I can't believe I've never eaten here before! Passed it many times on my way to the movie theater. Really nice outdoor dining setup for a mall and the inside dining room is light and airy. I met a friend for lunch here. I had a short rib grilled cheese sandwich with a side salad. Delish! The horseradish sauce they brought with it was a really nice touch. Attended a party at this open hall catering venue. You rent it, decorate and clean it. The setup was very problematic with parking and the interior layout. When food was being served, there was no way to get to the bathrooms or the bar outside of a lot of pushing and shoving. No my kind of party hall. read more

As you can see from my prior reviews this was one of my favorites over the years for both lunch or dinner. I was here last year. Their menu is very extensive with many choices. You can always find something of interest on their menu. I returned here with my family of five twice for dinner recently. I will summarize both dinners here. On our first visit on a Friday we had to wait about 15 minutes for our table to be available. We had a nice booth near the kitchen area. I enjoyed my two blood orange martinis made with Tito's, Pierre Ferrand Dry Curacao and blood orange for $15. I also enjoyed my cafe beef wellington with an adequate number of filet mignon steak medallions properly cooked medium rare covered with crimini mushrooms and topped with warm puff pastry, served with madeira wine sauce, mashed potatoes and vegetables for $24.50. My dinner was quite filling. Everyone was pleased with their respective dinners. Trindell S. served us very well. My total bill was $224 less gratuity. After our dinner I bought a round of cocktails at their bar for my family and some friends, who arrived after our dinner. Seven of us dominated the empty bar. I enjoyed my Sam Adams seasonal draft beer for $8. Our bartender Miguel A. served us well. My total bar bill was $88 excluding gratuity. On our second visit on Saturday we had to wait about 45 minutes for our table. Our booth was on the furthest end of the room from the entrance. I enjoyed only one blood orange martini and their Jambalaya with shrimp and chicken for $22.50. I ordered white rice, but my Jambalaya was served with brown rice. I did not complain. Everyone was pleased with their respective dinners. Zanaya L. served us very well. My total bill was $175 less gratuity. Overall we were all pleased with our respective dinners both times. Here is a different review, I have eaten here before great food. This time I DID NOT EAT HERE but it's about the service, I am currently deployed I found out that my family went here for a dinner. I called and spoke to a kind helpful lady by the name of Katie. I told her I wanted to pay for my family's meal but obviously it would have to be over the phone. Which is something they do not do. She spent the time to ask her manager to see what we could do. My family's once finished with their meal their server maral took a picture of the receipt and sent it to me so I could pay online. I must admit the name itself had caught my attention. So, I looked it up and looked at the menu. The more I looked into it the more it made me want to have dinner there. We were visiting the Ikea in Paramus and if you know that Ikea (well really all the ikeas) its huge and it's a maze to get out of there. It builds up an appetite. It took a while to get seated, but it was a Monday and not many on so 1 host to seat us and 3 other parties before us made sense. Looking at the menu at the restaurant seemed different than online. It was a menu with a very full? Reminded me of the cheesecake factory menu and low and behold they are sister restaurants!! We started with the buffalo wings as appetizer. For our entrees I ordered a Grand lux burger melt, the description alone made my mouth water but in the back of my mind knowing it was cheesecakes sister I was skeptical. I still ordered it because the grilled parmesan cheese bread with lots of cheddar cheese, Grilled Onions except the thousand island dressing made my mouth water. I ordered it medium and no thousand island dressing and side of french fries. My husband stuck with a delux drive in burger which is basically a cheeseburger but its chargrilled. My daughter as alwaysss chicken fingers and fries. The appetizer and our drinks did take a bit to get to our table. Now one thing you gain when working for a restaurant is the eye to identify when meals sit for a while prior to being ran out to the table. Anddd guess what that was our wings appearance. Our meals took long as well to get to the table. I received my burger melt, as I took a nice bite my burger it was well done. Such a disappointment ! My husand was content and my daughter was not. How chicken fingers get screwed up I wasn't up to finding out. I had originally wanted to order the beignets on their dessert menu. The timing of everything was too delayed that the beignets were made to order as yummy as it sounded, I didn't want to wait 20 minutes for a dessert that may or may not satisfy me once received. Sadly, this restaurant no longer meets our expectations. The waitress and hostess was lovely and the environment was unremarkable. The food and drinks were at best poor. The short rib taco was gummy and soggy. The chicken salad sandwich was bland. The kid's meal burgers and quesadilla was just as bland and burned. The only acceptable dish was the fried cauliflower which I think is straight out of a bottle. I don't think we are food snobs but we have eaten at our fair share of restaurants. This place has turned into another plain chain like Olive Garden. We are in Northern Jersey and we have so many better options to spend 180$ on family meal for four. read more

