Sal's Calabrian Chili Special
Tully B.

Grassa is once again firing on all cylinders. The Big Sal pasta with Calabrian chili is excellent with huge wide tube noodles (like mega rigatoni). There is an elevated flavor- don't miss this special. The pork belly Mac and cheese continues to bring down the house. The Caesar is good (not with radicchio anymore). Service is counter and outdoor seating is plentiful on Hawthorne.

GET THE PIZZA HOT POCKET. if you don't read the rest of my review, just get the hot pocket. it's made with layers of crispy goodness like no other hot pocket you've had before. the italian ranch is also so slightly unique that it makes the whole dish come together. my husband got this dish and reluctantly wanted to share. it's so good. please try it. it will not let you down. good staples we got were the garlic bread, kids mac and the fusilli alla vodka. the caesar salad was exceptional. overall great quality food. i'd come back just for those pizza hot pockets though! *swoon

Black Truffle Pappardelle, Spaghetti al Pesto, Fusilli Alla Vodka, garlic bread- 2 pieces
Fuey S.

This is my 2nd time back and I brought more of my sisters here because thats how much I love the truffle parpadelle! It was Saturday night at 7pm and a 30 minutes wait for food. It was pretty busy, but after you order your food and take a seat the yellow light sets the mood for a date night :) The meatballs are a favorite to try! And while the garlic bread was not as much as I was expecting, it was good. The pesto pasta was refreshing and the vodka pasta was just as good. Every time I'm in the area, I will try to get that truffle pasta! I'm also a fan of wide noodle pasta so I'm a sucker for parpadelle..... Consensus: at least try the black truffle parpadelle We got a few drinks to try: the blueberries for breakfast are a must try if you like a sweet drink, the rest were mediocre (but I'm a sweet cocktail kinda girl)

Meatball burger - Burger week 2025

Grassa has always been solid and a great place to have hand made pasta dishes at a reasonable price given the current climate of inflation. There is plenty of seating inside and outside. Ordering is quite simple and cocktails and food are made to order. Service is on point, comfortable atmosphere, and the food is simply amazing. Whenever they do specific food special weeks like burger or nacho week, Grassa always satisfies and never disappoints. I even converted my sister and brother in law and they always get excited when Grassa is suggested! Over the years they never disappoint and I can always count an excellent meal and walk away a happy camper!

Specialty menu by Chef Joe Sasto!

I just happen to be visiting Portland and y'all- I spotted mustache Joe from Top Chef at the airport! So I looked him up and discovered he was doing a pop up and collab with Grassa while I was in town. Had his specialty menu that included blackberry focaccia, shortrib ravioli and chicken parm ravioli and they were all elevated and delicious! What an incredible unexpected treat, Portland is my jam!

Pulled Pork Belly Mac & Cheesepork

Definitely would recommend the bbq Mac and cheese. I was pleasantly surprised with how good it was

Pork Belly Mac & Cheese, Grassa Meatballs

Super delicious! Parking can be difficult, but we were able to find one relatively quickly. Plenty of indoor seating and kind staff members. I tried the pork belly mac & cheese and the grassa meatballs. The mac & cheese is to die for - the pork belly is juicy and flavorful. Additionally, we ordered the blackberry jasmine lemonade, which was quite refreshing! If you've never tried Grassa, I recommend visiting this location first! It's my fav!

rigatoni

Grassa has long held its reputation in Portland for handmade pasta. They were one of the first in this scene and have maintained their popularity. With many locations across town, Grassa is there for you wherever you are. With plenty of pasta and sauce offerings, and with seasonal specials, you won't have to worry about not finding something to satisfy your palette. Are they the best pasta in town? No, but Grassa is a great quick meal option that won't break the wallet. On this visit, I got the rigatoni and it was great! The ragu was rich and meaty, and not wasn't overwhelming. The pasta was al dente and the sauce to pasta ratio was perfect. I have no complaints! Counter service, causal atmosphere, Grassa is here for any occasion to satisfy your pasta cravings!

Carbonara

It's culturally appropriated Italian food. I like the ambience and service but the food was meh lol. Service was excellent. I got a carbonara when a sunny side egg...

Blackberry Jasmine Lemonade

Pasta was fantastic! They have gluten free pasta and are very knowledgeable about allergies. Pasta was delicious!

Fusilli Alla Vodka

Pasta tasted fresh but too al dente. Sauce tasted overwhelmingly like the sausage in the dish. The garlic bread was my favorite part.

Jboogie L.

Nice location (neighborhood parking or street parking only). IT is more spacious than then Alphabet location. Claims with chermoula and saffron.

Black Truffle Pappardelle

Amazing food. 10/10 will try this place again. Garlic bread is amazing too! They were busy so it was a bit of a wait for our food, but the taste made up for that.

Pasta was cold. Wait was too long. Food was not very good for the hype. For Italian, go elsewhere.

Food is tasty! Pasta is al dente and looks delicious. I should have taken a picture I had the pomodoro with Malbec wine.

