Great place to stop and get some good food when doing wine tours. Highly recommend the bacon Gouda mac and cheese. Super friendly wait and bar staff. Oh, yeah, and the wines are pretty darn good too. read more

The two stars is for the service and the atmosphere. Both are great, everyone is very nice that works there and it is a very cozy place to enjoy a nice snowy day however, the wine is just terrible. There are a lot of wineries to choose from in this area, so I would just pass this one right up. If you look at their menu you notice that the wine seems fairly cheap compared to others in the area, there is a reason for that. We got a bottle of Pinot Grigio and it actually tasted like nothing. Like if you don't like wine but want to drink something get this because it has zero flavor at all and is very very bland. It took six samples of red wine to find one that other people in are party liked and that wasn't even very good. They have a large food menu. We ordered Pretzel Sticks but they came out hard and cold. These have been ordered in the past and have been much better, maybe it was an off night. We also got peanut butter pie which tasted like it came out of a frozen box. Skip this place go down the road to Laurentia. read more

Grand River Cellars has always been the best winery in Madison! They are doing a stellar job during this pandemic and I can't wait to be able to go back and enjoy in person! In the meantime, their carry out is just as good as if there (see pic) read more

Love this place, their food and the Christmas craft show - thank you for keeping it going through this difficult time!

Love this place. Great food and love the sangria's. During the summer there is plenty of room outside. Lots of room inside as well.

As a Harvest Host, your winery was a wonderful place to visit. Delicious food and tasty wine. Great hospitality and a very accommodating host, Cindy! Camping next to the corn field, very peaceful. I will be back! read more

We had an excellent evening with wine and dinner out in the garden. There was a band playing in the back. Staff were super super helpful and nice read more

Stopped in here while touring with a rather large group of twenty for some wine and a meal. The establishment did an excellent job taking care of us, but it was obvious we were annoying those sitting adjacent. Maybe the staff should have separated us a bit more. It was not a bother to us, but definitely for others. Our staff worked hard and we were very pleased with the service we got. The establishment is beautiful and casual. It has a nice secluded feel. There was a nice menu selection and everyone seemed happy with the quality of their food. I had the pretzel sticks and dips. The dips were both flavorful and the pretzels had the perfect density. There were several, too many in my opinion, sweet wine choices. I tried two dry reds, the CASK and the Syrah. I'd order the Syrah again anytime. The CASK wasn't bad, it was very drinkable but the Syrah outshines it for sure. There was live music outside on the patio on the night that we were there. They offered tastings of oils and vinegars as well. I didn't find out if they make them or where they come from. I'd try this next time. They also had beer for the non-winos. This was our first time here and I will definitely go back and try it again! read more

Friendly staff, wonderful food, fun classes and entertainment! Highly recommend!!

First time at Grand River and I must say my experience was extraordinary. Ryan took care of us from the moment we walked in. He made a special birthday tasting tray for me, which made me feel like I was a special guest. He recommended his favorite which ended up being perfect for my mom and I. We will defiantly be back On our next visit. Thanks Ryan! read more

I love GRC! During these hard times grand river cellars has far exceeded my expectations. The staff is professional and treat me like family every time I place an order to go. Their food to go is amazing along with our wine selections and every time I want a different wine they suggest something great. Thank you GRC staff for being amazing! read more

Let me say we had a nice dinner and loved the food. We even enjoyed the band. But our bill was messed up and we commented to the waitress. She said it was right but then when she took it back to charge our card, she realized the mistake. They charged us for the extra. Now, yes we should pay for what we were ordered, but the at the same time. We were honest and was penalized. I did speak to the owner and she just said "okay". She didn't even thank us for being honest. I think if we had a problem like bad food, there would have been more of a response. To me, in the end perhaps the owner could have split the difference with us, especially after we were told the bill was correct. We won't be back! read more

2nd review on this place, 3rd time here I do not drink wine, so this review will not be based on wine. -Inside is dated, not like rustic, but just dated, the tile floor is gross looking. -Bathroom : mens door does not even shut (have to physically shut it) so ladies waiting to use theirs can see right in. -Food is ok, I went with the chicken pesto sandwich, served warm at best with chips, meh -Beer price I thought were fair, $5 for G.L. Im one that cant stand trying to have dinner and then having a full band playing inside an already small area, cant even have a conversation. I get places/people like it, but during 'dinner' time hours, that's the last thing I want to hear One TV, so if a game is on, forget it, the flat screen is basically broken anyway. Outside is super nice, day and night compared to inside. I would personally not come here, but mother-in-law enjoys it, so I go when they do. Finally, if you have one of those 'All around town' dinner discount books, one of the nice things about these books is that it helps decide where to eat each Saturday night (instead of the usual wife answer 'I don't know' =), hey, an extra $9-14 off is awesome. Well, this place does not except ANY discounts on Saturdays, yet all other places in this book do, disappointing/ what a joke. All in all this place needs some TLC, at least on the inside. Staff is friendly read more

I really wish I had listened to the reviewers who mention sub-standard food on plastic plates (not new with covid) and rude management. Not sure where all of the good reviews come from but this is a time to make a better choice in an area where there are so many choices. read more

