Highly recommended by our friends, we stopped to try this place when we were in the area. Truly feels homemade, you feel very less oil/butter and can indulge guilt free, although as the name suggests, daal makhni and butter chicken can never been a healthier swap haha! Would definitely return and try more from the menu. The taste was great however, we felt the prices were on higher side given the quantity of the items. $70 bill with no appetizer and dessert and no leftovers! Revisited the restaurant and this time tried new items. Loved the chole bhature - I guess my new go to place for chole bhature now. The chole was quite homely in taste and bhature were so fluffy and light! The poori which comes along with Chana is pretty nice. They are soft and puffy, even after it got cold at the end the pooris were soft, not at all chewy. Tandoori gobhi paratha had the perfect tandoori flavor! The stuffing just lacked a bit of salt. They pair it with yogurt and pickle which again have such a homely flavor. Assorted pakoras were super crunchy. I just hope they keep up with the same taste and quality of food. read more

Really disappointing food. Ordered the Delhi wall butter chicken and basically they just put tandoori chicken into this gravy that tasted more like malai kofta rather than butter chicken gravy. Just by looking at the color of the sauce I knew the taste was going to suck. I asked for medium spicy and it tasted so bland. The butter naan tasted store bought too rather than fresh made on site. Avoid this place. You will find more authentic Indian food elsewhere! read more

Authentic Indian food as I've ever had and closest to my concept of good Indian food which is what I've enjoyed in London (so not 100% authentic but close). Service is slow but only because they take the time to prepare the meals. Otherwise, they respond promptly to any requests. Breads are made fresh from what I can tell and the ingredients used is fresh too. Sometimes the lamb dishes come out a little bit on the dry and tough side but that may be the nature of the meat. I've tried many dishes from there and I can't say that I've been disappointed but my favorites are lamb Rogan Josh, chicken/lamb Vindaloo, tandoori chicken, chicken Tika Marsala, and Baingan Bharta (a roasted and mashed eggplant dish; kind of like Baba Ganoush). Ambiance is simple but fitting and there is ample parking. Only drawback is that the restaurant is small. But take out works well and the food stays hot while transporting over reasonable distances. read more

But... service is ehhhh (perfect for takeout) food is only slightly expensive for their portions for the quality... and my most nitpicky review ever: They are incapable of making something really spicy. Have been several times over last 7 months, I beg, I plead, "please make it spicy". Freshest food by far. Authentic Indian cuisine and family owned, this hidden gem is one you do not want to miss. The curry goat was perfection and the naan bread is so fresh and delicious. The service was excellent and with care. It's so hard to find Indian food that is truly authentic and not for the masses. Tandoori Bites just recently opened. We had the buffet, which was a very good deal. On the buffet, they had several of their regular menu items, including a delicious and tender goat curry, chili chicken, lamb saag and several other specialities. The food had a kick, but was not killer spicy. The restaurant is family owned, in a spot that has had several prior Indian restaurants. This is a very good incarnation. With the excellent Adaraka in Suffern now closed, they are probably the best in the area. The staff is not perfect yet, but they are friendly, caring and learning. Give it a shot. Good food. My wife and I visited the restaurant, today, the 8th, for brunch and had Batura Chhole and Aaloo Paratha. Both were phenomenal and made exactly as they are made in rural Punjab in India. We both enjoyed the fares and were pleasantly surprised that they were made by the owner's wife in their kitchen in the back, as we waited at the table. I spoke to the owner and expressed our total satisfaction with the food. Will my wife and I go to the restaurant again? You bet we WILL. First impression is the lasting impression. We went for breakfast on snowy Saturday morning and were treated with amazing Indian breakfast including poori chole, poha , idli sambhar and masala tea . The food was homely, spice level was balanced and freshly cooked . Chole was a real treat - not too oily , garnished with fresh coriander . Overall good service and staff were cordial . Ok... First of all, it seems that Peshawri Grill is now 'The Tandoori Bites.' I was told it's completely new management and owner (Since End of April). This was my first time here, so the differently named menu was a bit confusing. Ordering take-out. Go to Tandoori Bites. The inside is a bit spare, so take-out may be the best bet. The man who took my order, on the phone, was friendly, and the woman who gave me my order was friendly, even letting me slide when I came up a dollar short in cash. Got the Vegetable Samosa, which were two to the order. They came plain, unadorned, but were very good. The pastry survived the ride home and remained crispy, and the potato filling was really good. The addition of a little Chana Masala would make them even better. Entrees were Baingan Bharta (Eggplant) and Dhamakedaar Daal Tadka (Yellow Lentils). The eggplant was fabulous! Asked for medium spice and got it. A few leaves of added cilantro really added to the taste. A great version of this dish! The lentils were outstanding! Chose yellow over black lentils and 'non-creamy' over creamy. I've usually found lentil dishes to be ok, but nothing special. This one is special! Also had one order of Garlic Naan, which was also good. A twenty minute car ride did it no favors though. I had also originally ordered a Masala Dosa, but, for some reason Dosas weren't available. There are the usual Indian desserts and drinks available, four different soups, Tandoor dishes, and a handful of South Indian choices. Four stars for only having been here once. Prices are reasonable, and there's a good chance for an extra star when more dishes are sampled. It would be nice if the dining area was a little more 'formal,' but I'm not going to quibble. Dishes expensive, portions on the smaller side, long wait on food, on a weeknight and inside was not busy at all. Attentive though to 3rd party delivery orders as we sat and watched them go out and people come in to pickup. That's a common scene nowadays, bumping some dining rooms orders to fulfill pickup/delivery orders when they get busy. So, know that often is why food gets delays to the dining room. Not worth going here after the experience. Add in, the simplest of requests also ignored by a waiter who seemed detached and preoccupied with his phone. Meat in dishes was scant and rice was hardly any, seeing they gave us "one" small bowl to share? When usually that's the same portion given for 1 persons dish to eat with and when 2 people dine, you get a larger bowl of rice, enough for 2 meals to be shared with. Wow on that too and on the table water carafe that was almost warm. Never again was how we left it, after they got our money for nothing worthy of it. PS: Thigh meat is fairly cheap (and much vs breast meat) but not cool you're charging upwards of 20 bucks for not even that much of it, so yea, no. read more

Recently moved to Mahwah and needed my fix of Indian food. There are a few other places in the town but none could satisfy my craving. For context I moved from a nearby city with a lot of Indian food options, and am a bit of an Indian food snob So, we did a party and asked for food to be catered. We ordered a tray each Chicken biryani Mateer paneer Chicken korma Daal makani AND EVERYONE LOVED IT!!!! Now usually when we do a catered party some folks take carry out boxes home, but this food, everyone took 2 or more containers .... I literally had nothing left for me. The very next day I went back and ordered the exact same dishes for myself and it is consistently good! I highly recommend this place (The owners and staff are super nice btw!!!)
