Ashley Slater is a true gem, and I feel incredibly lucky to have found her! I originally discovered Ashley through Yelp after seeing a few jaw-dropping photos of her work at her previous salon. I always rely on Yelp to find great stylists, and in Ashley's case, her portfolio spoke for itself. The more pictures I found of her color work and cuts, the more I could see just how versatile, creative, and technically skilled she was. I knew I had to reach out. Although she had already moved on from that salon, the person who responded was kind enough to give me her contact info--and I'm forever grateful they did! Ashley responded quickly, and I was able to book a consultation for a much-needed color correction. I had tried to go back to my natural ash-blonde shade and cover my grays, but the result from my previous stylist was way off: red tones I didn't want, and my grays still showing. From the moment I met Ashley, I felt completely at ease. She gave me a full, thoughtful, one-hour consultation--no rushing, no pressure. She really listened and took the time to understand not only what I wanted but how my hair behaves (which, as many of us know, makes all the difference). Ultimately, because of how my hair pulled red and my natural tones, we pivoted to a short, platinum blonde bob--and WOW. I've never felt more confident in my appearance. The cut alone transformed how my hair falls. I used to avoid thinning because I thought my hair was too fine, but the way Ashley explained it and the result she gave me--sleek, flattering, and no more boxy ends--was a game changer. I've never had a cut lay this well. This is now my haircut! And the color? I've shown stylists inspiration photos before, and left looking nothing like them. Not with Ashley. This time, the result was so close to my inspiration photo, I actually couldn't believe it. Beyond her talent, Ashley is just a genuinely kind and warm person. The reason for the 1 star is because although the salon manager on staff was nice, Posh Salon wrote a negative and threatening response to my review and I reported this to the Salon and they did not respond. In those rooms contain a ton of different types of stylists. Stylists which include those who specialize in color, extensions, waxing, botox, skin treatments and of course, hair. What makes it interesting is that all of these stylists rent rooms in this huge salon. You can go into Grapevine Salons and get everything done from any of their stylists. If you want hand made jewelery they have a stylist there who sells handmade jewelery right from their little room. I dig this place. If you are waiting on your hair stylist to finish up with anther client, they have cushioned chairs right outside of the rooms for your comfort. Now the building is deceiving from the outside, but you walk in and it's very pretty inside. Shiny chandeliers and warmer interior. Every "business" has their own room.. It can b confusing because all rooms are down a series of hallways.. Think rat maze.. But after the first time you know where your going. Now back to Britney, she has done my hair, my daughters hair and my husbands. You can schedule with her on style seat and generally get in fairly quickly. Jenna Hendrickson first did my hair when she was going to the Paul Mitchell Cosmetology School in Dallas (where I live). I had such a positive experience with her, that I made it a point to stay in contact with her. Her career began in Austin and I subsequently had a wedding to attend in Austin and had her do my hair for the second time. Yes, she is worth taking time out of a traveling schedule for her to do your hair! She has done my hair one other time when I was in Austin for business. I obviously can't drive to Austin every time I need a trim, but I wish I could. I have gone through 3 different hair stylist in Dallas the last few years; I simply can't find someone in Dallas that I like as much as I like Jenna in Austin. I always save "bigger" changes to my hair with Jenna because I trust her expertise over others. For example, my last visit with Jenna, I had her color my hair darker than I had ever done before. She really talks to you about color. She has such an understanding of color and really takes the time to educate you on the process, so you get exactly what you want- the best possible result! She also cut my bangs the way I have always wanted them to look! I had tried in the past to communicate to other stylists what I wanted, but Jenna really took the time to understand what I wanted and shaped them perfectly. She's also great about recommending products that will help with whatever issues you have with your hair (in my case, my hair is very think and can get oily quickly). After my most recent haircut with Jenna, I got asked out on a date and then another guy asked me out after the first. Not only is she an award-winning stylist, but she's also honest with pricing (I have really thin hair and she charges me less) and does a fantastic job every time. I've been going back to Soonie for a couple of years now. It's nice to have a stylist who knows exactly what you want, every time. She recently gave my 4-year old daughter a cute and stylish haircut too. I can't speak to the other stylists at Grapevine or the establishment as a whole, but Soonie rocks. read more

