The truck itself is fun, painted with bright tropical colors and scenes, and they seem to be known for their loaded tots and bao buns. I placed my order on the touchscreen outside and then sat down to wait for my food. For lunch on this day I went with the buffalo chicken tots and the Island Piggy bao. The menu described the bao as kalua pork, BBQ sauce, tropical salsa, and pickled red onions. The buffalo chicken tots were described as buttermilk fried chicken, buffalo sauce, jack cheddar cheese, house made pickles, and ranch dressing. It took less than 10 minutes for my food to be ready and I sat down at one of the shaded picnic tables. When I opened everything up it all looked good, but I did notice that the tots were missing the house made pickles. I started with the bao and thought it was pretty good. The kalua pork was super juicy and the bao bun was light and fluffy while still holding together well. The pickled onions added a nice acidity and the tropical salsa brought good flavor. The only thing I did not notice much was the BBQ sauce. After that I dug into the tots. The tots themselves were cooked nicely with a crispy outside and soft inside. The chicken was good as well with a nice batter and the buffalo sauce added flavor while the cheese was gooey. The only thing worth noting is that the chicken was softer than expected and not very crispy. It worked since I did have the texture from the crispy tots, but it stood out. The bottom line for me is that I would head back here again in the future. I would probably not order both a bao and tots again as it was a lot of food, but I would definitely come back for one or the other.

I really wanted to try Maui venison and was so happy to see it on the menu. I was ecstatic to taste it and the entire plate was a beautiful masterpiece of culinary art! The grilled Kauai shrimp were equally spectacular and worthy of celebration! I love that they use Hawaiian produce, meat, and seafood, but even more importantly, they are skilled experts who create wonderful melodic flavors with their local ingredients! I also got a delicious refreshing smoothie but drank it all before taking a picture.

We tried the Unagi Donburi, Shrimp Donburi, Samurai Roll, California Roll, Gyoza, and Cucumber Salad. The donburi does not have the egg mixture over the rice so they are more like bowls. The rice is really fluffy and it also comes with an avocado salad. The shrimp is cooked tempura style and is crispy and yummy. The unagi was grilled and tasty too. The sushi is really good and fresh. We enjoyed the gyoza and the cucumber salad was sliced super thin and so refreshing. The food reminded us of the food we ate in Japan and tasted authentic. The flavors are subtle but flavorful. The prices are what you would typically pay in a Japanese restaurant. It's nice to have another good option for Japanese food on Maui!

Its lively, well lit and lot of options to choose from including tropical fruits. There is non- stop music going on which adds to the charm of the place. This is probably only on Sundays after business close so the parking lot is free. One thing I learnt is Maui has plenty food truck kinda areas especially on Sundays, but there are dedicated food truck places running all week too. If you want to taste real Maui food, food trucks are best bet as they use local recipes and local ingredients with a personalized touch. The Maui Food Market has lot of shopping options too like a Korean bag shop, jewelry, art and so on. I was specifically looking for Maui magnets for my fridge, did not find those, but enjoyed the fruit cup. It was refreshing.

They have a cute little setup with a covered area for eating, plenty of tables, and even events happening from time to time. I think you can rent the space out too if you're planning your own event. Some of my favorite trucks here are Da Soriano Grindz for their calamansi pork belly plate (seriously hits every time), Aloha Pho Maui when I'm in the mood for Vietnamese, and Street Market Boba--because no visit is complete without a dessert and a good boba fix. I love that you can come with friends or family, and everyone can find something totally different to enjoy. From Filipino to Vietnamese to Mexican and more, the variety makes it an easy pick. Whether you're just grabbing lunch or hanging out for a bit, Da Tambayan is definitely worth checking out.

I like that there's a large seating area with clean picnic tables under a shade cloth. Lots of parking, so no reason not to stop in here.
