Tried the newer Greek Tavern in Gainesville, GA and honestly, I went in thinking I'd get something traditional Greek... but the menu is huge and I got overwhelmed in a good way. They've got Greek, Italian, pizza, calzones, seafood, American -- pretty much everything. My husband got the Three Meat Skewers. I ended up getting the Stuffed Salmon Monte Carlo, which was one of their specials, and it was so good. Portions are massive. We brought home half our plates plus dessert. I asked the waitress if the cake was homemade -- she said the cheesecake and a few things are made in-house. The carrot cake and coconut cake slices are from a bakery, and they had just gotten those in today. Good to know. The place feels clean, warm, inviting, and honestly looks kid‑friendly too. The Greek owner was walking around checking on everyone, which I loved. Service was great. I recently visited The Greek Tavern and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. My order was not taken correctly, and when the food arrived it was cold. I let the server know I did not want anything additional brought to the table, but my request was ignored and more food was brought out anyway. I also asked for my salad dressing on the side, which is a simple request. The salad arrived overdressed with the dressing already on it, and the lettuce was warm and wilted. Service and attention to detail were both lacking on this visit. I hope management takes note, as these are basic things that make a real difference in a dining experience. read more

A mixed experience given our large party and the Saturday evening rush. Service was slow with only one server, our dishes came at separate times, and our need to repeat & confirm dietary allergens. Greek tavern upon entering its honestly very pretty. It's got a nice ambiance and vibe for sure. The service received was great as well. I ordered the Lamb Youfetzi??? I can't remember the exact name. That dish was alright. The orzo and sauce is really what turned me off. The lamb was great. My wife got a gyro and that sucker was delicious! New establishment, opened two weeks ago. So of course there's always room for improvement at a new establishment. However, this place is definitely on the up and up. Interior decor was definitely five star. The patio addition was a plus. We ate on the patio and it felt very good, especially being that it had a mesh covering so flying insects will not be able to bother you while you're eating. The cup of coffee was huge. Loves Ordered the fairly priced sausage, egg and cheese croissant along with the breakfast potatoes. No on the menu it does say that there will be a large portion of potatoes however I beg to differ. Great food. My wife and I ordered a variety of items from the ribeye to dessert and all items were great. My steak was cooked correctly and enjoyed the big selection of desserts. Restaurant was clean which is expected as it is brand new. Server was trying and did a decent job but it was obvious she had no previous experience as a server. Not very time efficient but she will learn. Also, if a customer is paying cash and the bill is $70 and I give you $100 and I say I need change. You don't bring back a ten and a twenty. So it made for a wait but as soon as we were sat the waitress came right away and our food came out fairly quickly considering how busy they were. There isn't much parking. My wife and I recently ate at Greek Tavern and had a wonderful experience. We shared the Greek Pizza along with a Caesar salad, and both were excellent. The pizza was loaded with fresh toppings, perfectly seasoned, and had a great crispy crust. The Caesar salad was fresh, flavorful, and paired perfectly with the meal. Great venue: the restaurant is large, spacious and well appointed. The food was great and the portions were generous. We had the Lemon Chicken soup which was tasty and creamy; the 3 skewer platter with lemon potatoes and the gyro wrap platter with fries. Everything was delicious and the steak was perfectly cooked (medium rare). Server was very friendly. There were some negative things that I would point out: There were only 2 of us and I ordered the 3 skewer platter which was SO HUGE that I only ate 1/4 of it. It came with a mound of gyro meat which wasn't in the description. The server should've mentioned that this entree was probably enough for 2 people. Instead, my husband ordered the gyro wrap platter AND the soup, and she didn't say anything, knowing that there was no way we could possibly eat all that food for lunch. Also, we told her we were splitting the bowl of soup, but they served it in one bowl, which made it hard to share. They should've split it into two cups or smaller bowls. First time here, restaurant is bright and modern but a hint of warm rustic atmosphere. They had great music playing as well! Not loud enough that you have to yell to have a conversation. Everything we got was 10/10. Our server Berlin was amazing and took such good care of us. My chicken plate took about 15 minutes longer to come out but she made sure to take care of us and was very apologetic. Reasonable enough, they were packed and have only been opened for so long. I loved seeing actual Chefs in the kitchen and someone checking every single plate before they got brought out. We had a chef come out and check on us which was refreshing. We were delighted to dine at the Greek Tavern on opening night! The Saganaki was fabulous with imported Greek cheese in filo dough. It was topped with fresh berries and preserves. The Spanakopita (spinach pie) was fresh, flaky, and delicious with the perfect balance of spinach and cheese. The single grilled Shrimp Skewer with fresh pita and tzatziki was flavorful and cooked properly. The gyro platter included a hearty portion of Greek Salad and fries. Absolutely amazing restaurant. A friend shared with us in January and we visit at least every other week. The owner George is very kind and enjoys meeting his guests. Today we came for the first time for breakfast to celebrate a birthday and we got a complimentary cheese cake! Everything at this restaurant is always so good. The staff is so nice and the music and ambiance are very comfortable and relaxing. I would recommend this restaurant to anyone! The food was ok with very large portions, and the ambience was pleasant. I wasn't a fan of the gelato but I could be biased since the last gelato I had was in Italy. The service really stood out thanks to our waitress, who was very attentive and friendly. Parking is limited for a restaurant of this size. Excellent food! My brother and I were both blown away by our lunch here. He had the baked chicken with roasted potatoes, I had the moussaka. We were both extremely pleased with our orders. It was delicious, and the portion size is plentiful. We ate on the patio which was very nice. There's not much parking in front (we had to wait on a space and the space is really tight), but i think there was more parking in back. Next time I'm in Gainesville, I plan on going back. read more

