    So called rusty bolt...

My father brought his BMW into Jim's to get an alignment done. This should be simple enough, or one would think. The tech working on the car ended up breaking an eccentric bolt in the rear end during the job. Things happen, I get it... but that is not where the train went off the rails. The service adviser, Charlie, explained that the bolt/car was very rusty, and this is why it broke. The car is originally from the Pacific NW where we do not salt the roads in the winter. There is ZERO rust on this car. Charlie now wanted to charge my father $100 in labor to replace the bolt and another $40 for the bolt itself. BMW of North Scottsdale sells this bolt for $16.87. Needless to say I stepped in, called the shop and told them I would be back to pick the car up with my trailer. At this point I will go purchase the correct parts and fix the car myself as $140 is unacceptable for a mistake that they made. Fast-forward the story, when I got the car home, there was ZERO rust on the bolt and it was twisted to the right which indicates it was over-torqued when he tightened the bolt and that is why it snapped. When we were still at the shop picking the car up, Charlie was still very insistent that the car was rusty to the point that he even leaned over his desk to get in my father's face. I was outside strapping the car down to the trailer while this took place. This type of aggression and intimidation is unacceptable and honestly I wish I had been in the room to see this. Only a bully uses tactics like this. Had I been in the room, I guarantee his big brass ones wouldn't have been that big.... To end the story, in order to pick up the car, my father had to pay for a $50 inspection... Really? $50 for you to break it, me to fix it and send the car to another shop to align it properly. Wow!!! This could have been easily fixed by taking ownership of a simple mistake, instead of gas-lighting their customer.

Had an alignment done by Wes on my 911 s Perfect Job . Car drives straight as an arrow at 147 MPH near skull valley !

Very efficient and friendly, and cost of labor and parts were very reasonable. I will be a return customer.

Trusting their expertise, I approved about $2,000 of the work. I declined their "urgent" $538 rear brake pad replacement because shortly afterward, a dealership inspection found all four pads were at 7mm and healthy. When I questioned Christian Brothers about this, they only offered to "re-measure" them. They also overfilled my engine oil by about half an inch above the maximum mark on the dipstick. When I brought it back, they corrected it but initially told me the overfill was "fine." The biggest issue happened after I paid them $240 for a coolant flush. Before their coolant service, I had no check engine light or thermostat issue. 2 weeks after the flush, my check engine light came on with a thermostat-related code. I got a second opinion and was told to check the coolant level because an improperly performed flush can leave air trapped in the cooling system. When we opened the hood, the coolant reservoir was completely EMPTY. I brought it back to Christian Brothers and showed them the empty reservoir. Instead of investigating whether their coolant service had been done incorrectly, they argued that the engine had simply "used up" the coolant. They then told me the thermostat needed to be replaced and wanted to charge me over $500. I did not replace the thermostat. I demanded they complete the job properly and fill the coolant reservoir to the proper level. I have now driven the car for about a week and the check engine light has completely gone away and has NOT returned. So, in my experience, they performed a coolant flush, left the reservoir empty, a check engine light appeared afterward, and then they tried to charge me $500+ for a thermostat that did not need to be replaced. Correcting the coolant level resolved the problem. Christian Brothers is NOT a cheap shop. Their prices are extremely high for most services, while the quality of their work and accuracy of their diagnoses have repeatedly been terrible and incorrect. Wrong about the brake pads. Overfilled my oil. Performed a coolant flush that left the reservoir empty. Then tried to charge me for the resulting problem instead of correcting their own work. I have completely lost confidence in this shop. I would NEVER return and strongly recommend STAYING AWAY. Get a second opinion before approving any expensive or "urgent" repair they recommend.

I brought my 1962 Nova that I just purchased off of marketplace in for a few things to get it safely running on the road. Eric gave me a call about 2 hours later with some pretty bad news. Unfortunately I purchased a pretty bad apple that would take thousands of dollars to get it safely operable. He totally could have taken my money and did the minimum what I thought was good enough. After he walked me through everything this poor car has issues with, I am so thankful for his honesty and genuine care for anyone driving the car. I will absolutely be bringing all of our vehicles to Eric and his awesome team of mechanics for any future needs.

Instead, my truck was ignored, damaged, mishandled, repeatedly delayed, and ultimately returned in unacceptable condition. IE not the same as I brought it to them. On the first visit, Action Auto damaged the right front fender so badly enough that it had to be removed and hammered back into shape. The brightwork was also distorted all of which they had not explains to how the incident happened, trying to claim it "arrived that way." For a shop entrusted with a classic vehicles in Orange County, that level of carelessness is completely unacceptable. What should have been a relatively straightforward job took six weeks. The truck sat for roughly a month "waiting for parts" accumulating dirt and grime and time on a deadline as truck was being shipped overseas. Then came the wheels. Action Auto outsourced the balancing and powder coating but apparently never bothered to verify that the wheels were true. They weren't! The wheels were mounted with an absurd amount of balancing weight, and the defective, out of round tires apparently weren't questioned either. That's not quality control, that's simply putting the problem on the customer's truck/vehicle and hoping nobody notices. After having the truck properly sorted mechanically by Saddleback Auto in a previous visit to Action Auto, I had to send it back to Action Auto because of a bad AC compressor they installed, belt slap from the compressor, and the botched wheel work. They kept the truck for another month, then tried to make me responsible for half the cost of repairing the wheels, wheels they had outsourced and failed to properly inspect in the first place. And the final pickup was unbelievable: the horn unit had been destroyed, the air cleaner was sitting in the truck bed, and the truck that arrived at their shop immaculate was returned absolutely filthy! Had I not shown up when I did, the truck apparently would have been sent back to Saddleback Auto in pieces, most likely with the blame being shifter to me. This wasn't one unfortunate mistake but a series of careless negligence. It was a repeated failure to properly handle, inspect, and take responsibility for a customer's vintage vehicle with attention to detail and preservation. If you care at all about your classic car or truck, my experience gives me zero confidence in leaving any vintage vehicle of any significant value, originality or rarity with Action Auto of Lake Forest. Six weeks the first time. Another month the second time. Damage to the truck. Defective and sloppy work. Outsourced work that wasn't properly checked. More damage. A filthy truck returned. And then an attempt to pass part of the repair bill on to me. Never again!
