I gave this place a one-star review because initially I thought they were honest and provided good customer service. I have two daughters, ages 5 and 7, and when I walked in, I was told that a children's manicure was $35 with an additional $5 charge for nail art. While I felt that was already expensive for a basic children's manicure with regular polish, I agreed to it. However, when it was time to check out, I was charged $45 per child instead of the $40 I had been quoted. That may not seem like a lot to some people, but it was the principle of being told one price and then being charged another. If they had been upfront from the beginning, I could have made an informed decision. After this issue arose and because of the amount of time it was taking to resolve it, I decided to cancel my mom's manicure appointment. She did not receive her nail polish service, and I was still willing to pay for the time that had been reserved. However, after everything that happened, it made me question the way this business handles customers and pricing. The checkout process became a much bigger issue than it needed to be. The employee had to call multiple people to figure out how to correct the charge. At one point, they wanted to cancel a charge that was close to $200 and recharge my card. When I asked how long it would take for the original charge to return to my account, I was told it could take several days. I was not comfortable having that amount of money tied up for several days, especially because I needed access to those funds. After waiting approximately 20 additional minutes while they tried to resolve the situation, they eventually gave me cash back. What made this experience even more disappointing was that my mother it trying to catch an early morning flight, and we were already pressed for time. My daughters kept asking me, "Mom, why are they charging you more when they said it was $35?" It was an uncomfortable situation that never should have happened. I want to be clear: I did not come in looking for a discount or special treatment. I fully intended to leave a generous tip, as I usually do. In fact, despite this experience, I still left a 15% tip. Normally, I tip over 30% when I receive good service. I recently moved here from Nebraska, and in my personal experience, customer service there was much better. As a business owner myself, I understand the importance of honesty, transparency, and respecting customers' time. Mistakes happen, but how a business handles those mistakes says a lot. This experience taught an important lesson to my daughters: if someone is not being honest or transparent with you, it is okay to respectfully advocate for yourself and ask questions. I did nothing wrong. I simply expected to be charged the price I was originally quoted. I'm glad others have had positive experiences here, but unfortunately, this was one of the worst customer service experiences I've had in a very long time. They're the Soup Nazis of nail places: the quality of the service is good, but the customer service is borderline abusive. The techs seem eternally annoyed that you're there. No one smiles, they rush through everything except the man who did my dip and tip. I have very painful arthritis in all of my fingers. I told him, showed him my crooked fingers and asked him to please not squeeze and twist my fingers...he was working so fast and would let up for a second then continue until the fourth time I howled in pain. He laughed at me and said he's just do used to doing that. Didn't apologize for his behavior. Another time I walked in and got a pedicure, then a manicure and fell on the slick floor when the chair flew out from under me when I got up. They all looked at me and started to laugh. I had forgotten about this location after moving out to the Lowell area 5 years ago. I've only recently started getting dip nails and after trying several nail salons between Lowell and Grand Rapids and not being satisfied, I decided to give GR nails (Formerly Modern Nails) a try. I am so glad I did! Went in without an appointment and only waited 5 minutes. Tim was my tech. I enjoyed every minute of my time with him. He is very friendly and his technique is excellent! My nails look and feel amazing! This will be my go to place for sure from now on! Big bonus is the price was very reasonable!! The only comment I would make is the salon felt a bit cramped. They have alot of stations and then all the "Covid proof" vinyl dividers, but that's not a big deal just an observation. read more

