The Spinach Soup was a great opener--smooth, well-seasoned, and full of bright, comforting flavor. Shrimp Balchao was the highlight. Sautéed with ginger, garlic, and tamarind, it delivered a perfect mix of heat, tang, and richness. Bold, aromatic, and deeply satisfying. The Garlic Naan came out fresh from the tandoor--soft, lightly charred, and packed with garlic. Ideal for soaking up all the sauces. Mutter Paneer, with tender paneer and green peas in a spiced masala, was creamy and fragrant without feeling too heavy. A classic dish executed really well. Nani's Chicken Curry featured tender chicken simmered in a flavorful blend of spices and onions, with rich, layered flavors that built with each bite. First time in this place. When you enter here, you are received very kindly. The atmosphere is very quiet. There's not much noise. The decoration is very nice and cozy. The colors are balanced and nice!!! 3 waiters attended me . The cashier was also attentive to what I needed. Entree snack: SPINACH SOUP, which was delicious and some small toasts green and yellow and an orange dressing with a slightly sweet flavor; I did CHICKEN BIRYANI (medium spicy; you can choose more spicy). It came with yogurt on the side and a regular Coca-Cola. The waiters were very fast to deliver my food, and they were always attentive to when I asked for the bill and a bag to take the rest of my food home. The total of the account with taxes was $23.46 dlls( Consider that two people can eat with this dish )and you can put the tip you want. The place was hyper clean and very well arranged. Bring back the buffet! I've been here multiple times, pre-covid they had a great buffet lunch which we loved, now it's a la carte. The food is excellent, and when you ask for it to be spicy, it is (is you REALLY like SPICY ask for real Indian level spicy...). The chef is extra nice, and very experienced, and it you can taste the difference in every dish I ever had there. The service is great, prices are a bit high for the location, which is, together with the no lunch buffet or special, is the reason for 4 and not 5 stars - but it really is an excellent place for great quality Indian food. read more

This is my fourth time dining at Veda and I'm happy to say that each time gets better and better! Veda focuses on serving classic Indian cuisine with a contemporary interpretation. I've tried a variety of dishes and nothing disappoints. Every dish is presented well, rich in flavor, and authentic. The menu has options for both meat lovers and vegetarians. To those who have a lower spice tolerance, no need to worry; there are dishes that range from not spicy at all to very mild spice. The service is excellent. The servers are always welcoming, attentive, and more than happy to help with any menu recommendations. Pricing wise, it is on the higher end for some items and I will admit the meat portions could definitely be better. However, it's worth a try because the food tastes amazing. They also offer a complimentary soup of the day. Here are some of my favorite dishes... *Stuffed Naan with spinach and goat cheese $6 - Come on, you can't go wrong with ordering naan (leavened flatbread). Theirs is soft, fluffy, and pairs well with their fresh sauces. *Samosas $8 - A must try appetizer! It's a fried pastry dough stuffed with spiced potatoes and peas fried golden brown. *Tokree Ki Chaat $14 - This is basically like a "salad" of chickpeas, avocado, potatoes, raw mangoes, and crisps tossed in a spicy sauce. Very refreshing with a spicy kick! *Hyderabadi Angare $16 - Crispy chicken tossed with spiced yogurt, mustard seeds, and curry leaves... delicious! The chicken is super tender. *Chicken Tikka Masala $25 - I know this is a ~bAsiC~ Indian classic, but they do it justice. It's a curried dish made with boneless chicken cubes, ground spices, onions, tomatoes, cream, and herbs. *Rosemary Chicken Malai Tikka $25 - This dish includes boneless chicken marinated with yogurt, cardamom, cream cheese, ginger, and garlic. The seasoning is a match made in heaven, I telllllllllllll you. *Gulab Jamun $6 - This is my FAVORITE dessert. It's milk pastry balls doused in a rose and honey syrup. I recommend to those who have a big sweet tooth. *Malai Ki Kheer $8 - Lychee and rice pudding with sliced nuts and raisins... This is SO GOOD. I have to say once again how exceptional Veda is. Every dish, from the obligatory chicken tikka masala to the ethereal Delhi ki kachori, is a cut above what you'd receive at almost any other Indian restaurant in the New York area. I've been to Delhi, Mumbai, and Bengaluru. I've eaten many times alongside Indians here and in India - eaten what they liked, eaten what they ordered. I'm not Indian, but I know what Indian food is supposed to taste like. And this is as close as you're going to get around here. The service is attentive, and the prices are plenty reasonable. Dinners start with a nice little amuse-bouche. If you want an Indian spice level, just ask. Sure it'll be aggressive, but not overpowering. In short, just right - and that's Veda, too. read more

