GET THE PIZZA HOT POCKET. if you don't read the rest of my review, just get the hot pocket. it's made with layers of crispy goodness like no other hot pocket you've had before. the italian ranch is also so slightly unique that it makes the whole dish come together. my husband got this dish and reluctantly wanted to share. it's so good. please try it. it will not let you down. good staples we got were the garlic bread, kids mac and the fusilli alla vodka. the caesar salad was exceptional. overall great quality food. i'd come back just for those pizza hot pockets though! *swoon

This is my 2nd time back and I brought more of my sisters here because thats how much I love the truffle parpadelle! It was Saturday night at 7pm and a 30 minutes wait for food. It was pretty busy, but after you order your food and take a seat the yellow light sets the mood for a date night :) The meatballs are a favorite to try! And while the garlic bread was not as much as I was expecting, it was good. The pesto pasta was refreshing and the vodka pasta was just as good. Every time I'm in the area, I will try to get that truffle pasta! I'm also a fan of wide noodle pasta so I'm a sucker for parpadelle..... Consensus: at least try the black truffle parpadelle We got a few drinks to try: the blueberries for breakfast are a must try if you like a sweet drink, the rest were mediocre (but I'm a sweet cocktail kinda girl)

Grassa has always been solid and a great place to have hand made pasta dishes at a reasonable price given the current climate of inflation. There is plenty of seating inside and outside. Ordering is quite simple and cocktails and food are made to order. Service is on point, comfortable atmosphere, and the food is simply amazing. Whenever they do specific food special weeks like burger or nacho week, Grassa always satisfies and never disappoints. I even converted my sister and brother in law and they always get excited when Grassa is suggested! Over the years they never disappoint and I can always count an excellent meal and walk away a happy camper!

I just happen to be visiting Portland and y'all- I spotted mustache Joe from Top Chef at the airport! So I looked him up and discovered he was doing a pop up and collab with Grassa while I was in town. Had his specialty menu that included blackberry focaccia, shortrib ravioli and chicken parm ravioli and they were all elevated and delicious! What an incredible unexpected treat, Portland is my jam!

Super delicious! Parking can be difficult, but we were able to find one relatively quickly. Plenty of indoor seating and kind staff members. I tried the pork belly mac & cheese and the grassa meatballs. The mac & cheese is to die for - the pork belly is juicy and flavorful. Additionally, we ordered the blackberry jasmine lemonade, which was quite refreshing! If you've never tried Grassa, I recommend visiting this location first! It's my fav!

Grassa has long held its reputation in Portland for handmade pasta. They were one of the first in this scene and have maintained their popularity. With many locations across town, Grassa is there for you wherever you are. With plenty of pasta and sauce offerings, and with seasonal specials, you won't have to worry about not finding something to satisfy your palette. Are they the best pasta in town? No, but Grassa is a great quick meal option that won't break the wallet. On this visit, I got the rigatoni and it was great! The ragu was rich and meaty, and not wasn't overwhelming. The pasta was al dente and the sauce to pasta ratio was perfect. I have no complaints! Counter service, causal atmosphere, Grassa is here for any occasion to satisfy your pasta cravings!

It's culturally appropriated Italian food. I like the ambience and service but the food was meh lol. Service was excellent. I got a carbonara when a sunny side egg...

    Fusilli Alla Vodka

Pasta tasted fresh but too al dente. Sauce tasted overwhelmingly like the sausage in the dish. The garlic bread was my favorite part.

Pasta was fantastic! They have gluten free pasta and are very knowledgeable about allergies. Pasta was delicious!

Amazing food. 10/10 will try this place again. Garlic bread is amazing too! They were busy so it was a bit of a wait for our food, but the taste made up for that.

They have a cozy indoor seating area with a classic bar backdrop. Or if you feel like sitting outside but being shielded from any wind, rain or coolness - there is a cute picnic table area out on a tree shaded side street. We had an out of town guest and we did not want to fuss with cooking at home nor sitting in a stuffy noisy (or super quiet) eatery! Sitting out side before sunset, was the perfect setting on our Monday night. Our waitress was super interactive and very genuine with her assessments of the dining & alcoholic beverage choices. For adult drinks we had an excellent Next Level IPA brewed & branded for Montelupo, Rose special and glass of House Red wine. I was starving so we ordered the LARGE Radicchio salad and it was Big & filling. A side of fresh Broccolini complimented our individual entrees. My hearty Italian dish was the Ricotta Cavatelli. I even had enough for lunch the next day! My two lovely lady dinner mates had meals of Mafaldine pasta and Spinach Fettuccine (with Grana Padano cheese added). We gladly finished our comfortable dining experience with a shared and inhaled Tiramisu dessert. If you have time, spend a few minutes browsing the Italian Market refrigerated food and alcoholic options. Plus the well stocked and reasonably priced Italy sourced dry goods are worth a view

