As my wife and I walked around Mt Washington on the morning before departing Pittsburgh while on a road trip, we stopped at Grandview Bakery for a pastry. They had a very large selection to choose from, so I took a chocolate glazed donut and my wife had an apple strudel. Both were very tasty, though they didn't really knock our socks off. She had a cup of coffee as well, which was somewhat like typical diner coffee -- not really what one expects from a bakery. The space is quite large, and there was plenty of seating. They have tables for two or for a whole family. The employees seemed somewhat surly. The restrooms could have used a little work. Overall, the pastries satisfied our desire for something sweet at midmorning on a Sunday. Would I go back? Maybe, but I wouldn't go out of my way. read more

We go to all kinds of bakery's around Pittsburgh, and this has to be one of the best! Everything I have ever gotten from here has been delicious. There is certainly a "Grand View" at this bakery! Not only is it located at the top of Pittsburgh and just a few steps from the overlooks and inclines, but it also adds a beautiful aroma to the street which leads you right in. This bustling bakery certainly makes a number of delicious items ranging from cookies, specialized cakes, cupcakes, brownies, and many pastries/donuts. What don't they offer? It was my first time to the bakery and it certainly seemed like a local favorite! We got there after noon and I was hoping for a bigger selection but still they had wonderfully decorated cakes, lots of cupcakes, brownies and 7 layer bars, cookies, a few doughnuts and what we got this gigantic chocolate cake drenched in fudge icing with piles of white icing both under the chocolate and on top of the cake. Think of a hoho that tastes good. $3.50 for a piece that generously fed both of us. Years ago I had one of these somewhere and I was hoping that this would replicate what I had before. It did. It was wonderful. No picture though because it was down my tummny....fast. I thought prices were reasonable, service was friendly. And the best thing is the easiest access is up the Monongahela Incline, turn right to Shiloh St. Beautiful view of "downtahn". Stopped here for some coffee while I was running errands and ended up picking up some muffins because they looked so good. You purchase your coffee cup at the counter and serve yourself from the carafes on a separate table. The coffee was better than I expected! Like something you'd brew at home. Service at the counter was very good. The person who waited on me was friendly, helpful, and efficient. I chose 4 muffins: 1 chocolate chip, 1 orange-cranberry, 1 blueberry, and 1 lemon poppyseed. Although the base batter they use was good, the flavors were disappointing. My kids were fine with chocolate chip one they split, but the other three were really lacking in flavor, most likely because there was almost zero detectible added flavor. I counted exactly 4 blueberries in the large muffin. Barely any specks of orange or cranberry. Enough poppyseeds, but no lemon flavor. On a blind taste test, I wouldn't have known which was which because they all tasted the same. I love neighborhood bakeries and don't expect a transformational experience whenever I visit one. I just hope they could put some flavor into an otherwise good product! read more

Love this place...their baked goods are well balanced and flavorful. Their recipes/icing aren't oversugared with flat flavors like many Pgh bakeries who have been skating by on name recognition for years. Prices are fantastic too and the ladies that work there are welcoming to everyone, not just the locals. I've tried many of their items and favorites are the banana split cupcake, fruity pebbles crueller donut (these go quick in the AM), baklava, eclair, and pecan bars. The only thing I have not liked is the Napoleon. They are open late 4 nights, very close to the outlook, and there is plenty of seating and parking across the street. State Covid-19 procedures are followed as well, again, unlike certain other local bakeries. read more

I love how many goodies this bakery has. Walked in and all the shelves were full. I love that they have something no matter what sweet you're craving. They are a little expensive but supporting local businesses is a must so I say go for it! The donuts are huge and super good. Well worth it. I believe they also specialize in making custom cakes. I visited Grandview Bakery last fall with family who live in the area. We rode the Monongahela Incline up to the top of the slope and visited Shiloh Street, where Grandview is located. We decided to stop in for a sweet snack and check out the bakery. It was great! Everything we tried was delicious, the staff was super friendly, and I loved their cake displays.We had some salted caramels and a peanut butter brownie. While visiting Pittsburgh we went up to Mount Washington to check out some of the spectacular views. While walking around on Shiloh Street we happened across this bakery. This mom-and-pop operation had all of their Easter stuff ready to go and everything looked absolutely scrumptious. We got some coffee's and cookies which were delicious. We love stopping into Grandview for some sweets. There are lots of bakeries in the area, but most have a couple really good items and then the rest are mediocre at best. So you might have a favorite place to get donuts, but then the cookies at the same place are awful. There might be another place you'd go for cookies, but not have success with anything else. Grandview isn't one of those bakeries. We've had a variety of items, donuts, cupcakes, cookies, breakfast pastries etc and everything has been really good. The one thing I'm extremely pleased with is the lack of grease on their items. Sometimes I get donuts from other places and my mouth is coated with grease and all you can taste is fryer oil. These donuts taste like donuts, just the way they are supposed to. I also love that they are open later than traditional bakeries and the parking lot across the street is very convenient for parking. read more

