On Saturday, we drove to the Madison Ohio area to sample wines from a few vineyards. Grand River Cellars was our first stop. We love the ambiance here. It's a wooded setting, which offers plenty of shade, and makes outdoor seating so nice. They also have a nice bar area indoors, if that is your preference. The servers are very polite and amiable. We enjoyed a bottle of Grand Red, which had a nice full bodied flavor. Very nice wine. read more

Stopped in on a warm Sunday (for March). We had our dog so I specifically called ahead and asked if they were dog friendly. She said yes, and then put me on hold to ask her manager if we could sit on the upper patio since it wasn't very busy. She said they would make an exception, so we drove out from another winery. After finding a table off to the corner (there were only two other tables occupied at the time)- the waitress said we had to move across the "parking lot" to an open gazebo that was clearly not set up for service yet. So we moved, but since we were in nowhere land we decided to just put the dog in the car to enjoy our wine back on the patio. I understand if you are not dog friendly, but I did call ahead and wouldn't have showed up if I knew we weren't going to be sitting within distance to enjoy the atmosphere. As for food - we ordered the artichoke dip and it had about 3/4 cup of dip - the rest was a chunk of bread. Margarita pizza was good. We'd come back again, but bummed how the evening went. read more

I had my rehearsal dinner here and it was amazing. We had as little room which was perfect. The food was beyond exceptional. I forgot our waiters name but he was phenomenal read more

I absolutely love everything about this place! The food was really good and very reasonably priced. You get a lot of food. I was particularly excited because they have a gluten free menu, and everything is really good! I know it sounds weird but if you're GF you'll know what I mean. They give you schar table crackers and not those weird seed crackers. I was so impressed! And the gluten free brownie (also vegan) was one of the best brownies I've ever had. The wine and hats was nice. We ate out on the patio and it was just beautiful. The service was excellent! I highly recommend going to this place read more

Grand River Cellars has one of the most beautiful wineries in Geneva. Sitting on the patio, you almost forget you're in Ohio--it feels like you've stumbled into a hidden spot in the California woods. The trees, the quiet, the fresh air--it's incredibly peaceful and picturesque. We didn't do a wine tasting, but my friends split a bottle of the Pinot, and they couldn't stop raving about it--perfectly dry and smooth. What truly set the vibe was the live music. A ukulele player played softly in the background with the most beautiful voice and playlist. It set the vibe for the evening. Now for the letdown: the food. We were surprised to be served appetizers on paper plates and water in paper cups. It felt like a mismatch for the otherwise elegant, scenic winery atmosphere. We ordered the hummus and veggie platter and were served Club crackers (literally from Walmart) alongside it. When we asked for more, we were charged extra--which felt a bit tacky, especially considering the quality. I ordered the pulled BBQ chicken sandwich for dinner, and unfortunately, it was a miss. The bun tasted like a basic Schwebel's sandwich bun, not toasted, and the chicken was dry and sparse. My friend got the salmon and had a similar experience--overcooked and disappointing for the price. Overall, go for the view, the wine, and the music--but don't come hungry or expect a gourmet food experience. read more

We enjoyed a glass of wine prior to a brush art event. They have great extras like this .... watch their website. In addition to the great wine we ordered some appetizers. Enjoyed the pretzel sticks, spinach artichoke dip and blue chips and bacon. Very attentive server. She also took care of us in the art room. The venue is very pleasing. Inside and outside seating. Beautiful drive in with grape vines on both sides. read more

Great service. Horrific dining experience. We had our rehearsal dinner the day before our wedding last weekend. Multiple people ended up sick the night before and day of our wedding. Had to send back food countless times. I personally was served a steak that was spoiled, tasted like biting into an iron flavor lemon. Do not eat here. Appalled that I planned a party here with the food they served us, horrific. read more

Beautiful winery with lovely indoor and outdoor seating. This is one of the few wineries in the area that offers food with table service. Their burgers and the local sausage were pretty good, and their wines are very nice. We purchased their Chardonnay to take home. read more

It's a beautiful little place with a nice patio. Service was great; we never waited for anything. Good food too!! But everything was on plastic plates and forks. Ambiance would be a lot better with real cutlery and plates read more

