Went for a full synthetic oil change, plus full service everything else--tire pressure, axles, coolant etc. price quoted $89.99-okay Guy came into waiting area with a dirty cabin filter. Do I want to change it, sure. It's a paper filter, how much could it cost? $10, maybe $20? Wrong! $49.99. Holy crap! It is my fault for not asking. But that price is crazy. Be warned. Just another Nickel and Dime Prescott business. Having been here for only a few months from Texas I was in search of "my mechanic" like a hair stylist if you find a good one you stay with them. For the past 25 years I have always used mobile 1 synthetic in my trucks. Nobody has ever kept it in stock so I would pick it up and pay a reasonable amount to have my oil changed and usually find a couple things tweaked so they could make some money. So I was going to change my oil, rotate my tires and have my air filter cleaned. They couldn't do the tires and insisted that they would have to charge $80 for fifteen minutes of labor only since I had the oil and the filter is built in. Businesses pay tens of thousands every year to get new business. A reasonable price this time and now knowing they stocked my oil an easy in and out for all future oil changes and anything else I may need. Instead a greedy take it or leave it is what I got. Making an exception and doing the work goes a long way in business. I would know I have had 6 of them. Obviously the manager and his empty garage doesn't know about earning and keeping business. I will find someone who will change my oil with me supplying it and they will have my business. Prescott and it's BS charges or should I say over charges can take a flying f#%ng leap of a bridge. Like the 2 cents of tape I paid $2 for at the UPS store. Oh, and the kid trying to lecture me about the overhead of running a business. I can't wait till he tries and realizes that it takes customers to pay the overhead. And don't be fooled by "we're a family business." 500 locations exist and this one is not well received. read more

WARNING!!!! Do not take your vehicle here, they did not put my truck back together correctly and it started leaking oil. With only 19,000 miles on it I was shocked and confused to see an oil leak, took it to the dealership to have it looked at. They told me both the plug and the filter were not put back on tight enough. Had to do another oil change, brought the paper work from the dealership to the manager and assistant manager asking for a refund on my oil change. They called me a liar, we went round and round and got no where. I gave them my phone number, assistant manager said he would contact the owners. I never heard from them so I contacted the BBB because they are members and the BBB does mediation. They also blew the BBB off and never responded to them. There are many other places in town to get an oil change do not risk taking your vehicle here. read more

The change oil light came on while driving through Prescott in my 2013 Fiat. I drove into grease monkey since the place was empty I thought I could get a quick oil change. I was greeted by Cameron and some young kid. Cameron said" sorry we don't do Fiats" I said OK why not. Cameron said " they are pieces of junk and nothing but trouble" then his pimply faced sidekick said" yeah don't bother going to valvoline or jiffy lube either , they don't want the trouble" I drive to Prescott Valley to Jiffy lube and they took great care of me. My Fiat May very well be a piece of junk( I love it 110k trouble free miles) but I feel that it is unprofessional to be informed of this by a kid that looks like he drove his Moms 89 Crown Victoria to work. What a pleasant surprise from a business! My wife and I had just moved to Prescott and had our vehicles serviced before we moved there. As we were leaving to return to our home of state for some last belongings, I noted my truck was making a ticking noise and that the oil was low as I checked it despite no warning light and guess the last mechanic shorted my Tundra some oil. We drove to the Grease Monkey and were surprised that they added two quarts of oil without a charge and made sure there were no leaks and mentioned that the truck needs about 8 quarts per oil change. I usually check my truck after each service but missed it this time. I promised them my future business over that level of care and service. They even gave our dog with us a biscuit while they checked my truck. read more

I've been going to Grease Monkey for oil changes and other services for more than 10 years. Probably closer to 15. I've always been offered several options for the oil to be used. On 10/22/2020 I went to the Prescott Grease Monkey for an oil change and tire rotation, on my BMW 325i. I was informed at the start that I had to use Mobil1 type oil. I said I didn't want Mobil1 type, I wanted the synthetic blend. I was told Grease Monkey could ONLY use the type oil specified by the manufacturer. I was then told it wouldn't be Mobil1, but it would be the price of Mobil1. I was also told it would be $93.xx. I begrudgingly agreed to it. A few minutes later I was told the car was too heavy for a tire rotation. Then I got my bill. $128.96 for an oil change. Nothing else. I will no longer go to Grease Monkey for service. More than $100 for an oil change on a CAR, not a big diesel truck. That's beyond ridiculous. read more