This review is for Candy of Elegant Nails by Candy. Candy is quick, clean and a pro when it comes to doing OPI Gel manicures (that's what I came to her for). She has a slew of polish choices and is always getting new polishes in as they're released. I like her cute little office in the salon. I also followed her over to the new location (they moved quite a while ago). I miss Candy. She was right around the corner from where I lived. Parking was easy, getting into/out of the shopping center was easy. I could be in and out in less than 30 minutes (sometimes). She's FAST! This past weekend I was in my roommate's incredibly beautiful and fun wedding. All of us bridesmaids showed up to the venue around 1pm to start getting our hair and makeup done. BRANDY VEYSEY along with two others did all of our hair. They were there earlier than we were, they were completely set up, and ready to rock-n-roll when we got there. Naturally the weather was tormenting every woman's hair, especially those of us who have naturally curly hair that is long. To top it off, most all of us had planned to wear our hair down, so we had to switch up plans last minute realizing that the humidity was simply not going to disapate. :( Considering the fact that hair down never takes as long as an updo, I am seriously impressed with the fact they stayed on schedule AND we all came out looking amazing. I was one of the first girls to talk with Robin (one of the girls helping Brandy do hair). I told her how I wanted to wear my hair down because I was concerned about what an updo looks like on me considering I have a little extra weight on me and I was wearing a strapless dress. (Granted I worked out just as hard as any bride to look good in a wedding that wasn't mine, I still felt a little insecure about a strapless dress.) She could tell that I had anxiety about not being able to wear my hair down, again - humidity is the enemy of every curly haired woman in the world. I didn't want to be a fro ball walking down the aisle or in pictures. Robin spoke with Brandy and they were so kind. She offered up some suggestions and Robin told me to look up some ideas we discussed while I was getting my makeup started and be ready to get after it when the first part of makeup was over with. Before I sat down I showed them what I was thinking and then Robin went to town! She got me glossed, smothed, schelacked, and perfectly coifed to pass me along to Brandy. Brandy then finished off the style, which had a very cool take on one of thepictures I found. I have to say, I have never looked better in my life than I did that night. 1/3 of that was my beautiful hairdo (the other was 1/3 makeup and 1/3 great dress). Without Robin and Brandy calming me down and coming up with something great I don't know if I would have felt near as confident as I did that evening. Heck, I even had the courage to be flirtatious and not wear a sweater on the dance floor! Heeeey! All of the Bridesmaids, the bride, the floower girls, and Moms looked incredible. And since most of us had planned to wear our hair down and switched to updos based on the icky weather they should have been really behind schedule. They weren't. They were on top of it! Seriously, I have no idea how they pulled it all off. Truly, ladies, go see Brady and let her give an awesome boost to your ego because she does fabulous work. This review is for MECHE ORGANIC SALON (Kim Whitted), one of the independent salon businesses in Grapevine. Thanks for fun, wonderful hair, Kim... and a really enjoyable couple hours during the transformation!! Kim's Meche Organic Salon is a neat little place. In the larger Grapevine salon, Meche has its own serene, big-windowed room. Add nice music, scented towels, tons of good reading for your under-the-dryer time, and Kim, and that's a nice environment! I wanted to color my hair (for the first time in years), and have a cut with a lot more "fun" in it - take off a few inches, add swoopy side bangs, more vavoom etc. I told Kim I was interested in a darker, warmer, more vibrant color. She showed me some great options, weighed in on how each would look with my eye and skin color, and then encouraged me to choose (and stick with) the color we were both initially drawn to. Sometimes you need your stylist to weigh in like that. The color and the cut turned out gorgeous!! Since my hair is pretty fine, she used a razor instead of scissors, which added tons of texture and movement. The organic products (shampoo & conditioner, dye) are wonderful. No harsh smells, no tingly scalp, etc. Just rich color and beautiful shine. Also, I really enjoyed the time spent talking with Kim. We talked about Seattle, Austin, food, New Orleans, runaway home renovation, behavior problem dogs we adore, quirky family, etc. (I know of another Austin stylist who gives great cuts, but there is such a deep chasm between our interests I'd go in prepared for an hour of seriously awkward small talk. Boo.) Time with Kim flew by... and at the end, voila: beautiful hair, nice new stylist in my life. I give Kim / Meche my highest recommendation. read more