Tried GR Nail Spa for the first time today, and I'm quite happy with the overall experience. The place was clean and the employees were friendly. Massage chairs and supplies are in good condition. The massage was so nice, and maybe seemed a bit longer than other places! My pedi got a bit smudged from putting my shoes on a bit too soon, but that's my fault probably for being in a hurry under the nail dryer and not taking sandals with me. Last minute whim I decided to stop in here for a manicure. They were able to get me in for a basic manicure. All the manicures were sectioned off by clear plastic panels and they seemed to do a good job with sanitization. My nails lasted about a week which is good with basic nail polish. This establishment looked very nice at first and I was excited after looking over some of the reviews to buy my fiance a gift certificate to get her nails done. She used the services on 5/16 and was not happy with the service she received. The told her while she was getting them done that it was her fault that certain defects were happening because of her movements while drying her nails. We went back in on Saturday and tried to get them redone because they were not very well done, not filling her whole nail. The manager at this establishment proceeded to push on her nail bed and told us she has too much cuticle( no other nail salon has ever told her this in her life, always was able to paint her whole nail and remove the cuticle, she gets her nails done very often) she was blamed for her nails not looking so great and told us it was our fault. Told us "people come in here trying to get free nails all the time so we are going to cut your nails off". As the customer, this made me feel like I was being accused of trying to get something for free and it was humiliating and disrespectful to then proceed to cut my fiancé's nails off. After the manager agreed to refund the service,(only about half of what we really paid) The manger there continued to dig at me because I told him I would be writing reviews about my experience here and he said " keep talking and your not getting any refund" aggressively put a no refunds pamphlet in front of me and processed to lecture me about what no refund means. He also said that my family was banned from getting nails done there again as my family walked out. Childish. This was honestly the worst experience I have had in a retail setting. I would never recommend coming to this place. I feel that was was profiled. GR Nail Spa has always been wonderful to me. They are efficient, personable and they are great with detail. They'll give you exactly what you want even if it takes a revision. I've had acrylic full sets, natural manicures, pedicures and eyebrow waxes. All the above were better than I expected. The employees take their time to massage my hands and wrists or feet and legs with care and effort, leaving me not only feeling prettier but more relaxed. Great place for a wedding party, birthday group or mother's day. I just go because I can't do my own nails anywhere near as well as they can. Prices are standard and fair. I have been going to GR nail spa for many months. Last Saturday I went to have my monthly dip nails done. I am usually very happy with the service, however I never had Stephanie before. She rushed through the job doing it very badly. From start to finish I was done in 40 minutes. I would have appreciated the efficiency IF it was accompanied with quality. Not only that, I am flexible on conversation. Meaning talk to me or don't. Stephanie and I didn't converse, other than when she scolded me throughout the manicure for where my hands were. She did not use a towel. Her station was messy. She got nail debris all over me in the hasty way she worked. My nails felt rough the minute I was washing my hands. I went back to get them fixed. The guy wasn't there who does my nails usually ...so I was ok with the ladies there to fix my nails... Instantly the ladies there were very rude and told me to have a seat they would right with me...as I'm waiting now going on 20 minutes...two other ladies come in and they are greeted nicely and professionally...by the same lady....were seated and she started doing their nails! When I asked her when would it be my turn...she said I don't have time to do your nails! I waited for another 20 minutes...if I had not paid $40.00 for a fill the day before I would have left! I visited GR Nails last week for a mani/pedi combo. I've had manicures done here before with great results. This last visit, however, was not good. The pedicure was ok, nothing special. But the manicure was one of the worst I've ever had. The young man (who I assume was called in to do my manicure because he left after he was done) did absolutely no prep work. He used a board to shape my nails, had me wash my hands, then proceeded to place on the color. There was no cuticle work, no attempt to do anything more than add color. His own nails were long and dirty, which was kinda gross. I should have said something then and I regret not doing so. When he added color it was very thin and had to use 3 coats to get proper coverage. His nail dryer was set up so I had to cross my arms over each other to place my hand in the dryer. At the end, the nails were still tacky. The girl next to us had to tell him to use the alcohol spray. It's only been a week and the color is already peeling. I had to remove it all. I will think twice before going back there for any more nail treatments. The saving grace is that I've had two previous manicures from other technicians that were wonderful. But if I get that young man again I will leave and find another salon. On a personal note he was nice, but nice doesn't make up for a crappy manicure. read more
