We had a great experience are Benares. We had a hard time finding the restaurant in the shopping center but we're able to find parking easily and didn't have to wait to be seated. The restaurant has a beautiful ambiance and very friendly staff. The meal was delicious, plastic free and vegan. Those may have been the best buffalo cauliflower that I've ever had. We are looking forward to going back again for more.

Benares landed in my radar screen after I enjoyed a fantastic dinner as part of a Yelp Elite Event. I decided to come back with my peeps for dinner hoping it was everything and more on a typical dinner night. Well it absolutely was!!! We started with pani puri shots which excited me because my peeps - who are big fans of Indian food - had never had them. They loved them, as did I. For dinner we had to try a wide selection of things. We had the Chicken saag (spinach sauce) , Andhra Chicken Curry, chicken tikka masala (Grlled boneless chicken simmered in fenugreek flavored plum tomato sauce), Kekda Kari (Traditional Nadan Kerala style jumbo lump crab curry, simmered in mustard and curry leaves), vegetable biryani (rice and seasoned vegetables in a tandoor pot with a dough cover, cucumber raita, and a bread basket of various flavors of naan. Every single thing was AMAZING. The chicken and crab curries were new to us all and so delicious. All of us had a cup of masala chai. I wanted lassi but I was so full by then I couldn't! This is by far one of the best Indian restaurants around. And it's worth noting that while often I find that the Indian restaurants are skimpy with the amount of protein they put in their dishes,Benares was not at all skimpy. The portions are very generous. This will be our go to for Indian from now on.

Absolutely amazing! Came here on a Wednesday night and the place was already very busy so I'm glad we got there just in time. We brought a bottle of wine and my friend and I settled night for a girls night of delicious food! I was so happy to see so many vegan and vegetarian choices! I didn't know where to look first. We started with samosa and it was amazing light and flaky not greasy at all. I had a veggie korma dish that was delectable. The naan bread was not greasy whatsoever ! My friend got a chicken dish and she said it was delicious. I already told my boyfriend he and I need to go ! If you love Indian food you must try this gem!

11/21/23 An old article from Boozy Burb about the opening of Benares came up in my hubby's inbox. Since we love Indian food we had to try it. We had a delicious meal! Service was spot on, they answered our questions and helped with selection. Fresh Lime Soda - refreshing drink Mango Lassi - a bit too thick for me but hubby loved it Tawa Scallops - delicious! my only comment, the scallops were frozen not fresh, but the spices were amazing Garlic Naan - not as garlicky as i like but still good, especially dipped in the sauces Goan Curry Shrimp - so good! the creamy sauce was different from what i usually order Laal Maans - hubby love lamb and goat, but hate the bones. This dish is boneless lamb. He loved it! I'm not a lamb fan, but the sauce was delicious. Will definitely come back when in the area.

Our second time here with parents! It's one of our best places when we are in the mood of eating authentic Indian food. Appetizers: -Banarasi kachori ( bite sized , crispy and perfectly crunchy) -eggplant chaat ( yummm this one is a must have!) -Smoky chicken ( unanimously everyone's fav, so tender and cooked to perfection) Mains: -paneer shaahi ( unexpectedly the best one out of all the other entrees) - daal makhni ( perfect taste, felt too thick which made it a bit dry) -rogan josh ( spices were very well marinated) Dessert: -rasmalai ( 3 small pieces in a big giant bowl, nevertheless delicious!!) -atom bomb ( chocolate cake with rose ice cream - generous quantity and perfect way to end the meal) For sure we will be back here soon and try new things. The place has a quiet and warm vibe to it and the staff is super nice. Must try!!!!!

So I was invited to give this restaurant a try. When I arrived I parked in the plaza lot. Walked in and was greeted and sat. The restaurant was very nice. My friend and I were served by a great group of servers and managers. We had a variety of food, but the shrimp and pepper chicken were the best! I enjoyed all the flavors and variety. This restaurant is byob. I truly enjoyed my time and my meal!

This is the best Indian restaurant in Bergen county for sure! We come here often and try different items. This time we tried Mathura aloo tikki and omg it's so amazing!!!! Definitely transported us back to India. Beetroot soup is quite comforting too - I loved the fennel seed flavor. We ordered spicy mutter paneer and loved it. Most of their paneer sabzi are great! It very much reminded of paneer sabzi from India. The service is pretty prompt and quick. The ambience is quite warm. Usually not a lot of wait time at this place.