Before eating at Packs and Dogs next door, we came to Grandview Bakery for goodies to take home. I'm placing emphasis on the GRAND in Grandview Bakery for their central display of pastries is sheer opulence. If Beelzebub had himself a bake sale, you'd have Grandview Bakery. Only a hellish soccer-mom could create such devilishly dazzling confections such as the 7 Layer Bars, Coconut Cream Pie Cupcakes, Paradise (Lost?) Muffins, Chocolate Temptation (rectangles of cake coated with white buttercream and hardened chocolate), and Cream Cheese Frosting Brownies among other monstrosities. The deadliest of all, however, was the Peanut Butter Mousse Parfait, which was so chokingly thick, I could not finish it in one sitting. I had the privilege of attending an event here last night and we had a great time. This place rocks. The owner and the rest of the staff were so nice. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and the smell of fresh baked goods in the air. The talent of the staff is very apparent by the looks of all the delish sweets available for purchase. They don't just look good either, because the cake pops were by far the best tasting I've ever had. Aside from the sweets they bake fresh bread too, and I couldn't leave without a loaf of egg bread. It was as expected, and that's perfect. A nice crust with a soft center that melts away in your mouth. I understand they are getting ready to start hosting classes on different things, and we got to try some of that out last night. From cupcakes to cake pops, icing a cake and making flowers, and do it yourself at home chocolate work, the staff taught us all kinds of things. We really enjoyed ourselves at the stations and would gladly pay to come back and take more lessons. Thank you for a good time! read more

I felt as though I had to give this place a couple tries before I rated it. I think because I really wanted to like it, since I was so excited to see a new business open up in my hood. First time I went in I was in the mood for something fallish, so I got the pumpkin muffin. Not a winner. It didn't have enough flavor in terms of pumpkin or cinnamon. I was really disappointed. BUT, I spotted these cute individual sized pineapple upside down cakes. Next time, I said to myself. So next time I visit, the pineapple upside down cake was MINE! AND, it was everything I'd hoped it would be! It was moist and full of pineapple flavor and...I wanted more!! Third time I go in was the tie breaker. I ordered a raspberry almond muffin and it was also moist and packed with flavor. This time I spotted my next object of affection, a pumpkin roll, with massive amounts of cream cheese inside. YUM-O! I will be back for that one! Although, the one teenage girl who who's helped me every time I've been in is a little grumpy. I get it, working on a Saturday morning is not fun, but good for you, you have a job! Make a good impression! So in the end I'm happy. So I've been here three times as various times of the day. They had a soft opening Saturday. Basically showing off the bakery, their menu, the cafe which isn't ready yet and the candy section. First, their breads look amazing, I brought home a nice shiny loaf of Italian bread. Different than what you may be used to if you're a Mancini's fan. This bread is dense, chewy and delicious, with a chewy crust. Slice off a nice piece, put it under the broiler, rub it with a little garlic and then drizzle a good virgin olive oil on it and a bit of sea salt. The donuts were gone by the time I got there all three times, but my mother who is an early riser told me the donuts are delicious. They have many varieties. She took home a jelly filled. Her favorite. The cakes looked phenomenal, especially a pineapple upside down cake that was calling my name, and, at only 6.99 it was a steal. I resisted and kept browsing. Again at noon there were almost sold out. The cupcake section looked good, a fresh batch of red velvet were just finished being iced and being put in the display case. Many varieties were featured in including an awesome looking double chocolate. The cookie showcase had some pretty tasty looking offerings. The oatmeal raisin and chocolate chocolate chip caught my eye, again I resisted and finally gave in and bought a decadent looking coconut macaroon. Almost as big as a haystack, these were crunchy on the outside and moist and chewy on the inside. Other offerings were brownies, home made candy including some of their chocolate covered cookies and normal confections. This bakery is also a cafe, so in the future they'll serve fresh coffee with their pastries. If you're a do it yourself kind of candy maker, there are thousands of molds for home made candy making, cake molds and other home do it yourself products. The Grandview bakery is a welcome addition to Mt Washington. They'll need to adjust the amount of the bakery products they bake to be able to stay open til closing. Just a warning though, the Bakery is on Shiloh Street and not Grandview Ave. read more

