Where this place goes bad is the person that operates the cash register at the pharmacy counter. All the charm of a dentist drill... Been there three times now, got stuck with this gal that is plain rude. Never got welcomed to the pharmacy Never smiled, not once Waiting in line, never said "can I help you or thank you and does not know how to smile. My wife watched. Today my wife did the talking to her. Was not welcomed, she was rude. This unfriendly register operated makes one want to leave. I'm hoping the manger responds to this. I'm not done. This is the perfect little hometown pharmacy. They treat you with hospitality and kindness every time you come in. They answer the phone when you call. Stop going to those chain ‍ pharmacy's that treat you like a number and come enjoy the personal touch you receive here. They don't automatically refill prescriptions like other pharmacies. Do you have to call every month and renew your order so if you're the kind of person who is super forgetful and likes that your pharmacy automatically refills your medication this would not be the pharmacy for you. read more

We were met with a friendly face welcoming us to the store and she asked if she could help us. We got there just in time before she closed her stand, but she made time for us! I asked her what her favorite flavor was and she suggested the "hula girl", it was absolutely delicious. My husband got the Manha Manha(sp?) and he loved it as well. I made and scheduled an outing to grants pass pharmacy for my residents to experience soda their way....they loved the atmosphere when we walked in....at 2:21....we were a group of roughly 15. The youngsters that helped us were absolutely AMAZING!!!! But we were approached shortly after 3pm by Kim the pharmacist with her telling our whole group, quite rudely I might add, that the place closes at 3...rushing us when we hadn't even been gotten to by the kids behind the counter. A pharmacy that has an old-time soda fountain? I love it! It's that romantic notion of Main Street USA and the "good-ol'-days". It really is cool that Grants Pass has this wonderful little place in historic downtown. This review is for the soda fountain and not the rest of the store. I walked in at lunch time and it was very busy. There are only a half dozen tables and several stools at the soda fountain. The two girls who were working seemed frantic and stressed. I wasn't greeted happily but almost with annoyance that yet another customer was ordering something. You order at the counter if you are going to sit at a table, which is what we were doing. The menu was not posted in an obvious place and it took me a few minutes to figure out what they had to order. There were minimal food offerings. I got a lunch special: soup and half a sandwich. The soup was chicken dumpling and the sandwich I ordered was pastrami on dark rye with provolone cheese. I also got a green river soda. The soda was fantastic! The lunch, well... The soup was pretty good. The thick broth and dumplings were yummy but the chicken was that cubed and processed stuff. My sandwich was not that great. Not much pastrami and no mustard - just mayo. Come enjoy the soda fountain in this place with a milkshake or soda. But skip the food. read more

I am a licensed CNA, I called on behalf of a patient who had serious errors in her med packets and the woman I spoke to was unbelievably rude and unprofessional. she claimed that there was no possibility that they made the error even though these packets come sealed straight from their pharmacy. she repeatedly tried to say we had to have tampered with the closed packets. This place is awesome! No other place exists like this anywhere in the world. For 25 cents you can get a phosphate, which is defined as a "sweet & sour refresher". A kind-of old-skool soda from a soda fountain. You can decide one to three different flavors mixed with phosphorus-to give it a sour kick to it. And, it's amazing that you can get a soda for quarter! And, they have coffee for 10 cents, you really can't beat those prices at all. I have a lot of fun memories at this place, and hopefully many more to come. read more

I grew up in Southern Oregon and went to the Grants Pass Pharmacy often. I wanted to introduce my young daughter to it, so we went. It hasn't changed at all, except the staff seems really unhappy to be working there. We showed up at 5 (they closed at 6), and were treated as an annoyance, not as customers. We weren't given glass dishes, because they didn't want to wash them again. What? They very obviously wanted to be out of there, ASAP, and wanted us out, too, even though they weren't closing for another hour. The ice cream is still great and so are the sodas, but now there are little signs on everything telling you not to do things. Our favorite were two signs in the bathroom. One said, "Two people must never be in the bathroom together," right above one that said "Every child must be supervised by a parent in the bathroom." I get it. It's a small-town pharmacy that probably doesn't want to deal with tourists. I know we can be a pain. I'll probably be back, because it's still the best soda fountain in the state. But I'll be sure to go in the middle of the day and be ready toe the line. read more

Worst pharmacy I have been to in the last few years. Gave them over 6 months and despite the fact I came in for the same prescriptions every month, there was always one reason or another I would have to come back the next day, or end up coming back twice. Then when all the prescriptions were filled on a different day, they have a policy which prevents you from filling even one day early so I could never get them back to being filled on the same day. Now I have to go back tomorrow for 1 prescription tomorrow and will have the same problem again next month. If you want a quaint small town pharmacy with ambiance, this is the place. If you want a professional pharmacy that always has the meds you need in stock, I suggest looking at other options. read more

