We happen to take a short drive around the Aurora area. The downtown area is very charming, there are a lot of antique stores throughout the downtown area and many other shops. One of our stops was the White Rabbit Bakery, we heard some great things about the bakery. As you walk in your are greeted by very friendly staff. The entry has a huge display case with many sweet treats. One caught my eye, the Oatmeal Caramel Cream Whoopie Pie. Wow lots of flavor, the outer layers have a lot of flavor, love the Oatmeal blend and the Caramel Cream, so much flavor, I should have bought two of them. They also serve breakfast sandwiches and some yummy looking lunch sandwiches such as pastrami, Chipotle Bacon, Avocado and Turkey, Italian and many others. Loved the variety of gluten free treats. They are delicious and if you didn't tell me they were GF I would never have known. They make it just right. Squishy, soft, fresh and moist... yep I said it! Stopped here looking for some breakfast after an early visit to the sunflower fields. I arrived about 15 minutes after they opened but it was already packed! The inside is very cozy and welcoming. I ordered some cinnamon rolls, peach cobbler scones, and pineapple coconut coffee cake to take home. Everything was delicious, but hands down the cinnamon rolls were the best ones I've ever had. White Rabbit is one of my favorite places to go in the Willamette Valley. They are a delightful place and lunch is served all day, so if you need a sandwich for later they've got you covered. I discovered this bakery while on a business errand in Hubbard Oregon. I did a search on gluten free bakeries and this one showed up located on my way back to Portland. I ordered a slice of quiche, warmed up hot, and it was so so yummy. I asked whether there was sugar in the crust recipe and they confirmed there was not. The crust was one of the best GF crusts I've ever tasted. And, it came out piping hot! I also took some sweets to go - their cinnamon roll, Mexican Wedding cookies, and a jar of locally made Hazelnut butter. All were wonderful. Not too sweet. We were visiting a friend and they recommended trying White Rabbit. Such a cute bakery in Aurora! We stopped by twice during the weekend - breakfast and lunch! Everything is good. You can't go wrong. I love their constant change of baked goods with fun, unique flavor combinations. This weekend for example you could find apricot & lavender oat bars or Marion Berry cinnamon rolls. I've driven by so many times, but never when they were open and I wanted something to eat. Today was different. I was driving by around 1 pm and I needed lunch. I ordered the The Chipotle TBA , their extremely popular turkey, bacon, and avocado sandwich with havarti cheese, chipotle mayo, sea salt, cracked pepper and lettuce on focaccia which came with a bag of Sea Salt Potato Chips and a pickle spear on the side ($10.50). Their pastry case was filled with a great selection of yummy looking baked goods, most of them gluten free. I couldn't resist taking home the Chai Blueberry Scone and an Original Cinnamon Roll. I took my lunch to a pretty park nearby and ate amongst the trees. The sandwich was terrific, super fresh baked bread filled with fresh, ripe ingredients. When I got home I shared the scone with a friend, it was so good that I really can't wait to go back! Really charming place we stumbled upon after having lunch at Filbert's. Layout and decor of the place was warm and inviting with little whimsical decorations. Would have liked to try to sandwiches but we only had room for dessert. Paleo brownie was ok. It was pretty dry. Marionberry cupcake interior was really delicious and the cake itself was moist but the tasteless icing was more shortening than buttercream. I ended up scraping it off. The real gem was their cinnamon roll. Perfect consistency and ratio of cream cheese to dough. It we w very gratifying treat. Love this place. Environment is a cool old building converted to a well put together cafe space, great food, coffee, and snacks. Short drive off I-5 and close to Aurora Airport for visiting pilots or airport personnel. Excellent gluten free stuff also. Totally worth it. They serve tasty local coffee and espresso from Cellar Door coffee roaster in Portland, and the baristas do a good job with the drinks. The Turkey Cranberry on gluten free focaccia is my favorite, wouldn't know the bread was GF if I hadn't asked for it. Turkey Dijon Apple Gouda on the focaccia was also really good but I'd ask the sandwich person to go lighter on the Dijon. All the baked goods were delicious. Prices, portions, quality and service are on spot. These folks did everything right as far as local cafe and small business are concerned.