I've been a customer at both the Montelupo & Focacceria in Sellwood spots for quite some time now…read more  I came into Montelupo recently with my wife to place a takeaway order. The woman with dark brunette hair at the register (who processed the transaction below) was extraordinarily rude & impatient with us. Candidly, I've never been treated so poorly by someone taking my money before.  We were at the register for a mere 90 seconds, and it was nowhere near as busy as it has been in prior times that we've patroned the establishment. We also shared with this woman that we'd only order 4 dishes to go - and by the time we were ordering the final dish, she literally asked us to step out of line & come back later to order once we'd figured things out. I've never had a cashier ask that before. We proceeded to put in our final order and complete the transaction. I made a conscious decision not to include a tip due to the way she was treating us, and when she saw that I hadn't included the tip she gave me a dirty look, turned around and said nothing to us. Not even a "thank you" or "your order will be ready in X minutes". I had to check myself with my wife to see if I was misinterpreting the circumstances, and she responded "no, that was horrible service." When I came back 20 minutes later, this same woman was at the counter and refused to acknowledge me. I was standing 5 feet away, and there was not a single other customer in the market area. She just stood there looking elsewhere & avoiding eye contact. I finally saw the bartender come over and ask me if the order was mine - he picked up my order that had been sitting there and handed it to me.  I've never had an experience like this at Montelupo nor the Focacceria before. To be honest, I've never had an experience like that anywhere. It's hard for me as a paying customer to feel welcome in an establishment where the mentality of the cashier is adversarial toward patrons. It's very clear to me that the customer service at Montelupo has a long way to go to catch up to the quality of the food being served there. When I shared this feedback directly with Montelupo's management team, they never even responded. Clearly, they don't care about their patrons. I sadly won't be returning to Montelupo again as a customer - I value the money I work hard to earn, and want to spend it at businesses that value me as a customer.

Dearest gentle readers,…read more A most scandalous correction must be issued how careless of me. The establishment in question is none other than the divine Grassa, a name that now rolls off the tongue with the same richness as its most indulgent fare. And oh, what fare it is. Here, along the lively stretch of Portland, one may witness noodles brought to life before their very eyes fresh, authentic, and handled with a confidence that borders on audacity. These delicate strands are then enrobed in a mac and cheese so decadently composed, so brazenly elevated, that it dares to redefine comfort itself. And just when one believes it cannot be improved enter the pig belly. Crisp, tender, and unapologetically rich... a finishing touch that transforms the dish into something whispered about in only the most exclusive of circles. Yes, dear reader, this is the sort of indulgence that lingers long after the final bite... the kind that ruins lesser versions without remorse. And so, with that final truth properly set, I take my leave once more. The tales of this fair city draw to a close, but not without leaving behind a most delicious legacy. Until our next adventure ever eastward. Yours most faithfully,

Let me start by saying I didn't take pictures. For anyone who reads my reviews, that's a big part…read moreof them: ALL THE PICTURES. Presentation, portions, half eaten, etc... but I didn't. Because the food was so damn good. Look - I'm going to start off by saying I grew up practically on The Hill. Out here, you'll have to Google it (make sure to add 'RI' to the search or you'll get some political BS), but back east, "alls you's have ta say" was those two words and anyone would know you knew your Italian, food and otherwise. There isn't anything on this coast that vaguely compares to The Hill's food, but walking into and biting out of Geraldi's was having a little piece of home. There's this little shop in the old town where the owner knew your voice when you called to order... you'd walk in, and you heard "hey cousin!" whether you were or not, and that's the vibe you get from Geraldi's. The food is much the same - you get something that looks like Nonna was at the range all day with her sauce (it's not gravy - no meat) and you came home looking like you haven't eaten in weeks: "I'm gonna fatten you up before you leave" and you walked out the door with a sub (sandwich, that is - not a submarine) that weighed the same as a newborn. We got three of those babies: a Chicago Beef (seal of approval from the orderer - only 'complaint' was that they had to eat it all in one day because the bread was quote too soggy to make it to lunch the next day - travesty), an Italian sausage (just as delicious when 1/2 was reheated the next day) and a Chicken Parmeroni (I thought somehow even better when 1/2 was reheated the next day) and I could have absolutely gone back the next day if it weren't for A. the leftovers 2/3 of us had and B. the meal planning we'd done for the week. I also grabbed a side of giardiniera because I will get it anytime I see it available and I inhaled it - I need to know if I can by it by the vat instead of the side cups because it too was similar to what I can find at home (about practically nowhere out here) and amazing!! I'm still upset I didn't take pictures though!
