They had very specific protocols that were still in place because of the rise of the new strain, but the service was impeccable. I have never been here before but my husband has come with coworkers. I was surprised at how large the seating area was and how busy for a Sunday afternoon. There were a lot of different Asian inspired options to choose from. The sushi tasted fresh and new food came out frequently. There were 5 different rows of buffet options including a sushi station and a hibachi station. I tried to taste a little of everything, but I don't know that I had a favorite. I liked that they also had a variety of soups. Overall I would probably come again, although it was a little too busy/cramped for my taste. read more

In my prior review I yada yada'd the ribs. This is the best item here, with the right amount of char and a quick hit of sweetness instead of the overpowering sauce found at some spots. Ginger lobster and bok choy were once again delightful, and this time I tried the sweet rice. In the fried/appetizery section, I got the cheese wontons again and got sweet and sour chicken for the first time. I appreciate the service; they skillfully deal with someone like me who wants to get some food, get some photos and get out in time for the 6:17 train, but also with the groups of eight who are more interactive. read more

This buffet was exceptionally clean. The staff were beyond nice and friendly. I feel as if it may be family-owned, especially given how coordinated everyone was. If it is not family-owned, the staff certainly act like one, which is awesome. A staff member was always cleaning the environment, showcasing their cleanliness. The staff also made sure to replenish any low food items and discard any old food, replacing it with fresh food. The staff were great at checking in for drink refills and taking away finished plates. They offer a great selection of foods and desserts, and also have a hibachi option. The buffet offers child-friendly foods as well, such as chicken nuggets, fries, onion rings, and pizza. There even great vegetarian options as well to enjoy. The only reason I deducted a star was due to the fact that some of the fresh fruits where not ripe, and unfortfunately cause me to have a little stomach pain. As well as throw up all the fruit I ate. I've driven past this buffet many times and finally decided to try it out. Dinner was about $25/person and found that to be higher than expected based on other buffets I've been to (granted it's been years since I went to one). The team was fast in seating us and bringing that drinks and were attentive to our needs. The food was good overall, nothing spectacular though. I'd recommend doing hibachi. For dessert I love ice cream so I went over to the soup section to grab a big bowl. The decor was standard, perhaps a little dated now but fit in with a buffet vibe. read more

It pains me to write this review because the employees were so nice and friendly here, so I will keep it as short as I can. However, I hope they will take reviews like this one in stride and use it as motivation to make changes and improvements. Honestly, based on the reviews, we had expectations that the food would be decent, but, unfortunately, it didn't come close to meeting those expectations. The buffet left a lot...I mean, A LOT, to be desired. So did the restaurant décor. The food selection wasn't good. If you love greasy though, then maybe you will love it here. Many of your "inexpensive" common buffet foods can be found here though - noodles, fried rice, chicken/beef dishes mixed with vegetables, fried/baked/steamed seafood, sushi, desserts. Now, one might assume, what's wrong with all of that? Well, the food quality was very questionable and so were the flavors. We actually didn't eat any of the sushi because we questioned how safe it was. Sometimes, you can easily sum up an experience as "not good" and this was one of them. The ONE ... ONE bright spot with the food was the hibachi station. We loved that you could add as much as whatever you wanted from the station onto your plate - chicken, beef, shrimp, eggs, vegetables, noodles - and the chef would cook it right up. Also, there were 3 sauce flavors you could add to it too. We wanted to love Grand Buffet, but from the moment we walked in, there wasn't a good feeling in either of us. As for pricing, as of May 2023, it ranges from $14.99 - $22.99 depending on the day of the week and time of the day. In addition, they also allow customers to carry out food, which is charged by the pound. I could have said a lot more, but I'll keep that to myself. This place has a very friendly and attentive hospital staff. The selection of food is extensive and it's great for large groups. If there is one thing I'd like to suggest the establishment improves is the waiting area. When the place is packed - which is more often than not, the parties waiting spill over onto the sidewalk because there is no room in the waiting area or the foyer. This can be problematic in the colder months. Otherwise the food is delicious and when you're with a large group and no one can decide where to go or there are different preferences on what to eat, this is the answer. read more

For restaurants such as this to survive as the #1 thing they need is good food and volume of customers. They are now functioning with an extensive menu of buffet items but The Grand Buffet has gone straight downhill in these times of inflation. Their prices are much higher and the lack of consistency of food quality makes dining there any more like playing Russian Roulette. They added Lobster a while back and at first it was pretty fair but the last couple of times I was there it tasted like they were often buying long dead and rancid smelling lobster just to get a very low price for the suppliers garbage. That practice is likely illegal and definitely dangerous to one's health. Their duck is a similar story in that it degrades in taste and texture after sitting out too long. What seals the deal for me to never dine there again is that the management can be downright nasty if you try to talk to them. Going there is some distance for us and at times I have called to confirm that they have the items we like best. On several occasions I've spoken to one of the owner family to ask and been told... yes we have lobster or crabs or duck only to find that they were flat out lying and when politely questioned they answer... NO DELIVERY TODAY in a very nasty tone. I used to like it there but I will not tolerate the nastiness, lying deception and sharply declining quality. I give it zero stars..!!! read more

