We used Grats Decor for our JADU project and had a great experience from talking over the project details and contract through the final inspection. There were many reason we're glad we used them and here are just a few: (1) Craftsmanship, expertise, and attention to detail For us, the end project speaks for itself. Everything is sturdy, well made or installed, and lines everywhere were just straight even if you zoomed in. There were even small things they did outside the scope of our project like simple window frames in the garage, just to make the space feel more complete by their high standards. (2) Efficiency We checked in on the progress often and so often, we'd say "I can't believe how much they finished today". The project started from scratch down to the studs. The entire project was done in a little over 4 months, including inspection lead times. (3) Adaptability We changed our minds on a few things and they took it in stride every time, talking us through options and their pros/cons. We'd also be the bottleneck at times (didn't have finished material ready) and they'd find ways to progress on the project despite that. (4) Professionalism They respected our space, noted how we locked up and mimicked that at the end of their day, and organized receipts, payments, and inspection paperwork for us. He came to my house and looked into the leakage of the window and figured out the problem very quickly and gave very accurate estimation. Then we made the schedule, he brought the worker at 8 am. We hired Gene for a bathroom remodel and a to remove a portion of a wall to open up our kitchen/dining area. From the start, Gene's team was professional, communicative and responsive. For example, Gene and his team took our feedback into consideration and completed the kitchen project first to enable us to regain use of that space more quickly. Throughout the project, Gene helped guide us through the process - he and his team were clear on the steps involved, the pros/cons of various approaches, and took in our feedback on styles/decor and functionality. There were a few minor changes made to the project for various reasons, and in each case, Gene worked with us to get it right. After years of contemplating a remodel, my partner and I finally made the decision to bite the bullet. There are still a few finishing touches before it's complete, but our place looks fantastic! We started out thinking that we were only going to update our kitchen and bathroom. But as we began, we started to feel like now was the time to go ahead and get everything done rather than waiting and going through another remodel later. Gene was great and willing to do additional work beyond our original intention. The project was originally supposed to be 5-6 weeks. With the additional work added, it ended up going to 8 weeks. If I we were able to leave a 6 star review we would. Our experience with Gene/Yuiry at Grats Decor wasn't just to our standards, but exceeded our expectations. We did a full interior renovation of our home, moved the kitchen and added one full bathroom. I've had an experience using a general contractor before that resulted in the usual work order changes/ price increasing. One thing I'll say Grats decor sticks to is their "Original bid". They account for things such as electrical, plumbing, roofing, etc that other contractors won't include, but throw at you later. Another thing Grats Decor did that was different is pass on their company discounts without pressuring us to use their "Guys". It was always an open door policy to source our own finished materials or use their expertise, I recommend you do! The knowledge Gene and Yuiry have is vast and plentiful. Our home was built in 1953, so there were things needing to be addressed such as subfloor, plumbing, and electrical I wouldn't have trusted with anyone else. Everyday Gene or Yuiry were on-site making sure the job was on time/budget. Making the customer happy is the number one priority of Grats Decor. We went against their advise for kitchen cabinet manufacturer that turned into a mess. Gene stepped up and fixed our mistake with a smile as if nothing happened. It was a pleasure working with Gene and team. We had a small job to repair our bathroom after sewer damage remediation was completed. The work involved closing part of a drywall, reconstructing a cabinet, and placing a toilet. Gene was able to offer a solution that we agreed on and got the work done in timely manner. He also found the solutions for the materials needed to reconstruct the bathroom back to being functional. One of his team actually found pieces of old tiles that matches our current bathroom tiles perfectly which is so much appreciated! I submitted a quotation request via Yelp and they reached out right away to set up an on-site inspection for estimation, free of charge. The morning of the on-site visit, Yuriy arrived on time and even brought shoe cover with him which is so thoughtful. Yuriy inspected my bathroom thoroughly. He brought a mold detector to check and see what needs to be done with the bathroom due to the mold issue. When he's done with inside of the bathroom, he even tested a couple spots around the house for me. Yuriy was very professional and took his time with inspection and explained to me exactly what he plans to do with the bathroom. He also provided a detailed estimate at the end of the on-site visit. I'll update my review after the bathroom tiles replacement. But so far, I'm impressed with their service! read more

