Alpha Gyro Grill is a solid spot for fresh, flavorful Greek food in Gainesville. The gyro platter was generous, with tender meat and plenty of tzatziki, and the pita was warm and fluffy. I also tried the Greek salad, which was crisp and nicely dressed. Service was friendly and reasonably quick even though they were busy at lunch. The inside is casual and clean--nothing fancy, but comfortable. Prices are fair for the portions you get. I would have loved just a bit more seasoning on the fries, but overall the meal hit the spot. I know this has been here for years now. First visit. I don't eat out much in this area but I'm excited! Stopped in on a Saturday around 6 and ordered food to go. Place didn't have many patrons when I came in. Customer service was really good! The guy at the counter noticed what I ordered and let me know about some vegan options. Even down to telling me about one option that included honey I case I didn't eat it. I love the attention to detail. Got a good variety of food. Veggie wrap - with the eggplant dip. They were out of hummus which was fine with me. I kept going back and forth between the veggie and falafel wrap. Landed on the veggie wrap. Glad I did, I really enjoyed this!! The portion size is pretty big. All the flavors mixed together well and it was delicious. Will definitely be ordering again Falafel- ordered a side because I wanted to see how they tasted. I can say that these were my least favorite. I'm not sure if they were overcooked but that lacked in overall flavor. Grapeleaves - Loved these. I only ordered two but found myself wanting more. The chicken wrap was really good. Large pieces of chicken. A meal in itself. I got the Greek potatoes as my side they were fresh and tasty. The hummus was simple not overly seasoned. Fries were battered and very good. The pita warps do not come with a side so you do end up paying more for sides and add ons. (I paid extra price for sides and feta. Was a bit pricey. ) The wrap was the best and fills you up so next time I won't get all the extras. You order at the counter they give you a number and bring the food to you. I have eaten Gyros regularly for 50 years in Usa, and Europe. This is the best Gyro I've ever had. As good as I've had in Greece. The home made Navy been soup is great and the lemon chicken soup is amazing. If you're in Gainesville Ga. I hope you stop in here. You won't regret it. read more

Who would've thought that one of the best falafel's in the continental US would be located in Gainesville, Georgia? I saw the rave reviews, so we had to try it. This place did not disappoint. For Gainesville, they seemed a tad bit on the expensive side, but the food was delicious, fresh, and filling. Their lemon potatoes were super soft with a ton of bold flavor. The falafel itself was extremely moist and well seasoned. It was fried perfectly, and was accompanied by a variety of fresh ingredients, all wrapped up into a warm pita. The gyro was very fresh and flavorful with perfectly toasted pita, seasoned meat, crispy lettuce and tangy tzatziki. I wanted to finish it all because it was that good! The reason I don't eat here more often is the price. This gyro cost me $15.25 with no sides or drink. I always order feta on my gyros (feta should be standard) and Alpha charges $3.25 for a couple of triangles. Extra tzatziki (no one puts enough) is $1.50. But, I will be back again. Yum! read more

Can't get enough!! This is a favorite for a quick stop every time I have to come through Gainesville. If I'm in a hurry or just craving some gyros this place is the spot. I'm amazed that I hadn't reviewed Alpha before today as I've eaten there many times since moving to Gainesville six years ago. I'm a member of a men's lunch group and we hit Alpha several times a year. This time the staff was great, holding our orders and putting them into the kitchen at the same time (you order at the counter and our group arrives over 15 or 20 minutes). All of the greek dishes are amazing and authentic. The quantities are huge, and the staff is friendly. My only negative is the only drinks are bottled soft drinks from a cooler. And parking can be a challenge - that just means you have to get there early! read more

Having lived in Greece, it is often times difficult to find a truly authentic Greek restaurant. Christos' establishment delivers some of the best authentic Greek food I've had in many years. This is the best Greek food I have had since moving to Atlanta 37 years ago. (lived in MA - great Greek food there) The homemade lentil and lemon chicken soups were superb. OMG. What a find!!!! I have driven by this place forever and wanted to try it. Why? Because I love a good gyro! What I found was so much more! It was an amazing full greek restaurant! It looks so basic from the outside and is super hard to get to due to the way the roads are there at the intersection. But trust me. Figure out how to get here and go now! So, I got my gyro. It was huge and super yummy with fresh ingredients. And the case was full of amazing desserts and stuff. And they had Pasticio. Huge pieces. So I got some. OMG! The best I have ever had. While I have mixed feelings writing this review , here it is . I eat here often , Food is mostly good , just don't go right before closing time , the gyro plate , and pasta dishes are well prepared. Service can be hit or miss as well and they often get orders wrong or at least for me anyway . And it usually seems to be my fault somehow . The food dishes in my opinion are over priced for the very small portion sizes you get . 3 potato wedges as a side , a side salad the size of a cup for $7 , And if you add anything to any plate /platter be prepared to pay dearly for it , add a meatball the size of a golf ball and it's $5 each with tax , a tiny cup sized side salad $7 , etc etc etc . I often feel like I'm being nickel & dimed every time I go . And the desserts are also very small portioned for the price read more

Real Greek food is hard to come by in Georgia period. Coming from New York I think I can tell a good gyro from a bad one, and I must say the gyros here are legit. I ordered the steak and chicken gyro. The pita bread was nice with a little crunch, not soft and soggy. The steak was not over cooked and chewy, the chicken gyro was perfectly seasoned, and the tzatziki sauce was on point. All though I'm used to having gyros completely stuffed with meat goodness, I do feel like there could be a little more meat inside. But all and all they gyros are superb and I will go back.