I went there for my granddaughter wedding reception last night , we had choice of dinners. There were four of us at the table and we all had the steaks they were the worst steaks I have ever had.No one at are table could finish their meal.I had two bites and it was so tough that all I could eat. My one granddaughter took atleast eight steaks home that other people could not finish to give to her dog.The wine might be good but be careful on the food. read more

Please drive right by this one. Should you stop, disappointment is assured. Upon entering, it has a very appealing look - inviting and pleasant. The outdoor seating was beautiful and the band playing wasn't too loud that you couldn't have a conversation. The garden-like walkway was beautiful. That's where the pleasantries end. Once you're inside, you will be reminded of a second-rate golf course style decorating. Cheap, wobbly tables, plastic plates (and not even the good ones) and chairs which remind me of going to the dentist. On our visit, the dining room must've had a large party, because it was trashed - and remain trashed for our entire visit. Onto the wine...avoid it. At all costs, avoid it. Many wines here are lacking taste, completely. Nothing with a full body or pleasantly sweet. Whomever writes their descriptions has apparently never tasted anything other than gas station wine. Maybe a grocery store brand, but that's being generous. Just avoid it all. It's over-priced for the quality. The food - worse than the wine. My girlfriend ordered the Surf and Turf which was a lobster tail and sirloin. The Sirloin, oh the sirloin, better quality has come out of a Walmart Great Value bag. It was tasteless, as in completely bland. It's appearance was very deceiving. It looked as if it would be succulent and delicious, sadly it was not. The lobster tail was a rubbery as a child's bouncy ball. Hard to even digest. I had ordered the scallops with Caribbean vegetables, which I'm guessing came out of one of those steam bags found at Aldi's, which had expired but the clerk overlooked. The scallops were also bland, caked in butter, and you could've bounced them off a wall. They were DEFINITELY frozen, thawed, re-frozen then thawed one more time before being cooked. The butter was to mask the freeze dried taste. If all that wasn't bad enough, the server stated, "Oh, this is my second job so I don't know too much about the wines or menu." Well damn... In closing, AVOID THIS LITTLE WINERY at all costs. Unless you want a K-Mart style experience. There are SO MANY other wineries to visit that you won't regret skipping this one. read more

The good: atmosphere was inviting, wines were above average for the area, people were friendly. The bad: the server had no training whatsoever. He knew less than I did about the menu or the wine, and I'd never been there before. We ate lunch, which was mediocre at best. However, they have two wine tasting trays, so it's easy to sample their wines without the help of wait staff. The service was prompt. The wines were not bad at all. I'd visit this winery again, but I'll eat elsewhere. read more

While it is picturesque outside the inside leaves something to be desired. The tasting room/restaurant has no personality and gives you the feel of being in a production line. The wines are not spectacular but aren't bad if your looking for something easy to drink. While on site we heard about a cask tour for $6 you got an app and 2 special samples in the basement. This was the best part! We finally got the ambiance we wanted along with trying the two best wines of our visit! read more

Grand River Cellars - Tasting - Wineries Near Me - Madison, Ohio

See all

I have been going to Grand River Cellars for many years and in the past they have had an excellent preparation of their menu items. This year they have slipped to below par. They have updated their menu, but their service and food have slipped to an unacceptable level. My wife and I made reservations for dinner tonight on the patio. We both ordered our meals from the "specials menu". My wife ordered the Chardonnay scallops which she enjoyed. I ordered the mango salmon, which unfortunately came out stone cold. I flagged down our waitress to tell her about this and she promptly took it away and had it warmed up. It came back warmer, but still not up to what I would consider acceptable. She really ignored us for the entire meal, never bothering to check on us. I boxed up my dinner, and left no tip, which I never do, but I was so disappointed in their service and attention to their customers, that I could not leave a tip. I will have to think about coming back. They do have a very nice venue and facility, I just think they have to work on the basics. read more

A hidden gem ! Great Food and wine at reasonable prices. The staff is always so pleasant. Check out the nice patio on warm evenings with live entertainment.... One of my favorites ! read more

I liked this place. They had a nice fireplace, apps and some good wine. I didn't taste it, but I hear the Merlot reserve is the best. The wines we tried were sweet, which i'm not a big fan of. None the less, they were pretty good. I'd go here again. read more

Out in the middle of nowhere let me assure you... But what a great vibe and the food wasn't hit or miss! It was fine and the music was Latin Jazz with a little Bosa Nova! Oh wow I LOVE Bosa Nova!!!!! A friend and I came in dressed "work out clothes" as we were moving out here. Once sat, we waited 15 minutes for a server, the one who was covering our table ignored us 5x. Such a nice little winery! My husband and I recently went to GRC for the first time and we were both quite pleased. We sat at the bar and received friendly, knowledgeable and sincere service from Amy. We also met the owner who was genuine and welcoming to us. The wines were delightful and the prices affordable. My ONLY issue: PLASTIC! My husband ordered filet mignon and it came served on a plastic dinner plate, as did my order. Our cutlery was metal and the wines came served in glassware; why suddenly make us feel like we should be eating chips and hot dogs at an outdoor picnic? I admit: I'm a tree-hugger so seeing all the plastic-ware that is thrown out on a daily basis is very troubling to me and honestly effects my re-visiting of an establishment. Not to mention, it really takes away from the otherwise classy and cozy atmosphere of this winery. PLEASE: do away with the plastic 'dishes'. read more

One of my favorite places to eat. The wine is excellent, the food is great. My favorite is the aged ribeye, great steak.

