Can't go wrong with this standard American cuisine. Loved it! Banana bread French toast was fantastic and so big I couldn't finish. Warm service and waitress went out of her way to remake donuts for the children due to a mistake that * I made. Very nice. Will certainly be back.

But..... my gosh. The dishes looked nice. My niece said her food was okay. Her cousin said his food was overcooked. My dish was trash, my gosh, I couldn't stomach the taste. The salmon was tough, tasted bad, rank. The seasoning was weird and didn't pair well. It had some kinda spice that tasted odd. I don't even know what to say about it. But later that night I was throwing up well into the morning. I only eat possibly 3-4 small bites, most of the dish was left back. I still tipped and didn't complain as I just wanted the kids to have a nice night without arguing with whoever. As I write this I am reminded of the disgusting taste. NEVER again for that dish! Now that I think about it I honestly shouldn't have tipped. Paying for that dish was already above and beyond!

Once again, we made our pilgrimage to KB on December 23 to celebrate my birthday. We were greeted…read morein fine, friendly fashion, and my husband and I both enjoyed the special cocktail of the day. My son had a Moscow Mule that was jazzed up in a very cool way. My daughter stuck to the tried-and-true diet pepsi, and our friendly waitstaff joked with her about her sobriety! Guess who drove home? The rest of us then moved on to the excellent wine list. For dinner, I had the very delicious lamb shank with greens, polenta, and honey-sweet heirloom beets. My daughter enjoyed a veal steak and my son enjoyed his succulent, heirloom roast chicken. My husband found his seafood pasta over-salted (he really is sensitive to that - I like my food well salted). I suggested that he ask for a wedge of lemon, but our friendly server offered an even better, bold suggestion: sambal oelek. True to word, it cut through the saltiness. He was so pleased. I was so surprised by this idea. I'll have to give sambal oelek a bit more consideration. The appetizers and desserts were delightful, and the entire meal was so fun and creative! I think that I'll come here on my birthday every year! See my previous reviews to find out my history at the wonderful KB Food! The bartender was friendly and knowledgeable, and when we moved to our table our server was also great. Cocktails were fabulous and the ambiance of the place is very nice. My wife ordered this vegetarian squash dish and she loved it. I ordered the steak and the cook was perfect but I found the sauce overpowering. It's personal preference, I like my steak with just salt and pepper without sauce. My fault for not reading the menu correctly. The sides of purée and veggies were great. Overall KB hits it out of the ballpark and is so much better than the chain upscale eateries.

We stopped in Oshawa for dinner after being delayed by a nearby accident and chose Portly Piper Pub…read morebased on its 3,000+ reviews and 4.3-star rating. Parking seemed limited at first, but there's more available in the back. Just a tip: be careful not to miss the entrance, since exiting is a one-way street and re-entering can be tricky. We arrived around 6:45 pm and saw a small line with two groups ahead, but the place is much bigger than it looks from the outside and we were seated quickly in a comfortable booth for four. The pub was clean, and I was especially surprised at how spacious and tidy the washrooms were--not what I usually expect from a pub, which tend to feel older and worn. The menu is huge, and TVs are everywhere--even in our booth. Between us, we tried a good range of dishes: 1. Caprese Salad with Steak - nicely balanced with pesto, though the steak was a little dry. 2. Fish and Chips - incredible portion for $18! Crispy, perfectly cooked fish with fries, coleslaw, and even a Caesar salad. The fries were well-seasoned (no ketchup needed), coleslaw was enjoyable despite me usually not liking it, and the Caesar was delicious. 3. Mexican Salad - flavorful, fresh, and generous in portion. 4. Tuesday Wing Special - wings were $0.90 each, so I ordered 15 with a Coke Zero. The garlic Parmesan was disappointing--dry and lacking flavor--but the Buffalo ranch wings were tender and spot-on. Service was friendly, though our waitress could have been more proactive with drink and water refills. Overall, I was impressed. Clean space, huge portions, good value, and a welcoming pub atmosphere. Definitely a solid stop if you're in the area.

When we went for dinner, it was pretty busy with lots of locals and families. Despite this, the service was great and they got our dishes served in really good time. Also, the portions and pricing is PHENOMENAL - like a seafood or steak main dish for $28-$37?? Amazing. For the 2 of us, we were very hungry so we ordered an EVERYTHING GRILLED PLATTER and GRILLED VEGETABLE & GOAT CHEESE SALAD to share. There was definitely enough food for us. The platter had a good variety of meats. The shrimp and crispy but airy light tater tots were my favourite. The quality of the meats for the steak, chicken, lamb skewers & grilled squid were definitely mediocre and a bit rubber, but still cooked & seasoned well. The salad was overall satisfactory too!
