Our Fam @ Downtown Dhaba

THE FOOD ---------------- + FANTASTIC weekend Indian buffet and everything, I mean, EVERYTHING, was delicious! + Great variety to choose from (approximately 13 different dishes, including dessert) with a good mix of vegetarian and meat entrees. + Buffet includes Tamarind Eggplant, Onion Pakora, Basmati Rice, Naan, Chicken Biryani, Dal Tadka, Soya Chap Dai, Cabbage Poriyal, Fish Curry, Goat Curry, Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori Chicken, Chili Chicken, Rice Kheer, Gulab Jamon. + Favorites included the Onion Pakora, Chicken Biryani, Soya Chap Dai, Cabbage Poriyal, Goat Curry, Chicken Tikka Masala, Tandoori Chicken. (Honestly, I could have listed just about ALLL of the hot foods!) - Surprisingly was missing a Paneer dish, which is typically common at Indian buffets. - Beware, the Fish Curry definitely has a kick. - The Gulab Jamon was on the "spongy" side in that it was too soft and, as typically is, too sugary. - Rice Kheer was a bit too "fragrant" for our liking. THE SERVICE ------------------ + Employees were cordial. + Solid service throughout our meal as finished plates were cleared quickly. + Can pay the bill online via a QR code. THE SURROUNDINGS ------------------------------- + Interior is separated into 2 rooms, with a main dining room to the right of the entrance and a smaller dining area to the left where the buffet is. + Clean interior. + Private parking lot with plenty of spaces outside, but you have to pay the meter, even on Sundays. RANDOM OBSERVATIONS ------------------------------------- = Came for the Sunday buffet and arrived exactly at opening at 12 PM. Dined for about 1.5 hours and it was busy throughout, but there were always a few tables open. There was a large group dining together in the main dining room, so that was probably the reason why less tables were available than usual.

Chicken Tikka Masala & Garlic Naan

I ordered food to go and everything was AMAZING! I ordered the Samosas, Garlic Naan, and Chicken Tikka. Samoas were large and filled with so much potato! They also came with two sauces: one green and one brown (not sure exactly what they were) but omg, SO TASTY. TIP: Put both sauces on the samosa and thank me later! Chicken tikka was perfect - good amount of tender chicken and so much sauce to dip the garlic naan in. This dish also came with white rice. The portion size is enough to feed two people with an appetizer! Food came quickly and was very fresh. Passing by the restaurant, it looks super clean and elegant. Will be ordering again and definitely will need to have the dine-in experience.

We returned after a long time for the weekend buffet. It wasn't that busy, got table right away. The buffet menu had all the show stopper dishes today, with biryani, korma, bhindi masala, chicken tikka masala, tandoori chicken, fish curry, chicken 65 all in the line up. Loved the chicken biryani. It tasted so good with fluffy rice, tamarind mix with such soft chicken. Bhindi (orka) masala is always my favorite. Tandoori chicken and chicken 65 were excellent too. The service was good. Our plates were taken out of the table regularly. They constantly kept an eye on all dishes to make sure they are not empty or stale.

Lamb Bhuna Gosht and Chicken Korma

Downtown Dhaba is the go to local Indian restaurant for us. We're always able to get in on weekends without a reservation but if you have a party over 4 people I suggest calling ahead. The restaurant has about twenty tables with plenty of space between each one. The employees are always friendly and always offer assistance if help is needed if your new to ordering indiain food. I've tried most of the curry's and haven't ordered one I didn't like. This time we ordered the chicken korma and lamb bhuna gosht with the must order garlic naan. As a plus it's a BYOB so bring your favorite wine to pair.

I came here today with the buddy who lives a few towns away and we were craving Indian food so we decided to come here because he has been here. Very clean atmosphere inside and friendly service. I got the chicken tikka masala with a side of garlic naan (and white rice) and it was a great portion. The chicken was very tender and delicious.

Weekend lunch is usually buffet style. Love the food options, chicken, fish, goat etc. They also have salad and dessert. It's not a big buffet options but it's good for me. Staff is very nice and quick service. Very nice set up inside. Many tables and spacious.

tamarind eggplant

This is one of the best Indian restaurants in Bergen county! The food is consistently delicious. My favorite is the appetizer tamarind eggplant. It is vegetarian with eggplant and chickpeas. It has a little bit of spicy and is so creamy. For entree I normally get the tikka with shrimp or lamb. I always ask for it spicy because I like the heat! Their naan is a must! I love to dip it in the sauce. Portion sizes are large and I always have left overs. Service is good, they don't rush you. BYOB which is a plus!

Food is great, always freshly made. I wish they were closer to my location. But then again, maybe not, as I would be too addicted.

Warning: new ownership or chef. The food is very different from what we've enjoyed for years. Sadly, we don't plan to return.

Ask the Community - Downtown Dhaba

How much is their lunch buffet and is it everyday or only weekdays?

Only weekends, $17+tax per adult

Are there gluten free and dairy free options?

There are both.

When is the buffet offered?

Starts at noon every day.

Do you offer weekend buffet in your new location? If so, what is the cost and hours on Sunday?

Yes we do offer weekend grand lunch buffet. It’s $13.99 on Sundays from noon to 2:30 pm.

Where are you? I can't find your new address in Westwood. Looking to return - love your food. There doesn't seem to be any building at 266 Center Ave. What are you next to?

Hello!! We will open in 10 days from now. We will be located right opposite Starbucks.( we are taking over the right side of “kitchen” restaurant) Please Like our Facebook…

Is the lunch buffet dine in or take away?

