I love this club. It's nearly perfect since it's just down the street from me, never gets too crowded and always has a good vibe. Also, probably has the best lineup of slightly underground DJ's. The programming is on point. It sounds pretty darn good in there, too, barring a few issues with the mix in the main room (the bass was nice and strong but felt kind of detached from the rest of the mix). What's not good about the good room they should really just call it The BEST ROOM because I am never disappointed. Every time I have been to this venue I feel welcomed which is the most important thing to provide as a business, it sets a really safe feeling in your mind for the night which then in return brings the right crowd. They care about the safety of others and always respectfully handle issues because they also care about the experience. When you're there for the music (which is always on point ) it keeps everybody in sync creating the ultimate atmosphere! It's been around for so long for a reason! read more

This place is so good. There are two rooms and music was great in both. Staff is super friendly and prices aren't crazy. It has ambiance, style, and good vibes. Definitely provides that music-centric experience you're probably looking for but still has the low key layout of a nice bar. I could see it getting a little slow sometimes, but on the whole, the slightly less convenient Greenpoint location will give this place a good energy from people there for the music without stressing you out quite as much as Output or Verboten can at times. Ultimately, I was disappointed w/Good Room (the venue for Motor City Drum Ensemble on 7.28). Understandably, MCDE sold the joint out and the main room was packed. Unfortunately, however, it doesn't seem like anyone thought about ventilation for sold out gigs - which could lead to a number of serious problems. While the staff (both inside and outside, where you can take breathers and reenter with the proper demarcation) is great, both the Tanqueray (watered down at best) and tonic (tasteless, flat or both) sucked -- especially at $14/pop. I want to give them the benefit of the doubt, but honestly, I hope my favorite DJs don't choose Good Room for future NYC stops. read more

Just went for the Nancy Whang + Juan MacLean opening party last night, and for now I'll give this place 5 stars! It was an RSVP only soft opening, so I imagine it will get way more crowded and I'll have to re-evaluate in that instance, but so far it looks like they're doing a great job. Upon entering the door guys and security were very friendly. Once I walked up the stairs and entered the club, immediately I felt like I was in a very cool environment for enjoying house/techno/nudisco music. The dancefloor although not huge is very open, with a raised lounge area extending around the entire perimeter. The room is very dark with rotating blue spotlights on the ceiling beaming down on the dancefloor that make for a pretty awesome vibe on the floor. First thing I noticed was the sound on the floor was great! Perfect separation of the bass and overall very clear sound. The bar had fairly reasonable prices for a club, $6 beers (crappy selection though, Heinekin, Stella, and Amstel), and $8 mixed drinks. There is a second room off to the side that has a very different yet equally cool vibe. It looks like an old library, it's dimly lit with a couple lounges and tables around with candles on them. Behind the stage are shelves with thousands of records which was a really nice touch. The DJ in here was spinning some old school 80s funk and new wave music which made for a nice escape from the house and nudisco out in the main room. The bathrooms were fairly clean and easily accessible, again I'll have to see what it's like when crowded but there was never a line for the men's room. I will definitely be returning here, it has a lot to offer then Output and Verboten don't as it's a bit more low key and off the beaten path. read more

Came here for AMTRAC on Friday and it was okay. The crowd was super grimey though. The sound system is good but I hated the FOG machine. It just made this place super icky. Really unnecessary because it brings down the venue. The drinks were expensive but decent for NY prices $12 for vodka/soda. There are two rooms. The smaller room was actually really dope and I wish AMTRAC was in there. The big room just got very crowded and was super humid. I would consider coming back if they just stop with the stupid fog machine. read more

This place is definitely my new favorite spot. I moved to the area recently and I love the fact I can just walk over. Output use to be my go to place for music and dancing, but the crowd there has gotten a bit dodgy. Anyway, back to Good Room- inexpensive cover, cheap drinks, good service, and a lot chill crowd. The coat check here is dreadful. I lost my ticket (totally my bad!), but then was shamed by the coat check people for not having it (e.g. "ticket - coat. see, that's how it works"), and told I couldn't have my coat back until close at 4am. This was a super cold night - 15 degrees. After waiting around and arguing for a while, they agreed to look, but couldn't find it. I then spent about 2 weeks trying to contact anyone at Good Room to see if my coat had turned up, and no one responded. Had to buy a new coat. Won't be returning. read more