It's possible that our order was a fluke compared to previous reviews, but my brother and I had a terrible experience with our take out order of Chicken Tikka Masala, Saag Paneer, and garlic naan. The consistency of Chicken Tikka Masala was more watery than creamy, and the taste average for a rating of three stars. Saag Paneer was a sad paneer deserving of one star. It was not only salty, but also too peppery(?). There was an overload of spices, and they did not mesh well. Garlic naan was nothing special with most of the edges burnt. Two stars. Another disappointment was the portion sizes, although in this case it worked out that there was less food because we barely got through what we had due to the flavor issues. One positive is the exterior, which is brightly lit with string lights, but overall, Veda was lackluster and we will not be returning anytime soon. read more

As soon as you walk in, the warm ambience fills you in. The server greeted us with warm tomato soup which was much like tomato rasam but nonetheless well made. We had two kids with us on the table and they (after checking with us) got some baked chips for the kids. That was very sweet of them as it kept the kids busy :) We ordered their Zucchini pakora and makkai chat for appetizers. Both were really good, especially the pakora. For main course we ordered the Paneer Makhni and Mushroom Methi Malai which weren't as good as the appetizers. Rather they weren't for the real indian palette. Less masala and spice in both. For desserts, we got the gulab jamun, mango rasmalai and paan icecream ..and all of them were in good quantity and quite good. Order list: - chicken kebabs, the tamarind sauce complimented them so well. - bhopali chicken and daal makhni alongwith naan, parantha and tandoori rotis. The chicken was spicy, as we requested and the chicken was perfectly cooked. The daal makhni had the authentic flavour which is very rare to find in Indian restaurants in Jersey. - Kheer was full of blueberries and blackberries, lots of nuts and was accompanied with raspberry sauce which elevated the taste from the traditional kheer. The server was super friendly and was more than happy to help us when we asked for suggestions. Overall enjoyed our impromptu dinner here and definitely coming back to try more items on the menu. Incredible Indian food and I am very picky with my own type of food. First off the service here is beyond great, very welcoming. We ordered the Nani's chicken and paneer makhani which were so flavorful. We also ordered garlic naan which tasted home made, not chewy at all, like most places. We really enjoyed a lovely Diwali lunch. For desserts we had the Kheer and gulab jamun, both very yummy. Portions are huge so would recommend sharing. I will definitely be back. read more

Yes! Veda was not only delicious and used quality ingredients (i.e. white meat chicken, fresh green sauce etc...), they were willing to accommodate their dishes to be gluten free & dairy free!!!!!! The person I spoke to on the phone was incredibly patient and accommodating, and I managed to get my usual dishes -- chicken saag and chicken tikka masala - as gluten free and dairy free versions. Added in the channa masala, which is already gluten and dairy free, which admittedly wasn't as flavorful as the other two. We also ordered garlic naan and samosas (not GF). The garlic naan was good. The samosas were the best we've had, but good nonetheless. I always appreciate when take out includes the little green and brown sauces, and in this case I'm so glad they did -- they were by far the freshest and most flavorful ones I had. They were also willing to delivery to our area, which I didn't realize until later is out of their usual delivery zone. I DEFINITELY plan to order from here again! Today was my sisters bday and she wanted Indian food so what better place to take her!! I want to begin with saying the service was excellent. The food was great. I was just very surprised at the portions! There use to be more than 1 little piece of salmon and I do mean Little, for $28!! That was not what I got the last time we were there! Boy have times changed!! All the portions were quite small evening my vegetable dish, only exception was the spinach. I felt like they were serving lunch portions but dinner prices!!! Veda is a new Indian restaurant to open at the former location of Kinara, one of my favorite Indian restaurants. It hasn't changed much. The decor is a bit nicer, and the service has noticeably improved. The plates are quickly taken and the drinks are kept filled. They still serve a buffet for lunch, and the prices aren't bad. The selection appears to have improved as well, with more sauces available on the side. The naan that comes with your meal is also extra buttery, therefore better than average. My favorite items on the buffet were the goat masala and tandoori chicken, but everything was pretty good. Definitely a spot I'd visit again read more

