They have perfected pizza! We each (3) had a dessert. The baklava - homemade by the owner's wife. It was on thicker/layered side and melted in the mouth. The rice pudding - also homemade. I've had their pizza, and it's ok. It's greasy, and has a cracker like crust. Solidly in the realm of greek pizza. the sauce is a little sweet, and I don't think I will ever get over the fact that they put the toppings under the cheese. That said, it's decent. For what it is. But you're talking to a guy that accepts pizza variety and likes all types of the circle of bread with sauce cheese and toppings on it, up to and very much inducing the pie form that is made in Chicago. That said, what they do, they do WELL. It's Greek. It's all Greek. And it's good. The last couple times I've gone I've had the Chicken Gyro platter. You get a salad, a chicken gyro, and fries. There's a lot of food here for $12. I've also had the Chicken Parm sub, which was good. (But not the best chicken parm I've ever had.) The fries are good, and crisp. the salad is mostly iceberg, but there are peppers, tomato, onion, cucumbers, LOTS of Feta, and a dolmathakia. Delicious. Lots of dressing choices, too. Classic diner that's friendly, very clean and delicious. The waitress & staff greeted most guests by name, that's a great sign to me. The name says pizza, and lots of ToGo orders went out the door; but the menu includes chowder, soups, grinders, gyros, salads and a nice range of Italian dishes. We ate every last bit including salads, soups, gyros and hot, crispy fries. All portions were generous for a very fair price. After a long day at Mohegan the 2 minute drive to this little oasis was well worth the stop. We'll definitely be back. After a night checking out a new gaming venue at the casino we decided to go have dinner at an old school greek family pizza house. We decided on Great Oak located on West Thames Street here in Norwich. We arrived about an hour prior to closing time and upon entering we were cheerfully greeted and told to sit wherever we wanted. We were given menus and the server took our drink request. When the server returned with our beverages we were ready to place our dinner order. We ordered a meatball calzone and a pepperoni pizza. I must say the meatball calzone did not disappoint. Perfectly seasoned meatballs sliced and combined with shredded mozzarella cheese, whole milk ricotta cheese, wrapped in light and crispy pizza dough, and baked to perfection. Equally as good was the pepperoni pizza; a perfect amount of sweet and tangy tomato sauce spread on their outstanding dough, then a layer of shredded cheese followed by a layer of sliced pepperoni and topped with a final layer of more shredded cheese, and baked to perfection. Our server and the entire staff never made us feel rushed, the atmosphere and the quality of our food made this a perfect ending to a great night. read more

I asked up front hopefully you don't use thick ham on your Grinders it's gross . I was told no they do not . The Pizza was undercooked and soggy and raw and the Grinder was over loaded with old ham and dripping with oil . Inedible threw in the trash . We are from out of town, and chose Great Oak Pizza because if it's proximity to our hotel and the many rave reviews. What a surprise to find our experience was contrary to what others had experienced. The service and the wait staff are top shelf - but the pizza and salad fell flat. Amazingly, the crust had kind of a chalky texture and had virtually no flavor. Over all, the pizza was blandish, slightly over cooked and was very skimpily topped. The salad was coarsely chopped iceburg lettuce with literally 3 slices of cucumber and 2 slices of tomato. How so many previous customers rave about how "wonderful" the pizza is perplexes me. Price wise, they were reasonable, but all in all the pizza we had was barely a notch above Little Caesars. They do offer a large variety of food, so obviously I can't speak for the entire menu, only what we ordered. 2 stars for the service, otherwise it would if been a single star read more

For an appetizer, we ordered stuffed grape leaves. They are a Greek dish that consists of rice and herbs stuffed into grape leaves. The ones here are homemade and delicious. If you've never had them before, I suggest you try them! They are somewhat sweet and a little sour but the taste is almost undescribably good- just try it and you'll know what i mean. For the main meal, I ordered eggplant parmigiana, which is one of their most popular meals. It was very, very good. The marinara sauce was excellent and they put just the right amount of cheese. The eggplant was not too chewy (like some eggplant dishes). My mom ordered a chicken gyro that she thought was delicious. For dessert, they have a few greek desserts like Baklava and greek pudding. However, we tried their chocolate cake after someone recommended it. Normally i don't like cake because i think its too sweet, but this cake was decadent. I'm a bit confused. I have always loved Great Oak Pizza. Everything was always great. We ordered pizza and potato skins tonight but there was something off with the pizza. I don't know if it was the cheese or what...but there was definitely a change. Also, the potatoes skins, which use to come with 3 halves of potatoes can in halves and quarters...plus the taste and look was completely different. Did someone new take over Great Oak? Why the change? Can things go back to the way they were? If not, I will have to find a new pizza place. read more

Tried this place with really no expectations because most places that we have tried that "all the locals recommend" were disappointing. We were pleasantly surprised! My husband got a pepperoni and sausage calzone, I got the chicken parmigiana grinder. We were very happy that everything wasn't drowning in sauce (which was very tasty!) Really nice place, easily the best Greek-style pizza I've had yet. They use quality Italian plum tomatoes so the sauce tastes tangy and fresh. The crust is very good, it is thick and crispy on the edges but soft on the inside. The pizza was pretty wet and messy, but it's worth it for the flavor.
