We held a family lunch here for my son's first birthday, and it was perfect! The staff set us up with a private room in the back with a projector that we were able to run a slide show of moments from his first trip around the sun! The food was incredible. Chili Chicken, Tandoori Chicken, basamati rice, some Dal... I probably put on two pounds the food was so good. The food at Mantra + a good riesling = a perfect meal. I can't write about how great our experience was without mentioning the staff. They're all so personable and nice. When you speak to them, you feel like you've made new friends you just want to spend time with. The ambiance of Mantra is also great. Fellas, this is a great date spot if you want a nice place to take a lady. The place is really clean, has great decor, and even has a pianist on hand some nights! Wow this place is a hidden gem! Located on route 4 in Paramus, Mantra is such a classy chic Indian restaurant that has delicious food and a great vibe. Our drinks were amazing and the bar area is gorgeous-perfect for a date night. The restaurant is also chic and feels very upscale. The service was amazing and our waiter explained everything to us. The food was absolutely delicious!! We had some very unique dishes that were amazing. The Avocado Bhel appetizer really stood out-it has rice puffs mixed with avocado, onion, tomatoes, mint & date chutney. So unique and yummy! I always thought mantra was very expensive and high end restaurant and that wasn't the case . Amazing interiors with so many seats for customers. Very good experience all around and one of the best modern Indian restaurants I've been to outside of Manhattan. The ambiance is very contemporary and the place is extremely clean. We had the lunch buffet and the options were all delicious. Tandoori chicken, chicken tikka masala, fritters, etc everything was flavorful and delicious. The naan was also excellent. The spread had a decent amount of variety and everything was very tasty, albeit several of the options are generally on the spicy side. The service here was also excellent and very friendly/attentive. All around it's a great experience for people who are looking for an above average Indian food experience that isn't in a hole in the wall kind of location. The price for the lunch buffet was also very reasonable given the quality of the overall food. It's a pretty decent weekend Indian Buffet, reasonable price for the quality and they offer a couple of desserts which are always great. My issue? The service overall. Being there a couple of times, they are aloof in general and when I ask for a coke with semi-spicy meal. They bring this tiny glass with coke and heavy ice with a spicy meal. Last time I go, I ask for a bigger glass of coke, the dude argues with me saying it is the same size. Like the establishment and weekend buffet, but this was a customer service issue on a basic request. Fix it management. read more

Mantra is a great option for quality Indian food. The ambiance is modern and sophisticated. The staff is very friendly, they frequently check in and refill water/ drinks. I came here for the weekend buffet ($20PP) There were a variety of great food selection: chicken tikka masala, chicken tandoori, palak paneer, and pakora to name a few. Decided to check this place out for a friend's birthday dinner! At first glance, the interior was nice and displayed an elegant atmosphere. We ordered cocktails to cheer - the gin drink was a bit too sweet, but the pomegranate cosmopolitan tasted amazing! Drinks took a bit longer to come to our table, but we were able to munch on some appetizers such as samosas, chicken lollypops (came in a cute bicycle basket) and let's chaat. All tasted great! For entreé, i ordered the Kandahari Chicken and my friend ordered the chicken tikka masala, which were both very flavorful and tasted delicious! Sad to see how much the quality of experience has declined over the past 10+ years. Mantra was the go-to local spot for Indian food because the value of the service, food, and cocktails matched cost - my friends and I used to love dining here as often as we could! Parking at Mantra is so much better than street parking in Hoboken! But nowadays, you don't get rice with the entrees unless you ask, no appetizer papadum, the samosas have shrunken down in size, and they insist on taking your leftovers to the kitchen to package them instead of letting patrons do so at the table themselves. When we asked for to-go containers, we had to be firm in our request as we were met with resistance initially, which was rather strange. My friend also ordered the same cocktail twice and while the first one tasted good, the second one came out really late and tasted like it had been sitting for a while before they remembered to serve it. Crème brûlée for dessert was only custard with no crust on the top - both taste and presentation were disappointing. I hope to see Mantra revert back to how it was a decade ago, but for now my friends and I will be going way out of the way for better Indian food, healthy portions, and fair pricing. read more