I've done dine in twice, they have asked me if I want to take leftovers with me. I guess you could do take away but I don't think you would be able to take doubles, like you can when you done in.

Is this place BYOB?

Yes!

The weekend buffet, is the price the same for children, as well?

It will be half price for children under 12 years!

Is a buffet dinner offered during the week and if so, how much?

I believe the buffet is lunchtime but you should call!

Is there price really a lot of money or not?

It may be a dollar more per dish than some other Indian places, but you get what you pay for. IMO, Dhaba is noticeably higher quality food.

Is this place BYOB since there is no bar?

It is byob!

Does anyone know when they have their lunch buffet?

Starts at noon every day. $11.99 during the week and $13.99 on the weekend. Food was excellent

Does this place serve halal food?

Yes!

Veda 10 Jay St…read more Tenafly, NJ 07670 Papadum Basket Chicken Tikka Masala Garlic Naan This contemporary Indian restaurant is located in the heart of Tenafly, NJ. A supervisor from my job recommended this location and he was right on point. The interior had a nice ambiance and the dining tables had a uniform set up with attractive tablecloths. It was a relief that a spoon was automatically included with the silverware; most restaurants only provide a fork & knife. Papadum Basket: This complimentary appetizer was an excellent start to the meal. The sabudana papad is a bubble wafer with an appearance identical to styrofoam. The traditional papadum is a flat lentil base crisp that kind of reminds me of a flattened looseleaf. Although the shapes of these wafers have different appearance, their taste is superior. They both have a light, crispy texture. A side of spiced tomato chutney compliments the snack. Because the starter tasted this good, I easily predicted the main course was going to be a home run. Chicken Tikka Masala: Chicken is diced into square cubes and smothered in creamy tomato sauce. The sauce was hot & creamy and the chicken was tender. It is one of the most popular dishes in the restaurant. Also included is a side of basmati rice. While I was eating, I ran out and the server gave me another portion. There was no up charge for the second helping. Do not confuse this plate with their "butter chicken" entrée. Although chicken tikka masala is also referred to as butter chicken, the two entrees on this restaurant are not identical. Butter chicken is served in slices and the sauce is different. I asked a server about the difference between the two plates; he told me he was a new hire and did not know the answer. I truly appreciated his honesty and was grateful he got another waiter to assist me instead of trying to answer it without the proper knowledge. Garlic Naan: The naan is the perfect side dish to order with the chicken. It is great for dipping into the sauce. It still tastes excellent on its own because of its soft texture. The up charge is the same whether you order original or garlic flavor. As a bonus, this Indian restaurant is BYOB. If you did not bring any wine or malt liquor, two wine & spirit shops are located footsteps away on Washington St. and Tenafly Rd. This was a perfect dining experience, from the ambiance of the restaurant to the entire meal. The servers were very efficient and it's definitely a great location for family gatherings, date night, or any other event. #veda #contemporaryindiancuisine #chickentikkamasala #vedatenaflynj

Most of the dishes had some sort of spice, very limited non spicy options. They pre make the base sauce so the spice level is not adjustable. We ordered a lot of the dishes from the menu starting with corn chaat and samosa. Corn chaat didn't really have corn, it was more like corn flakes with tomatoes and onions. The dish was blend, it needed some dressing sauce or yogurt on top to make it tastier. Samosa had good potato fillings, came with green and tamarind chutneys. For entree we got the chicken tikka masala, chicken korma with rice, naan and garlic naan with Amul cheese. Tikka masala was super delicious, thick spicy sauce. I was so glad to see chicken was moist not dry. Korma was a good too. The rice was cooked with jeera, had wonderful aroma. Both naan were excellent, loved the Amul one especially, it was so cheesy. We had the brownie ice cream for dessert, was a yummy one too. The mango lassi was also good, was on the thicker side. All our dishes came out so quickly, almost seemed like they had everything ready to go in the kitchen. It's semi self-served, plastic forks, spoon, knives and plates are next to the register. They serve the dishes in to go boxes, so very easy to pack any leftovers, just need the lids. Overall we loved the food and the atmosphere. Glad to see a good Indian restaurant establishing itself in the area.

Not bad but very mediocre…read more Just lacking in depth of flavor and complexity.... Sadly there are premade mixes that can be bought in stores in the area that have more taste. People were nice, place has nice decor, but all the sauces, and curries just taste a bit shallow and one dimensional.... What a unexpected hidden gem in town! INDIAN in OLD TAPPAN?!?…read moreI was very happy to see them on the way home from work one day and they had nice, dark interior that was very inviting. I took out a butter chicken ($19, Entree, 5/5) and it was sublime. That prompted me to order lunch special another day for my office and while it was slightly pricey, they allow you to choose different types of curry (can choose a mild curry or hot curry like vindaloo), protein, and they give you the almond milk(?) dessert. Tandoori Chicken ($19, Entree, 5/5) - I had a colleague who's NEVER had Indian food before, and he swore to his stomach that this was AMAZING. I had to agree - chicken was super moist, fragrant seasoning deeply penetrating yet not overly salty or spicy, and not greasy at all. I have to say it's one of the BEST Tandoori chicken I've had, and I had many. I do think the quantity is slightly lacking for the price, but their quality is definitely there. We need to support hidden gems like these that aim to create AUTHENTIC food that is true to its roots - so please go try them out ya'll and thank me later!
