Boy, sometimes I wish there was a multidimensional rating system for Yelp - something that has shades of color, and gradients, and you could look at it from multiple angles. I'd use that system fully to describe Gorditos. Yes. Large. Got it. But fantastic? If the burrito were half the size and half the price, would it still receive the raves? I'm not sure. Someone recommended this place, saying it was the best place EVER! Well those are high standards to live up to, especially when it comes to mexican food, but GORDITO'S delivers on that statement. This was the best burrito I've probably ever had. It was delicious and HUGE. I mean really...they say burritos as big as a baby for a reason....THEY REALLY ARE THAT BIG. My fiancé and I had our first restaurant date here... the burrito was as big as an infant! We promised ourselves if we ever had a child, we'd take him or her here to pose with the massive burrito. There was a wall filled with photos of people who had done the same. When a nearby establishment blew up and damaged the building, we were SO bummed! Self serve napkins, silverware, water, takeout boxes. They make a really good fruit drink. First time it was watermelon, next time it was strawberry. I enjoyed the steak burrito but midway through, I could eat no more and ended up having the other half for lunch the next day. For around six dollars, you can order a large flour tortilla stuffed with your choice of protein (chicken, steak, pork, or tofu), black beans, rice, sour cream and fresh chunky salsa. If you want it wet, add about a buck. Confused what that is? Basically your burrito is smothered in salsa, melted cheese, and sour cream. Upon entering the homey brick façade, you'll wait in line to order your foodstuffs. Take the time to view art or photography from local artists. When we walked in, I was immediately impressed with the friendly woman behind the counter who greeted us warmly and explained how to order and where to sit. I was not impressed, however, by the dirty floor, the ripped plastic chairs and the swarm of flies buzzing over everything. Kitsch is great. Dirty is not. I ordered the halibut tacos and my boyfriend ordered a burrito. We sat patiently and swatted flies, praying that the food would make it all worth it. It didn't. There was copious amounts of sour cream on my tacos, and I couldn't even taste the fish. It should have been called a sour cream taco. My boyfriend's burrito was no better. Yes, I had only spent $22 on our food, a Diet Coke and a beer, but it was certainly not worth it. I have to admit -- I've been to Gordito's several times now, and I have yet to try the baby-sized burrito. I know, blasphemy! However, their enchilada platter is super delicious, so I can't resist. Maybe next time I'll challenge my stomach to fit an infant. The salsa is REALLY good (especially if you combine the two kinds), the atmosphere is perfect (it feels a little sketchy, which of course, all the best Mexican restaurants do), they give you a little pinata with a name so they know which table to bring your meal to. The only negatives I have are that I wish that they cheese they used in the enchiladas was a little bit higher quality, and I also wish that they would give you free refills on soda (it's 25 cents each). Upon receipt of my dinner I couldn't think anything other than WTF!!! Sure I should have paid attention to the signs, probably should have seen the picutre of what the grande looked like, and I should have gotten the clue when the waitstaff asked me if I was sure that was what I wanted. Geebus...that thing is huge! It had to be the biggest burrito I had ever seen in my life. It was delicious but I only made it 1/8th of the way through. The remainder served as my breakfast, lunch, and dinner the next day. Even then I wasn't done with it and being too tired to eat the same thing again I tossed the rest. OH MAN! I LOVE ME SOME GORDITOS! This is my go to for Seattle Mexican food. Parking can be a bit of a challenge with their crappy angled parking lot, but there is overflow around back. Every single thing I have ever ordered here is FIRE! They have a huge menu and I love it all! I often have to stand dumbfounded staring at the menu (even though I have it all burned into my skull) debating what delicious delicious food miracle to order. Its all good, but my favorites are the special breakfast burrito with steak, the chicken tostada salad, or the carnitas quesadilla. The portions are ridiculously huge and every single time I go in I wonder how they turn a profit because for the quality and amount of food you get it is insanely cheap. The service is always amazing and it seems to be a family run operation with several regular employees who are super friendly and welcoming. My friend asked if I wanted to get Mexican food, and said she had heard of this place where her roommate would go, split a burrito with her boyfriend, and still have leftovers, for seven dollars. She was not lying. When we walked in we were greeted by a woman who took our orders (I went for a fish burrito and a glass of sangria). While we waited for our food we snacked on a basket of fresh corn chips and salsa. And then the resplendent burrito arrived, filling up an entire plate, topped with plenty of sauce, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, and crunchy cabbage. And I could barely finish half! My one complaint is that I asked for it spicy, and it was mild, at most. I might have to ask for it EXTRA spicy next time. Also, the glasses of sangria were pretty tiny and a little pricy. My favorite wet burrito in the city. I used to be in Greenwood weekly, and every week I'd go to Gorditos at least once. It's been awhile since I've been a regular, and I have been craving a good burrito for weeks. I finally got my fix, and I was not disappointed. Gorditos has so many options, including sizes, that it means I can get a chiquito burrito (smaller) in their Veggie Veggie (I'm not vegetarian, but it's SOO GOOD), which is super filling, wet and spicy, and for a great price. If you're the chips and salsa type, you'll definitely love that they often will give you chips and salsa while you wait for your carry out order. This place makes me so happy. I do wish that the ordering process felt a little less frantic and rushed, but lets face it, they DO get the food out in record time, and really can handle the long line during the lunch rush. Absolutely love this place. my friend posted a picture on her facebook of the burrito she got at this place and I thought I have got to try that place so I told my boyfriend about it and and checked it out We stopped in yesterday and were instantly greeted with a smile. we already knew what we wanted to order so we ordered. you can sit anywhere you want ....the seats are a little uncomfortable but whatever everything pretty much is self serve which is kind of nice you don't have to worry about tipping or having anyone bother you during your meal. I got the potato burrito and I ate every last bit of it it was so good. my boyfriend got the classic baby burrito he thought it was really good but the reason I'm knocking off one star is because he felt instantly sick as soon as we got into the car and is honestly afraid to eat the leftovers. When I sit down, the first thing that I do is pour their homemade salsa, also known as a Pihuamo Sauce, all over the top of the burrito to give it that extra kick. Diving in I'm hit with the savory flavors that I've come to expect from Gordito's. The tortilla has been warmed and is very nice and soft. The chicken is always juicy, never dried out. Steak was juicy and well seasoned. Salsa bar looked very fresh. The cilantro and onion mix was my favorite. I also thought the chipotle sauce went very well with the steak burrito. The salsa that came out with the free chips 'n salsa wasn't bad but I liked the salsa from the salsa bar better. Overall, I loved this place. Very tasty, friendly staff, and good Mexican music. This is great if you can walk here or park on the street. The "parking" lot should be sponsored by a body shop. If you don't get banged up by cars trying to maneuver on the gravel through the unmarked spaces, your underbody may get clobbered as you exit onto the alley while trying to avoid the concrete stanchions erected to protect the other structures on the alley. And don't try to go the long way toward 1st, you'll need an alignment afterward. If the well-being of your car is not an issue, then - it's five stars, all the way! OK, the portions are too large. It's "healthy" the way a six-foot ten-year-old is "healthy," along with its appetite. The basket of chips and warm salsa that come with the meal is delicious, welcome, fabulous, wonderful . . . then comes the meal. A meal for two, but you are unlikely to share. And you will eat . . . and eat . . . and eat. It is tasty. Delicious. Welcome. Fabulous. And, it is 'way too much. "Healthy" portions. My advice: consider sharing. Tip heartily, but share. One burrito - especially "wet" - feeds two, especially with a side of chips. Taste wise, five stars. I will never bring my car onto that parking lot as long as it lives. Zero stars.
