I treated my sister and 9 year old niece to afternoon tea here, my first visit and my niece's first afternoon tea. The smallish parking lot was almost full when I arrived a little after 2pm, but most people were shopping for shortbread in the shop section. They have an impressive range of different types and flavors of shortbread on offer here. Reservations are required for afternoon tea, and I would recommend calling as opposed to filling out the email form on the website. I walked in to the cozy tearoom and was quickly seated. The room was cozy and the table set with items from Britain. Additionally, they had nice holiday decorations out, which lent a festive air. Service was very friendly, and we never felt neglected, even when the shop was busy. While I waited for my tea companions, I perused the tea selection. Lots of options, from fruity herbals to traditional black teas. My family soon arrived and our tea orders were taken. I went traditional in my selection of PG Tips (a British black tea blend). Each person received their own teapot, with cozy. The teapots stayed hot the entire time, which was nice. We had sugar cubes and milk to add if so desired. Everyone seemed happy with their tea selection, my niece even finished her teapot of blueberry tea. The tea tower of food came out soon after our teas. The sandwich/savory tier had both cucumber and roast beef sandwiches, along with sausage rolls. All were hearty and delicious, and the bread was soft and fresh, not dried out. A tangy mustard sauce complemented the sausage rolls nicely. Then there were three large scones, one plain and one cranberry. These were served with butter, strawberry jam and cream. The top tier consisted of fruit along with lemon curd, chocolate mousse and cream tarts, each with a shortbread base. All delicious and perfectly sized. Their was more than enough food for us, and I ended up taking quite a bit of the scones and savories home with me. The sweets were the biggest hits with my niece. After the tier was removed and boxed up, one more treat was served. It was a delicious combination of chocolate, whipped cream and a brownie base. It earned a thumbs up from my niece. I grabbed a couple shortbread treats for later on my way out. They were all rich and flavorful, as were the leftovers from the tea itself. This was a wonderful holiday treat, and a friendly and tasty introduction to afternoon tea for my niece. I will be back for some more shortbread and another afternoon tea with friends and family. High tea...yes please! I love the casual nature of this spot. Non pretentious environment with some tasty treats and eats. They specialize in homemade shortbread cookies but make a whole lot more in-house. Sausage rolls...check. Homemade mustard...check. Merengue strawberry shortcake dessert... yep that too. Reservations required for the high tea but stop in anytime for some shortbread cookies or other fun things. We went browsing in the antique shops nearby and made a day of it. So nice and relaxing. My coworker and I were walking along the road after eating at Filbert's and were very intrigued by a new spotting of Granny Fi's storefront. There were British fans strung all along the parking lot with signs promising delicious shortbread. As we came closer, we could smell butter and caramelized sugar wafting through the door. We made a quick stop inside just to see what kind of selection they had. The owner greeted us with such enthusiasm, explaining that she had only recently opened the high tea room and her shortbread cookie recipe spanned back from her mom's days in Edinburgh. There was everything from traditional flavors to chocolate ones, even some vegan. Then we spied the high tea and picnic menus and knew we had to make a reservation to return here for our next foodie experience. The day of our get together, the owner called to let her know a major accident had occurred in Aurora and to be careful getting here. Luckily it cleared by the time we hit the road. However, there was a controlled burn just down the road that was mucking up the air. It was so smokey, our outdoor picnic had to come inside. The backyard looked so quaint and whimsical, but we would have to wait another time. The staff had no problem relocating us. They apologized for not being to accommodate us outside. Regardless, the interior was so charming. Most of the walls consisted of enlarged photos of some buildings and streets the owner personally took in the UK. Multiple tables and chairs were antique mix and match sets. Our teas were served in some cute floral sleeves. And our food came in Tupperware tucked inside a picnic basket. The coronation chicken was a little dry. It did have some