Never had bad service or a bad meal from here! I took my sister from out of town theere and her daughter. I did not realize it was close to closing time. We visit here every time we are in the area. Beautiful patio and view. Unfortunately the rain kept us inside but it is still relaxing. Limited lunch menu but still enough variety. Friendly, attentive and helpful service. We love their wine and it's reasonably priced as is the food. read more

One of the wineries in wine country. They are usually on one of the many trails. I have been here a few times, and honestly, in the beginning, I didn't care for it, but it grew on me, and my experiences got better every time. Their food is very good and they have a large selection of wines. There is an outside patio, very pretty in the fall. Unlike many other wineries, you wait to be seated, and some will wait on you. I think this one of the reasons they stand out. There is plenty of parking. I definitely recommend checking them out. read more

Never again. Used to got there for the music (Justo Saborit days) and the tipsy pig pizza. They have a tipsy pig flatbread so I tried that, it was a train wreck ,TEACH YOUR COOK HOW TO CUT FLATBREAD! I tore apart when we tried to cut it ourselves. And the music was cats screeching, couldn't wait to get out of there. There were more issues, just not worth typing any more, we won't be going back read more

I always enjoy the Grand River especially the ambiance, wine and sangria. However, I am seeing recent posts here and on Google maps from repeat customers disappointed by quality and service. I too felt my last two visits this summer were off, but do not like to post negative reviews. I am hopeful the issues being discussed are addressed and the Grand River can continue as a quality Winery with value dining. Best regards as I look forward to my next visit to restore my 5 star rating and hopefully once again enjoy the fall sangria with the actual cinnamon stick instead recent usage of a powder cinnamon. read more

Haven't been here for years, but it is a nice stop. We stopped for lunch on a Tuesday and there weren't many people, which was a plus for us. They said the menu was limited, but there were lots of choices. I started with a glass of Austin Red, which was fairly full bodied. My lunch choice was a Club Wrap, which came with chips, coleslaw and a pickle. The patio is beautiful and the music was playing softly so we could have a conversation and enjoy our wine. Food was delivered timely and my wrap was delicious. The chips were crunchy and the coleslaw was the best I have had in a while. Service was just ok, but I was more flabbergasted by the fact that the servers just walked by trash that was blowing around because it was so windy. Menus were flying off the tables, napkins off laps, and they just walked by them and actually stepped over them. read more

All 4 of us were served $23 steak dinners on plastic plates. I asked for gravy on my mashed potatoes and got none, no bread rolls served with dinner either. Just a steak with dry mashed potatoes and they put grated cheese on top. Who asked for cheese on my mashed potatoes? Not me. Unbelievable. You'd think that they would invest in a set of normal plates with the prices they charge. The only thing I enjoyed was the maple wine. read more

Came here for my mom's birthday. The property is absolutely beautiful. You drive by their farmland before driving up to the restaurant. We sat on a Bruschetta. It's absolutely beautiful. They have 3 various patios. Service was great, anything we tried from the food (there were 6 of us, so we were able to try a few things). Appetizers: Cheese Platter, Bruschetta, Bread basket Main Course: Steaks, pizza, salmon, salad, burger Desserts: chocolate cake, Limoncello cake Everything was very good read more

We went to the winery to have a bottle of wine and an appetizer. The seated us in the Gingerbread room ( cold basement). It was decorated with nice but cold. We stopped at the Grand River Cellars for dessert and I am so glad we did their desserts were delicious, and the service was excellent. The Chocolate Lava Bomb Cake was airy and rich. Very chocolatey and smooth. The Lemon Cake was pleasant tasting and finely created. The winery has a cute little patio and they have a full indoor restaurant. This place also has music in the evenings, with a small stage, check their calendar of events ahead of time. Grand River also offers community events throughout the months. Kudos to them for being so inclusive. Overall we enjoyed our desserts and our server was pleasant. I didn't talk about their wine but my Rose Blush was tasty and my companion enjoyed his semi dry white wine. Thanks again. read more

Loved the patio live music on a Thursday but we both agreed that the food was very mediocre. Beautiful location and good vibes but they need to hire a decent chef and this place would be five stars. The wine was better than the food. Service was good. Just kind of wonder if the owners are aware of how disparate the food is to everything else (as I see many other reviews complaining about it)? My burger was definitely a frozen burger, for example. read more

