My fiancé and I thoroughly enjoyed this place. It was deadsville at 1:00pm so the service was very attentive. The man was very friendly and kind. My fiancé ordered a burger with Swiss cheese and mushrooms which was giant! He couldn't finish the whole thing and thats saying a lot considering he is a big guy and eats a lot. He got it with onion rings (which I enjoyed stealing a few). I ordered the chicken caesar salad which I enjoyed although it may have had a bit too much dressing for my taste. The inside was nicer than I expected, I think we were both thinking it would be like a diner but it was actually pretty cool inside. We weren't sure what to expect with a name like Googie's. Maybe they misspelled Google, who knows. ? We were hungry, it was raining, it was close to the hotel, and the ratings looked OK. We entered and were very promptly greeted and seated. the Menu was quite a mix of dishes, the include persian kebabs, zuchini, chicken picata, a variety of salads and lots of fresh fish and clam choices Wow - Too many choices. She settled on a grilled salmon which was perfectly cooked. with all the american food I went to Meat and potatoes that night, for a rib eye and mashed. When driving from San Jose to Big Sur we stopped here to get a bite for breakfast/brunch.... Delicious. I ordered the Huevos Rancheros and it was very very good. Tortillas topped with black beans, eggs (your choice), ranchero sauce, cheese avocado and sour cream... Just like the pictures on Yelp show. My counter part ordered the corn beef hash and he was also very satisfied. The corn beef was traditional bite size corn beef chunks (a little salty but expected with corn beef) mixed with potatoes, peppers topped with eggs (your choice) and hollandaise sauce. His also came with toast... And some really good blackberry (maybe?!?) jelly. Both meals were very generous size portions. Unfortunately, we didn't order the much raved about beignets... We were just too full. The decor is chic and the seating is pretty open (a couple of divisions of seating divided by large glass windows. The service was ok... We had a few different people come by so I'm not sure if that is typical or just the day we were in. But all in all they made sure we were satisfied and our beverages were filled and warm. Great service (thanks Ariana!) and great local breakfast fare. I had custom ham and egg omelette with tomatoes, English muffin with delicious HOMEMADE jam that really elevated the sweet taste. Plenty of grilled potatoes but I actually passed on most of them as I'm trying to cut carbs. Bacon was near perfect with great flavor and just the right amount of crispy edges to know it was prepared with care and attention. Dining room is incredibly comfortable with soft holiday jazz through the speakers and cozy clean feel. Attention to detail by the management really sets this place apart. Decided to goto this 'new to the scene' spot for a third go around, and they did not disappoint, again! Googie seems to be a type of decor or style, a complex mix between Madmen chic, The Brady Bunch, and Scooby Doo's Mystery Machine. After awhile the look grows on you! Food was mediocre. There were hairs in our tartar sauce. We ordered 2 Dr. Peppers for our drinks and when they showed up the dropped off an Arnold palmer and a soda, since I didn't want my girlfriend to be upset I decided I would just take the tea so she could have her soda only to find out it also was not right and was actually a root beer. It wasn't the end of the world but the Arnold palmer was awful and when I ordered a replacement Dr Pepper they again brought the wrong soda. We were hungry after kayaking in Moss Landing and chose this place based on Yelp reviews. No disappointment. We were actually impressed by the food quality. The Swedish meat balls were a nice surprise. I am not usually a meatballs fan, but was in a mood for some sort of comfort food. Glad I made that choice. The meatballs were done just about right and the sauce was delicious. The mashed potatoes were OK. A bit to watery for me. I like them firmer with more butter. If you are diabetic, I advise that you NEVER eat here as they will NOT accommodate any substitutions for the safety of your health. I have never in all my life been to a restaurant that would not allow someone to substitute the mashed potatoes that came with their dinner to a small side salad instead. Let me explain... My Father and I are locals who have eaten numerous times over the years at Googie Grill. Most recently we ate there on Sunday 11/19/2023, our receipt shows 6:51 PM. My Father selected the short rib. It happened to be one of the specials that night and my Father's favorite. We have both enjoyed the delicious short ribs special many times at Googie Grill. As with all of their dinners it is supposed to come with rice pilaf or mashed potatoes & daily seasonal vegetables. My Father is diabetic and so he can not eat mashed potatoes. Potatoes fall in the high GI category. A cup of them can affect your blood sugar in the same way a can of soda would. They (potatoes) are high on the glycaemic index (GI), particularly when mashed which releases sugar quickly and can cause a rapid rise in blood sugars which is specifically dangerous for individuals with diabetes. Since rice is also high in carbohydrates, he does not eat rice either. So for his health, every time we have eaten dinner at Googie Grill over the years, we ask the waiter for no mashed potatoes or rice but for a very small simple side salad instead with balsamic vinegar dressing (basically just lettuce and dressing, nothing fancy). According to WebMD "Balsamic is one of several types of vinegar thought to limit spikes in blood glucose levels. One study suggests that, if taken in moderation prior to eating, vinegar can help people with type 2 diabetes better manage their blood sugar". The waiters have previously always made this small accommodation for my diabetic Father. WELL... on Sunday 11/19/2023 our waiter (who's name showed up as 'Adaberto B' on our receipt) would absolutely NOT allow us to have a side salad instead of the rice or potatoes. We kindly told him that my Father was diabetic but Adaberto did not care. He said substitutions were not allowed. We told him we are locals who have eaten at Googie Grill for years and we have always been allowed to have the tiny, simple plain side salad with balsamic vinegar dressing instead of the rice or potatoes. Adaberto was starting to become irritated with us and kept saying no to our request. We then asked if we could have fruit instead then and again we were answered with a NO but also with a very dirty look on Adaberto's face. My Father asked to speak to the manager. Adaberto at first just kept saying the manager said no substitutions and would not answer my Father who kept asking to talk to the manager and asking who was the manager. Then Adaberto stated he was the manager when we kept asking. I finally said ok please just do not put any rice or potatoes on my Fathers plate he is diabetic and can not eat those things and please charge us for a side salad we will pay extra for the side salad. Adabeto said and I quote "I can not do that". I was like WHAT? You mean to tell me we can not even pay extra for a separate side salad! Have you ever heard of such a thing? I am in my 40's, my Father is in his 60's and we have been eating in hundreds of restaurants through the years and we have NEVER heard of such non-sense. Adaberto FINALLY said he would charge us for a regular salad but have it just be lettuce and dressing but not a "side salad". I then told my Father that when his plate arrived I would remove the mashed potatoes from his plate. We will now NEVER EVER GO BACK to Googie Grill! If you are diabetic this is not a good place to eat as they will not accommodate for your health needs and you better pray you do not get Adaberto for your waiter. I don't own a restaurant but logically my brain tells me that mashed potatoes and/or even rice are more expensive than just green lettuce leaves and dressing so what restaurant would not want to just give the customer lettuce instead if they asked for it? read more

