Stopped in down the street to charge my car and decided to give Great Basin a chance again to fill the lunch void. This time, left totally happy, the sandwiches are fantastic and the take home sourdough bread made a hell of a trip sandwich for dinner. Our favorite was by far the Muffuletta Sandwich, packed with meat and flavorful as can be. The rest of the family got BLAT's (Bacon, Lettuce, Avocado, Tomato) which were good as well, but the Muffuletta is really the way to go. We got a cookie again this time, the Lemon Butter, and this one seemed way better than last time. Maybe the recipe changed or maybe last time was just a fluke. I will for sure stop here again for lunch as we pass though. Only time I am actually in Bishop is going to and from LA/Reno, but I always charge in the lot behind Great Basin.

Great Basin Bakery is a wonderful bakery located in Bishop on the way to the mountains. This spot is super popular and for good reason! They are serving up delicious and fresh and sandwiches. Also they are known for their cookies and fresh baked breads. It's a must stop for a causal breakfast or lunch. This bakery is located downtown and our GPS got us here just fine. We parked on the street and walked quickly across to the bakery. Pro tip is to order ahead online. When we got here there was a line about 10 people deep. We were able to bypass the line and go to the back where their pick up area is, we gave our name and they handed over our sandwiches immediately. There is limited seating inside and it is pretty much a takeout spot. However, if you can snag a seat, there are a few tables, but I would say 90% of the people here were taking the food to go. That's why I would recommend placing an online order for pick up because it just made the whole process really quick and the sandwiches were super fresh, they hadn't been sitting around, etc.. I went with the cold roast beef sandwich, which as simple as it was - it really was delicious. 5/5 stars! The roast beef was generous, and the tomato and lettuce was very fresh. It came with a thick slice of American cheese and the horseradish mayonnaise sauce was phenomenal. I ordered extra horseradish cream sauce on the side and they didn't charge me for it, which was very nice of them. The sandwich was honestly just so well crafted and generous with the portions, that it's a solid sandwich. Prices were pretty reasonable as it was under $19 for a sandwich and some chips. I know you can make sandwiches cheaper at home but sometimes a good deli sandwich is worth the price and the convenience of just coming to picking up. Staff here were very friendly and welcoming. It's a busy spot and a lot is going on but the quality and care by the staff is still 100% there. The inside is a bit outdated, but it more gives a homie old-school vibe. They do have bathrooms in the back and they were clean, so it's great if you need a quick rest stop. This is definitely a local gem and if you stop here, you're in for a treat of a really classic old-school sandwich.

My favorite stop in bishop. Mt. Tom sandwich, bread, all pastries, molasses and Sierra mud cookies are all my favorite. The best thing is that you can place an order online.

Pizza bagel breakfast sandwich- Jan 2025

The best breakfast bagel sandwiches in town. Local no frills spot for quality food. Quick and friendly service with hot sandwiches loaded with egg and meat (I got ham) for a reasonable price. You can choose your bagel flavor and add protein option for an additional charge. They have fresh bread and pastries, and a self slicer if you get a loaf. The pizza bagel was especially delicious!

Solid local bakery with pies, cookies, pastries, sandwiches, and some tasty looking Artisan breads. Sandwich makers are quick too. Very local feeling place, street parking with a free shared lot a very short walk away, and equally close to the local Supercharger.

Roast beef and horseradish on sourdough

Was headed to another well known spot (wink wink), but heard of Great Basin from social media so instead we came here for the roast beef and horseradish sandwich it did not disappoint!

Great baked goods. Visited this place again and unfortunately this place has become extremely expensive. Beware bagel prices!

We travel through Bishop once or twice a year. We know the Schat's bakery gets all the love, but…read morethe Roadhouse?? Yes please!!! Hubby and I stopped in for a late lunch on our journey home after a quick trip to Disneyland the day prior. It's a long drive, so Bishop is about halfway to home. We don't like traveling with leftovers, so we often share a meal. Yesterday was the Bluey Armstrong burger with a side of the garlic Parmesan fries. The burger was great! Juicy, cooked to perfection, and so flavorful. But the fries? For the love of all that's good those fries sent me on a trip straight to heaven. I wouldn't say I'm a fry snob, but I do know what I like, and these were possibly the best garlic parm fries I've ever had. So much so that I told my hubby I'd recommend going on a 6 hour girls' trip just for the fries. (My gal pals and I do weird trips for stuff like this.) Long story short(ish) stop here for food. You will be saying "get in my belly" with the only regret that it isn't closer to your home. Unless you live in Bisho, in which case you are a lucky person.

Aaron Schat's Roadhouse came up as the best suggestion and it did not disappoint! It was only 11am but we started with 2 pints of Coor's lol. Then we ordered 2 Shot Gun burgers and beer battered fries. They were so delicious! The burger patty was freshly made and the bun was a cheese type bun from their bakery. The fries were so crispy. 1 basket of fries would have been enough to share but we ordered 2 not knowing and force fed ourselves to finish it all lol. We will definitely add this to our bishop stop on future trips!

The eggs and avocado i ordered on the side were fresh and yummy. My daughter who is quite the picky eater had a pancake and she loved it! She at almost the entire thing and they were nice enough to give her some whipped cream on the side! The merch area was pretty cool. Hoodies for $25 is definitely a deal! Unfortunately they didn't have many in stock including my size which was the only thing that was unfortunate for me. The restaurant is super fun with lots of fishing decor. The staff was also super kind and friendly! We love Jack's!

My boyfriend likes the waffles here so I wanted to give it a try and it did not disappoint! It's an American style waffle so they are thinner and crispier than a Belgium. The texture was great and I heard they even use a home made batter! I also wanted some protein so I ordered one of the griddle combos that included eggs with the waffles. The strawberry and cream waffle was also delicious and not too sweet ! it tasted more natural versus artificially sweetened. Our server, Josh, was very tentative and had recommended the strawberry waffle. He came back to check if he needed any additional sauces as well as coffee/water refills. Service was prompt and the food came out quickly! Which was great since we had a long drive home.
