This is definitely the lunch spot on Newbury. Great upgrade from the Chipotle lifestyle back in DC. The interior is quite clean and minimalist. Love the white toned colors and the bright mood inside. The staff is super friendly and quick on service. Been coming here recently and tried the plate with beef and lamb with fries. The fries are absolutely delicious - crunchy and crisp. The pita bread comes on the side so if you're a carb hungry monster this is your calling. The protein was pretty standard - definitely had softer elsewhere but still a solid choice. I went with cretin their salad with beef, and it was probably the best salad I'd had in the last 4 months. The flavor was just so on point. The arugala and garbanzo/kidney bean combination worked in a way that provided a subtle base to the savory meat- which was seasoned in a way that brought the meat and whole dish to a higher level. The sundried tomatoes were also a work of art, as when combined with the white wine vinnegrette, gave way for a slight acidic touch to the already complex salad before you. If there is a single flaw to be found here, I'd say that it's they can get a bit aggressive in terms of the sauce/dressing used. As seen from the photo below, the tatziki offered was way too much. Even after scaping off around 2/3 of the sauce offered, there was still plenty left to cover the rest of the salad. I'd just recommend asking for the sauce on the side and adding to taste. read more

I've passed this location on Newbury multiple times and it was always crowded so I was excited to try Greco. I got the Crete salad with lamb and tzatziki and it was delicious. They gave a generous amount of lamb and tzatziki and they paired really well with the lighter Crete salad. I went on a weekday and by 7 PM almost every seat in the restaurant was filled and several people came in to pick up takeout. The atmosphere was very casual. Have been to another branch of Greco in Boston in the past year and was very impressed by the quality of the food offerings and the generous portions. Ordered the family meal which worked out to be approx $45 and it easily served 2-3 hungry adults being gluttons. Included lamb/beef gyro and chicken shawarma as well as two grilled lamb chops (a personal favorite), two beef/meet kubbpdeh (we are used to them being long sausage shaped grilled lamb but this was more like a burger), Greek fries and generous portions of a spicy feta sauce and a Greek style yogurt sauce plus a large grilled sausage on top and a bunch of grilled and sliced pita wedges to scoop up all of that goodness. Lots of food but probably not a good choice for your vegetarian girlfriend or loved one but a GREAT choice for those carnivores among us - it's a solid treat ! Ask for ice when you get the self serve water, grab a table outside on the patio and check out all the fancy people and students and it's a great summer evening dinner joint ! I went classic pork gyro, which is a hearty portion of shaved pork gyros on a warm pita with tsatziki, tomatoes and onion. Bonus: nicely crisped fries in varying quantity (a lunching colleague snagged twice the volume in their wrap). Beverages include imported cans and bottles, soft drinking anything from tea to lemon sodas. Refreshing! The best value comes from the plate option: the most expensive at $11, but ample in serving size, and getting the zucchini chips as a side option is straight baller country. Get them. Such an amazing spot for lunch! If I lived here it would definitely make my lunch rotation at least once a week. You can go with a pita, a salad, or a plate, and to maximize my ingredient options I went with the plate with chicken, charred eggplant, tzatziki, and zucchini chips. All of the elements were excellent, but I was most impressed by the zucchini chips, which were crispy and not oily, and perfectly salted. The portion was super generous and I was absolutely stuffed afterward. It's probably for the best that I forgot to order some of the loukamades, or Greek street style doughnuts, as a dessert because that probably would have taken me over the edge, but they sure looked tempting with all of their different fillings! Definitely trying them next time. Finally the service is fast and efficient. The lady running the register was a pro with our large order, and friendly throughout. The guys making my plate forgot my tzatziki and seemed suspicious when I asked for some on the side, and they didn't apologize or anything for their mistake, but they gave me a generous side of it without too much hassle. As soon as you open the door, the smell of the food draws you in. I went to Greco with a group of 4. Service was fast, the woman at the ordering counter was very nice and the food that came out was amazing. I had the vegan shawarma with a side order of fries. The pita the shawarma came on was warm and tasted fresh, the veggies were fresh as well, but the real star was the shawarma. It had great texture, sauce and tasted unique. A lot of the time places will just used packaged vegan meat, toss it in house sauce and serve it as the vegan option. That is boring and doesn't draw recommendations from vegans. The plate is a hearty portion and comes with a meat (I had lamb), side (zucchini chips), pitas, and dip/sauce, plus tomato and onions. I got the spicy feta spread and it was seriously tasty - spicy and tangy. The lamb was a bit dry, but the spicy feta balanced that out. A bite with the lamb, spicy feta, onions and tomato on a pita was the perfect combo. Also, get the zucchini chips because they're crispy and amazing. Awesome place for a flavorful meal! I only wish I lived or worked closer! I ordered the Chicken Salad with Spicy