Come here for a modern Indian cuisine experience! We came for dinner on Mother's Day and it was very busy. The restaurant looks very sleek and sophisticated, and we sat in I believe the only table in the lounge area (a dining area table wasn't available). We were unsure at first, but we actually loved sitting there since you get more privacy, have a nice, sleek table with high chairs, and it wasn't loud at all in the lounge. For drinks, we ordered the sweet lassi, though it wasn't on the menu, and the virgin mojito. The lassi was nice in that it was not overly sweet, but a little more sweetness wouldn't hurt also. We ordered only vegetarian food. When viewing the menu online before coming, note that certain dishes are only Take Out. I didn't realize until later that I had been looking at the Take Out options before coming. For appetizers, we got the Malaidar Chura from the Chef's Table, which was fantastic! Just know they only give 3 pieces, so we got another one as well because it was great. We also got the Lassuni Gobhi, which was good, but not as much as the Malaidar Chura and I personally don't love that dish as much in general. For the entrees, we got the Kumbh Ke Moti (mushroom & edamame), Asparagus Kofta, Dal Tadka, and the Masaledaar Paneer, along with the Family Basket of breads and rice, which you have to get separately. They make their naan without eggs, which was a big plus for us! My favorite dish was definitely the Asparagus Kofta, though I didn't taste much asparagus. The others were also good, the flavors were all classic, rich Indian restaurant flavors.The Malaidar Chura was definitely the standout dish. For dessert, we wanted to get the Pann Kulfi, but they didn't have anymore. We'll have to come again to try that! Overall, the atmosphere, aesthetic, and food were trying to modernize Indian cuisine to a certain extent, and it was cool to try something new. The food was good and the owners were even taking our orders themselves, they were very nice and attentive -- great hospitality! We definitely enjoyed ourselves and will have to come again! We ordered Dal Makhani and Chicken Tika Masala. Two of the standard dishes that every Indian restaurant makes. The Chicken Tika Masala was basically some red bland ketchup, mixed with the Costco Pre-cooked chicken chunks. Dal was lentils cooked fine and with a creamy texture, but missing any seasoning. Great spot to dine, I came here with my best friend and she mentioned Mantra and she said it was good so we decided to try it. I love Indian food and I love trying new things. We ordered "Let's Chaat" which is a crunchy appetizer made of chickpeas, onions, spices, etc. It was so good and tasty and even though it was a bit spicy for my American taste I still finish it, no regrets here it was delicious! Also, we tried the Lychee Margarita (my apologies if I'm not spelling it right) which was my first time trying it and I was happy. The food was amazing, of course the paneer was delicious and the shrimp in curry sauce was delicious too. The service was great, our waiter was very very patient with us and very nice. I plan to now BECOME their most frequent customer. Upon entering the lounge area, I was greeted by the nicest woman at the hosts stand. She spent time talking to my friend and I about the lounge area, bat, and restaurant. We sat for a couple drinks (featured) before going to our table. We decided to make our dinner for 3 as a family style dinner. We chose the crispy Cauliflower, a few servings of paratha, spicy chickpeas, veggie Rice, and the okra. Service is also great, everyone was so nice here. We were warned ahead of time that they hold back on the spices here so if you in fact love spice, you have to ask for it. We ordered the Garlic Cheese Naan, Goan Shrimp Curry (extra spicy please!), and Lassuni Chicken. All super flavorful and mouthwatering. When it first arrived, the portions looked very small but after licking the bowl clean, it was only because the bowls were so ginormous it made the dish look tiny. Some dry-rub spiced chicken wings in a basket with a Szechuan sauce actually... but apparently is supposed to be an Indo-Chinese dish, sans the bicycle basket. A bit pricy, which leads me to believe the presentation is the reason. The chicken was delicious, but not plentiful... Reshmi Silken: Much like the appetizer, this chicken dish was also so cute that it was served on a thin wooden log dish with decorative dipping sauces.. Presentation on point.