Let me get straight to the point in order to make it easy for anyone shopping for a General Contractor. Background: I hired Grats Decor (GD) for a full house remodel (everything torn down to the bones and built up again) + new construction with large square foot addition both horizontally and vertically. Pros: * GD's quote was cheaper than 3 other General Contractor companies that I got quotes from. In fact, if you were to look closely into the contracts, some of them would skip on some essentials such as roofing and flooring labor since the cost of labor greatly depends upon what you want to go with (concrete vs tile vs laminate, floating panels vs glue down, etc.). But GD's contract included all of the essentials so that I didn't need to worry about getting a change order later based on my flooring choice. Only one other company included all of these essentials, but their quote was about 12% higher than the quote from GD. * The company is very professional and will work through without any complaints on any inconveniences that they might come across from demo to completion. You won't realize how great this is until you come across another contractor who complains about the smallest of issues. * Any issues after the contract has ended? No problem! GD is not a company that finishes a project and moves on. So, you find any problems or need any clarifications on the work that was done, Gene/Yuriy will answer any questions and would also visit you in person to fix the issue. Example: 2 weeks after the contract was completed and everything paid off, I discovered that my smoke detectors were missing the interconnection wire. This was because I got the "smart" smoke detectors and the electrician had assumed that they interconnected with each other through WiFi. Well, when I discovered that they do need to be physically wired to one another, I called Gene/Yuriy and explained this to them. In less than a day, the electrician came home, spent 3 hours and got everything wired. No questions asked...no grumblings....and no charges. Awesome service! * Finally, they are very friendly and respectful. This goes all the way down to the people who work for them. I especially loved the demolition crew. We had mentioned that everything inside the house is unwanted and can be trashed. But we accidentally left behind a few artifacts. The demolition crew could have easily trashed them, but instead they kept them safe in our garage and even reminded us about them during one of our site visits. Cons (or, more like "things to be aware of"): * EVERYTHING needs to be in writing, and, I mean every little discussion. After the contract was written, but before signing, we agreed on including a few more items to the quote for the same price. But this was not written down, and was thus forgotten. When the time came, there were heated debates on whether the items were to be included in the quote or were to be charged extra as a change order. So write everything down...best as an addendum to the contract, or if not, as an email or text immediately after discussion. Everything means EVERYTHING. It's not that GD is going to back down on the agreement. It's just that they have many projects (because of their 5 stars on Yelp) and thus they cannot keep track of the small details and the context of the discussion. So discuss it, and WRITE it down. Examples: 1. Closet installation included in your quote? Well, does it mean installation of a full-fledged closet system, or simply a couple of bars to hang your clothes? Discuss it and write it down! 2. Rough material is included in the quote (Finished material is not). Not sure if something, like your sub-panel's main electric cable, is considered as rough material or finished material? Discuss it, and write it down! 3. Number of HVAC vents in the house, and their locations. Decide beforehand how many you need and where you need them, and write it down! * EVERYTHING needs to be checked for errors. To err is human, and even though GD is very professional, there were some errors made. It is very important that you catch these immediately. GD makes few mistakes and also does correct them all without complaints. But the more you delay in catching a mistake, the more it costs for GD to fix it, and this can lead to very uncomfortable situations. Examples: 1. One of the windows was not centered to the inside of a bedroom. 2. A few of the walls were wavy and curved in some areas because of a random nail behind the wall. 3. Some of the bathroom tile edges were sticking out. Note: All errors were fixed by GD for no cost. But all of them were caught by me because I checked everything! Conclusion: Finding a good General Contractor is very difficult, and nobody is perfect. I got mine after a lot of research and now that their work is complete, I can truly say that GD would not just meet your expectations, but exceed them....in price, quality, customer service, and overall satisfaction. We had the situation of discovering in the middle of the pandemic that we had a major mold problem in our main bathroom that required a mold remediation company to completely tear everything out. Despite this inconvenience, we took this as our opportunity to finally remodel this bathroom to our liking, as it was already in dire need of updating. We ultimately decided to go with Grats Decor, because we felt comfortable with Gene, liked the remodeling ideas proposed (compared to other companies who tried to push options we were not comfortable with), the company had a great track record of completing similar work, they were able to get started right away, and they were able to give us a reasonable quote. Gene, Uri, and the team all did a wonderful job with the remodel, and we are so happy to finally have the bathroom of our dreams.