Thankfully my friend noticed they were BYOB and brought wine as I completely missed that on their menu. It was pretty calm for a Sunday night and we were there for awhile. The bruschetta and bread that was brought out was honestly not my favorite we didn't really eat it. We started with their fried calamari with cherry peppers which was delicious and ended up bringing half of it home. We actually both ordered their PAGLIA e FIENO which was absolutely delicious. The cream sauce was wonderful and there was a decent portion of seafood in each dish. For dessert we ordered the creme brûlée and strawberries Zabaglione. The creme brûlée was good something you normally would get. The strawberries Zabaglione was perfect and refreshing with fresh strawberries with a nice thinner consistency custard on top. Our server Elise was wonderful as we were catching up with each other and very slow to order. The inside was very clean with a modern decoration. Parking is street parking which was easier enough to find on a Sunday evening. The only thing I was surprised for a byob Italian spot was some of their pricing was a bit steep for the place itself.

For 30 years straight, the fish came from one place only: Peter's Seafood in Midland Park. But tonight, what's on my mind isn't Yelp or fish markets. It's my neighbor Pete. He was my best friend here -- a guy who could spin stories about New York in the 1950s like he was giving you a private tour. Sometimes he'd get a "Woolley" (that's Italian for craving) for lobster or clams. I'd drive north to Peter's, haul it back to Monroe, and we'd make a night of it: good food, better conversation. Pete passed away this weekend. I know it comes with the territory of living in a senior village -- neighbors will pass on. We started with a spread of appetizers that set the bar high: the Stuffed Figs and Meatball specials were standout hits, and you can't go wrong with their perfectly crisp Caesar Salad or the Escargot Scampi in that delicious puff pastry. For the main course, the Filet Mignon Oscar and Veal Imperial specials were prepared to perfection - decadent and incredibly fresh. The Cacio e Pepe was authentic and flavorful, and the Capellini special was light, but OH SO satisfying. We stopped in mid-week for a family dinner after work and even on a Wednesday the place was buzzing. The restaurant itself is pretty tiny, which makes for a cozy atmosphere but also means tables are very close together. If you can, I'd definitely recommend making a reservation. The menu is somewhat minimal, but the food overall was good. I eat gluten-free and noticed the options were a bit limited, which made ordering slightly challenging. I ended up going with the sea scallops. They were nicely cooked, but the portion was smaller than I expected--five small scallops with some vegetables. For the price, I do wish the portion had been a bit more generous. I have to admit I left still a little hungry. My dad ordered the short rib grilled cheese and really enjoyed it. That was probably the standout dish at our table. My sister ordered the honey bourbon chicken and said it was okay, but afterward she mentioned she probably should have gone with the short rib grilled cheese instead. One surprise of the night was live music on a Wednesday. I usually enjoy live music, but since we were hoping to catch up as a family it made conversation a little difficult. The music was fairly loud for such a small space. Service was friendly and attentive throughout the meal. They also have a rewards program, which worked out nicely--my dad received a complimentary dessert for his birthday. I ordered the crème brûlée, which was a great way to end the meal. A couple practical tips: parking in Ridgewood can be tricky. The restaurant advertises valet parking, though we didn't use or see it during our visit. If you find street parking, make sure to feed the meter because the town is known for giving out tickets. In warmer months they do offer some outdoor sidewalk seating, though it looks fairly limited. It also appears they have a happy hour, though we didn't arrive in time to try it. Overall, I'd recommend checking out Steel Wheel Tavern--just be mindful of the timing of your visit, especially if you're hoping for a quieter dinner.

Even my toddler enjoyed it and she doesn't usually like meat but ate a few chunks of the chicken -Grilled Halloumi (with fig jam) - this was a little oily and very salty. I did like the fig jam with it but $17.95 for a chunk of cheese is pretty pricey -Gyro Combo Platter (pork, chicken, and lamb gyro served with fries, pita, tomatoes, onions, and tzatziki) - I missed where the menu said it's served with tzatziki because then I probably wouldn't have ordered the assortment of spreads. The pork was chewy, and the chicken was dry, but the lamb was good. They did have a nice flavor though. Again, my daughter who doesn't like meat even ate some of the chicken and the lamb. I probably wouldn't go out of my way to come back here, especially since there were really only two things we really liked. But if you do visit, I'd recommend just getting the lamb gyro. Tip - BYOB
