Found this place thanks to a restaurant.com deal. They really make some fabulous Gorditas and good news for vegetarians! They have six vegetarian Gorditas as well. yay! They were out of a few but we tried a couple of them. The one with Serrano peppers was my favorite and the one with nopales and onions was delicious too. The side sauces were excellent as well. They also serve complimentary chips and salsa. We also got a churro which was filled with dulce-de-leche which my little one thoroughly enjoyed. Our server was super friendly and she said that even if it wasn't on the menu, they could make us burritos, quesadillas etc using any of the vegetarian Gordita fillings. What's not to like about that offer? At $2.25 per Gordita, they are reasonably priced. I am definitely going back sometime soon! read more

Came here with my wife yesterday for dinner. Just looking for some authentic Mexican food. The place, upon entering, what's the dark and it was not clear that it was open. To be fair, we showed up a little bit early, probably around 6:15. I had an enchilada with beans and rice. My wife had the gorditas, one with beans and one with brisket. The best tasting thing that we had what's the brisket in the gordita that my wife ordered. Everything else was just kind of meh. FYI, the two waitresses that we interacted with both only spoke Spanish. So be aware of that possibility if you go to this restaurant. I enjoyed getting to practice my pretty awful Spanish. :) so, for me, it was actually a plus that they didn't speak English. read more

We have been wanting to stop by Los Comales for a while now, as we usually are in the Montfort area once a week for errands, and typically stop inside the Target. Los Comales is in the small shopping area to the right of Target, and could be missed easily. If you know me, than you know Gorditas are one of my favorite foods, so I was extremely eager to stop by, and we just so happened to do so on a Saturday night. I was quite surprised that they weren't very busy for a Saturday, considering they have a full bar side, along with a stage for live music. On this night however, their was no music so it was quiet. Although the name is Gordita, they also offer several other specialties like tacos, tortas and the sort. I was intrigued by their multiple different hamburgers so when we are in the area again and don't feel like going to Big Tony's, we will stop in and I will be trying their Hawaiian hamburger. A little bit of a language barrier is also present here, but it seems like the majority of the workers speak English. We just got a server who spoke little, but it didn't bother us as my husband is fluent and I know enough Spanish to order food. It's just worth noting because I know a language barrier makes some people uncomfortable. I stuck with my Gordita staple of bean and cheese and was happy to see they had a two Gordita plate with rice and beans. My husband got an asada torta. The wait time for food was actually quite noticeable. I felt like we waited around 30 minutes for our meal, but I'm not docking stars for that because I saw only one cook in the kitchen. I believe they usually stick with one cook, perhaps two on the nights with live music. We were in no hurry, and actually needed to kill time, so no complaints there. They do provide chips and salsa to snack on, so we didn't starve. The chips are very thick and delicious and the salsa defiantly packs some warmth. When the Gorditas came, I couldn't help but notice a lack of grill marks on them. I tend to like my Gorditas with some color on the outside, and that's how people usually serve them. I feel like homemade Gorditas are typically just a tad thicker and chewier than they were here, which leads me to believe they likely outsource their shells. I know it's hard to make them, but when you have Gordita in the name, you need to live up to some A+ product. However, they very well could make them here and that could just be their preference. The beans inside the Gordita as well as on the plate were very bland. The consistency was creamy and good, but they defiantly needed doctoring. Adding some of their salsa into the gordita, with a touch of salt really kicked it up a notch. The rice was defiantly different from most joints, but it was quite tasty but just a tad undercooked that night. My husband liked his torta enough, and he actually thought my Gorditas were better so he ordered a couple more to eat later. (It's worth noting it took quite some time for the to go order to come out as well) I feel like the menu was interesting enough to make me want to come back and try some other dishes. Like I said, we are in this area quite a bit so it's likely we will make our way back in to hopefully bump up the rating a little more, but for now I'm settling right in the middle. read more