A great venue for intimate shows. I can't speak about the club experience, but they have some great musical acts come through and it's worth trekking to the hellhole of Greenpoint. I saw London Grammar perform last night and the lighting/sound was excellent. The one thing I will say is that the stage is VERY low to the ground. If you're not in the first 4 rows of people, you will literally not be able to see a single thing from the back of the space. So my recommendation would be to come early for a concert so you get first dibs at standing space. Otherwise, the drinks are limited and kind of pricey. A small can of Tecate should not cost more than $3...let alone $5 or whatever inflated price they were charging. read more

Never been someone to turn up in the club and the kind of revelry happening in the Good Room probably isn't indicative of your actual, more mainstream club experience which is what drew me in the first place. The main thing about this venue is that just because a name you recognize or are fond of is DJing they either won't go on until 1:30-2AM, which means you have already sat or danced through three hours of electronic music or crate digging and by the time the person you thought were supporting goes on you're already beaten down. There is no fanfare from the DJ nor any introductions which I can appreciate, but this is a Dance comes first kind of club which is refreshing. The club attendees are all pretty mild and genuinely have a desire to dance and respect people's space, but mainly Male presenting people will push you aside or dance around you in the typical ungainly manner that isn't as threatening as your more mainstream club, but still a real problem society yet to address. There is also a second DJ room, and I thought it was going to be like a classic rave chill out room you'd read about happening in the 90s, but the DJ is usually a lesser version of what's happening on the Main Floor. Really should try to utilize that space with more contrasting sounds. Bar service is hit or miss, because as someone who doesn't drink I only order club soda or water and depending on how your bartender is feeling that day , or feels about you, they'll either charge you for a plain club soda or give you one for free. A confusing inconsistency but that's probably because I don't frequent bars and know the etiquette. For the Barflys reading this they probably want to throttle me right now. One last inconsistency worth noting: the fog machine. Sometimes it's pumping out at such an alarming rate that it's choking you with that very specific ugly nitrogen smell that's probably also a really real health hazard, then you could there another night and it's at a tasteful and reserved level. For introverted weirdos who want to experience the club scene and dance in a judgement free space I think it's worth checking out at least once. For people who want to appreciate the actual music you'll hear dance music that is more thoughtful and under the radar here, but you won't necessarily be experiencing the artist in a coherent way you may expect from a standard performing gig. read more

Dirty place. Creepy people inside. Overpriced watered down drinks. Bass is so loud it distorts the music. Ears bleeding-unnecessarily loud. Hard to have fun when you can't hear other components of the music other than sub bass and let alone anything else. And forget about trying to have a conversation of any sort inside. The Good Room is the Madison Square Garden of night clubs. Nothing more can be said. The amazing history of the space to the history in the making every weekend makes each night spectacular. I cannot express how incredible the space is as well as the two, yes, two rooms of live DJs from around the world. Playing music that will make the ones that "don't dance", do a jig till the sun comes up. 4 stars because, and this is a big one: the price. $35 cover charge? $20 cover? Really strange. Again, I understand that they need to pay for the space and pay the touring DJs. However, it's not a place to go whenever at that price. With no reentry as well, you feel stuck in the middle of Greenpoint with very limited transportation options (G train late night is beyond horrible). Besides the arm and leg entry fee, the vibe is fantastic. Drinks are great and well priced, not cheap, but what you would expect. Bartenders are friendly and bouncers are not, which makes the Good Room feel safe as a bank. You will feel like you are in a movie when you go. Even if you don't know who is DJing, just go. Bring friends, bring your date, or go alone. It's a place for everyone and it's what I like to call home on the weekends. read more

I went to this place on a Friday night after I saw a long line coming out of it on a Wednesday night that same week. If you love the smell of very potent incense, overpriced covers and poorly made drinks then this is your dream club. There was practically no one in the club but it costs $20 to get in anyway? Good Room is my favorite of the larger scale night clubs in Brooklyn (vs. Output and Schiamanski) for many reasons. There is an excellent sound system in both the Good and Bad Rooms, while the main room ("Good Room) is equipped with a v cool professional lighting rig and disco ball. The entire place engulfs you with its warm & cozy vibez all throughout the venue. Every member of the staff - from the security guards to the bartenders to the sound engineer - are all friendly, nice people. Special shoutout to man like AJ for being a top notch lad, who does a fantastic job of always greeting you with a positive, welcoming demeanor at the entranceway. The artist selection is always quality as well. Oh, and the drinks are fairly priced too. And oh, there's free water :). These are only some of the many reasons why I enjoy reaching Good Room to dance and why I choose GR over the other bigger Brooklyn clubs, Output and Schiamanski. (Analog BKNY is also well worth checking out and also ranks higher than Ouput and Schiamanksi IMHO.) read more
