Mama mia that's a $35 meatball. Very good, btw.

Had a lovely lunch here. We ate in the Tavern section, not the main restaurant, which was more informal, more crowded -- the table next to us was 4 people at a table that suited 2 -- and unfortunately the chairs were neither particularly stable nor comfortable. The service was impeccable and the food was very good. We split a citrus salad (very good), my friend had the special sandwich and soup, and I had the meatball -- yes, that's singular, one single meatball for $35. It was quite good. We split the citrus cake for dessert. The food was 5 stars. But with the price and crowding, I'm knocking it down to 4.

Best place I've dined in for awhile now. While Gramercy Tavern has been around for ages, this was my first visit and it didn't disappoint. Dishes executed beautifully. Crazy amount of flavor. Great atmosphere, great staff and great food.

I've been to the Tavern before and loved their burger so I was excited to try the 5-course tasting menu. The first three courses were great but the last two fell short. The lamb was tough and hard to eat and the pork loin/belly dish wasn't particularly memorable. Dessert (chocolate flan) also wasn't my favorite. Service and ambiance were still solid but overall the meal felt inconsistent.

Lunch at Gramercy Tavern was such a treat. We dined in the dining room and the whole experience felt special without being overly formal. I ordered the squash soup and the beet salad. Both dishes were beautifully balanced and full of flavor. The little snacks served alongside the meal were a lovely surprise and showcased some seriously delicious bread. Service was top notch, just as you'd expect. I'm already looking forward to coming back to the tavern, especially because I still need to try the burger everyone talks about.

I've been waiting for 20 plus years to try this restaurant. It was not that I couldn't get a reservation, but we moved out of NY and I happen to be back for the weekend. We wanted a nice ambience with highly rated food and we found it here! The 5 course pre-fixe meal came with additional wam sweet potato bread, an olive oil bread to go, and a piece of raspberry chocolate! The service was exceptional and I'll be back again. Hopefully be back within a year!

Gramercy Tavern reminds me of the Maya Angelou quote about not necessarily remembering what one says but how they made you feel. On a recent trip to NYC, we came to Gramercy Tavern after probably 10 yrs since our first and last memorable dinner here and it did not disappoint. Service was excellent from the moment we walked in and carried throughout our dining experience. We opted for the cheese plate addition to the seasonal five course tasting menu. Each dish was well plated with memorable flavors. The highlights of the night were the first courses - the crudo and the beets, polar opposites in taste and equally delicious!

Tasting menu was really delicious you really get what you're paying for. We told them it was our anniversary and they gave us complimentary champagne and dessert. Definitely one of the few tasting menus in NYC where the service / food lives up to the price. And of course it's Gramercy tavern so the vibe is great

I wanted to eat at the tavern but they were all booked up, so ate at the dining room. Cocktails: the mole espresso cocktail was not as strong as I expected and I ended up liking it a lot. Their mocktail espresso martini was good too. The NY Vesper was strong although my friend didn't think it was strong enough. The dirty martini was standard enough. Meal started with complimentary veggies and red pepper dip along with warm sweet potato rolls with butter. The bread was very good. For lunch, you can get the prie fixe and choose one of each course. We also got other dishes. Starters: - butternut squash lumache: even though a starter, this had the biggest portion by far. Lots of mushrooms and a nice sauce reminiscent of fall that complimented the pasta - broccolini salad: this was tasty but smaller portion than I'd like - beef carpaccio: tasty as well but unmemorable Entrees: - tavern burger: although not on menu for dining room, they allowed us to get it. My friends did find it a little too salty due to both the bacon and cheese - pan Seared skate: this was my favorite dish, I could've had multiple portions of this - hanger steak: this was good too but unmemorable Dessert - We got the chocolate cake, which was a small piece with cookie crumbles on bottom. It comes with ice cream. - They also gave me a hummingbird cake for my birthday! Not too sweet and a good cream to cake ratio. - There were also chocolate Quinoa bars complimentary at the end - the Quinoa were a little too hard for my liking I do want to come back to the tavern side. The meal was a 4.5 but rounding up due to the amazing service and experience. They also have a coat check and the decor was nice for Christmas.

We ate in the dining room. Overall, some of the best service I've had at any restaurant. From the hostess to the sommelier to the waiters and servers, they were all very helpful and charismatic. They made the experience incredible. We got the three course lunch with the appetizers being delicious, but quite heavy for an appetizer. I could've stopped here! A standout was the beef carpaccio. The squashes were great too. The entree, a total miss. The hangar steak was teetering on cold, the plum sauce did nothing for it, not impressed. The lobster roll was also too heavy of a brioche bun to match with the lobster and it was cold so it felt more like a shrimp salad. Having this warmed would've made a major difference and the greens did nothing for it. Another miss. The pork loin was quite good except it came with a sauce that was not good - fishy and not in a good way. The tilefish was the best entree. Great all around. The desserts? OUTSTANDING. All of them. Would come back just for the apps and dessert. I want to assume they had an off day which explains the lackluster entrees that I'd never except coming from a Michelin restaurant. The service and other food more than made up for it. Definitely will try the tavern next!

