Hidden gem in the UWS with incredible South Asian food. There are lunch and dinner specials daily that allow you to try their curry, appetizer, rice, naan, and a dessert. The entree serving for the lunch special is quite small, but everything together is more than enough for a full meal. Their samosa chaat is my favorite item on the menu - the samosa is always hot and crunchy and their chutneys are fresh and flavorful. I can't stop by here without ordering it. The sauce in the Chicken Tikka Masala should definitely be creamier, and it was absolutely WAY TOO SWEET. Like, inedibly sweet. After I finish my review I'm going to scour my kitchen for spices to try to fix this atrocity of Indian food. The chicken had no taste itself, and there is literally zero spice to the entire dish. Great lunch special and delivery/takeout deal! I got the takeout deal for $16 with ragda patties and lamb rogan josh. The order came with rice, two pieces of naan, kheer, raita, mint chutney, and tamarind chutney. The ragda patties were so tasty! The container was packed with soft potato patties and chickpeas in a super flavorful sauce. The dish was also slightly spicy. The lamb rogan josh was decent-- the lamb was cooked to be very tender and soft, and the sauce was nice. However I wasn't particularly blown away. The sauce was on the sweeter side and not as spicy as I would have liked. The naan was fluffy and had a nice charred taste. I enjoyed eating it by itself so much that I forgot to eat it with the lamb! The raita was tart in such a way that it didn't taste very fresh. I didn't end up trying the other chutneys, but the kheer was lightly sweet and delicious. The specials here are a good deal, but I think the regular entrees are a bit overpriced for what you get. Got the goat curry lunch special, and it was just okay in terms of quality and taste. For some reason the goat curry was really sweet, but it was still tasty. The side of vegetables and dal were plain and lacked spice. It came with 2 naans (I enjoyed that the most) and a small cup of sweet rice milk dessert. Walking around the Upper West Side/Morningside Heights area on a Saturday. Feeling adventurous and looking to have lunch in a place never visited before, saw this place and thought "why not?'. Since we didn't see anyone sitting outdoors on such a nice day felt a bit skeptical but a friendly server came out to greet us and went ahead and took one of the three tables set on the street. We ordered Chichen Thali and Vegetarian lunch with black lentils. Food arrived in about 7 minutes. Both dishes were very tasty. The big difference between both is that the vegetarian dish has an optional side and the two other sides were already prifixed and the Thali I ordered came with two prifixed dishes (same as lunch special), a chicken dish, grilled greens (that were really good!) and basmati rice. Other options for the Thali were goat or vegetarian. Also both dishes came with rice pudding. This restaurant only offers soft beverages and if you want to BYOB I'd suggest you to ask the staff about it. We really love the food and definitely looking to our next visit to try new dishes. read more

I was looking food some Indian food, found this place on Yelp. I went in expecting pricey average food, but the food was amazing and the price point was perfect. The food itself was perfectly salted, not spicy at all (despite asking for their spiciest), it seemed freshly prepared and hot. Their naan bread is simply amazing. I'm from India and I have rarely had such good naan bread, even back home. I recommend that you try their "thali". It ranges $11-15 and it's very filling for a person with an average appetite. It's fulfilling because you get to try differently items. The owner/manager was very friendly. Tips: Do specify that you want "really spicy" food if you can handle spice. Chicken tikka masala is particularly good, although my spouse's favorite is the tandoori mixed grill. Also superb vegetable dishes. I'm not one for Indian desserts but the bread and rice are good. Generous portions and very reasonable prices! For outdoor dining, they've set up a cute little tent outside with three tables (socially distanced!) and chairs. The Chicken Tikka Masala was creamy and sweet, and it came with 2 sides. Beans and peas. The Himalayan Goat Curry was also really good. I loved how fragrant and aromatic it was with a MILD hint of spice (but not spicy). The garlic Naan was very yummy. Literally smells like heaven. The mango lassi was good but it tasted a little too sweet for me. Too much of a syrup taste.
