Wow, I just ate the best Himalayan lamb curry in my life. The lamb was perfectly cooked. Nice big pieces of lamb no bones very little fat. The curry that it was cooked and was absolutely amazing. I ate it so fast, I couldn't even get a picture. highly recommend.

    Vegetable Samosa

A very homelike place of cost-effective and filling bites of Nepali and Indian cuisine. Highly recommend the vegetable samosas as an appetizer. I'm also a fan of how they do their lunch special--it comes with a curry and two small sides for $12-14. The staff are friendly and efficient. I like both this location and their midtown east location!

    Chicken Tikka Masala Naan

I ordered the Chicken Tikka Masala, chose rice pudding for desert and ordered a side order of Naan. I am not happy to say the least. I was excited to treat myself to some nice , spicy Indian food and boy oh boy was in for a surprise. Before I begin, I'll begin with the two good things I can say about this dish. 1. The chicken was tender. 2. Atleast it came warm. Rice pudding was ok. 7/10. Not as creamy as I'd like . Taste like Chai. Where do I begin. The sauce in the Chicken Tikka Masala should definitely be creamier, and it was absolutely WAY TOO SWEET. Like, inedibly sweet. After I finish my review I'm going to scour my kitchen for spices to try to fix this atrocity of Indian food. The chicken had no taste itself, and there is literally zero spice to the entire dish. It tastes like sweet tomato soup. YUCK! Never ordering from here again.

Absolutely amazing fried veggie momos! I loved the sauce they were served with! Only thing is I wish the sauce was a tad spicer for an extra kick. Price was also very affordable

    Himalayan Goat Curry

Lovely Indian curry place. I ordered the goat curry which is very yummy. The only thing is I would recommend them to add some veggies. The flavor is already great but it's not healthy if the whole meal consists of meat and rice only

Great lunch special and delivery/takeout deal! I got the takeout deal for $16 with ragda patties and lamb rogan josh. The order came with rice, two pieces of naan, kheer, raita, mint chutney, and tamarind chutney. The ragda patties were so tasty! The container was packed with soft potato patties and chickpeas in a super flavorful sauce. The dish was also slightly spicy. The lamb rogan josh was decent-- the lamb was cooked to be very tender and soft, and the sauce was nice. However I wasn't particularly blown away. The sauce was on the sweeter side and not as spicy as I would have liked. The naan was fluffy and had a nice charred taste. I enjoyed eating it by itself so much that I forgot to eat it with the lamb! The raita was tart in such a way that it didn't taste very fresh. I didn't end up trying the other chutneys, but the kheer was lightly sweet and delicious. The specials here are a good deal, but I think the regular entrees are a bit overpriced for what you get. Their ragda patties are a must try!

Got the goat curry lunch special, and it was just okay in terms of quality and taste. For some reason the goat curry was really sweet, but it was still tasty. The side of vegetables and dal were plain and lacked spice. It came with 2 naans (I enjoyed that the most) and a small cup of sweet rice milk dessert. For the price of $13, it's a good deal for the amount of food you get.

Before I ordered over the phone, I checked online and saw that we would get a free dessert with the entrees. However, we didn't get it when we ordered over the phone. The bread basket/ order we got was 1 garlic naan and 2 plain naan. We didn't receive the paratha; not sure what happened. The food was alright. The chicken in the butter Chicken was tough not tender but the sauce was good. Palak paneer was good. The garlic naan didn't have much garlic taste; it had more cilantro than garlic. I was excited to orderfrom this place because we ordered food from them before. I was a bit disappointed this time. I think the food could have been better.

Poonam, our hostess got us seated and we went straight to grabbing our food, Their buffet selection was limited, but felt perfect. Snacks included Samosa's and Chicken Pakoras with a tasty green chutney, and mains focused on dependable classics like Aloo Gobi, Saag Paneer, and a rather bland Dal Makhni. They had one Indo-Chinese mains - Fish Chilly, and non-veg mains included Chicken Tikka Masala, Goat Curry, Chicken Kali-Mirch. They also had Biryani Rice and Choley Bhature, but the Bhatura's were very thick and disappointing. They served naan and rotis on the table and the staff was friendly. Restaurant had a good amount of foot traffic throughout our stay! Will definitely be our local go-to-Indian restaurant in the neighborhood!

I don't think they were expecting all the traffic that evening, but I'm sure every diner left satisfied that night. To start, we ordered king kachori and amritsari fish. Both were so delicious! The fish stood out to me because it was perfectly battered and fried. I loved the masala taste. For our mains, we shared a 2 day dal makhani, garlic naan, and paneer sirka pyaaz. The dal blew my mind away. I love spicy foods, but this was both umami and fire spicy. I was so grateful that we ordered a sweeter paneer dish to offset the heat. It was addictively good. A bit about the restaurant: The restaurant is very colorful and there's an upstairs seating area. I did feel bad during our meal because our waiter was running up and down to get everyone what they needed. It seems that everything is downstairs. They also ran out of a few menu items, like the mango lassi and masala chai, which made me a tinge disappointed. But otherwise, I'm already looking forward to going back!

Doaba checks off those boxes spectacularly well. The parathas and dal are freshly made. The chai is piping hot. All their food is vegetarian. And the ambience is the New York version of a hole-in-the-wall Punjabi restaurant in Delhi. While farther away for me relative to Punjabi Deli downtown, Doaba has more seating and is fairly easy to access with public transportation. It is a convenient stop for cab drivers looking for a quick bite or cup of coffee. I wish their restrooms were limited to use by paying customers, but the friendly disposition of the owners might come in the way of enforcement. Hard to believe I only tried them recently although they have been around for 15 years. I look forward to returning to Doaba when I am in the neighborhood again.

When you enter, you'll find yourself in to a tiny, narrow room with three sticky tables for eating in. Through a doorway to the right, you'll see a steam table with several options on offer and the small, connected kitchen in the back. On my visit, options on offer included aloo baingan, channa dal and matar paneer. To be completely truthful, I did not love the preparations I tried. The aloo baingan was overly soupy, with eggplants and potatoes cut into huge, unwieldy pieces. Channa dal had been soaked from dried (good!) and boiled with some salt, but had not been noticeably seasoned in any other way. (I have to wonder if the very sweet young man working the counter perhaps misunderstood its readiness level and served the channa dal before it'd been incorporated into a dish! It was from the back of the kitchen, not in the steam table.) The matar paneer was the best of the bunch -- a little too liquidy, but the paneer and peas were in good balance, the dish flavorful. (Unfortunately, in my mind, I can hear my Pardner's 80-year-old Indian aunt complaining about the food tasting like it was made by a man... and it was. ;) I did quite enjoy the samosas filled with potatoes and peas, which were somehow held warm, but not dried out and stale. And I'm a total sucker for chaats, so will likely return to sample that section of the menu -- as well as the aloo kulcha, which Alan S., one of my favorite Yelpers whose tastebuds I trust 300%, has praised. (Presumably the tandoor has been fixed since 2018?!) I also loved the mixture of patrons on my visit: polite, young, Desi college students; grizzled white hippies; Nepalese Americans, etc... Doaba doesn't serve the best Punjabi / Pakistani / Bangladeshi food to be had in NYC to be certain -- but the friendly, warm, welcoming feel of the place, the low-brow, sticky charm... and maybe the memories it evokes for me of friends, travel, street food... it all twangs my heartstrings.