I went to Grand Buffet in Ramsey, NJ tonight by myself. I was seated right away at a booth, which was great--but that's where the positives mostly ended. I asked for water and the server seemed annoyed, which set the tone. The place was packed. Tables were way too close together, making it extremely uncomfortable to move around. Getting to the buffet was a challenge--crowded, chaotic, people cutting each other off. Definitely not a relaxing experience. The food itself was decent with a fair variety, but if you're going to charge $26 for an all-you-can-eat dinner, you need a bigger buffet area and more space overall. CONSISTENT! The food is always FRESH and very well flavored, the chef should be commended for not overpowering the ingredients with heavy sauce or seasonings! Quality is very good, a par above in quality over other buffets I've visited before. We live further from here now but we put on the miles for special occasions and it doesn't disappoint! We were in the area and wanted something to eat but couldn't decide so thought a buffet would be the best option since there are many selections. The prices are GREAT! ($14 on weekday afternoon, drinks are not included $1.99, free refills for fountain soda but not for cans) Although I feel like they don't exactly have a wide selection of food compared to others but for the price they charge I think the selections are sufficient. They have a hibachi station where u can customize your own noodles or rice. There are 2 (I guess sort of 2.5) stations of hot foods, 1 station that holds salad on 1 side and desserts on the other, 1 sushi station. I liked majority of the food, not so much the noodles though. I didnt try any of the desserts. At first I thought they didnt have labels for the food, but they do, its at the top on the glass. Staff were very nice. Place kept clean. Overall it was an enjoyable experience. Something I must add, for those who hate using bathrooms outside of their homes (because most bathrooms are gross), the bathrooms here are clean! Safe to use! From a value to quality proposition, this place is a solid 5 stars without any shred of doubt. In terms of what you pay for, especially at lunch ($13-$14 per adult, and $4-5 per kid), it's a no brainer that the lunch option is a great deal especially when you think of how much a single entree or combo meal at any Chinese takeout joint would cost you normally. From a quality standpoint, after eating here a few times in the past month, I've found the food to be steadily consistent. There's been no issue in terms of quality issues in terms of temperature, taste, freshness from my experience. Also not only is the food generally good, but the flavor is also just right IMO. Most of the food isn't overly salty or greasy versus other Chinese buffets. Even though the spread here isn't nearby as huge as other joints in Bergen County, I actually prefer it this way. Less options that taste better than a giant spread that's mediocre or greasy, I'd much prefer the first, which is what they offer here. Even the hibachi grill options aren't as overly seasoned as what I've encountered elsewhere. Another element that I like about this place is the generally pleasant service as well as how much cleaner this place is versus other similar buffets. Even the bathrooms are reasonably clean. In short, if you're talking about cost + quality + cleanliness, this place is very well rounded. And no, contrary to some of the other more dramatic reviews on this page, McDonald's isn't nearly as good as this place. If you think a trip to Mickey D's is better than this place, you should really reevaluate your palate. read more

Not perfect, but perhaps the best Asian buffet in NJ. Chean, but occasionally the hallways and restroom is used for supply storage. Choice of foods is excellent. You can always find some good options. Quality protein unlike many buffets overloaded with cheap fillers. Never been rushed to leave. You can sit and talk as long as you like. A great meet up place. Staff and service can be hit and miss; perhaps a cultural and language issue as much as anything else; but it's a buffet, you largely serve yourself anyway, and the buffet itself is well maintained. I always stop when passing through, a convenient location right on Rt 17 between the Thruway exit and the Parkway entrance. It's on the higher end of price as Asian Buffets go, but it's in an expensive neighborhood, and the food is heavily higher cost items. Overall, a very good value. read more

A few weeks ago I went there with my mother in law and while I was eating there chicken and broccoli I found a maggot in the broccoli.

This was my grandmas favorite and it will always hold a big place in my heart. As it is an all you can eat, obviously it is not the best quality of food, but many things are pretty good and there are a few gems. The service has always been great for us as we go a lot. 15 of us stopped by this buffet on our way home from our ski trip and the staff was nice enough to accommodate our group and put us all sitting together. The waitress was very friendly and attentive. Love the variety food selections there: Japanese sushi, salad, Chinese soups, traditional Chinese dishes, fried chicken wings, pizza, dumplings, seafoods, etc. With an weekend adult price of $22.99, $15.99 for kids between age 6 and 11 and $6.99 for kids between age 2 and 5, we got lobsters and endless shrimps in this buffet! Never expected to have lobsters when paying this price in a buffet. The desserts were good as well. The only disappointment was the hibachi noodle. It allowed me to select the add-ons as well as the type of noodles, sauce I want in the hibachi section and the chef would make it in front of me. The hibachi noodle was tasteless even though I saw him put on soy sauce on it (maybe it was not enough?). The restaurant was a bit crowded and not much space between tables. Some of the utensils were sticky and had clearly oil marks on them. Waiting area was very small and it could get very crowded on weekend. Grand Buffet is a steal at $14.99 for weekend lunch. I think $13.99 for weekday lunch but don't quote me on it. The selection is like any standard buffet - basically lots of chinese fast food plus sushi. I really like their hibachi station, fresh sweet fruit and soft serve ice cream machine. Not all buffets have those things! Kind waiters/waitresses too. Ordered takeout here during COVID. And this place still has the best chinese food in the area hands down. For takeout they give enormous portions with good prices. I got chicken on a stick, creamed shrimp which is my fav, lo mien, ribs, hunan chicken and string beans, fried dumplings and egg rolls. Plus egg drop soup. Found this buffet to not be on par with other local venues. I only visit when it's a busy time but despite a good crowd the food was cold unless you were lucky to see replenishment. Perhaps the heating elements were not on under the pans? It was lacking fried shrimp and a variety of basic Chinese dishes. Lo mein was filled with cabbage!