I've been to Gramercy Tavern many times in the past, and it's usually a wonderful experience. The dining area is always lovely, though this time I was seated in a less attractive section, which was a bit disappointing. The course menu started strong -- the starter was full of flavor and really enjoyable. Unfortunately, the main dishes didn't quite meet expectations. The pork loin was overcooked and dry, and I ended up switching to the sirloin steak, which also turned out to be quite chewy. It felt like the quality of the meat just wasn't up to their usual standard. That said, the overall experience was still great. The service was excellent and truly made up for the food missteps. I'll definitely be back, but hoping for better luck with the mains next time.

There is a reason this place has been a staple and an enduring institute. One of my most favorite spots in NYC - and in the U.S. - and an absolute must-visit for the holiday season. Every time I've been, it has hit all the right notes. I love the food in both the Tavern and Dining Room. The Tavern Burger is obviously a must try, but honestly everything on the menu shines - meat, fish and vegetables alike. The cooking strikes a nice blend between modern American and subtle global influences. The wine pairing is also spectacular and generous. Also, don't skip the Tavern's Manhattan and Old fashion - easily one of the best in the city. Service is also equally on point - warm, polished and clearly well-trained individuals. Already look forward to the next visit.

This place is a fancy American restaurant with the tavern which is more casual and has burgers and a main room which has a fancy prix fix. Some of the highlights include the lamb, the hay smoked gnocchi, and the squid.

Went for Restaurant week, Had lunch in the Dinning Room. The service was acceptable and the food very good. Unfortunately, the service is not one star Michelin.quality. Started with the broccolini salad which was delicious the squash soup was also very nice. Had the fluke which was beautifully prepared, but lacked some flavor. The chicken was nice but also not exciting. All considered it's a wonderful restaurant but too casual all around and not up to the standard I expect from a Danny Meyers Restaurant

Ask the Community - Gramercy Tavern

What's the dress code for dinner and sitting outside?

We were basically smart casual. I wore pants and a golf shirt. Decent shoes, not tennis. That would be acceptable.

    Is dining room fixed price?

    Yes

What's the dipping sauce for the Bread?

How is the food in the Tavern (not dining room) and do they accept Apple Pay?

Food is consistently amazing. I have never had a bad meal there. They also take every major credit card including Apple Pay

Any need for reservations for the tavern side or is it pretty easy to walk in?

It depends on the time and the day. Early and week days no problem. Late night and weekends NO

What is the corkage policy here?

    $50

Can you order off the a la carte menu at the dining room for dinner still?

No, the dinner menu is a tasting menu

Do you prefer dining room or tavern?

The dining room has much more professional service than the tavern.

Is there a dress code for the tavern room?

There weren't any posted during my brunch visit, but everyone was dressed casually. I would imagine dark jeans and casual shoes are appropriate at night.

Would it be frowned upon to bring a young well behaved toddler?

Does Gramercy Tavern offer a vegetarian tasting menu in its Dining room?

There seems to be only one tasting menu on their website. I would call the restaurant and ask them if they could have a vegetarian tasting menu for you. Restaurants often are willing to accommodate customers.

Do you need reservations for bar seating?

I don't think so but it's best to call the restaurant to be absolutely sure.

I can't seem to find he cost of the dinner tasting menu and if there's a wine option to add.?

$148.00 per person. Wine pairing is $85.00 per person.

Does the Tavern room offer the Tasting menu during Dinner?

    No it does not.

Are dressy jeans okay here or should one wear dress slacks? What do the majority of male patrons wear?

Dark/dressy jeans are totally fine. You will mostly see men in sweaters or a button down with a couple people wearing a sport jacket.

    Is valet offered?

    I don't believe so.

Does the dining room offer an a la carte menu or only the tasting menus during dinner?

    offers both.

Will there be any resturant week menus released?

GT doesn't participate in restaurant week. However, there menu changes all the time. You won't be disappointed!

Would a long, fitted, black dress be too dressy for the dining room?

No I think you would be fine. A little dressier than most people but to me anything goes!

Do they have beer flight on the menu?

    They do not.