To be fair, I tried only one thing here - the fried corn quesadilla since I had loved the ones I tried down on Cedar Springs in Oak Lawn area. And the fried quesadillas here is more expensive, maybe slightly a little longer, but also thinner. The tinga de pollo filling (shredded chicken breast in onion marinated in chipotle sauce) was lacking in flavor because they were unfortunately not well marinated because it was not shredded enough. It was nice that it came with Oaxaca cheese. But it was less of a meal to eat with the hand since here they drizzled sauce and crumbled fresco cheese on it. Another difference here is that in making the fried quesadillas, they used a large sized, already made corn flour tortillas to fry instead of closing it up the uncooked dough like an empanada and then frying, so it did open up apart after some few bites. The one at Quesa doesn't do this. But overall, I did like the menu. And did see the tacos and gorditas that were brought out. And saw a wide selection of Mexican tortas, including the Cubana. They had everything as far as authentic Mexican street food goes. The only thing is that it's half restaurant, and half bar. And I don't know if it's because of the overhead costs of such a large place or if it's just not pulling the people it needs to pay bills because of the desolate strip mall it's in - but the prices are more than what you'd think for a street food parlor. They do have happy hours and specials for drinks which means margaritas at a reasonable price (but still more than $4 a cup I've seen in some places around town). But the food is not bad. It's prepared traditionally and well. Just again, not the best. And definitely not the worst. I hope they reflect on this and maybe downsize in order to offer the food at better prices. Or that they start offering more to their Mexican street food options. I would give an additional star if this was addressed. First of all $3 margaritas for HH!! I was sold from there!! I live near hear and on my walk back home from Target I stopped there to grab a bite to eat. It was very clean and quiet. I noticed that they had a dance floor and a place for a DJ so I think they probably are a fun place to stop at on a Friday or Saturday night maybe. I got the 3 chicken tacos w/ rice and beans.. It's been a while since I have walked in here and things have definitely changed. Their menu is still quite the same. Traditional Mexican food, tacos, gorditas and Mexican plates. What my friend and I have tasted was well worth it. I ordered the Cuban torta (which seemed to have everything it the kitchen sink) and it was so good as huge! I had half and the next day I had the other half for lunch. It was even more delicious the next day,I thought. My friend had the tacos and she was wowed, as well. The place has been expanded to include a stage for live music on the weekends as well as a bar area. The restaurant is kept clean and the staff is friendly and helpful. They answered all our food sensitivity questions even if they had to roll their eye once or twice. Even so, definitely coming back. In my quest to find the perfect Gordita in DFW, we ended up here after doing some Target shopping. Yes, I love their invisible socks, don't judge. Was a little confused upon entering Los Comales because it looks like you could order at the counter, or could just sit at a table. No one came to greet us so we went up to counter to order, at which point, a waitress said we could sit and order. Saw the gorditas pictures and they still don't look like the ones I've had back home in El Paso, so I decided to skip them and ordered the Cubano. Excellent cubano torta that could feed a small army. Had to take half of it home to enjoy it.....dare I say, 1 hour later?! Perfect ingredients put together, Mexican style. This isn't a typical Cuban sandwich btw. The addition of salsas made it extra tasty, and extra Mexican. Will definitely come back for a Cubano and may convince myself to try a gordita. Stay tuned.... read more

