Came here on a quiet Friday afternoon before our Salt and Straw Yelp experience and just a good no fuss no muss dining time. Quiet weekdays are great for easy parking and fast meals. We each a beer and a pasta dish (see pasta dishes below) and shared a cauliflower/radicchio salad. The best thing was the salad in this order, but would come back and dine here if I was in the area. Visited this corner store on a sunny day at the waterfront. What a great experience. You view the menu and order your food and drinks from a very nice team member. You get a number and choose a seat to sit. They bring your food to you. From the get-go, everyone was very informative and helpful. We did not wait long to order or CR food. Which is all made fresh ! We started off with a couple of grassa white wines. Pretty tasty and reasonably priced. After we found our seat very shortly, our chop salad came. Very nice salad with Canelli beans in it and a tangy salad dressing. A good size for us to share. We also ordered the eggplant. Wow, this was delicious. Beautifully fried eggplant. That was crispy. Still with the tomato Ragu. Beautiful dollop of fresh ricotta. Cheese on top. Absolutely yummy. The second thing we had was the handmade propel with truffles. This was our favorite thing. The noodles were so tender and deliciously flavorful. The sauce was amazing! Winner for us. We ordered a special for the week, dumpling week, it was kind of like a hot pocket but way better. Tender flaky dough shaped in a triangle stuffed with some pretty tasty pepperoni. It was crispy but yet tender. I liked it. We enjoyed every dish very much. We got extra little plates and just shared everything so we could taste it all! I definitely would come back here. The view is really nice, the inside is bright and welcoming. A nice little trendy restaurant on the waterfront, very clean inside contemporary look. They are known to make their own pasta. All pasta is homemade. You order your food first then you sit down and they'll bring it to you. The pasta itself is very good. You can taste the difference of it being made opposed to not being freshly made. All dishes are all a cart the dish that we had Squid ink linguine . Squid ink dyed linguine with tomatoes, garlic chili, this one was a little spicy, but so good you just have to keep eating it. The other pasta had thicker pasta full of flavor. The sauce on it was not too heavy, very light, but good just the right amount I found out the grana is a cheese, which is very good. The sausage just the right amount of sausage tasted homemade ordered a Caesar salad, which is very fresh and they put a whole anchovy on the top. Don't forget to cut that bad boy up. We sat by the window and watch people outside outside was decorated very nicely with the twinkling lights. So cute.. read more

The food at Grassa is fantastic! We ordered the Cacio e Pepe and the Corn Affogato, and both were absolutely delicious -- the corn dish especially is something I could eat every day. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is the service. Since it's counter service, the interaction was a bit minimal, and the ordering experience could have felt a little more welcoming. That said, the flavors more than made up for it, and I'd definitely come back for the food alone. read more

First time to the waterfront and first time at a Grassa restaurant. Definitely a solid choice. We ordered the Cacio E Pepe with pork belly, the spaghetti with meatballs, the fusilli all a vodka and an order of the fried brussels sprouts. Also an order of the garlic bread because.... it's pasta and you have to order the garlic bread. The pastas were all very good. The fusilli was actually really good, but be prepared for some spice, it had a lot of crushed pepper. Not cheap or really expensive, kind of right down the middle between $15-$20. The brussels were just ok, I'd probably pass on those next time. The garlic bread was actually really good and I would recommend that for sure. read more

This is my family's favorite restaurant on the new waterfront down in Vancouver. Fresh pasta, amazing flavors, and affordable prices... What more could you want? Amazing salads? They have them. Delicious cocktails? They have those too. This restaurant is order at the counter, which makes it ideal when you don't want to stress about dividing up a tab. Some people might not like the fact that you don't have a waiter/waitress checking in on you, but that is how they keep the prices affordable. Good luck finding another restaurant on the West Coast with delicious fresh pasta for cheaper prices! The place is kid friendly and has cute style and a variety of seating options. Grassa is DELICIOUS! The place has a very casual vibe - you go order at the counter and seat yourselves. The wait for food was a little long but it was also bustling during happy hour, and the food was well worth the wait. I tried the squid ink linguine, pork belly mac and cheese, and sweet potato gnocchi. It was all delicious but the mac and cheese in particular was spectacular- the cheese sauce was very decadent and the pairing of pork belly was a surprisingly tasty balance. Prices were also great - especially compared to the Seattle standards I am accustomed to. The portions are definitely on the smaller side but still well worth it. I will be back! read more