I've heard "Lunch at The Modern" so many times, one thing I was absolutely going to do during this…read moretrip to NYC was lunch at The Modern, and I'm so glad I did. Located at MoMA, The Modern is a 2 Michelin star restaurant hosting both fine dining, showcasing Chef Thomas Allan's cuisine, and a more casual dining experience in The Bar Room. The restaurant is gorgeous and has a giant glass wall overlooking MoMA's Abby Aldrich Rockefeller Sculpture Garden, a lovely view. There is an abridged tasting menu of 3 courses, but we opted for the full chef's menu cause we didn't want to miss their signature "eggs on eggs on eggs" and after the supplemental charge, the price was close enough. - Hiramasa and sugar snap peas/crispy ham and cheese--simple and delicious, with the hiramasa being light and fresh and the ham and cheese providing a deeply savory contrast - Chilled lobster, shiso, and green radish--the lobster was cold and sweet but as a personal preference, I don't really enjoy bitter flavors and the slice of lemon under the radish threw it off a bit - Eggs on eggs on eggs--words cannot adequately describe the unctuousness of this dish, it's like eating rich, buttery velvet on a crispy, fluffy log of brioche. As a bonus, they bring you an extra toast to mop up all the tasty bits - Pumpkin seed sourdough and cultured butter--okay I totally didn't know this was meant to be eaten with the next dish so given total lack of self control in the face of pillowy fresh bread and perhaps the smoothest butter on the planet, I may or may not have eaten it all before the trout showed up... they were nice enough to give us more :') - Sea trout with clams and saffron shellfish broth--the fish was cooked to literal perfection and the clam and saffron sauce enhanced everything even more. This fights with the chicken dish for spot #2 in my favorites of this meal - Heritage chicken, provençal asparagus, vin jaune--this reminds me of the stuffed chicken from Per Se and was cooked just as well. The vin jaune sauce was slightly nutty with an incredibly rich flavor and also went well with the bread - Lamb saddle, romanesco, and lemon poached dates--for some reason I thought the chicken was the final savory course and I did not pace myself at all and was so full by this point. The lamb was tender and the date was a wonderful bite though - Wild strawberries and cacao--I can't remember what was all in this but I loved the little wild strawberries as they were like delicious strawberry gummies - Dark chocolate cremeux, meyer lemon, and espresso--delicious with interesting flavors, I haven't had many lemon, chocolate, and coffee combinations - Mignardises of raspberry, lemon coconut, cherry cheesecake--only one I tried was the cherry cheesecake bonbon but my husband ate 'em all so they must've been good lol The MVP of this meal was the melon lemonade mocktail, made with honeydew, jasmine, and pandan. Might be the most perfect drink for me ever made because it was melony with a subtle floral note from the pandan and jasmine, and only lightly sweet and tart, everything I love. Sooooo good! Service was pretty good up until we wanted to pay, and for some reason it became really difficult to find someone to close us out. We waited almost 20 minutes between the mignardises and finally being able to pay, even actively looking around trying to flag someone down. Despite The Modern not being the most innovative of meals, it's easily one of my all time favorites. I definitely prefer food that's executed well over food that's pushing boundaries, and may be back any time I'm in town.

Hands down the best restaurant experience my wife and I have ever had…read more We wanted to treat ourselves for our anniversary, and I had recently watched their Bon Appétit behind-the-scenes video. Their entire operation seemed so incredibly focused, meticulous, and inspiring that we knew we had to try it. We started with the Iberico ham and the hiramasa tart, both incredible. Then came the chilled lobster, which was super fresh and refreshing, served with an amazing sauce that made me want to lick the plate clean. Every dish felt refined without being overly complicated. The service was extraordinary. You can immediately tell the front-of-house team is operating at an extremely high level and is aware of everything happening in the room at all times. At one point, my wife stepped away to use the restroom just as they were about to serve the first course. Without saying a word or making anything awkward, the staff simply looped around a couple of times until she returned. The moment she sat down, they resumed service seamlessly without missing a beat. That level of awareness and professionalism really stood out to us. Next came the rye bread, which was fresh and crispy on the outside, soft and fluffy on the inside, paired with delicious butter. Then we had the sea bass with crab, which was phenomenal and one of my favorite dishes of the night. But the true star of the show for me was the lamb. My wife and I grill lamb racks often, and I genuinely had no idea this level of perfection existed. It was cooked flawlessly, and the sauce was absolutely incredible. If I was not in public, I probably would have been scraping the bone clean :) Big shoutout to one of the staff members, Stephanie, who completely made our night. We were telling her how excited we were to finally visit after watching the Bon Appétit video, and she casually asked if we wanted a tour of the kitchen after dinner. Honestly, I thought she was joking at first. Then she came back after dessert and reminded us. Even after paying the bill, I still thought maybe she was kidding, but then she walked over smiling and said, "Let's go." My wife and I were completely geeked out. Seeing the kitchen in person was surreal. It was exactly like the video: super meticulous, orders being called out and repeated in unison, everyone moving with total precision and purpose. You could see the Omega clock, the Michelin stars on the wall, and just the overall culture of excellence behind everything they do. We were honestly in awe. Thank you again, Stephanie. That experience meant so much to us. Every time we visit a fine dining restaurant for a special occasion, I always wonder whether it will truly live up to the hype. Some completely miss the mark. Some are very good. But none have delivered on every aspect the way The Modern did. This is officially our favorite restaurant in the world.