So I came into Grapevine Salons to get my hair done and it feels like a sauna! Does the building manager always keep the temperature at 80 degrees when it's 70 degrees outside? It's so uncomfortable to get color when you're trying not to sweat. When I asked my stylist about it they said they've complained to the manager on several occasions and was told an AC tech came out came out to check the building. Well it's still hot in several rooms. It's so unprofessional of this facility to have their workers working in a hostile environment. I hope the next time I come the building is much more comfortable temperature wise. read more

Kelly Cook gave me the worst hair cut of my life! (Get ready for an overlong, crying over my bad hair cut review) I chose to try the Grapevine Salons on South Mopac when my last hair stylist missed a big chunk of my hair when cutting. I wanted a slightly less expensive hair cut (I was shooting for $40 instead of $55), and a co-worker told me how much she enjoyed her stylist there (who was beyond even the $55 range). I looked through the website of stylists, who each have their own page.... Only a few of them had prices listed. Many didn't have pictures or personal descriptions. So I was supposed to pick a random name and call for pricing? No. I choose one of the stylists, Kelly Cook, who had prices listed ($40 for a woman's cut); there was also a link to her website. I checked out her site, thought she sounded trust worthy. She even had a deal going- $5 off the first hair cut. I scheduled an appointment for that afternoon, at 3:30 pm (she had something to do with her kids that evening and couldn't do a 4 pm). When I sat in her chair I told her that my last stylist had left a chunk of hair and that I was wary of new stylists. I asked for a slight change in style- to have my bangs parted to the side rather than down the middle. I also told her I wanted my layers trimmed and that my last stylist had thinned the ends of my hair a bit (it's thick and curly and a bit bushy). Not a problem! She washed my hair, we do the standard gossip chat, which was tolerable enough. She told me that this time for the same price she'd quickly straighten and then cut it so the ends will certainly be even (it would cost more the next time). Ok, this is nice, though a bit fishy. Just about every one's hair looks good when it's straightened, and I would rather know what my hair will look like how I normally style it (and is it really that hard to evenly cut wavy hair when it's wet? My last stylist only had trouble with it once). She did the trim and proceeded to texturize the crud out of my hair. Everyone's been making comments about how short it is- it looks like she took an extra 2 inches off! At the end of the cut she dove in to frame my layers to my face- I DID NOT ASK FOR THIS, and had she asked, I would have said NO! For this alone she gets one star. When dry the shortest strands of my hair curl up to my eyes and stand out to make my hair look HUGE. I have to pin these back or I will NOT go out with my hair down. How long is it going to take for those lost inches to grow back out? Ugh. And this was before the bangs were cut. I told her that my hair will conceal bits of my bangs when it's first cut, so I pulled the rest back into a pony tail so the bangs could fall forward and none would be missed. I know myself well enough to know that if I find a few stray hairs I'll cut them myself, and I told her so. She parted my hair to the side, told me the smaller side will need some time to properly grow out and match. No problem. After the first stab at it the bigger side looked pretty good and framed my face nicely, but the small side was just cut straight and in no way even to the other side. I asked her to put a bit of a curve in the smaller side, and she somewhat managed. This is when I noticed that parts of the framing aren't staying in my pony tail; ugh! It was longer than the bangs themselves; I asked her to cut it into the bangs. I kept asking her to tweek- I don't want to go home and butcher it because it's off and I hate it. They ended up being almost straight across, with one strand of about 10 hairs that's much longer (about the length of the longest strand on the other side). At the outside of the level hair it's slightly texturized so it actually looks shorter on the outside. The other side is curved to be longer on the other side; my bangs are uneven and oddly matched. In addition, there is one strand that was part of my hair that's now part of my bangs. It's towards the middle, part of the bigger side, and doesn't lay right. I have to pin it back every day when I wear my hair up. At some point she says, with annoyance in her voice," What I did that you OBVIOUSLY don't like is cut your layers to frame your face." By this time I'm going into unhappy haircut shock. She tells me the longer bits can just be tucked behind my ears. Really? Is that the right solution? Finally I decide it looks acceptable; or, actually, I'm afraid she'll screw it up even more. I tell her it's fine, she makes up a 4x6 of my info. I numbly give her my email address ect, and she charges me the original $40. I didn't tell her I saw her site and so she did not give me the $5 off. I was too out of it to ask for it. As soon as I examined the cut in my car I started crying. I'm never going back to her or the Grapevine Salons again. read more