I am a big fan of the in-house-made fresh pasta. Grassa delivers an impressively fresh and tasty pasta and I am delighted! Aglio e Olio is a very simple dish but it could be disastrous if not prepared right, but Grassa's version was on spot. Toasted breadcrumbs garnishing is something I have never seen on this dish, but it certainly was nice texture addition. We also shared a seasonal pasta - Baked Creste du Gallo. It is a baked short pasta dish with gooey cheese and chanterelles - delish! Generous amour of chanterelles in the dish, and the cheesy goodness can't go wrong on the cozy autumn evenings. Oh! I did not mention we had calamari for a starter - they deep fry lemon (and tiny pimentos) with the calamari, and it is omg-gooooood level. Highly recommend. Only regret is that we held off ordering vino while we ate at Grassa (had a plan to visit one of the wine bars in the close proximity later in the evening), but despite of a lack of vino accompaniment, everything we had was wonderfully crafted, and we were very happy we tried Grassa. I heard so many wonderful things about Grassa, so decide to try them. Wow! carbonara was fantastic, the handmade noodles was delicious! Tried fews dishes, they all were fantastic. I love the idea of ordering food at the front desk that transformed the atmosphere to be more chill and casual. Foods services came fast and friendly. We ordered the truffle pasta and the meatballs. The meatballs were garlicky, rich, with a small spicy kick. The pasta was creamy, buttery, and had a good flavor of the truffle. It doesn't however have any slices of truffle. To me the pasta was a little undercooked, but my partner thought it was perfect. Small portion, but good enough for a mid day snack. this was my first time at their vancouver location and i really like how they're very consistent about their open space concept. we came here right at 6 so we were lucky to beat the crowd and were were able to grab a table right away. the plastic water cups had water stains so we just grabbed the cleaner glasses from the back i got the pasta a la chitarra but i found it to be super oily in comparison to the other pastas. i also thought it lacked flavor, but i honestly see this as a theme in most pesto pastas so i'm not sure if that's on purpose? i also had a few bites of the other pastas and i liked the fusilli alla vodka the most. it had a hint of spice and i liked the pasta shape paired with the texture of the meat. i also tried the rigatoni which came with super tender pork. i liked the red sauce in this dish. we also got the roasted beets which were not even roasted? they seemed to be steamed and they were also served cold which threw me off. overall, there were some hits and some misses. i'm not crazy about grassa but it's a pretty safe choice if you ever want pasta read more

It's a modern express Italian experience, with a small but intentional menu. Everything is fresh and presented very nicely. The food is high quality and reliable. Everybody I came with enjoyed their meal. The inside is sort of intimate, but sleek and minimalistic. It's in a newer development right on the river. For the area the food is reasonably priced for the area and you can eat what feels like an upscale meal without breaking the bank. The servers were nice but they earned extra points for remaking our orders despite a mixup on our part. We went with a larger group but I feel like this is a perfect place to have dinner with a friend if you're passing through. read more

I am not much of a review buff or a critic. But being in the hospitality industry, I felt inclined to review Grassa Vancouver, Wa. I have eaten here maybe 4 times. I live just up the street. From curb appearance to entering the establishment, I was attracted to this restaurant and felt comfortable. My opinion is that it is a mix between casual and class. While being on the waterfront strip on businesses. It does not look intimidating to approach if you are looking for a fair priced meal, while still having an elegant touch. A mix between modern industrial and contemporary style. Out of all of the meals I have had. I was never disappointed. The staff hospitality is not overpowering. It's just right. The Vancouver Waterfront continues to add some truly fantastic dining options, with Grassa being amongst its most recent additions. I haven't had the pleasure of visiting any of their existing Portland locations, but I've heard their name mentioned multiple times from various sources, including articles online, and word of mouth from trusted friends. When my wife and I found ourselves wandering the Waterfront last night, and saw that this Grassa location had opened, we came to an unspoken consensus and headed straight inside to order. Having had a late lunch, we opted to split the Cherry Tomato Pomodoro, which she paired with a glass of the Grassa White, and myself with a Toronto (whiskey and Fernet). We snagged a table outside to enjoy the balmy October sunset. Within 15 minutes the dish arrived: fresh, handcrafted noodles, tossed in a refreshing, sweet-and-savory tomato sauce almost like a salad dressing, with strands of basil, shavings of grana cheese, and a dusting of breadcrumbs that gave it a gentle, welcome crunch. We were hooked, both of us wishing we'd been hungrier, and didn't have to share! I'm a fan of Grassa's fast-casual-fine dining setup; I didn't think I would be. Ordering from the counter and then grabbing your own table seems out of place in a restaurant that exudes such an "upscale" aesthetic, but it works; the flipside, of course, is that you lose any semblance of "service" outside of the ordering process, and the delivery of your meal. If you need another cocktail, you're on your own. Fine by me. Cooking and serving quality Italian pasta dishes is a lot like learning a trade skill: there are levels of proficiency, from apprentice to grandmaster, with each step requiring years of training, practice, and intrinsic knowledge. The quality of the end product is a direct reflection of this proficiency. The pasta served at Grassa is undoubtedly fantastic, but suffers somewhat from being the child of what is essentially an high-end chain restaurant. It'll never reach the reverent station of an Italian nonna, slaving away at hand-rolling noodles with experienced, calloused, arthritic hands, while simultaneously stirring a pot of her legendary Bolognese...but it's not trying to be, either. It doesn't have to. In a world full of Olive Gardens and Spaghetti Factories, a fresh take and an honest effort is enough put them leagues ahead of the competition, and make them a welcome addition to the burgeoning downtown Vancouver culinary scene (a phrase I never thought I would utter in my entire life)! read more

