This place is entirely like being in West London. Nearly everybody in the restaurant is from the subcontinent, or has parents from there, which is a pretty good indicator of what your food is going to be like. Other huge green flags are the decor, there is none, the TV with Indian women singing, and the simple menu.
But the food. Back in London, I put on about 30 pounds living near a place called Southall, which was entirely due to the local restaurants there luring me in night after night, for a pallet jazzing cabaret of breads and spicy food. This is the same.
No holds barred, no sweetened sauces, nothing American about it. Proper bloody Indian. For the initiated, this food is the same as you get round your mates house in Hounslow when his granny has been in the kitchen. It's that kosher! For the adventurous, this is what it is supposed to taste like.
The Nadan chicken curry was seriously good. Bristling with red chillies and ginger, and full of meat, the sauce was a light, robustly spiced affair. I had to watch for bones, but that's the authentic bit coming in to play. With parotta bread, for rice will stuff you silly, it made my mouth a happy mouth.
If you like Indian food, make sure you go. It's a place where families dine, it doesn't seem to sell alcohol, and the people are properly nice, so leave any silly friends at home. read more