Teardrop Cocktail Lounge - Charcuterie and cheese board

Teardrop Cocktail Lounge

To speak about Teardrop Lounge, I should probably start with this:…read more Ladies and gentlemen, I present my favorite cocktail bar. Not the best -- I'm not arrogant enough to claim that. I haven't been to every cocktail bar in Portland, and saying something is the best usually says more about your lack of experience than your conviction. But favorite? That I can stand behind. And I want to get that out of the way early, because of the amount of praise I'm about to pour on this place -- fully earned, completely intentional. The biggest crime here is that I only discovered it two weeks ago, after living in Portland for a year. It had been recommended to me countless times, and I ignored it. A mistake. A painful one. But now that I've found it, I don't plan on making that mistake again. I'm not typically an Old Fashioned drinker. In fact, I usually hate them. But somewhere between curiosity and too many episodes of Mad Men, I decided to try one anyway -- fully expecting to confirm my bias. Instead, it completely flipped me. Bright, almost citrus-forward in a way that felt unusual but entirely intentional. Balanced, smooth, just enough burn to remind you what you're drinking without overwhelming it. It was the first time I actually understood the appeal. I'm pretty sure I grew a few chest hairs that night. That alone would've been impressive. But it didn't stop there. The space is beautiful -- clean, intentional, but not cold. The staff are excellent: personable, engaged, and most importantly, authentic. Not scripted, not performative. The kind of people you actually want to talk to, and hopefully, eventually be on a first-name basis with. Now, all of that gets it close to a perfect score. But what pushes it over the edge -- what makes this place stick -- is the White Russian. One of the first drinks I ever had. My dad's drink. Not because of The Big Lebowski -- that came later -- but because it's just always been his thing. And at some point, it became mine too. Typically, when bars try to "elevate" a White Russian, they ruin it. They overthink it. Swap ingredients, tweak ratios, add unnecessary flair. And more often than not, it ends in disappointment. Teardrop does the opposite. They respect it -- but refine it. The coffee liqueur actually tastes like coffee. The heavy cream is properly integrated, not just dumped on top. The vodka -- whatever they're using -- is clean, present, and perfectly measured. There's a subtle complexity to it without losing what makes the drink what it is. It's the best White Russian I've ever had. No hesitation. I've gone back twice just to make sure it wasn't a fluke. It wasn't. If someone asked me what my death row drink would be -- this specific cocktail, from this specific bar, is in the conversation. Easily. Teardrop Lounge doesn't just make great cocktails. It reminds you why cocktails matter in the first place. And that's why it's my favorite.

We came to Teardrop Cocktail Lounge while visiting Portland and were genuinely impressed…read more The cocktails were excellent -- thoughtful, well-balanced, and clearly made by people who know what they're doing. One of the best parts was how approachable the bartenders were. We asked for custom drinks based on our preferences, and both came out perfectly tailored. Creative without being weird, and strong without being sloppy. What really stood out was the price point. For the quality of cocktails, the prices felt very reasonable compared to similar craft cocktail bars in other cities. The vibe was also great -- relaxed, cozy, and not pretentious. It felt like a place where you could come for a special drink experience without feeling like you had to "perform" or order off a rigid menu. We liked it so much we actually came back a second time during our trip. Highly recommend if you're into well-crafted cocktails, friendly bartenders, and a laid-back but elevated atmosphere.

It really does feel like you've discovered something special. The cocktails were excellent. Thoughtfully crafted, well-balanced, and creative without being gimmicky. Everything we ordered tasted intentional and high quality. We also shared a charcuterie board, which was a great call. Perfectly portioned, nicely curated, and a really good pairing with cocktails. What stood out just as much as the drinks was the atmosphere. It felt intimate, warm, and conversation-friendly -- the kind of place you want to linger. It was exactly the vibe we were looking for for a relaxed evening out. One thing that bothered me though (and I know maybe I'll get hate for this), is I feel like some of the decor is tone deaf. They have a bunch of colonial men ceramic decor, but they partner with and serve food from a Filipino company. I'm Filipino and it was a bit offensive to me because even if the point of having them is trying to make fun of them, it's not really funny. We were colonized for over 300 yrs and still deal with the trauma from it. Please consider removing the colonial decor. I really enjoyed the bar and want to enjoy it in the future, but I don't think it's necessary to have those things in the bar and doesn't add anything to how cool the bar is apart from that. UPDATE: the bar messaged me. They were super professional and kind in their response. I really appreciate that they were open to my perspective on the colonial items and said they will be removed. Thank you so much!! Looking forward to enjoying the bar in the future

You cannot miss the oysters here--the granitas they pair with them are an absolute work of art. For the first time, we tried the beef tartare, and they hand-chop the meat right on the spot. The funky richness of the cheese on top was perfectly balanced, and wrapping it in gem lettuce made it such a unique and delicious treat. As for the drinks, every single cocktail we ordered was outstanding. I'm not a big fan of overly sweet drinks, so the 'Mojo Jojo Casa House' at the end was absolutely perfect for my palate. I also loved the 'Brand New Key,' which was packed with fresh tarragon flavor.
