    Scallop carpaccio!
    Rania A.

I would definitely recommend this gem to locals and tourists alike! We came on Christmas Eve night and had the tasting menu which is a set 5 course meal for $180euros per person. The wait staff was incredible and very versatile! You want English, French, Italian they speak it all with heart and love. Now for the food. If I could rate a 10 this would be above that! We started with a plate of bite sized finger appetizers and bread. Then a scallop carpaccio which immediately sent me to food heaven. It was laced with Italian olive oil and Russian caviar. The next dish that was brought was a creamy stuffed spinach and egg ravioli. I don't know about you but having a perfectly cooked ravioli with warm creamed spinach and a perfectly cooked egg inside that broke when you cut into it is an impossible dish to even think can be done. But it was! The next dish was the white truffle mushroom soup and then a crispy chicken with chestnuts and egg plant. Everything was incredible. You certainly can't stop there I recommend any desert before heading home. This restaurant deserves a Michelin star and am praying they will get it soon!

Whether you live in Paris or you're just visiting you learn quickly that the city is a melting pot of different contributing cultures and this is what makes it so great. When the city happens to be European there is a heavier influence on the adjacent countries mixing and melding and satisfying your needs to experience more. Visitors often search out traditional french cuisine and forget that there are a variety of amazing chefs from around the world contributing to the diversity and richness of the food scene here. We cannot live on the same dishes each day without craving the unique spices and flavors that places like Penati al Baretto offers. There may be many Italian places in the city but if you search the best and can tell the difference then this is the place to come too. The chef has many Michelin starred years of experience and understands the delicate relationship between food, wine and family. If you have the honor of sharing a meal here you will be instantly transported from the seine to a the kitchen table where you feel as if you are a member of the family. There is no question they are watching out for you like guardians of your evening and you'll delight in each dish. The wine is arguably the best collection of Italian varietals in France and the Sommelier will guide you in selecting regional delights that are impossible to find without traveling to Italy yourself. Each dish perfectly delicate and showing the skill of the Chef, breaking the myth of Italian food being heavy. The subtle flavors prove that while French food may rule gastronomy, Italy still is a huge contender for recognition and satisfies the soul like no other cuisine can. This food doesn't have any smoke and mirror mystery that Molecular gastronomy embrace. It is the example of heart filled food that satisfies the soul. Paris has the best of all things and here you will find the best of Italian cuisine in the beautiful Hôtel de Vigny near Arc de Triomphe and the Champs Elysées.

When we told the server that there was a rat all he said was "this is Paris" we asked if he could move it and he said "no, this is Paris don't worry." If it was just Paris we wouldn't have had other parisians in the restaurant being freaked out about. I get it we are Americans and aren't used to it, but not even putting the rat outside after we asked them to is awful. We stayed at the restaurant although we shouldn't have. The food took an hour and a half to come out, and the server was pretty awful. Typical for Paris but even worse than usual. The prices were outrageous and the food did not taste good whatsoever. Highly don't recommend this place if you value a good atmosphere without eating next to rats.

They were closed the following day (Sunday) so we were somewhat surprised to be greeted warmly and shown to a table which they made up for us. We were given a couple of menus, and told by our waiter in a nice way that the clock was ticking for the kitchen so we quickly chose a couple of pizzas and a bottle of wine. Having worked in kitchens before, I know first hand that latecomers are not the most welcome by the kitchen staff when they are trying to clean up and get out to enjoy their evening and the following day off. The food was wonderful, pizza dough was crispy, the toppings fresh in spite of the late hour, and the wine was excellent. Now the prices we have come to recognize in our first few days in Paris are pretty steep relative to Vancouver, which is saying something, but we feel we got our monies worth. One thing to remember in France when using a credit card is that you cannot add a tip on the machine, so bring cash with you to tip. If you add it to the bill on the machine the establishment gets the money not the person who waited upon you. Cash goes to them and them alone. We are leaving Paris in the morning and heading back to Fenice again this evening, a little earlier this time to enjoy their fine food one more time. Highly recommended from our first experience, here's hoping for a repeat. Bon appetit! VISIT #2 Ate here a second time while in Paris and were surprised that we were recognized upon our arrival and once again seated at the same table we had had a couple of evenings prior. I can only say that our second experience was even better than our first. Our food was outstanding, the service first class. We only wish we had more nights in Paris to sample more of the menu.

The restaurant did not disappoint. After delicious starters of eggplant, rocket and Parma ham we enjoyed scrumptious mains with veal, beef medallions, lamb and rhombus pasta all thoroughly enjoyed. The dinner was perfectly complimented with two Cabernet Sauvignons from different regions each uniquely delicious. Finished with a tasty selection of dessert and coffee. Service was excellent, and the atmosphere was relaxing and enjoyable with a nice ambiance from other guests. I can highly recommend this restaurant.