Service was good. I didn't care for the background music (grunge), but it seems they change the genre occasionally so it depends on when you come in. But my personal opinion. The food was pricy for what you get but I suppose all restaurants are expensive now. I had Pomodoro which didn't have any mean in it so I had to order a side of meatmlballa to get some meat. Really surprised the rating is so low for this WATERFRONT restaurant that hand makes all its pasta. We had a roasted cauliflower salad with pickled cherries, toasted almonds and radicchio and it was amazing! Amazing view of the river. Parking was the hardest part. The ladies ordered their items, for the most part they seemed to like it, but no one said they loved any particular dish, (well, they liked the brussel sprouts, again, not a fan). I tried the calamari, it should be renamed onion rings & calamari because there wasn't much squid at all. You order & pay at the counter- and you get your own water, which is fine, but it requires less customer service so i can't say much in that area. For a quick lunch, this place is great. I like the meatballs in the adult Luke, their Bucatini with marinara is also delicious. I also enjoy the nice variation of the lemon slices in the Caesar salad. I don't order from here very often though because they're still using those huge plastic containers and I've read that too much plastic leeches into your hot foods from those things, as well as being environmentally incorrect. Most places use the cardboard containers anymore, but this place is behind the times. So I recommend eating here, but not carrying out. read more

We had held off due to the crowds when the place opened, as the seating is such that you could order and not have a place to sit if they were swamped. So we held off and went around 130pm on a Saturday afternoon, to miss the lunch rush and have a go at the pasta. The interior is quite nice. Very open, kind of industrial feeling. A big counter where you order and then grab a seat anywhere while waiting for your food. They have a rotating draft list, wine, ECT. I ordered the fried brussel sprouts to start (fried and served with granna, and a mustard seed sauce), and my partner ordered the garlic bread. The brussel sprouts came out super quick, were hot and delicious. I'm not kidding. I was so excited for the meal to come based on those brussel sprouts. Crispy edges, the sauce had a small bite to it...was delicious. The garlic bread did not come out until the pasta entrees did, but that was okay. The garlic bread was good. Buttery and crisp, with a dusting of cheese. Was nice. We ordered the spaghetti aglio e olio. My thinking was this place is known for its homemade pasta. I want to be able to taste the pasta, as hand made pasta is what makes something truly a treat. Our dishes came out and looked very nice. A bed of pasta with olive oil, chili flake, granna, parsley, and bread crumbs. When I took a bite tho, I felt let down to be honest. It was just...okay. it had a bit of kick from the chili which I appreciated as a lot of places go too easy on spice, but beyond that it didn't have much flavor. Usually on am aglio e olio, you can taste the good flavor of a good olive oil, of the garlic, ECT. Cheese isn't traditional (nor is bread crumbs) but that's okay. But it just tasted of spice, with some texture from the breadcrumbs. The pasta itself was decent, bit considering there were a total of five total occupied tables in the place and it took half an hour to get two plates of an olive oil dressed fresh pasta, eh? Nothing was bad. It just wasn't great. I'm no chef by any means, but when my boxed spaghetti and own olive oil sauce tastes better and takes a little more than a quarter of the time (and that's using dried pasta, not fresh), I wonder what I'm paying for. Thank god we got this place on the waterfront in Vancouver! The location and area is excellent, very spacious and open seating for everyone. I like that you can order your food first and find a table after. Also, surprisingly, the last couple times we've been there isn't really that long of a wait or line which is awesome. Ohhhh wow where do I begin to describe this shit show of a restaurant ill start with the Manager needs to be fired. First come first serve after you wait in a long ass line at the front door. The service is horrible 2 ladies take your order and make your drinks then give you a paper towel holder with a number then you go sit down and wait for any of the 4 employees to wander around the place looking for a food number. We watched food stack up filling the counter while the 2 lost employees went in and out of the business looking for certain numbers while the other food sat at the counter waiting. If you want water it's get your own and its warm tap water with no ice. The 2 bartenders were a joke. This whole restaurant is a joke. The food is a joke the portions are disrespectful to customers the lack of service is a joke the bartenders are a joke. We spend $60 and left hungry and thats a joke. read more

Just as good, if not BETTER than the Portland locations. So happy to have Grassa at the waterfront. It's probably going to be a go-to for us. Homemade pasta with delicious sauces with fresh ingredients, it just doesn't get much better than that. For those who haven't been, you walk up and order at the counter and they bring out to you, so it's great for dining in and takeout, no reservations needed. The restaurant is really spacious so plenty of places for seating both inside and outside. Love all the live plants and decor inside, too!
