energy! My only disappointment is the interior walls. We had Payless blow insulation into the interior walls to help reduce the noise between rooms. It didn't work as well as I hoped. We probably should have installed QuietRock in addition or instead of the interior insulation. read more

What a difference day (of new insulation,) makes. My step father is a contractor - handyman, he came to my house during Easter and noticed in the attic that I needed more insulation. I called Payless Insulation, and Nate came right over the following week to examine my attic. You talk about professional ?? Nate is awesome, he not only explained in detailed what was needed, but also identified the trouble spots which were leading to the cooling / heating issues in the house. Plus he left a great brochure which explained (with visuals,) what he was saying Payless Insulation would do. Additionally, I was able to freely ask Nate about questions I had and he always gave me the information that I needed. After the job was done, I checked over the work by the crew (who my dog loved as well,) and WOW was their work sooooo professional and spotless. They marked the attic so I could see the changes, they left info so if we sell the house one day, the new owners can see the difference in the attic. The day after they left it got up to 84 degrees outside, and you know what ? The AC only ran one time! The next day it got up to about 87 and the AC ran more frequently but I noticed this time that unlike before I had Payless Insulation come by, the unit did not run like it had. In the past the unit would run 15-30 minutes. Yep, I timed it because it's an old unit and I know it's days are numbered but I still like to monitor it like I do my car's engine. After the folks at Payless Insulation finished their work, the unit now runs for only seven minutes!! You heard right. I timed it. Each time it comes on it shuts off after 7 minutes. It only comes on a few times a day (if I want it cold in the house 72 - 73 degrees). The biggest notice I saw, when I left to visit a customer in Houston, I shut the unit off for three days. When I came back home, Austin had a warm spell, the house was not that warm at all, but I live on a small hill and if you open the windows you get a nice breeze. But the breeze was not cool enough, so I closed up the windows after airing out the house. Turned on the AC, 7 minutes later, the house was almost like an ice box! I am sure I had a shocked look on my face. Does insulation pay for itself ? I'd call that a big yes! Payless did a great job on my insulation for a reasonable price. They brought our insulation from 1960s standards up to current day standards and it has made a huge difference. We now usually just use our AC at night and can get through days in the 80s and 90s without even turning it on (even though I work from home). I wasn't sure if we needed insulation in the walls and attic with our bigger problems, but Nate told me we should be good with just upgrading the attic. He was right, it definitely did the job. read more

I had Payless Insulation come out with Green Collar energy. They both did an excellent job explaining the process, getting me an accurate quote, and the work was professional and well done. I had added insulation to get it up to R38 (was R12) from Payless. The workers were efficient, nice, and did a great job. They left a little mess in the laundry room (oh no...2 minutes of sweeping), but aside from that, very well done. I'd definitely recommend them. read more

When I saw Payless Insulation at an Austin home show, I realized they were the same people who had done a great job insulating the walls of our vintage wood siding house 25 years ago. Now I needed the attic done in our new house, because it had only the thin pink fiberglass batts. Now our attic is a fluffy pile of blown in recycled newspaper Celbar insulation that is fire retardant and helps repel insects. Robert, the installer, had 29 years of experience and went literally way out of his way to climb into the tiniest areas to blow the insulation in. Places the original builder had just ignored because they were too hard to get to to insulate. He carefully worked around the stuff we had stored up there, and they were super neat and put everything back just like it had been. They covered all of the front hall and the complete staircase in plastic. Then once Robert was in the attic, he taped a big piece of plastic over the attic door opening, so no dust or insulation would fall out into our living space. And the price was quite reasonable. Add me to the fan club. Seven years ago we bought a new house and our home inspector suggested we add additional insulation. I got a quote from another vendor, but it was more than we wanted to spend. Fast forward seven years and I finally call Payless. They came over exactly on time, gave me a written quote within an hour, I was on the schedule and my insulation was blown in a few days later. They collect payment after the work is done. It could not have been easier. They cleaned up after themselves and the very next day the rooms that had previously been uncomfortable were very pleasant to be in. I wish I had done this with Payless seven years ago! The only thing I noticed was a slight odor. I was able to clear it out in 30 minutes by running the AC fan. I called Payless Insulation because I needed information on adding insulation to my home. I was ready to spend some money in an effort to be sure that my new home was as prepared for the summer heat of Texas as possible. Nate called me back after I left my information and had a chat with me. I must stress, I did not use their services. So why the 5 star review? In this day and age, many companies out there are in it to make a dollar. I cannot blame them. I was ready to up my insulation value from R-38 to some higher value thinking it might help with my insulation and bills. Nate listened, then honestly told me I did not need more insulation. I DID NOT NEED MORE. This man put honesty and integrity above making a buck. Now, in my mind, that has to count for something. To me, most insulation is basically the same, but when I have a guy tell me that now only do I not need it, but what to look for and when I might need to think about adding some on, well, I respect that and I give him 5 stars for that honesty and integrity. It is good to know that some people put those values before money. So, if you are looking for honesty and someone that will shoot you straight...then I recommend them. read more

