    Chicken Curry and Butter Chicken
    Lynne C.

The food and service here are both amazing! They have a great 3-course special, where you get an appetizer, entree, and drink/dessert. I got the chicken samosa, curry chicken, and mango lassi. All three were amazing and flavorful. My partner got the butter chicken, which had such a warm and comforting flavor. He is also gluten free and really enjoyed the pakora. Definitely recommend enjoying a nice meal here! There are plenty of seats and street parking.

Amazing squash soup as my appetizer. Husband got a samosa and kiddo got pakora.

WOW! everything was just WOW. the service was on poiny - very attentive staff from water refills to wanting to make sure our little one had what he needed. The food was DELICIOUS! we got their special which includes an appetizer, meal, drink or dessert and it was all so filling that we had extra to take home for dinner. My squash soup was so tasty, I could order a huge pot of it if I could. Maybe I could? (Gotta review the menu again). I got the lamb Tikka masala , husband got the chicken Tikka masala (the winner!) and kiddo got the chicken saag. The kheer was so delicious, refreshing and well, YUMMY! Lovely seating and very clean all around. HIGHLY recommend.

Food here is on the pricier side. Portions are good, except maybe there is more rice than meat ratio, and plenty of sauce to make that less evident. Although I am not Indian by any means, I've had very delicious Indian food made by fellow friends and neighbors in the past. Gulab is no exception, but I feel once they took care of the portion versus price ratio, things would be better. Also, it was a bit brisk in there with radiators behind us to salvage the winter cold. I guess there was no actual central heating.

I have only done take out but was very happy with my selections. I ordered the samosa chat, a vegetable samosa with yogurt, chickpeas and sauces. It was spicy and delicious ... my new go to! I also ordered the paneer makani which was also very good and came with rice. I also ordered a piece of naan which was perfect. Service was friendly and I am very glad that I discovered this Local gem.

    Cheese Naan

First time ordering from this restaurant vía UberEats and we are glad we did! Turns out the restaurant opened up recently, a few weeks ago. Food is prepared freshly, and higher quality than other Indian take out deliveries that are on UberEats. Nan bread are soft and chewy. The garlic naan is flavor. However, the cheese naan could use some salt or something for more flavors. Lamb biryani dish was filled to the top, and boneless!!! Some restaurant prepares it with bones which isn't correct, and also not enjoyable when you have to fish out hard bones while enjoying the flavorful meal. Saag paneer has a good amount of cheese, and the spinach seems fresh, not puréed from frozen spinach- which I prefer!! Again, food was packed to the top, generous. The complimentary rice portion could be increased so I have enough rice to pair with the main entree. Or I'll order extra rice next time. Aloo Gobi mattar came with lots of cauliflower, sauce, and peas. My owner complaint is that I only had three small pieces of potatoes !!! Sad! I love potatoes so was hoping to find more potatoes in a dish name consisting of "potatoes". Hopefully they include more than three pieces next time, 50/50 potato/cauliflower would be ideal. This entree also came with a small portion of rice. Our vegetable and chicken samosa orders each came with two large pieces. Shells are crispy, flaky and crumbly-like. Delicious! And he's there are complimentary sauces. Kheer rice pudding was thick and creamy. I am happy to know it's not runny. Not sure if it's the recipe due to regional cuisine style... but this pudding has cashews, as opposed to raisins and cinnamon. This is an ABSOLUTE must try restaurant, and I'll visit for a dine-in one day. Will definitely order again through my food apps for delivery!!

My absolute go to for Indian cuisine. Ordered here for takeout several times. Welcoming and clean is the vibe I get whenever I pick up my order.

    Butter Chicken and Chicken Samosa

I ordered the butter chicken and the chicken Samos. This was my first time having Indian food. The chicken Samosa was so good ( I really love the crust). The butter chicken was okay. I thought it would have a different taste. I wish they would have added the garlic naan ( I probably had to Order that separate) overall everything tasted fresh.

Lamb biryani with Chicken Tikka Masala and a fluffy warm naan, plate of my dreams

Was craving some Indian food and happened upon this store on ubereats and oh my god it is the BEST Indian food I've ever had. The lamb biryani was my favorite the lamb is tender and not dry and the rice was perfect, typically any other place I order this they just always make it so dry, that is so not the case here. The chicken Tika masala was tasty and the samosas are ginormous. Bookmarked them on Uber they are my new go to for Indian food. Also idk if they make the sauce in house but the green sauce was so incredible and tasted so fresh and just gave that nice touch to all my dishes. Looking forward to trying other dishes they have here next time!