Whipped Feta, per the recommendation of the staff. The salad was heavily dressed yet still refreshing. I'm always wary of ordering chicken because it can be dry, but the chicken here was super juicy and before I knew it, I had cleaned my plate. I'm personally not a big feta gal, and only got the Spicy Feta because it was recommended by both the staff and the reviews. And it WAS quite tasty, but my recommendation is to stick with what you like. I think I might have enjoyed the grilled eggplant or the other sides just a bit more. Gre Co is a good option when you want to get some quick, cheap and satisfying Greek "street food" around the Back Bay Area. The offer Classic Lamb and Pork Gyros as well as meat plates and salad. The Gyros are tasty and portions are big! However, I find them difficult to bite into and yes, you will feel guilty if you actually finish the whole thing. So... in an attempt to add in some healthy elements - my go to choice at Gre Co are the salads. Don't get me wrong - I am definitely NOT just getting a plain salad. Instead, I always go with the "Build your own" option (or what I call a Salad Bowl). You get to pick from one of the 3 salad options (my favorite is the Horiatiki), then add a protein (I like the chicken, lamb, or the squash fritter), and a sauce (Charred eggplants or Spicy feta are my top 2 choices). It also comes with fresh warm pita. And all of this for only $9.5! Cheaper than most salad places around Back Bay and the food is much more filling. If you like sweets, I would highly recommend the doughnuts for desserts. Although they are a bit pricy comparing other items on the menu ($6 dessert vs your whole meal of $8-$10), they are totally worth it and definitely not your average doughnuts. My favorite is the "Yaya's" which comes with hot hazelnut praline (Nutella in a more liquid form) and Oreo crumbles - they are unbelievably delicious if you eat it right away while they are still freshly fried and hot! read more

Stopped here when I was working in Boston and had only 30 minutes to spare for lunch. It was small and cute inside, and some outdoor seating. It's Newbury st so I wasn't even expecting that! I love Greek food and this place didn't disappoint. It had a foodi twist on the classics. I got the pork gyro, and although there was some initial confusion with my request that it be dairy free, they were happy to oblige. The woman taking the orders let me know about the two sauces that had no dairy, and I ended up with the tomato paprika option. It also had hand cut fries, onion and tomatos in it. It was delish. I would always have their wrapped gyro sandwiches with lamb and they added french fries in the wrap. This cute restaurant knows what it's doing! I always come here and get their pork plate and I am never disappointed. Their meats are very flavourful and juicy, even their vegetarian option (the one I had was like a fried zucchini pancake) was equally delicious. Their plate also comes with a choice of sides -- their fries are really good and they top it off with a generous amount of feta, and their zucchini chips are super tasty and interesting. I'm always craving Gre.Co because the pork is soooooo delicious, but I always have to refrain myself because they are quite pricy ($13 for a plate that is filling, but not comparable to other restaurants). Easiest 5 stars! I ALWAYS get the same thing - Cretan salad with Veggie + Charred Egglant. It is AMAZING - so fresh, light, and delicious. I have tried the zucchini fries as well and they are a+. When ordering don't forget to double check that you got pita because their pita is a must have. In terms of seating, there isn't an ample amount of seating. I usually do take out or pick-up. There is patio seating for warmer days, but again not a surplus of seating. You sometime have to hover around the area and just wait for a table to become available. This weekend they had free coffee frappes - the caffeine is STRONG so beware! Although I didn't have the donut myself, whenever I'm there I see people eating them and they look TO DIE FOR. Pretty fast and tasty, but just okay for the price. With the plate + tax it came up to about $13, which I suppose is average Newbury St. food pricing. You get one sauce and one side along with protein and pita bread for the plate order. For proteins, choices are Pork, Lamb, Chicken, Bifteki (ground beef) or Veggie. I went with the Lamb and had it with a side of Charred Eggplant and Zucchini Chips. I found the plate to be really tiny. For that price, you can get a bowl at Poke Bento just a few minutes walk away. There isn't much seating in the place itself.. more of a take-out joint. Although the zucchini chips were amazing, I personally won't go out of the way to come here again. Been to this small Greek restaurant several times as I work nearby. My ethnicity is Greek so I can be critical of many Greek restaurants in and around Boston. This place is a gyros focused eatery but does have several old school traditional dishes as well. I am well pleased with their gyros as they are as close to the ones I used to get in Greece. They include the fries in the body of the gyro...which I love. Their tzatziki is very well balanced (not overly garlicky) and the pork meat is tasty. Portions are nice. They also have lots of traditional Greek sweets...baklava etc. Of all the gyro places that have popped up recently, this place takes the prize. Too many of these other joints try to be to cute and fusion focused rather than making the food as authentic as possible and with the appropriate ingredients. Not much in the way of parking and such so a walk is the best option. They also have a small street level seating area. read more