Don't waste your money, spend a little more and get something that works. I had it done and still don't feel any difference, in my electric bill either. Not a very service oriented. They left insulation covering my water heater and air handler that got into the condensate drain then plugged up an flooded the closet and all they said was oops, VERY disappointed. Heed my warning. Terrific experience with a professional company! After sending a message asking for an estimate, Neil called me the next day to follow up and schedule an estimate. Another person in the office called later in the day to make sure I had been taken care of too! Neil provided a written estimate the same day, and we discussed options for insulating the attic of my small commercial property plus recommendations for and against the different options. An installation was scheduled for a week later, and his crew spent from morning until the afternoon blowing in loose fill, insulating the hot walls, and making sure my office's attic was as insulated as possible given the structure's older design. At the end of the job, he called and made sure I was satisfied with the work of his crew. We moved into a 1950s home in Austin (Zilker) 2 years ago. We knew the house wasn't insulated, but we had a great HVAC system, so we figured it wouldn't be an issue. We were wrong. We couldn't get our house down to below 85 degrees during the middle of the summer, and during the winter, we had to keep the heater running 24/7. We eventually decided to spend the money and get the house insulated. We called around to tons of companies, and got so much different advice. Some contractors wanted to take all the dry wall out, insulate with fiberglass, at a cost of over $2000 per room (12x12 rooms). We were also told that "blow in" insulation wasn't an option as the foam can expand causing the dry wall to burst open. We were told that no one really puts blow in insulation into older homes, and that the foam is usually used in new homes, before the dry wall is put in. I was starting to lose hope that I'd find an affordable way to insulate my house, and after more googling found Payless Insulation. To be honest, I was skeptical because of the name, with the word "payless" usually suggesting sub par work.. (Sorry guys, being honest here)... Anyway, I gave them a chance, and a guy named Nate came over to do the assessment (which was free). He quoted me for all the exterior walls in the house, and the attic, and I was honestly so relieved when I heard the price.. Nate also suggested getting some weather sealing done on my doors, and some sealing of my AC unit (some cold air was leaking out).. The work was scheduled for the following week, and the guys came out and did everything in a day (attic and walls). There was a little bit of work for me to do afterwards. They were able to spray in cellulose insulation through the exterior walls, and the holes were plugged with wood plugs, which needed to be sanded and painted. I'm sure I could have paid someone to do this, but it really wasn't too bad. I covered the wood plugs with Elmer's wood filler, then waited for that to dry, then sanded (bought a $60 rotary sander from home depot), then painted a couple coats.. House looks good as new, and now the AC is only running 1/4 of the amount it used to. I am one very happy customer, and will be recommending Payless to friends and family. Payless recently installed insulation in my attic and I couldn't be happier with the quality of work and the great customer service. I had R20 insulation in my attic and nothing in the attic space above my converted garage. Nate came out and explained what I needed to bring both spaces to an R38. I'd already had several companies provide quotes so I had some idea of what was needed but I appreciated his attention to detail and patience when I asked questions. I received quotes ranging from $1,200 - $3,000 and while Payless wasn't the lowest quote they were at the lower end. I decided to give them a try because of the Yelp reviews, quote and the customer service I'd received thus far. I'm so happy that I did! The day prior to the install I received a call from Neil, an equally nice gentleman, to confirm my appointment. On the day of the install Eddie and another gentleman arrived to blow in the insulation. The process took a few hours and after it was over they made sure to clean up the area.