Lexi was our server and made sure everything went well. I had to try the pizza oven, so I had the Greek pizza. My wife had the lemon soup and salmon salad. My daughter had lemon soup and spanikopita. Clean modern interior with a lot of open space. Coffee and dessert bars with a great selection of each. If you are near Gainesville you need to try this new addition to the downtown dining scene. As with all restaurants, the food is the most important element. Therefore, I will make the non-food review quick. The service was good, atmosphere was fine. Beginning with the appetizers, we ordered the calamari and the ricotta meatballs. The calamari was excellent, very tender with a good breading. The marinara dipping sauce was fine. I like a little bit of spicer marinara with calamari, but that's a solely personal preference and I won't use that against anyone. The meatballs were good, but a little under seasoned. The soups were a very mixed bag. I ordered the seafood bisque. It was good, however the flavor of what looked and tasted like imitation crab brought it down a little bit. The chicken lemon soup was okay, but one was cold when it was brought to us, and the other was hot only in the middle. We also ordered a margarita pizza. It was good, but I would definitely recommend asking for it to be double cut because the slices are big. Finally, the gelato was also pretty good. We ordered the salted caramel, pistachio, and coffee. They tasted homemade and all were some degree of good. Overall, a lot of hits and a lot of misses. A lot of the dishes just needed a dash of salt. Not an abundant amount, but just a little to help fill out the flavor profile. Also, the temperature on a lot of the food needs to be warmer. Lukewarm soups and a warm, but not hot, pizza is off putting. A health score of 85 (discovered after the meal), with some of the marks being against food temperature corresponds with these concerns and need to be corrected. read more

However, the Spanakopita and the Spinach and Artichoke Dip I found scrumptious. The case full of desserts looks mighty inviting, although I did not partake. The restaurant itself is very nice. The decor is super meticulous. Our server so was so kind. The food on the other hand was not so good. I ordered a chicken Marsala and I could not eat it... so flavorless. The sauce was almost gelatinous. My waiter was so kind to offer another meal because she noticed I barely touched my plate. The potatoes were greasy and very mushy. It was $50 for just myself. They don't have alcohol so that was for just food and a soft drink. Early dinner on Saturday! We chose to eat on the "screened in" patio. Nice spot! Weather was great! Service was prompt and attentive. Started with Greek Salad. The lettuce was cold, crisp and the vegetables were fresh. Dressing was delicious. For the entree, my wife and I split the 2 Beef Skewers and added Greek potatoes. The beef was well prepared and the potatoes were "fantastic." We finished the meal off with a chocolate brownie. The portions were good size and big enough to share. Once again the owner came by our table to welcome us to the restaurant. Nice touch. The only "hiccup" is the parking is difficult. It would be great if they had a parking attendant on site to help.
