This was the worst experience I've ever had dining. The service was horrible. The food was mediocre. I asked to speak to a manager to make it right and the manager told me that they didn't care if they had bad reviews, because they knew they will get the business still being in Geneva. I told them I understood they may be overwhelmed, But they didn't care to make the simplest compensation to make it right. We never got 2 appetizers. She ignored amd entire end of our table? And never took their order. The Slovenia sausage was like a shriveled hot dog. The hostess was very rude and the wait staff was short and slow. The owners should be horrified with employees that are representing their business. We own several rental properties in Geneva, And will be taking this off of our list of recommendations for our rentals. read more

I stopped in today to try some wines. It had started raining so we tried the bar inside. We didn't eat but found the servers older and more established and VERY pleasant. We had been to 2 other vineyards prior to this one and had "don't bother me servers". We enjoyed this location very much. This was our first time visiting this winery even though we try to get up to the area as often as possible. Beautiful property. If we weren't dealing with scattered showers I would have loved to walk the grounds. Will 100% be back! We ordered a wine tasting and a cheese plate. Both VERY good. The cheese tray comes with plenty of bread, lol. Our waiter, DJ, was very nice and very accomidating. He obliged us in telling us the history of the winery. Fun. Delicious. Relaxing. Just a few words that describe our experience on a Saturday evening here. We came after another winery closed at 9pm. Few wineries stay open past that hour, however to our luck we found Grand River. Food. We ordered the Pears and Brie. Cranberry sauce. So delicious. Order it. Next food. We ordered the Buffalo Chicken Dip. Spicy, creamy, and delicious. Order it. Wine. Ordered "Austin's Red". It's an overall dry red blend with a subtle sweetness. We loved it. So much so that we finished our cool-looking bottle during our time here. Best part besides the taste: every bottle donates money to an Autism Awareness group. Entertainment. The band was phenomenal. Got the crowd up and danced. This place was the perfect end to a perfect day in this wine country. So get in your car. Drive to Grand River. Don't ask questions. Just order a wine quickly. Peruse their menu and rock your taste buds. Sit back and have a good time. You're welcome. *Be aware the food here is served on plastic. on 12/1 joined our besties, Steve and Carol Lageson for an evening out prior to the upcoming Christmas rush! Decided to try GRC for the first time in a LOOOONNNNGGG time. Talk about absence makes the heart grow fonder! Located off RT 528 south of RT 307 in Madison, this spot will be one to bookmark. First, it is perfect for a small gathering to a large gathering and you do not feel out of place with either one. A huge fireplace that allows for sitting and relaxing, along with a nicely appointed bar, with tables mixed about. Plus they can accommodate large groups in either the regular setting or use of a separate room. Either way, you can go big or go small. Steve is our groups "wine connoisseur" and he and Carol arrived first and made their selection. (Bad job out of me, I didn't catch their choice) When we arrived I was more inclined to grab a beer than wine and they had GLBC Christmas Ale on tap!! This alone would get 5-stars! And Linda choose a nice crisp house rose which was from the local area wineries, Debonne I believe. Then the food. A very good selection and the burger was just the thing tonight. Perfect and topped off with a brioche bun! Definitely matches the burger joints in #CLE! Won't go wrong with this choice. Carol got the steak and told me to try a piece. One word, WOW! tender, juicy and cooked to perfection, again a complete surprise. And don't forget deserts, which there is a limited selection but top notch as well, from the Chocolate Lover's Lava Cake (Steve and Carol's choice) to our Chocolate Chip Cookie Dough Cheesecake, save room folks!! We came here to partake in one of the stops for the ice wine festival. A certain room was dedicated to check in, then you were to go downstairs into the cellar for the tasting itself. Down stairs, they had a bar and several tables and chairs set up in order to have a place to enjoy the tasting. The cellar itself was decorated with snowflakes, lights, and polar bears - it would have felt kind of drab and dreary if it weren't for these decorations. In addition we sat at a table that was beside a wall and it appeared as if they were trying to hide what looked like black mold at the base of the wall and in some of the cracks. It was quite unappealing. We made our way through a packed stairwell that only had one handrail, making it challenging for the group coming down the stairs to descend safely. We went up to the bar area to see if they had any wine specials. Again the place was so full you could barely see what the deals were and we had to hunt down a wine list to even know what the options were. The other side of the building was a restaurant that we did not go into. I don't know, but this winery will not be on my return to list if I come back to this area. There was no flow throughout the building and safety was concerning with the stairs and possible mold. There are several additional options for food and wine. read more