We happened to be in NJ to do some shopping and after finishing we were in the mood for something casual. We chose to go to that place. Although we were just two we requested a small booth and the hostess accommodated us right away. We looked at the menu and we chose to get 2 apps and 2 main courses: Korean ribs, chicken samosas and as main courses we ordered the veal pasta and the bacon cheeseburger. Just not the Grand Lux Cafe experience I'm used to... I guess I've been spoiled with going to or seeing other larger Grand Lux Cafes, but this one just didn't have the same feel as those others. Food wise, this location was almost typical of the others and our waitress was very friendly, but the hostess could have been a bit more welcoming...let me elaborate. We dropped in on Christmas Eve, for lunch, and the restaurant had your average foot traffic. Not too busy, but there were still plenty of diners. Like many Grand Lux Cafes, if not all, this one is connected to a mall, specifically the Westfield Garden State Plaza Mall, so you will have to park at the mall lot, which can be VERY busy during weekends and, especially, the holidays. The 1st thing we immediately noticed was the layout of the restaurant. Instead of the usual cavernous interior, this Grand Lux was shaped like a banana (sorry...it's my best analogy). Basically, the dining area was to the right of the entrance. There wasn't really any view of the kitchen and the restaurant wasn't huge compared to other location. Not your typical Grand Lux layout, but not a big deal. However, something else really kind of put us off at the start...and that was the hostess. When we arrived, I stood at the hostess desk for a good 20 seconds as the hostess just stood there looking down. She basically ignored me for what felt like forever and then looked up like I was bothering her. She barely said a word when I told her we had a reservation and then led us to our table. We had a stroller with us, and unbeknownst to us, it was a fire hazard for booth seating, but we had requested to be seated at a booth (to be more socially distant). After we arrived at a regular table for 4, we asked if we could sit at a booth because of our earlier request, and that was when she finally told us (with an attitude) that the stroller was the reason we couldn't sit at one. We thought "OK, we placed a note to sit at a booth. How come you didn't tell us when we checked in that we couldn't sit at a booth because of the stroller and made us walk all the way in with it?" We would have ditched the stroller and put it back in the car if she had informed us of the safety rule. OK, so our meal here was off to a sort of strange start and we hadn't even ordered yet. To get to it, I'm glad to report, the service the rest of the meal was great though. Our waitress was fantastic and accommodating. If you're familiar with the Grand Lux menu, it's pretty similar to its sister restaurant, Cheesecake Factory. Since it was lunchtime, we decided to go the lunch specials route. We ordered a side of Mac and Cheese for our son. My wife ordered the Lunch Special Lemon Chicken Piccata and I went with the Lunch Special Simply Grilled Salmon (to share with our little one). The Mac and Cheese was definitely underwhelming. Oddly, it was made with fusilli pasta and the cheese was very bland. It hardly resembled a Mac and Cheese. Definitely not something we would order again. Unfortunately, the Mac and Cheese wasn't the last mistake we made as the Simply Grilled Salmon order was a much smaller serving than anticipated. In a way it was understandable because it was salmon and it's probably one of the more expensive items to produce, but even by salmon standards the serving was pretty small. It was served with a side of mashed potatoes, salad and, literally, 4 pieces of asparagus. When you can count how many pieces of a vegetable there are, it might be a serving size issue. And this is not a gourmet $500 a plate restaurant, but a restaurant better known for their large portions. Even though the serving size was underwhelming, the entree was OK. The flavors for the salmon and sides weren't horrendous, but it also could have been a little better still. Lastly, and, fortunately, the Lemon Chicken Piccata was a winner. It was definitely more of what we were accustomed to when going to a Grand Lux Cafe - large portion, filling and good flavor. The linguine was al dente, which is how I like my pasta and the chicken and sauce had a nice zesty flavor to it. My wife and I loved it and, in retrospect, we shouldn't have ordered the salmon and went with another pasta. Like I said, the experience was off from what we were used to at other Grand Lux Cafes. I'm a big proponent of comparing my experiences, especially when restaurants are chains and multiple locations exceled at providing a satisfying dining experience. Unfortunately, this is the closest Grand Lux to us and has some improving to do. (One last note - We noticed that not all waiters/waitresses were masking, which during the COVID-19 pandemic we've grown accustomed to at most dining establishments, so we're not sure if all of the employees are vaccinated or not, but if health/safety is a concern for you, just an FYI. If it's not a concern for you, then by all means ignore this note.) read more