My husband and I were in town visiting my cousin. This review is just for the food. My cousin told us that we had to try the 25¢ phosphates, so we stopped here. I was hungry so we got in line. According to the menu, the food doesn't get served until 11am but lucky for us it was 11:01am. The cashier was very rude to us when we asked to order food. I don't think she realized that it was after 11am. Then, she turned her back on us and another girl helped us. The drinks were very good. The chili dog was yummy. This has got to be the slowest service I have ever encountered. Everybody who was working in here was moving at a snails pace and that is being generous. I ordered 3 hot dogs, 2 bowls clam chowder, and a pb & j sandwich. The hot dogs were made first, then the clam chowder and finally, the sandwich that took 15 minutes to make. It took almost an hour just to get my phosphates because the guy working had to meticulously put effort into just putting the lids on the drinks he was making and then very slowly clear the bar of dirty glasses. This place used to be a great place to eat or even just get an ice cream, but if it's going to take an hour just to get a milkshake, it is simply not worth it. We ended up leaving before even getting ice cream and just walked down to Blind Georges where the people greet you with a smile and have efficient service. read more

Wow the phosphates are so good and only $0.50! Phosphates are like a soda but I felt like it made me more full than a soda and you can customize it more easily. I ordered the dirty monkey (banana/ chocolate) which tasted like a chocolate banana shake without the milk! Maybe that's a poor description but it was really good. The gummy bear tasted like a Hawaiian punch and I sipped a few others and enjoyed them. You can order them to go as well, though they cost slightly more (still a steal though). They sell umpqua ice cream here at $2 a scoop- which is always yummy. They have regular soda and coffee and some deli sandwiches there too along with shakes and malts. There is also a section of sweet gifts and even a selection of Christmas and Halloween decorations/ villages. Make sure you walk around the store. On the shelf above the merchandise is a collection of old pharmacy antiques that are cool to check out. We had really great service from a young woman who recommended flavors and helped us out, though at other points it was a bit harder to get attention for service and some of the employees were more friendly than others. As a whole, however, service is fine. It looked like street parking was the best option, though I don't remember having to pay. read more

A must go to every time we visit Grants Pass! It's tradition to get the phosphates when we are in town. Sad to see the prices went up a little, they used to be .25 but are now .75 I believe. Still a great value though! Love that we can pick our flavors. Visited about a month ago and our whole group enjoyed their drinks and ice cream. The gift shop is fun to explore. Only complaint is I was just in town last weekend, we went to get our phosphates and the store was closed. The sign on the door said they closed @ 3 on Saturday but when I had looked up the website it had said open until 5. I just looked again and google appears to have the correct time. What a fun flashback to yesteryear. It's been so long since I sat at a soda fountain or had a good malt, or phosphate! Fun, but crowded atmosphere, serving ice cream and cool beverages on a hot day. Hat's off to "Raina" who was juggling the lion's share of customers at the bar/counter. She just kept on smiling and taking great care of the bustling crowd. They also offer a short deli menu, but it closed at 3:00 and we missed it. There is a small dining area if you don't want to drink/dine while perched on a bar stool. One large scoop of ice cream is $1.25 - no tax. Totally awesome. I had cookie dough. The big hit of the day we went on was the black Licorice. My dad got it and it turned his teeth black for hours. Hilarious. I do not like black licorice but I tried the ice cream and I have to say- it was pretty dang good. We went around 2:00pm on a Friday and the place was packed! I love coming here when I visit my nieces. One of them is old enough to order for me, and the youths working the counter don't mind taking the orders from a very, very small child. I love that I can get Green River too, it's a soda that's hard for me to find! When we came in last week two women brought a dog with them. We were annoyed (two of us are allergic, it was NOT a service animal), but relieved when the manager kindly let the women know that animals are not allowed. They argued, and made a scene, but the manager never swayed--and she was never anything less than utterly professional. I look forward to coming here when I'm in town again. read more

Also told me that their hours were until 6:00, but that I should come an hour early "because they have to clean up to close on time." Sorry, that's not how hours work. Recently on my first visit I had a negative experience at this pharmacy at a time that I very much needed empathy and kindness. I agree with the review that the staff seemed mad that they had to do the job task. When questioned about the change of prescription, staff became extremely defensive. When it was explained that the Dr. had changed it without notifying me, I excepted the change and started to leave. Only to have a very young clerk tell me that I was rude to the store! WOW, now that is customer service I am not accustomed to. I later called the store to speak with the store manager only to met with "someone" not sure who. This person didn't identify herself until I asked and didn't seem concerned. After reading the reviews it seems to me that the fountain is the attraction and not the business itself. After 4 years of mistakes, mis-labeling, incorrectly filled prescriptions and frequent brusqueness, I am finished with Grants Pass Pharmacy. When I called attention to their latest error, I was met with rude behavior by the pharmacist/owner who was sneering about how the "don't just make things up." Perhaps not, but they certainly do make a lot of mistakes. I prefer to use locally owned businesses whenever possible, but not when they don't perform the service for which they are being paid. When you add outrageously poor customer service to the mix, well, there are plenty of national pharmacies that will be happy to take my business. I've noticed a decrease in quality of merchandise in the gift department and a decrease in service level at the soda fountain. I wouldn't be surprised to see Grants Pass Pharmacy close within a few years. Too bad, but they did it to themselves. read more
