We have a new construction house which came with dirt backyard. I was very anxious to find the right landscape company based on many negative/scary reviews online. However, after talking to Alex, I knew that he was the right person to do the job. Even though I've received a lower quote from another company, I've decided to go with Alex based on the very positive feeling I had after talking to him. Moreover, he has done most of our neighbors backyards which gave me confidence in him (I believe at least around 10 houses in our new Black Mountain Ranch - Heritage Bluffs community). He is very professional, trustworthy, and detail/customer oriented on doing the job. I've truly enjoyed interacting with him and his crew for a month or so. I was actually quite sad once they were finished as they were like family for us; chatting every morning with Alex about life, kids, work was a pleasure. He is very wise, experienced and takes care of the work for the right reasons to make your family happy rather than earning more money by rushing the job. He and his crew always start the job at 7:30am in the morning, the progress was exactly same as he promised, and he delivered on everything that he has said in terms of the whole process including the budget. It has been very smooth and enjoyable working with him and his crew. In terms of the work, he and his crew were simply amazing! Everyday, Alex came to supervise the job. He has helped us with the design and selection of the fruit trees and the plants (for example, he emphasized about functional aspect of the design and making it kid-friendly for our case). We met in the nursery to make the selection. I was overwhelmed with making a decision on these items, but he has given us great options based on our unique situation with small kids and I couldn't be happier to go with his suggestions. He has also taken care of submitting the design to HOA and getting their approval - everything was so smooth thanks to his experience. It has been around two months since they are done, and out backyard looks amazing. (We have fruits trees, privacy trees/hedges, small plants, real grass and concrete for the rest of the yard.) I've also recommended Alex to my neighbors and they have been very happy with him as well. If you want to have a piece of mind for doing your backyard, look no further - Alex is the right person! I used Gran Tierra for my front and back yard Lanscape installation at my new house in Bonsall. The community is brand new, about 1 1/2 years old. All the neighbors were in the process at the same time. We were all soliciting bids from multiple landscaping companies. They all seemed a little formal and cold. I wasn't really clicking with most of them and I was struggling with ideas of what to do in that space. This process can feel a little daunting at first and I was not really sure what I wanted so it was not starting out pleasant. That's until J from Gran Tierra came and spent time talking to me and during the conversation formed an idea of what I liked and the types of materials and mediums I liked. He asked me for pictures that I may have saved of landscaping ideas. I showed him Pinterest pictures I had pinned and a whole hodgepodge of stuff. He took that along with the yard measurements and created a landscaping plan. He came back and showed me what he designed & I loved it. He helped with understanding costs and budgeting and where I could and should spend the budget and how I could save. After several meetings I really liked the transparency and the vibe with this company. J really was awesome! I decided this is a company I wanted to do business with. Once we signed the contract Alex got engaged in the process. He's fantastic as well. Alex is super nice guy & very knowledgeable and very easy to work with. He was with his team on the job almost every day! The guys on his team have worked with him for years and they are all very nice and hard working. As the design started to come together I was able to adjust and add things and make some changes without being disruptive. Alex always helped guide me on the vision and helped me avoid adding additional items or changes that, had I pushed, they would have definitely not been appealing to the end design. The entire process was very good and thankfully uneventful with zero surprises. The project stayed on budget and on time. Alex was always available for any questions and kept me updated on what was next and what decision needed at what times. I have to admit he's also a great conversationalist and I probably spent several hours of his time shooting the breeze. Alex really made the process a joy. We purchased a home last year in a newly developed area near Black Mountain. Although we spent months decorating the interior of the house, our BIGGEST worry and challenge was the backyard, which is a small area with a steep and rocky upslope. Our hope was to maximize the outdoor entertainment area as well as create an aesthetically pleasing desert-themed oasis. Within 3 months of moving into our house, we were bombarded with landscape advertisement flyers. Since we are new to the San Diego County, it was daunting to select a landscaper who could meet our needs and stay within our budget. We interviewed several landscaping companies and received numerous plans and estimates; however, at the end, we chose GRAN TIERRA. Alex, the owner of Gran Tierra, was a delight to work with. From the day we met him to the final completion of our backyard, Alex was punctual, professional, friendly, knowledgeable and resourceful. He took our backyard vision and transformed it into drawings - detailing the hardscape (limestone decking, terracing, stairs and built-in BBQ island) and landscape (plant species). He even submitted the plans/drawings to the HOA/neighbors for approval. We were so pleased to sit back and just let Gran Tierra take over our huge project. Alex's team arrived early every morning and worked tirelessly to excavate the sloped area and build 2 sets of retaining walls for the terracing. We saw huge progress everyday as our backyard underwent major landscape changes. The Gran Tierra crew was equally friendly and courteous. Alex or his brother was always onsite to supervise the work. Whenever Alex was not onsite and we had questions or concerns, he was readily available via phone or text. The LED-lit stairs leading up to the remaining slope is beautifully designed/executed and the rest of the decking worked out well aesthetically and functionally.