If authentic Mexican Street Food is what your tummy requests, then look no further than Gorditas Los Comales. Located in North Dallas, right by the Galleria, I ventured in here last week after blearily dragging myself around Target for the better part of an hour, with a screaming case of jetlag. It was quiet when we arrived just before 5.30pm for dinner, (despite hearing that this place absolutely 'goes off' on selected nights of the week with Latin dancing & cheap drinks... something to keep in mind for next time!) we ultimately had the restaurant to ourselves. Taking a seat, we were promptly welcomed by our server, provided with menu's, water, corn chips & searing hot salsa. Winning! Ordering was without question the most challenging part of our experience at Gorditas Los Comales; everything sounded so damn appetising & hindered with only one stomach, this made choosing incredibly difficult. Ultimately, I decided on a Taco Plate (3 Tacos - Suadero, Chorizo & Carnitas, beans & rice) with a side of avocado & my friends opting for the Adobo Pork & the La Cubana Torta (Mexican sausage, ham, egg, breaded steak, chicken, cheese, fresco cheese & chorizo). We were undoubtedly rewarded when our food hit the table, everything was delicious. The tacos were fantastically authentic; served with lime, sprinkled with raw onion & coriander (cilantro for you US folk) & made on fresh Tortillas that I watched the staff pound & shape in the kitchen. The La Cubana Torta (which my friend generously let me try) was absolutely to die for. Stodgy, weighty & packed with more flavour than you could poke 3 sticks at, this here is some serious comfort food. I'd be lying if I didn't say that I was hit pretty hard by a case of food envy, reluctantly handing it back across the table & eyeballing it until she'd taken the last bite. If I could give a negative star I would. The margaritas are tasteless. My Husband ordered fish tacos. I ordered a chicken burrito and a small side of queso. OK, I must confess, I come here every day. Its close to my place of employment and the service rocks. The pastor pork is my fave! Yet, I reached a boredom, almost a sadness at the level of my familiarity with the menu. Until today! The waitress suggested a sandwich. "Oh, what sammich doest break from the light in the window?" (Shakespeare Smif at lunch) I ordered the La Cubana. Pork, egg, fried steak, Sausage, Mexican sausage and three cheeses, WITH avocado and mayo! In a day of carb counting, fat analysis, and lite errthang the behemoth came alone. No fries, beans, rice, nothing on the side. I lifted the lonely sammich and bit into it like a tax break in Long island.. Wow! Breakfast? Lunch? Brunch? Wait where is the sweetness coming from!!!??? I ate here last week during lunch based on reviews by other Yelpers. Tasty? Sure, but nothing extraordinary. Cheap? No. $8-9 for a torta? Really!? When I think authentic and Mexican, I think of taquerias, and at those places tortas are generally $3-5. There aren't any taquerias in this area of town so Gorditas Los Comales can justify charging more I guess. One plus about this restaurant is that they bring out complimentary chips and salsa before your meal arrives. As far as service goes, I'd have to give Gorditas Los Comales a thumbs down overall. Pros: The waitress was friendly, I was seated quickly, and my order came in a reasonable amount of time. Cons: The main reason why I won't go back - when I asked for my check, it took about 15 minutes for me to get it and another 10 minutes for the waitress to bring me my change (I paid cash expecting the transaction to happen faster). The restaurant wasn't that busy (I eat a late lunch so this was around 1:50pm when I asked for the check), and the cashier didn't look occupied so it taking this long really annoyed me considering I had to get back to the office. This place is dericious! Very authentic and affordable. Everything is good but I strongly suggest getting a plethora of gorditas above all else. The gordita shell is better than I've found elsewhere. Whatever masa mix they use to create these blissful delights is a treasure. Delicious and authentic. Fresh ingredients (amazing bread and everyone knows the bread makes the sandwich) and huge portions make this a win win. Decided to give this place a try but was disappointed by the kids meal portions size of their plates i had the gorditas plate with rice and beans the rice was really good everything else was mediocre at best save your money eat at the mall instead the service was good but then again the place wasn't packed at all. Visited here solely because of the 4 star rating in Yelp and have to say I'm pretty disappointed. Immediately upon pulling into the parking lot a homeless guy walked up to my car asking for money. That is the type of area you are dealing with here though. My lunch started off with free chips and salsa. The chips were flavorless and stale. No bueno. The salsa was good and flavorful, with a good amount of spicy heat. For my main lunch I got 3 gorditas. They were extremely small and not what I expected for $2 each. Flavor of the meats inside were just OK and pretty standard for any taqueria. Tortas are 9 bucks. Tacos are $2 each. Everything on the menu seems overpriced.Definitely better places in the area and shocked how this has 4 stars on here. It's a 3 star place in my opinion at best. read more

At first I was a little hesitant of going there as I wasn't sure if the pictures would make justice to the food and seeing as they don't have a website, I don't really dine in places that don't have their menus online. When I see "Authentic Mexican food" I expect Mexican food. The food here was plain, needs more condiments. Greeting: No greeting when entering nor leaving the place. Service: No one came to ask if the food was ok, if we needed refills, etc. We had to get the waitress attention multiple times either they ignored us or they were busy talking between themselves. And every time we caught their attention it seemed that they only got annoyed. But they did hear us when we requested the check, they were quick to get it to us. I would give 0 stars. read more

I have visited 3 times just to try different things and ensure I gave it a fair shot because people here in the Dallas area say how good Rosas is. Had fajitas...they are mediocre. Had deluxe mexican plate -lots of food for cheap, no flavor, no seasoning. Its falls under the rank of even taco bell. Had a basic beef soft taco one day - no, absolutely no flavor in the dry beef. Ah I really, really wanted to like it based on the yelp reviews but I was underwhelmed. I do love their gorditas! They were really fresh but when I ordered one of the tortas, which was supposedly from an authentic part of Mexico, I was disappointed. It was soaked in a red sauce that looked appetizing but the pork was flavorless and the sauce seemed tomatoey (?). I was very puzzled and didn't finish it. I only ordered gorditas. And they were very oily, greasy. The friend I was with said they weren't usually so oily, so maybe I came on an off day. But the corn tortillas were soggy and falling apart because of all the oil. I liked the different sauces they had though. I would like to come back and try again. read more

I really recommend coming to this awesome restaurant. This was my first time coming, the food was authentic. Service was on time and very polite.