My husband and I visited Grand River Cellars this afternoon before going to their boozy book fair. We were promptly seated. We sat and stared at our menus for 35 minutes. A waitress walked passed us not once, but twice. There were 4 people behind the bar not serving a single customer. There were 3 people walking around by the hostess seating area. Not a single person asked for our drink order. We left our menus on the table, walked into the book fair, and left without a single person asking about our visit. We will not be returning which is a shame because their wine list looked delicious. I cannot comment on the food as we didn't have the opportunity to eat any. We counted more than enough wait staff to handle both the outdoor patio and inside area. Please do better. Your waitresses had zero smiles on their faces and failed to say hello as they passed the table next to ours as well as my husband and I. read more

The food was just.... so disappointing. I'm writing this review after being there last night and can't get it off of my mind. We had a reservation for 5, only to wait, and then be served a FILET MIGNON on PLASTIC plates. I understand they have disclaimers about their capabilities, but you think "it can't be that bad.." We ordered the bourbon and blue as well as the Scallop special. We are 100% confident that all of this food is microwaved. My scallops were perfectly white, and rubbery. They had zero markings indicating that they were seared in a pan. My friends wine was warmer than my scallops. My fiancé ordered her steak medium. If came out rare, completely cold in the center, undercooked. She couldn't even finish it. The potatoes au gratin were from a hot hold and the vegetables had to be from a steam-fresh, microwaveable bag. To serve pretty high end food on plastic plates..I can't stop shaking my head. I will not go back. This ownership just need to do better. The service is unorganized and unprofessional. We heard servers laughing (we were at the table in front of the bar window where they pick up their drinks) about how they lost someone's credit card. This place is one of our favorite wineries to visit. The first time we visited it was around Thanksgiving time. The winery has lots of wines to try. They have a nice place to eat, and a great menu of wines to choose from. We have been here twice. We are visiting the area again in May of 2018. It is a crying shame when a winery with a nice location tries to be more than it should be, and that is what GRC did on Saturday night. A great venue, a good little cover band, the wine was WAY too sweet (but there was plenty of it at least), however the food was an abomination. Stick to sandwiches, salads and normally I would say pizza, but even their pizza was an embarrassment. I stupidly ordered lobster and my wife an angus filet (both over $30) and neither the quality or the execution were worth the money. Their charcuterie platter was served on a paper plate and had M&M trail mix on it--say no more. When you have a location that nice, keep it simple and do fewer things well. read more