She did the best eyebrow threading I've ever had and didn't rush through it like so many wax salons do. She's quick and obviously experienced, but not in a rush. This isn't so much a salon, as a stylist vendor hall. Every "office" is a different stylists shop. This is nice because you can truly get any service, there is a huge amount of variety. It is not so nice, because you don't get the whole "salon" treatment. If you like privacy, then it would be a great place to go. I'm a social bug and like people watching in the salon, so I do miss that a little bit. It is weird when you walk in, because their is little direction or signage and no receptionist. It is all worth it though if you go to Red Ivy, Ivy is the best stylist I have ever had the pleasure of working with. I highly recommend her. read more

Her attention to detail and gentleness is superior to other places I've been to. I've been threading my eyebrows for over ten years and with Anila it was by far the most pleasurable. I went to to see Kim Whitted at Meche Organic Salon (inside Grapevine) after seeing she had a Groupon available. I'm a very poor college student so I try to find the deals when I can, but I also have been looking for a regular person to do my hair for a while now. I'm so sick of bouncing around from salon to salon and being unhappy with the end result. I figured the Groupon was a good way to test the waters with someone new. Well, I think I finally found someone that I can stick with!! Kim did an awesome job... I went in with very long and VERY damaged hair and she took off the perfect amount to keep my length (I hate it when hair dressers take it too short, it happens almost every time). She also gave me some more layers. My hair feels and looks SO MUCH healthier now. Additionally, I got an all-over color... I went from a lighter brown to a darker brown and asked for a very, very slight reddish tint. Kim got the color perfectly (also a rarity). I also love the organic products she uses... my hair felt magically soft after leaving her salon, AND it didn't smell like hair dye!! What a plus! :) I will definitely be going back to see her again! I have been going to Katie Wensowitch for some time now. My previous stylist was way up in North Austin and I wanted something more convenient to my South Austin location. Katie has done a great job from day one. She really listens to what I want and she understands curly hair. She is also great at highlights. I have gotten so many compliments since I've been going to her. Now that I trust her, I can go in and say "I'm open to anything, what do you think I should do to change things up". She always has great suggestions. She is kind and funny which makes for good "girl time" while I'm there. This is a review for JC Ramos Styling at Grapevine salon. This was my first apt at JC Ramos styling. I had a bad experience. I believe if you pay over $200.00 for haircolor and a cut you need to leave looking like it. I spoke with him on the phone about what I wanted and when I got to the salon he said he did not have time. He was not interested in looking at any photos. I ask for a refund and was told he would usually try to fix the problem and would not give me a refund in a very nice way. I declined having him fix my hair because I had lost all trust in him. Just to let everyone know this is the first time I have ever posted a review on Yelp. Please do yourself a favor and find another hairstyist. read more

Garyn Gibbs is awesome I've known Garyn for a few years now she's always done my nails I get a shellac manicure and pedicure every other week with her. She is always a joy to see very upbeat personality and the ability to make you feel as though you are talking to an old friend. She does an amazing job on my nails to the point that I even convinced my husband to get a manicure with her every other week with me which he also looks forward to. Recently my stylist was unable to do my hair due to the fact that she was on maternity leave she recommended Garyn to do my hair as well as my husband he is extremely picky does not like the use of clipper and demands his hair be done with scissors only very precisely I am also very particular about my color as well as my haircut. But she managed to do an excellent job on him and a wonderful job on me. Finding a good stylist is important you have to trust the person with scissors coming at your head and I completely trust her. Sadly to say my original stylist is going to take some time off for a while but on the bright side Garyn is a true gem and both myself and my husband are extremely lucky to have found her. She also has a very flexible schedule we have to come in late due to my husband's work and sometimes on a Saturday and she's always been able to accommodate us as long as we could work with her. I look forward to our visits and can't wait to see her again soon. So if you were looking for an amazing stylist that does it all give Garyn a call she is really one in 1 million.