My brother came here for his 9th birthday a few days ago. They brought free benignets. They were really good.

Apparently they aren't open at all right now. I understand they had a fire so they're in a transition process, but we were trying to support them by visiting them in their "temporary" location. They have on their page that they're open and also on their voice recording, because we even called to confirm before making the trip. We showed up at the moose lodge and wandered around looking for them, only to be told they aren't there anymore. So we won't ever be going back, it's super simple to update your information so potential customers don't waste their time on a wild goose chase. So even if it says "open" don't trust that it's updated and I would recommend not even wasting your time trying. Find somewhere else that is a sure bet! read more

I will start this review out by saying the staff and enviroment were nice and opening. The one star is for the fact my date and I between the two od us had an appetizer 2 entres and water to drink. Came out about 60 bucks and the food was so bad i think i had in the ballpark of 4 bites of the stroganoff and stopped eating entirely. Ordered a FRICKADILLER and a BACON BURGER to go. My wife said that the FRICKADILLER was amazing and had excellent flavor, unlike anything she has ever had. She really like the way the cabbage was prepared. As for the hamburger...well that is why I couldn't go 5 stars, the burger had no flavor, no spices and the bacon was so over done it was dryer than jerky. Ordered a group order on door dash for 6 people ( so we spent a good amount) and the upcharged me for gluten free bread. I know that is normal but when my order was delivered the sandwich was not put together on the bread. There were two sides of toast, not labeled so I had no idea which was was GF. So I got charged extra for bread that wasnt labeled and couldnt be used. The fries that came on the side are clearly coated in flour before frying so those were clearly not edible. ( Hint if you get a GF order maybe let them know the fries have gluten on them too) Its ok if they arnt gluten free friendly, I get it but dont pretend you are and then send a bag full of allergens to someone with nothing marked.
