The food here is tasty and of high quality. The curries are served with one portion of rice for the table. Pani puri - plenty of flavor, with sweet and sour chutney already inside plus plenty of spice and freshness from the water. Ragada chaat - well seasoned ragada patties in a dice, paired with nice toppings and in good balance especially from the yogurt. Saag - rich and creamy, but not overwhelming. The saag had a nice and delicate flavor that played well with the other seasonings. Onion kulcha - buttery and fluffy, the perfect accompaniment to any curry. Chicken Chettinad - I didn't try this, but my partner said she loved it. The whole meal worked out to $80, and it ended up being quite a lot of food for two people. My cousins and I came here for dinner on Sat night. As we were unable to find a way to do an online reservation, we decided to walk-in. The place was smaller than I expected and understandbly packed at around 7pm. We approached right as a family of four arrived, and they got ahead of us. They waited several minutes for someone to acknowledge them, but they lucked out and were able to get seated within a few minutes. Another couple who was already waiting also got seated. We were told 15 minutes, so we went to the bar next door and came back but the only table available was a 2-seater so we squeezed in and waited another 15 minutes until a 4-seater emptied. We also had an incident with a mentally unstable individual on the sidewalk. He actually chased us into the restaurant! But the head guy and waiter were able to ward him off - we were grateful for that. There is no foyer or waiting area in this restaurant, which made it difficult to wait for our table (or escape the guy), but thankfully it wasn't too cold outside. But it may have been an issue in the dead of winter. Food and drinks were both good. We got some papadum to start with, which was a nice complement to our drinks. Then ragda Chaat (slightly on the spicy side) and Chicken Tikka Masala (delicious, loved the sauce) and Avial (mixed vegetables). We also got Garlic Naan, which was soft and flavorful. We ended with a complimentary sweet dish of kheer (rice pudding). For drinks, my cousins got glasses of Malbec wine, while I got an Old Fashioned, which was average. Despite the issue with getting seated, we had a good experience. Prices were reasonable, and the staff was attentive and accommodating despite the crowd and chaos in the restaurant. The prices are also reasonable. - paneer tikka app: super soft and fresh and had a mustardy char on top sauce on top - dal makhani: very good and perfectly stewed lentils, and just the right amount of butter - saag paneer and Malala kofta : surprisingly very little oil and butter and cream because they tend to be more heavy - garlic and rosemary naan; although good flavors, they were a tad under cooked A nice touch they did at the end was provide hot toilettes to clean your hands at the table! After I ate the food at Rudraks Fine Indian Cuisine I swear I died and went to Heaven. We really miss the vegetarian Indian restaurant that was there before them, but we were more than happy to give this restaurant a shot too. My sister and I split two different chicken dishes. We had the Chicken Tikka Masala and the chicken saag. We also had naan, papadam, and a lot of rice on the side. I was a huge fan of the chicken tikka masala. That is my absolute favorite dish. I love the sauce and the chicken was the perfect texture. I also loved the chicken saag, but favored the masala. Rudraks also packed a dessert for us as well. We had dinner as a group of four and we all really loved our meals. We each got to try a little bit of each other's food and we were all deeply satisfied. This gem recently opened on the Upper West Side and so glad to see another solid, reasonably priced Indian restaurant nearby! The staff are so accommodating and always seat your party quickly. The restaurant is fairly spacious inside, with benches lining each side of the main dining area and blue chairs along the center aisle. I wanted to highlight that their lunch special is so affordable and comes with papadum and accompaniments (tamarind, tomato, and mint chutneys), complementary dal, basmati rice, naan, and dessert if you dine-in; if you order take-out or delivery, you unfortunately do not get the side of dal. Vegetable and chicken-based dishes are $15, while other proteins and seafood are $18. A few noteworthy and popular items include: - Dal Makhani: I have had this as part of the lunch special and ordered it with dinner. The texture is very creamy and they are super generous with their lentils. - Paneer Makhani: Very refreshing tomato flavor and great portion size, especially for lunch. The paneer is tasty and has a nice spongy texture to it. - Chicken Tikka Masala: The chicken is nicely charred with a balanced flavor. The curry is a bit on the sweeter side, which I very much appreciate. - Mango Lassi: Always tastes fresh and never overly sweet! While portions were plentiful, in fact large, and had a decent amount of protein, (something unusual for most Indian restaurants) the flavor was lacking and not very distinctive. Every dish was pleasant but tasted like it was watered down in both spice level and flavor profile. Another pet peeve: we ordered an appetizer that came as 7 individual balls, we were a party of 4. Can they not just serve an 8th ball, or tell us at the time of order this dish comes with 7 pieces, would you like an 8th for a slight upcharge? Will return to Kesari on 103/BWay as our go to. We dined in as a party of 4 two weeks ago and were very impressed with both the warm service and the food. We ordered a TON of different items and all were great. We typically alternate ordering delivery from two other UWS Indian restaurants, but tonight I decided to order delivery from Rudraks because I loved the food when we dined-in. I scheduled a delivery (I know, I know, who does this) via Seamless for three hours later. My order was then delivered 20 mins later (shout out super fast delivery). I called Rudraks and could not have been more impressed with the service I received. They immediately said no problem and, I can now confirm, delivered a second order at the scheduled time without charge or problem. In short, delicious food and superb service.