Unfortunately my favorite Indian restaurant, Kinara, has closed down. Fortunately Veda is as good if not better. The service seems to be quicker and more attentive but that may be because the place is relatively new. Nevertheless service was good. Decor is largely the same as when it was Kinara but perhaps slightly elevated. Again, we'll see if this keeps up as the restaurant is open for longer. As always, my family opted for the lunch buffet. The dishes were all flavorful and the servers made sure each one was kept full. My favorites are goat curry and saag/palak (not sure which one they had). I was a bit disappointed as the saag/palak was advertised as having paneer but I could not find any. The naan came out hot and fresh whenever we asked and I like that they served some kind of dish with chick peas and some crunchy stuff as an appetizer of sorts. The availability of several sauces is a plus as well. The absence of gulab jamun was notable but easily overlooked with the inclusion of creme brulee. I typically find gulab jamun to be excessively sweet anyway. I will absolutely be back. read more

Everything was delicious! And when I say everything, I'm almost not exaggerating! My sister and I were there a few weeks ago and decided that we would only order appetizers, so we ordered about 8-10 dishes (a little more than half) of the items on their very extensive appetizer menu. Everything from the pesto paneer tikka to the kokum crab was delicious. We went home with A LOT of leftovers, so got to relive the magic the next day:) We're pretty sure our waiter thought we were crazy at first, but he was very professional and helpful in assisting us in making choices. I think he enjoyed that we enjoyed the food so much! We had a little two-seater in the window and it was a lovely, fun, yummy experience. The layout of the space is absolutely gorgeous and so intimate, it really has the most welcoming feeling. The staff were all friendly and helpful in making sure everything I had was gluten-free. The menu size is perfect with a plethora of options for any dietary needs you may have. With an impressive selection of vegetarian options, I decided to try the navratna korma. I can't speak highly enough about our experience here. Our family went here for a new years eve dinner and everything from the decorations and celebratory hats to the service to the food was perfect! Wow! Really yummy food that'll make you smile and a very clean restaurant. And more like 4.5 stars. I had to take off a little because one of the staff was not masked :( We opted to dine in as we arrived at a very off hour, and there were barely any customers. There were already some tables reserved outside for other customers already despite it being very late for a lunch and too early for dinner. Most of the staff were masked. The restaurant itself was incredibly clean and the silverware actually sparkled. The music was also played at a respectful volume, so we could converse without having to raise our voices. They give you a complimentary soup of the day to start you off. Ours was a cauliflower soup and it was delicious! A very good start. My partner and I opted to share a chicken tikka masala and an order of cheese and garlic naan. The chicken tikka masala comes with a bowl of rice with veggies to eat it with. All the food (including the soup) was really yummy! It's all spiced, but not necessarily spicy. It was at a good level for us. The naan was chewy and delicious. I would say that we didn't feel that the cheese necessarily added too much extra to the naan, so next time we'll order the regular garlic naan to compare. We were actually pretty full with just sharing, so we ordered the gulab jamun to go for dessert. It was very tender, but a touch too sweet for our personal tastes. Service was attentive and our waters were refilled often. I liked that the overall vibe of the restaurant and staff was quiet and calm. Maybe it gets more lively at normal dining hours?