of that nutty tang but was lacking in curry sauce. The scotch eggs were super delicious. The egg was perfectly boiled and wrapped in some well-seasoned sausage. The fried coating on the outside held together well. Lastly there were also some cucumber sandwiches. For dessert, there was fruit cake, which I'm not a fan of. They are always dry with an excessive ratio of candied fruit clusters. But the shortbread was great. No matter what flavor they were, they were buttery, and broke apart in your mouth in all the right places. I am glad we stumbled upon this cute place. Came here with three of my girlfriends over the weekend and it was a better experience than I'd imagine. This is my first time attending a high-tea, but the $40 was worth the experience. The little place is so cute, with variety is tables & lounge areas where you can host small and large groups. The staff are so friendly and welcoming, of course walked us through the entire ordering process. My favorite part was we didn't feel rushed to enjoy are the baked goods that were brought out. Really cosy ambience and sweet place to hangout. I don't think it's worth the price, though. High tea service shouldn't be grocery-store teabags all served at the same temp. We were given a fine sliver of shortbread as a welcome. Tea sandwiches were something like I would make for my kid's lunch: supermarket turkey and cheese. All the same. Some sandwich variety and a bit of heightened recipes would be good (like classic cucumber, smoked salmon, egg salad, herbed cheese, coronation salad, roasted veg... on sandwich rectangles, triangles, rolls, white and wheat). The sausage roll was good, but a bit greasy and heavy. The scone was decent, but served cold. My friend had the sweets on top, so I can't comment on those. All in all, I love the atmosphere and can support the attempt, but I expect better quality at the $45 price point. read more

We chanced upon this place while we we were on our way to Chug coffee after our trip to the tulip festival. And, boy am I glad that we stopped and went in. This place is literally short red heaven. They have shortbread of every flavor you can imagine and also offer samples. After trying a bunch of samples I ended up buying the traditional shortbread, hazelnut shortbread and the millionaires. Every single one of them was buttery and delicious. They also have vegan and gluten free options available for folks who have dietary restrictions. The person at the store said that they are in the process of converting the place next door into a tea room and I just can't wait for that. Great place to meet a friend, sit down for a rest and talk about all the great finds in the antique shops! Would be so cute for a little girls tea party also! The owner, Fiona, was a delight! So friendly and welcoming, she told us all about her grandmother's recipe for shortbread and how she is keeping the tradition alive. Now the shortbread.....truly the best!!! I came across Granny Fi's when my sister and I were at the Farmers Market in Vancouver, WA. I had the pleasure of meeting the one and only Granny Fi (short for Fiona) at her booth, and she was just the sweetest woman ever. I'm a huge fan of Irish/Scottish/English desserts, such as shortbread, sticky toffee pudding, bread pudding, etc. I saw that Granny Fi particularly specialized in shortbread cookies, so I asked if she had any chocolate millionaire. Chocolate millionaire is one of my all-time favorite type of cookies. If you haven't had them before, they are kind of like Twix chocolate. They have a shortbread cookie on the bottom with a caramel middle layer and chocolate layer on top. It was meant to be, because she had one package of millionaire shortbread cookies left. I bought the last bag and enjoyed every morsel of it. Granny Fi's millionaire shortbread cookies totally exceeded my expectations. The shortbread had a nice crumbly texture, and the caramel was so rich and buttery. I thought it was cool that Granny Fi made her own chocolate layer. I've typically had millionaires with a chocolate ganache top layer. I actually preferred Granny Fi's solid chocolate layer, because it added to the crunchy texture. Granny Fi's chocolate millionaire's shortbread cookies left such a positive impression on me that I made sure to order more when I got back home to California. A week after my trip I ordered additional products including regular chocolate millionaire's, Scotch Whisky flavored chocolate millionaire's, and a chocolate top shortbread. I placed my order on a Tuesday and got it by Friday. I appreciated the speedy shipping! The cookies came in perfect condition, and she even put in a complimentary lemon shortbread cookie for me.
