Caffe Convivium in Versailles offers a charming al fresco dining experience. I thoroughly enjoyed my fusilone pesto--it was delicious. The pizza was good, though the tartufata pizza didn't quite live up to my expectations. Unfortunately, I was too hungry to snap photos of the meal this time. The fresh juices were excellent; I especially recommend the mango. However, the lemonade was bottled and carbonated, which wasn't what I expected. I came here with a party of 14 so I rated them 4 stars based on the ambiance, ability to serve all 14 of us although I would rate most of the food a 3. I was not impressed and the most of the food needed more flavor. I am keeping my reviews in Paris short as I've been on vacation and just want to provide some input. Nice place, very hip, not easy to get in and they seem to always have a line. Remember this is Italian cuisine in a city know for French food. The staff were nice, several spoke English, make sure you find the menu in English if you need it. They are pricey, have more choices of food than needed. This includes pizza, salads, drinks, wine, beer, calamari, bruschetta, pasta dishes, entrees, deserts, and beverages. I had the minestrone soup which was good and the salmon with pasta. Nice portion although the pasta had a great aroma of garlic and oil, was cooked Al dente and did not have much flavor. Overall a good experience although I was disappointed with the food for Paris which I'd know for it's fine food. I would recommend them for apps, pizza, desert and drinks. With 2 kiddos in tow we went in without a reservation (on Easter Sunday) for a late lunch. No issues. We got seated right away, staff spoke enough English and they were friendly. Kids ordered a simple pizza. I ordered a penne carbonara with bacon and the hubby ordered the pan fried veal in tomato sauce. For dessert we ordered the panna cotta with caramel sauce. Everything came out in a reasonable amount of time and we devoured ALL of our food. Delicious, simple and tasty. Just ate here for dinner. Food was good. HOWEVER! There is 100% no acceptable reason to force a diner out of their chair and make them stand while waiting for the check while you slam tables around. The table hadn't been cleared. You didn't check to see if we were waiting for dessert. We hadn't even received the check, let alone paid for it. Frankly you were lucky that we didn't straight up walk out without paying because honestly I'm not sure you would have noticed. Complete bullshit that ruined the meal for me and my mother. The waitstaff itself was wonderful. The salad were big, the pasta with the prawns looked excellent and my pizza was the best! I had pizza with parm ham and buffalo burrata! That was an excellent choice! One of the worst dining experiences I've ever had in Europe. We were seated outside, where we were quickly forgotten about. Waiters would come by and not acknowledge our presence. I would say we spent a good 15 minutes before some one asked us if we would like to see a menu.....A MENU!! No thanks, we just like to take up space at your restaurant (Sarcasm) Finally, a man in a suit came by whom I only image was a manager as he was not in the white coat like the other waiters. He apologized for the delay and took the order personally. But it didn't make much a difference as service was slow. It took about 30 minutes before we got any bread or water. Finally, the dish I got, the lasagna, was so bad that I thought it would be better to not eat it. it was probably the worst pasta dish I've ever had in my life. My friend who also ordered it quickly agreed. Terrible service. Terrible food. Reinforces the myth of how poorly Parisians treat tourists. Establishment has unfortunately sunk in service. Firstly, you have to email them to request a reservation, but they do not even respond with a confirmation which already should have been a red flag. I even had my AMEX Platinum Concierge service attempt to contact them and they could not. It was incredible in 2018 and 2019 when I had visited. I visited here July 2022 and the service was disappointingly slow, I had to personally leave my table and request our server to order food and drinks. Our server for some reason could not comprehend what an espresso martini is? It is a globally known simple cocktail and he was extremely rude with understanding the drink I requested. He raised his voice, body was shaking, and very unstable which is an embarrassment to the beautiful country that is known for gastronomy. Food arrived cold, crepes were mediocre, and please do not let the physical appearance of the clientele and restaurant fool you. This was such an unexpected treat on our last night in Paris. After eating average food night after night, we used Yelp to pick this restaurant for our last dinner in Paris. The food was beyond excellent. My husband had the rib eye with Gorgonzola bechamel sauce, and I had the ravioli in black truffle cream sauce. Both were outstanding. Like every time we are in Paris walking through the Champs Elysees, we find ourselves very hungry in the middle of very expensive and not always good restaurants. So knowing we are going to spend a lot in a meal, we try to make a better informed pick using Yelp or taking serious reviews at at least 3 or 4 restaurants menus. We were lucky to find this place nearby the main traffic zone, and the food was excellent with a service that we don't usually find in Paris: Very good, with a strong Italian way. I personally tried a mushroom soup (cream) that was excellent, a chicken dish that had an amazingly tasting potatoes and a tiramisu with strawberries that is among the best I have tasted in my life. The place is expensive (our party of 2 check came to a bit more of 100 Euro) but it's well worth if that can fit your budget as the service is refreshing after a long day of walking. If you can afford it, I recommend this place as all the ingredients used are of superior quality and undeniable freshness. read more