I recently went to Grandview Bakery because I was in need of cupcakes for a friend's birthday and I was totally impressed with the store, their selection and the taste of their cupcakes!! Of course I didn't get to try all the flavors, but all of the ones I did were awesome including Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough, Orange Creamscicle, Smore, Red Velvet, Raspberry Lemon and Chocolate Mocha! They had numerous options for gourmet cupcakes when I went in the afternoon and the prices were comparable to other cupcake bakeries I have been to, averaging approx. $2.00 a piece. Parking is available on the street or in a small lot across the street. The bakery is large and clean on the inside. They have 2 sides one offering baking supplies and the other all the bakery items. There is also a few small tables at the front of the shop where you can eat if you want. In addition to cupcakes, it appeared that they have a large selection of cakes/cookies/donuts and other delicious looking bake goodies! I was highly impressed and will definitely return! Okay, Pittsburghers will debate and defend the best of anything, but right now we're here to talk baked goods. Sugary, sticky, I should-not-have-eaten-the-whole-damn-thing sweets. Recently attended a Yelp Elite event at Grandview and was pleasantly delighted with what I experienced. Walking in you have the vintage hometown bakery feel. Grandview is a full service bakery with cookies, cakes, donuts, cannoli, quick breads, etc. They also have a very large selection of baking and candy making supplies. Difficult to find anymore. During the event we were instructed by their talented and passionate staff on how to make a icing rosettes and the proper (and easy) way to ice a cake. Also learned how to ice and fill cupcakes, make chocolate dipped candies and CAKE POPS. I scream that because I'm not a huge fan of them. Well, I wasn't....thanks to Grandview I am a convert. Delicious!!! The cupcakes' cake was a great texture and their buttercream is lovely. I picked up a Peaches and Cream coffee cake for $6.99! Whaaaaat? Let me tell you...my coworkers have housed it already. Extremely reasonable prices and amazing quality. I'm grabbing another piece of that coffee cake! What was even more impressive than the goods was the owner. The passion she has for her product and the amount of care and concern she it's into this place and her employees is what truly makes Grandview a sweet spot. read more

After my lunch in Mt Washington I decided to check out this bakery. It is located on a one way street which is Shiloh but they have a pay parking lot nearby. I went in and was amazed at what they had. Not only do they serve baked goods but you can also buy candy, and they have a whole area devoted to do it yourself baking. They also have molds for the different holidays or special events. Currently left over Christmas items are deeply discounted. They also sell breads and of course day old loaves. I was amazed at how decorated some of the basic cakes were. Prices are very reasonable. I told the lady this was my first visit so I asked what she recommended. She suggested i try the cheese cup danish with either a cherry or pineapple. I opted for the pineapple one. I then decided to purchase some cupcakes for my family. My son loves red velvet so I got two of those and my daughter likes carrot cake. I'm a fan of vanilla almond torte so by the time I was done i had half a dozen. She put them in a plastic holder for refrigeration or freezing. They have a few small tables where you can sit and eat your dessert. I had the danish and it was just enough to top off my lunch. I glanced around afterwards since my son likes to cook and it will give me good ideas of what to get him should he decide to bake on his own. This was my first time ordering from Grandview bakery and is hands down, best bakery ever!! I talked with Sarah, who was amazing to work with, about a custom cake for my mother in law's birthday party. I wanted a coffee theme decorated cake with coconut cake and icing. It surpassed my expectations. It looked absolutely beautiful and exactly what I had in mind. The coconut flavored cake, with coconut flavored buttercream icing was to die for.