We called this place in advance to inquire about the dinner and were told that kitchen is closing at 5:30 pm but we will be served if we make it before that time. We were at the restaurant at 5:28 coming all the way from Geneva on the Lakes but the hostess was not there. In a minute a waiter showed up and told us that business is slow and the kitchen closed earlier than 5:30. Apparently they didn't care to tell us about it when we called 20 min before that. The wine is exceptional! The place is very clean. HOWEVER...The service not so much(although she was taking care of 6 other tables by herself), nor the food. We ordered cheese burgers... burger was not hot/cheese not melted. It took a long time waiting to get a kinda warm burger. I waited and waited for the waitress to come back because I needed salt and pepper but ended up going to the bar and ask the bartender cuz our waitress never came back to our table. The rest of the staff mostly hung out at the bar area talking....we encountered this same problem when we came out on a Sunday afternoon in March when our son got killed in this area; waited half hour at the bar just to do a tasting and they weren't that busy. My wife picked GRC for our anniversary dinner based on internet searches since we live almost 3 hours away. We were vacationing at Geneva on the lake for 4 days. Since it was a Wednesday evening, they weren't very busy. Our server was very good, friendly and attentive. We ordered a sweet wine flight to start off, since we hoped to take a few bottles back home with us. When she brought us some ice water, my wife said to just take it back. Every winery in the area serves water, and the water is just horrible. It tastes like a swimming pool. We have a well supplying our home, and have become accustomed to water that doesn't taste like chemicals. I decided to taste the water just as the server was explaining that their water id bottled filtered water. Finally! Other wineries take note! Trying to cleanse your palate with swimming pool water does not do your wines any favors. The wine flight enabled us to pick a few favorites. I ordered the Filet and shrimp while my wife ordered the lobster tails. Both meals were excellent! No complaints about the food. The service was quick and efficient. Food came out in a reasonable time frame. We ended up taking home 3 bottles of wine, which our server was kind enough to get for us and bring to our table. A few things that were less than positive. First, the restaurant is not quite as nice as we had hoped. Looking at the website and the menu, we pictured something a bit "classier". Secondly, my wife made a reservation and specifically mentioned that we were coming for our wedding anniversary dinner. That fact seemed to go completely ignored. Our table was one of the worst in the place, and there was no mention, not even a piece of cake or anything. Since our check was well over $100, that would have been a nice gesture. Horrible experience! I was in a group with 9 people, we had dinner and wine and at the end of the evening we asked for 6 separate checks. 2 of the credit cards did not get processed properly. Grand River called and texted the person who made the reservation 12 times in less than 1 hour! None of the phone numbers were from Grand River's business phone but from separate cell phones of employees. The texts accused us of stealing and stated "why don't you do the right thing?!" Proper customer service would be having a manager call and explain there was an issue. NOT accuse a customer of stealing! Even though we were incredibly insulted, we are NOT thieves and called to give the credit card number again to clear up the issue. At that time, no apology was given or even a thank you for rectifying the situation. Unbelievably HORRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE! read more

Grand River Cellars is one of my favorite wineries in the area. We just celebrated a wonderful evening in the private wine cave with friends. The ambiance and fireplace was so inviting. We had a personal tasting led by Cindy and an excellent dinner. My friends who had never been to the winery before can't wait to come back. We are long-time local residents and patrons/supporters of Grand River Cellars. Instead of going elsewhere for Valentine's dinner, we made a reservation for Saturday at 4 pm to keep the tradition going. The service was great, and the food exceptional despite limitations of "real' plates and silverware, but the hostess and welcoming staff were horrible. When we requested a different table, even though the dining area was mostly vacated (at 4 pm??), we were dismissed, being told tables were double-booked and guests were arriving shortly. When I mentioned we had reservations for 4, this was discounted. I asked if there was any other table available and was told no. During our two-hour visit, only a few other tables became filled, not even the ones we inquired about, and it was apparent our request was denied for no apparent reason. We watched other patrons request other tables and be accommodated. Our Valentine's Dinner would have been much more enjoyable if perhaps your staff was more accommodating. Although we believe in supporting local business, not sure we will continue this tradition considering the unwelcome feeling we received tonight. Very disappointing. read more

The two stars is for the service and the atmosphere. Both are great, everyone is very nice that works there and it is a very cozy place to enjoy a nice snowy day however, the wine is just terrible. There are a lot of wineries to choose from in this area, so I would just pass this one right up. If you look at their menu you notice that the wine seems fairly cheap compared to others in the area, there is a reason for that. We got a bottle of Pinot Grigio and it actually tasted like nothing. Like if you don't like wine but want to drink something get this because it has zero flavor at all and is very very bland. It took six samples of red wine to find one that other people in are party liked and that wasn't even very good. They have a large food menu. We ordered Pretzel Sticks but they came out hard and cold. These have been ordered in the past and have been much better, maybe it was an off night. We also got peanut butter pie which tasted like it came out of a frozen box. Skip this place go down the road to Laurentia. read more
