What a 'royal' disappointment this GBK experience in Windsor was for us last night. We thought we'd combine a favorite stand-by chain with a more fun location after an evening of wandering around Windsor admiring the view and all the fun drunk dressed up Ascot peoples. This location is off the beaten trail a bit, tucked inside a shopping centre that is closed for the most part in the evenings. Only two other tables were occupied when we arrived, and yet almost every table in the place was covered in crumbs dishes, with a very dirty floor as well. Not a great first impression! Clearly the staff was more into the football then giving us any sort of service. We could see them all standing around in the back. We probably should have left at this point, but we went with it. We were given our dirty menus and up I went to the counter to order. The server seemed annoyed beyond belief when I changed my order halfway through. Um. Ooookay, so sorry to be a burden. Paid, sat down. Our food arrived...and it was interesting to me that for some reason we were given the smaller burger. I've been to many a GBK in central London and the burgers we got were half as much meat. Disappointing, but at least they were well cooked and nicely presented. I have a hunch that because my partner told them that he'd never been to a GBK before, that they figured they could get away with it. My order wasn't quite right either...I asked for them to put the mayo on the side...and my burger arrived with mayo on it, as well as mayo on the side. My chips were cold and not cooked all the way through. Oook. We aren't impressed at this point, but we were too tired and hungry to deal with being complainers. We opted to get a milkshake for dessert...and when my partner went up to order and pay for it, the girl announced that she forgot to charge us for our drinks and we were going to have to pay for those now. Um. Wow. Tacky. Fine. We paid for them, and our milkshakes, which frankly ended up being cold chocolate milk. Overall, I'd say this GBK experience was fantastically disappointing and we really won't be coming back to this one in particular ever if we can help it.