You know what... I'm just gonna say it. I love Grand Lux Cafe and I'm giving them a 5-star rating despite how most chain restaurants rarely get that kind of recognition by diners. And here's why: From dining with them in the last 8+ years a dozen times, they have consistently delivered - tasty food that's well-presented, a great spacious & warm ambiance with awesome eclectic decor, thoughtful menu that's diverse without being overwhelming, GREAT service, awesome location (w/ indoor passage to the mall), great bar, and fair pricing despite it looking from the outside like it could rip your wallet out of your pants pocket. On my most recent lunch trip w/ my girl, we enjoyed everything from the bread, our meals, to the chocolate lava cake. My chicken piccata was al dente with just the right amount of creaminess to the sauce that wasn't "smothering in kiss of cheese", juicy and fragrant pieces of mushrooms, and chicken that was SO tender and juicy that my tongue was dancing w/ every bite! Seriously delicious and a surprise, to be honest. Her grilled salmon "bento" was a novel idea inspired by the Japanese namesake, and allowed her to enjoy a warm cup of bacon new england clam chowder that was seriously tasty, along with light and refreshing house salad and a juicy no-nonsense flame-kissed salmon w/ mashed potatoes. Only the asparagus was a bit underwhelming. Even their tea-bag mint tea was fragrant and delicious, arriving in a basket w/ tin kettle full of hot water and packets of gourmet honey. It almost tasted like the real loose-leaf moroccan mint tea. And lava cake was not overly sweet with oozing goodness that wrapped up our lunch in its velvety embrace. Oui oui! Our server was excellent - super attentive and cordial. In sum, I feel that Grand Lux Cafe is a restaurant that just gets me (and many other casual diners, no doubt) with its well-decorated, luxurious ambiance paired with great food and service, and deliver at a price point that does not break the bank. It's a great proposition really and it deserves your visit whether for a quick lunch, romantic dinner for two, or a gathering with friends, esp. if you're already visiting the mall. The menu had plenty choices but the deserts is not as plentiful as at the cheese cake factory. But your choices are still good. This is a restaurant for all occasions. I do enjoy the Atmosphere here at the Grand Luxe Cafe. There was no wait and we we were seated immediately near the bar. Our server took our drink orders pretty promptly. My sister had the Cucumber/mint lemonade which was so refreshingly delish. Although it was a wee bit sweeter than I normally prefer it is highly recommended to try it. Additional refills lacked the slice of cucumber as presented in the first serving? My entree was the BBQ Burger which was topped with two huge tempura battered onion rings drizzled with with the house special BBQ sauce. Very tasty. My burger was cooked to my preference and was huge. Pickles and thousand island dressing on bottom of bun. The applewood smoked bacon was served cris crossed on top of the burger again drizzled with the BBQ sauce. It was supposed to include cheddar cheese but that was very sparse. Also the bacon slices had very hard outsides that were so hard it made it inedible. It was still a messy tasty sandwich. For dessert we ordered the warm brownie sundae to share and with a big glob of fresh whipped cream, some vanilla Ice cream, a thin brownie and a little bit of fudge sauce and caramel. Honestly it was pretty dry. The server was somewhat attentive until I had to wait for an ice water for over 10 minutes. I felt like we were somewhat of a Bother For her to Serve us. Until last weekend I never really payed any attention to this place. I always thought that the Grand Lux Cafe was this big stuffy overpriced restaurant with it's fancy gold tiles and chandeliers, conveniently situated next to Bar Louie. Well I was wrong. I was very wrong and I can admit that. The Grand Lux is definitely not some shiny big fancy overpriced restaurant like I thought. In fact prices are very reasonable and very comparable to that of the Cheesecake Factory. And that's because they share the same Parent Company. I guess I never really payed any attention to that fact either until now. While visiting NJ I decided to eat at a restaurant at the Westfield Mall. I chose this restaurant because it had variety and was not as crowded as the food court downstairs. They have seafood and vegan options. The restaurant has a very nice bar, the staff are friendly and we were seated immediately. The restaurant is designed nice. The ambiance gave me a vacation vibe. We were at the mall trying out the new dreamscape in the AmC and decided to stop here for dinner since it was right next door. The ambience is rather nice however the booths seating seem very outdated, dirty and worn out. Service was ok. You can tell the lady was a bit overwhelm as she was not attentive but tried to be nice when we did manage to flag her down and even then she seemed like she has a list of other things she needed to attend to. Food took a rather long time to come and was rather longer for me since they messed up my order and brought me a turkey sandwhich instead of my requested turkey burger. so I sat and waited while other ate. Once my food eventually came it was good. The salmon 3 ways was ok. For Appetizers we got the shrimp spring rolls which were good to. My favorite overall though was the beignets. The food was very bland and it tasted like frozen food from a box that was heated up. It did not taste as if it was freshly made at all.