Before I ordered over the phone, I checked online and saw that we would get a free dessert with the entrees. However, we didn't get it when we ordered over the phone. The bread basket/ order we got was 1 garlic naan and 2 plain naan. We didn't receive the paratha; not sure what happened. The food was alright. The chicken in the butter Chicken was tough not tender but the sauce was good. Palak paneer was good. The garlic naan didn't have much garlic taste; it had more cilantro than garlic. I was excited to orderfrom this place because we ordered food from them before. I was a bit disappointed this time. I think the food could have been better.

Poonam, our hostess got us seated and we went straight to grabbing our food, Their buffet selection was limited, but felt perfect. Snacks included Samosa's and Chicken Pakoras with a tasty green chutney, and mains focused on dependable classics like Aloo Gobi, Saag Paneer, and a rather bland Dal Makhni. They had one Indo-Chinese mains - Fish Chilly, and non-veg mains included Chicken Tikka Masala, Goat Curry, Chicken Kali-Mirch. They also had Biryani Rice and Choley Bhature, but the Bhatura's were very thick and disappointing. They served naan and rotis on the table and the staff was friendly. Restaurant had a good amount of foot traffic throughout our stay! Will definitely be our local go-to-Indian restaurant in the neighborhood!

I don't think they were expecting all the traffic that evening, but I'm sure every diner left satisfied that night. To start, we ordered king kachori and amritsari fish. Both were so delicious! The fish stood out to me because it was perfectly battered and fried. I loved the masala taste. For our mains, we shared a 2 day dal makhani, garlic naan, and paneer sirka pyaaz. The dal blew my mind away. I love spicy foods, but this was both umami and fire spicy. I was so grateful that we ordered a sweeter paneer dish to offset the heat. It was addictively good. A bit about the restaurant: The restaurant is very colorful and there's an upstairs seating area. I did feel bad during our meal because our waiter was running up and down to get everyone what they needed. It seems that everything is downstairs. They also ran out of a few menu items, like the mango lassi and masala chai, which made me a tinge disappointed. But otherwise, I'm already looking forward to going back!

Doaba checks off those boxes spectacularly well. The parathas and dal are freshly made. The chai is piping hot. All their food is vegetarian. And the ambience is the New York version of a hole-in-the-wall Punjabi restaurant in Delhi. While farther away for me relative to Punjabi Deli downtown, Doaba has more seating and is fairly easy to access with public transportation. It is a convenient stop for cab drivers looking for a quick bite or cup of coffee. I wish their restrooms were limited to use by paying customers, but the friendly disposition of the owners might come in the way of enforcement. Hard to believe I only tried them recently although they have been around for 15 years. I look forward to returning to Doaba when I am in the neighborhood again.

When you enter, you'll find yourself in to a tiny, narrow room with three sticky tables for eating in. Through a doorway to the right, you'll see a steam table with several options on offer and the small, connected kitchen in the back. On my visit, options on offer included aloo baingan, channa dal and matar paneer. To be completely truthful, I did not love the preparations I tried. The aloo baingan was overly soupy, with eggplants and potatoes cut into huge, unwieldy pieces. Channa dal had been soaked from dried (good!) and boiled with some salt, but had not been noticeably seasoned in any other way. (I have to wonder if the very sweet young man working the counter perhaps misunderstood its readiness level and served the channa dal before it'd been incorporated into a dish! It was from the back of the kitchen, not in the steam table.) The matar paneer was the best of the bunch -- a little too liquidy, but the paneer and peas were in good balance, the dish flavorful. (Unfortunately, in my mind, I can hear my Pardner's 80-year-old Indian aunt complaining about the food tasting like it was made by a man... and it was. ;) I did quite enjoy the samosas filled with potatoes and peas, which were somehow held warm, but not dried out and stale. And I'm a total sucker for chaats, so will likely return to sample that section of the menu -- as well as the aloo kulcha, which Alan S., one of my favorite Yelpers whose tastebuds I trust 300%, has praised. (Presumably the tandoor has been fixed since 2018?!) I also loved the mixture of patrons on my visit: polite, young, Desi college students; grizzled white hippies; Nepalese Americans, etc... Doaba doesn't serve the best Punjabi / Pakistani / Bangladeshi food to be had in NYC to be certain -- but the friendly, warm, welcoming feel of the place, the low-brow, sticky charm... and maybe the memories it evokes for me of friends, travel, street food... it all twangs my heartstrings.