What a wonderful afternoon in a beautiful setting and superior service and delicious food and wine. Gabby, the server, did a fantastic job. It seemed that she was the only one working on the patio but she was patient and organized. Bonus, she was kind to my dog! We did the dry- to off-dry red flight to sample 9 of their wines ($14), the meat and cheese plate $10) and a slice of limoncello cake ($6). We ended up getting two bottles to go because we liked them so much. Bonus: Yelpers get $5 off any food purchase of $20 if you check in! Not sure how long that lasts but wanted to mention it. Dog friendly lower patio. read more

The wife and I love the place and the food and it's our favorite spot when we go out in that area. It has a great outdoor area for eating and listening to music. But after reading some of the reviews I felt it worth mentioning that we also had an incident. I brought a bottle for the "refill" program that they have going on and after eating our lunch I got the bill. Now mind you when the staff came out to give us the bill they looked at it first before giving it to us. On the bill I noticed I was charged twice for the bottle. Once for the Refill and once for a new bottle. When the guy came back I approached him about what happened and he wasn't even shocked that we had been billed twice. The wife found it very odd like he knew it and figured we were too tipsy to notice. "oh, yea, I'll get that removed, I told them to do that before and they didn't do it." So he did know about the error the first time, but didn't verify it was corrected, or ignored the fact it wasn't correct. And we where not tipsy as that was our first stop of the day and we just got the little flights to see what they had. The bartender was a bit rude as well when I asked him a question. This place is so much better than the rest, if only the staff had a better attitude. read more

I don't know what people are complaining about... Wish I had taken pictures to show how lovely this place is. I got the Greek salad and the oil and vinegar sampler with bread and it was delicious! The salad was huge and was a great "meal portion" with fresh ingredients and a perfect balance of flavors. The bread with oil and vinegar is a great item to nosh on between sips of vino. I tried the red sampler and the white/blush semi-sweet to dry; all fantastic wines, and the descriptions of each on the menu were spot on! I decided to get a sample of the maple ice wine and the port/ice wine blend... My. Goodness. I ended up getting a bottle of the maple ice wine because it was so unique and delicious. A lovely ice wine with subtle notes of maple. Not sickly sweet, and would honestly be a perfect compliment to something like bread pudding, French toast, or vanilla ice cream. The service? Phenomenal. Very sweet and attentive waitress who was more than happy to accommodate us moving inside to get into the AC, and she communicated well with the bartender so that it was seamless when we got our tab. The bartenders were happy to chat with us, and had no problem letting me purchase the dessert wine samplers after I closed out my other tab. Overall, I will absolutely be back again. Everything about this place was fantastic and I'm looking forward to my next visit! read more

We rented the party room at Grand River Cellars for my mother in law's 90th birthday party. The space was decorated so beautifully for the holidays! 32 adults and 8 great grandchildren came from all over the country to celebrate. The space worked out fantastic. The food was delicious. We opted for the pizza, pasta and salad buffet. They also accommodated family members who are vegan and gluten free. Our server Gabby was awesome. She refilled our drinks and buffet efficiently and with a smile. Grandma had a wonderful time suuounded by family. Pros: Beautiful exterior, good service Cons: we made a same day reservation and unfortunately we were placed in the "over flow" room. We couldn't hear the live music and the vibe in that room felt more like a catering event then the other side. We were served with a plastic cup and our food was on a plastic plate! I just can't get over this for a $20 meal. read more

This was the worst experience I've ever had dining. The service was horrible. The food was mediocre. I asked to speak to a manager to make it right and the manager told me that they didn't care if they had bad reviews, because they knew they will get the business still being in Geneva. I told them I understood they may be overwhelmed, But they didn't care to make the simplest compensation to make it right. We never got 2 appetizers. She ignored amd entire end of our table? And never took their order. The Slovenia sausage was like a shriveled hot dog. The hostess was very rude and the wait staff was short and slow. The owners should be horrified with employees that are representing their business. We own several rental properties in Geneva, And will be taking this off of our list of recommendations for our rentals. read more