Though the service is quick and the people friendly, it's hard to trust a shop that hits you up three times for products and services that are wholly unnecessary. No, a brake fluid flush isn't "required when copper levels reach 200 parts per million." In fact, the only time that service you just offered me for $70 is required is if moisture somehow gets into the brake lines or the fluid has somehow overheated. Otherwise, brake fluid can last damned near the life of the vehicle. I'll not be returning. read more

My check engine and transmission check light came on last night simultaneously. I live in Phoenix and was up for the weekend and by myself, so was a bit concerned. I called a shop early Saturday morning and the man was very condescending, so I thought I'd stop in at Grease Monkey and see if they could read the codes. They did and reported the problem and cleared the codes. I also had them change the oil. They were prompt, courteous and I only waited about 30 minutes before service even though I dropped in early on Saturday. Very good, and a special thanks to Ty, who helped me load my elderly dog. Very speedy and convenient and the service was friendly and efficient. The location was also good for us and since we were in a rush it worked out real well. They explained a bunch of stuff which was a bit rushed and confusing but we decided to just stick with the basic service. My wife took her car in for a basic oil change and was charged $80 for 5 qt synthetic oil and spin on filter. This was about 3 times the cost of the retail value of the oil/filter. No other services were provided and this was a clear case of taking advantage of a woman. They also told her to come back in 3,000 miles for another oil change which is not recommended by the car manufacturer. The new oil and engine systems rarely need an oil change that soon. read more

Back in July 2016 I brought my VW Jetta into have the oil changed in it before leaving on a trip a couple of days later. I went to work in Sedona the next morning and heard something dragging looked under the car and noticed that it was the undercarriage cover that was not properly secured and was ruined. I came back to the store Jim the store manager said that he would order me a new one and offered me a free oil change for the next time I was there. I told him thank you and that I wasn't looking for any free services, I just wanted my undercarriage cover replace. Two months later I go in to get my oil changed again and was told by a different tech that it takes a while to get these things in. Long story short it is now nearing the end of November and I still have now heard anything about the replacement for my undercarriage cover. read more

They brought out a card showing me what purportedly was my transmission fluid; called my husband to say hi while still in Prescott; told him about transmission fluid change and he reminded me we had that done 20,000 miles ago. I took my little Trailblazer in for an oil change at the Prescott Grease Monkey for probably the 30th time in 15 years around the middle of May 2021. They took my car off my hands, then inside I was told that the cheapest oil change available was $80. It was pretty shocking, but I was in a hurry and my car was in the bay already so I coughed up $80 in change. As luck would have it, I had company that week who had their oil changed at Big O for $26. I shopped around and figure I got ripped off for at least $30 by Grease Monkey. I called back and was given the same rigmarole about oil prices being up, this that and the other bs. I just called corporate and was told I would have to take this issue up with the store, as this is not a corporate store. I had a few more questions and got hung up on. I was going to wait to post a review until corporate responded, however, I'm taking being hung up on as their response. I urge everyone to take their vehicle elsewhere, where they're not playing games. read more

Got my oil changed and tires rotated on 2/15/16. Recently noticed my truck was leaking oil. I looked underneath and examined my oil plug, which was covered in oil and actively seeping out. I tried to tighten the drain plug, but it was stripped. It must have been overtightened when they changed the oil. It never leaked before the oil change. read more

After the engine & transmission oil change, they ran a diagnostic (no charge) to find out why my check engine light was on. Armed with this information I was able to call repair shops and get a precise estimate. I also like their new "countdown" clocks to tell you how long your wait will be. I need to add another review stating that this is a dishonest repair place. I had just had a 90K mile service done on my car, and went in for a quick oil change. Lo and behold, my car needed a transmission flush, new air filter, new brake fluid and multiple other things. They even brought out a little tray to show me how dirty my transmission fluid was. Trouble is, my husband checked it at home, and it was fresh and clean. Total rip-off place that gives auto repair places a bad name. Avoid it. read more