Well, we tried this place on Fathers Day, with a reservation. Seated immediately, and thought we were in a freezer. Temperature outside close to 90, inside maybe 60...wife went out to get stadium blankets from the car! Ordered a pitcher of sangria and two appetizers to share for the four of us. The artichoke dip platter was a small loaf of bread with about a half cup of the dip in the center. The cheese and fruit platter consisted of half a sliced apple wafer thin, 3 kinds of cheese , maybe 2 oz each, a few crackers and some seeds for $14. The sangria was excellent! We then ordered 4 more glasses of wine. The waitress was very rushed in talking to us. During the second wine round, she explained she was being sent home as it was slow, and asked if we were planning to order dinner? When we said yes, she asked if she could ring out our check for drinks and appetizers so she could get her top and go home. We obliged and paid the bill with tip that was $75 for the skimpy appetizers and the wine. Then came the second waitress. She took our order, and we were anxiously awaiting our dinner, and waiting and waiting and waiting. After 50 minutes, wondering where our 2 salads, one crab cake and the Pierogies special was, we asked her. She was rude and said it was coming up in the kitchen and it wasn't her fault! 5 minutes later she came back and said it would be more time as the crab cake was still in the oven, as they are baked. I make crab cakes at home and they bake no longer than 15 minutes! She also blamed the previous waitress, the one who left before this one took our order! We explained we were on a timetable, and would just leave without the dinner. She rushed off too the kitchen and then returned saying the kitchen could wrap it up to go for us. As we live 1 1/2 hours away we said no thanks and left as she was saying for the 3 rd time, "it wasn't my fault". Decent wine, overpriced food and really lousy service! read more

I am sitting at the restaurant as I write this review. I made a reservation for 18 people for a friend's birthday and we were all severely mistreated. They would not serve us (drinks or food) for over an hour because they thought we were intoxicated, even though everyone in the group was acting cordial and respectful. We had to call over management two times to eventually be served. I would not recommend this restaurant if you are planning a dinner for a large group or if you wanted to be treated with respect. There are many other options in the area so I would go to a different eatery establishment. read more

The food was okay. Wasn't very impressed with the wine. It was chilly in the area we sat. Service was good though.

On Saturday 10/3/20, our group of 6 was told that they could not accommodate our party and we needed to go elsewhere. I understand them not being able to fit us in (especially with COVID precautions); however, it was the way it was communicated to us that was completely unacceptable. They stated it in a rude and dismissive manner and did not care about our experience. There was no authentic apology and no service recovery attempted. They should have communicated to us in a respectful and apologetic manner and could have given us suggestions on what to do instead. This establishment needs service recovery training - service recovery is the basics of the service industry!!! Awful experience and customer service - will never return. read more

Arrived at 8pm on saturday..open til 10pm. Hostess rudely stated we cannot accommodate a party of 6. Stated we need to go elsewhere to drink. Was dropped off as a part of a party bus wine tour from our hotel. Stood for 45 mins of our 3 hour tour waiting for a ride elsewhere. Asked for bar service while we waited and rejected. Wasted my party bus money standing waiting for my ride. Winery should refund us bus money. Staff at winery were rude and did not care about our situation. Will never return. read more

I can't believe it took me this long to write a review! I hosted my best friend's bachelorette dinner here in August. We were a group of 16 in the Wine Cave. I pre-selected all of the food, we did heavy appetizers, and wine - they table was upon arrival (THANK YOU!) It was SO beautiful, the food was SO good, the wine was EXCELLENT, the service was INCREDIBLE. I would definitely go back and do this setup all over again for any event in the future. Thank you Grand River Cellars!!! read more

The most AMAZING staff! This is our favorite go to summer winery! We were here last in July (it was packed!) and Hoping to make it back up to the area this fall. The hostesses were great at accommodating everyone. Reservations are necessary on weekends as they have less tables than normal due to covid. April was our server last time we were there and she was amazing. Very knowledgeable and helpful with all of our questions. Great wine, great food, great atmosphere! The owner Cindy is the best! We love the cask wine and Austins red. A definite must any time we're in the area! read more

Just don't. We decided this was a good option based on the menu on their website. Don't be fooled!! The bacon and bleu chips were literally just Lays brand broken chips out of a bag. The oil tasting tray was decent, but was probably because we were starving at this point. We proceeded to wait over an hour for our meal only to be served on plastic plates... Our food was cold, extremely subpar and the waitress could never be found. We couldn't wait to get out of there. Please go somewhere else!! read more

What a beautiful winery. Staff was wonderful and the wine selection was great. Be sure to order the flight of wine first to taste them all.

This is my second favorite winery in Geneva. I have tried to eat there 3 times. The food is terrible! Great wine though!
