Catching up with a friend was good reason to meet at Om and try their lunch special, available until 2:45. For $17.95 / $18.95 (depending upon entree) one gets an appetizer, entree, scoop of basmati rice, the lentil of the day and naan. Add $11 for a glass of Malbec and it was a lovely, unhurried get-together. Today's lentil was soup -- and it was delicious. G ordered salmon saag (spinach) preceded by what I think was tandoori paneer. She was unfamiliar with Indian cuisine and worried about excessive seasoning. The waiter -- a really nice person -- made a point of advising the kitchen to prepare hers mild. I went with my old stand-by, chicken tikka (excellent, not overcooked or dry) and cauliflower. Honestly, I prefer Manchurian; it has more punch, but no complaints about their sweet and sour version. The waiter graciously brought over a complimentary dish of their homemade rice pudding. It was the best pudding I've ever had -- thick, creamy,[[HIGHLIGHT]] bits of cardamon. More please! Om is casual, quiet and a [[ENDHIGHLIGHT]]restaurant I'm happy to patronize. While not as busy as their original Second Avenue location, they do a robust takeout business. Last summer I noticed outside tables, which almost always is my preference. We came here for the lunch special deal and were so happy. It's $17.95 for an appetizer, main dish, dal of the day, rice, and naan. They charge $1 extra for chaining the type of bread you want but I think that's reasonable and worth it. [[HIGHLIGHT]]Ambiance: They have a nice and comfortable set up with plenty of seating. It's a cute cozy local spot.[[ENDHIGHLIGHT]] Food: I got the sweet and sour cauliflower as the appetizer and my husband got the aloo tiki. The cauliflower came out crispy but did get soggy half way in. The sauce also was a bit more sour than sweet and I think just needed a little more balance. The aloo tiki was spot on and was a flavorful. The combination of chutneys and spices was a perfect blend. As our main course: I got the OM Daal and it was delicious. The lentils were perfectly cooked and not soggy and the daal was well seasoned. I also really liked the balance of spices. The second entree we got was the Saag Aloo. This dish was also really nice and well seasoned. They did a great job blending the two. The dal of the day was a tadka yellow dal, it tasted like a nice home cooked dal. The naan came out fresh and was a big portion size and they gave a small serving of rice. Service: They were really nice and accommodating. Food came out fast and they checked in often to make sure we had everything we needed. Overall, I think this was really good and authentic Indian food and I would recommend it. read more

To start, I screwed up my order (100% my fault and not on the waiter) by getting the Chicken Tikka rather than the Chicken Tikka Masala which I had intended to get. When I put in my order, I asked for the "Chicken Tikka", and the waiter checked with me if I was ok with the grilled chicken. I thought that I was being asked whether I wanted grilled chicken as opposed to a different cooking method, and so I said that was fine without realizing it was an entirely different dish. Just basing my review off the Chicken Tikka and Garlic Naan, I thought the flavor of the chicken tikka was ok but the chicken itself was somewhat dry and the garlic naan didn't taste especially flavorful. I could see the food being elevated with a curry sauce, which was my original intention with the chicken tikka masala, and so would definitely be willing to give this place another try with the correct order next time. read more

A wanted to try this place since it's been a while since we had Indian food. Food was good and service was good. It wasn't very busy inside so it was quiet. We both got drinks. A got the mango martini which was amazing and I got some sort of mango lassi with alcohol which wasn't very good. It was too rum forward I think. Food wise, I got the chicken curry, A got the chicken tikka masala, and naan. The curry was well seasoned and spiced. It was cooked perfectly and not too spicy. A's tikka masala was also very flavorful and seasoned well. He liked it a lot. However, it is a bit pricey and while he did like his dish, A wasn't too impressed by it. Last night (11/11) was our first experience eating at OM and it was delicious. The service was friendly and helpful and the food was delicious. Came here for date night with my boyfriend for dinner on a Friday night and made a reservation through OpenTable. The service was really great -- super friendly and attentive staff willing to answer our questions about the food and menu items. We got the samosas (comes with 2) and the Tandoori Panir to start. Both were good but I preferred the samosas. Overall, the food was good I just thought my chicken tikka masala was a bit dry. But overall, great portion and value. You just have to order the naan separately but the entrees come with a side of rice. What a wonderful place to discover last Monday!!! I ordered the lunch special and my first appetizer was shami kebab and main dish was chicken tikka masala and paratha bread. It was all so delicious. Even the jasmine rice was incredible. The order took a while but it was well worth the wait. I love Indian Food! This place is my new go to for delivery, it's super yummy, fast, and has a great deal. We ordered in on a busy Saturday night and our food arrived before the estimated arrival time by about 20 minutes, which is always a great thing. AND, it still hotter than warm. I ordered the special that came with a choice of an appetizer, entree, and naan! We ordered samosas, I had the Chana saag, bf had the chicken tikka masala, and we snagged garlic naan. The food was so good! It was much better than many of the other take out places we had ordered from and we were thrilled. Bf raved about his order and mentioned that it was wonderfully creamy and savory. My Chana saag was perfectly spiced and had an abundance of chickpeas. The naan had a good number of garlic, not too much to leave the breath smelling funky, but enough to great taste. The samosas came with several sauces that complemented really well, but my favorite is and will always be the green sauce. This is my favorite Indian restaurant in NYC. The food is excellent, particularly the chicken Tikka Masala, Om daal, and the Paneer fried cheese is so yummy with the green sauce. I want them to bottle that green sauce, I'd put it on everything. I was disappointed that they didn't have Poori bread, but the garlic Naan is so amazing, I don't miss it. The service is the best. The waiters and manager are extremely helpful without hovering. They'll make any drink you want with whatever they have. The last time I was there they added an Aperol spritz to their cocktail menu and the manager was giddy about it. So cute. I love this place so much. I've been craving Indian food ever since our school hosted a Diwali dinner and I was too sick to fully enjoy it. Thankfully, there are a bunch of Indian places right by my boyfriend's apt, and this happened to be the first one we stumbled upon on Yelp. Not sure if it's usually this crowded though; there was a large group there that night. + Chicken Tikka Masala (+ rice) I'm not sure how to describe my ideal chicken tikka masala - smooth, creamy, rich; after discussing with the boyfriend, we decided that the thing that I like is probably butter chicken even though it's often labeled as chicken tikka masala. This chicken tikka masala was much closer to the attempts I've tried to make, which is not what I wanted. That said, it was pretty good; it has an acidic tang to it + OM Mixed Grill (salmon, lamb, chicken + onion naan) Honestly I don't think tandoori stuff is my favorite; I'd much rather eat the sauce-drenched Indian foods or the saag paneer. I generally find the meat a little dry, and although all of these had a great char and weren't overly dry, I preferred my chicken tikka masala. I thought the chicken was a bit too gingery; the salmon was my favorite, though it was pretty plain. I did love the onion naan, which I've never had before because I usually get plain or garlic. :) I'll make my rounds with the Indian restaurants in the area; I liked Om and I thought the prices were reasonable for the portions, but I have had better and I want it. read more
