Balcony

Visit Date: April 18, 2023 I went to the Bowery Ballroom with a good friend of mine to see the smiths tribute NYC. I might have been here many years ago to see Korn but I'm not sure. My family thankfully watched my son because I have him on a Tuesday night but I'm a little crazy about the Smiths. My friend and I saw one Smiths tribute band before at Gs or The Avenue in West Hempstead but the sound system was a little wonky at the time so I can't really say how good of a tribute band they actually were. When you enter the ballroom they have you go downstairs first. There's a bar and some bathrooms, some couches and chairs to lounge on. After that you can go upstairs to where the show is. They have a balcony but they had it closed for the smiths tribute band. The balcony is the only way you can sit in a seat to watch the show otherwise you are standing in the GA area. The stage is up a little bit higher at least for me it is because I'm a shorty but you still get decent viewing. I stood up front with my friend way up front because we went upstairs early and for me you're not living life unless you're as close as you can be. I got decent photos of the musicians and an interesting video to post on my youtube channel. This place also gives you free water so I have to shout out to them for that because a lot of places want you to pay $5 for a bottle. They sold earplugs for cheap which was good too because I have a loop pair of ear plugs I bought for concerts and of course whenever I go into a venue my loop ear plugs are in my bigger bag and that's usually in my car. Maybe I should just leave them in my smaller bag that I take in with me for shows. I like the bowery ballroom it's a great place to see a show.

I went to see A. Savage with opening act Sluice at Bowery tonight. It's been quite a while since I last saw a show here (2015 for Wire). Fortunately the venue is just as I remembered and noted in my previous Yelp review. Great show and a good time in the Lower East Side!

When you want to rock and roll all night in Soho this is the venue. Historical building, three bars, standing room only on main floor with some first come first serve seating on balconies. Attracts talented bands and sells out a lot as it only accommodates a few hundred rockers. Due to the cost, it's not cheap, lots of 40 and 50 somethings. I like that they take cash at the door so you can take your chances like I did as I was walking past after dinner and jumped in to catch a show.

This lady unprofessional so rude . Grosera falta de profesionalismo . Asegúrate a quien le reclamas . Nos dañaste la noche .

My complaint is for the security. They are extremely aggressive, especially this woman who came in like crazy yelling at us to stop smoking. we got tired of explaining that it wasn't us rude lack of education

A little glare on the Bowery front.

If you're into jamming to some smaller bands and musicians then you've probably found yourself all over NYC in a various assortment of venues. Not all offer the same experience and some can just be claustrophobic (I'm talking to you, Irving). A tinier location totally worthy of the trip downtown? Bowery Ballroom. Let's get to rockin'. My second time here came a couple weekends ago along with my girlfriend. We were here the first time for one of my favorite little indie bands and this second go around was for one of hers. She said it first in how much she enjoyed Bowery's set up, and when I stopped to mull it over, she was right! (A win for the GF is always a plus). There were definitely more people waiting to enter this time around, though once inside BB, things spaced out nicely. Let me just be sure to explain that the Bowery isn't going to win any award for size or space, but the way the place is laid out just works so well for a smaller venue. You'll start by heading down into the comfy lounge area. Here there are plenty of tables to sit and chill, a bar to grab a drink (come early and you'll hit happy hour), and a coat check with a clever sign reminder (see pic). This area is something truly not found at many venues, at least not to a regular ticket holder. Once the doors are opened for the stage floor, you can keep on lounging or head on upstairs to check out your soon-to-be concert experience. With multiple entry points, this not so large area keeps traffic at a minimum with fabulous flow of peeps. You'll find a tiny bar in the back of the space and some stairs on both sides with minimal table seating overlooking the stage. It's got a classy, casual, and comfortable feel going on. When the show finally starts, the venue explodes in light and sound while still keeping things pretty darn intimate. I never felt like a sardine, and was able to get some pretty stellar pics and vids throughout. After the final note is played, a getaway is simple (gotta love those multiple stairways!). Not to be forgotten is the staff. They're kind and friendly from start to finish (a nice touch at a musical spot) and truly helps to cap off a joyous night of Bowery-ness. Overall, Bowery Ballroom might not be spatially bigger than many venues, but their set up, personable staff, and ability to carry out a memorable experience, makes this a spot I'll be returning to with excitement any time I have a reason. Rock on, Bowery!

Marina & the Diamonds (view from VIP balcony)

I'm in love with this venue! A friend pulled some strings and got us VIP tix to Marina & the Diamonds for the first show on her new tour. Even if you're not in the VIP section, though, the venue is so intimate that there really isn't a bad place to stand. Unless you want to be way up front, I would actually recommend skipping the wait in line outside -- it's a pretty creepy sidewalk/construction area -- and arrive closer to the start time. The staff is very nice, and the acoustics are good. I'd love to return for another show sometime!

Had a great experience here watching San Fermin on December 19. What a great place to see a show. Love the layout and feel of this place. $6-7 for beer. Excellent venue!

SARAH, the security guard is a predator!!!!…read more I went to House of Yes last night for Futch, a lesbian dance party. I been a couple times before and met Sarah there. She was always so friendly and flirty with me. Last night I came with my new partner. As soon as we walked in, she was standing nearby and she looked angry seeing us together. The rest of the night, all I could feel were her eyes on me from afar. At one point, she passed by me and secretly caressed my ass. I felt very uncomfortable and asked my partner if we could leave right after. I didn't feel safe asking for a manager to report her as she's already a supervisor security there. This is supposed to be a safe space and I DID NOT FEEL SAFE!!! Apparently from another person there, she gets "around" with girls there and even denied someone entry because they were no longer together. I would think she would be more respectful and keep it professional. I DID NOT CONSENT FOR HER TOUCHING ME LAST NIGHT!!! It's gross to think this is their employer. I will no longer be going back and neither will some of my other friends. It sucks, I really loved that party.

The Moth is a storytellers event that occurs at different places, and the one I went to was at Housing Works Bookstore and Cafe, which was the perfect venue. It started at 7:30 and ended at 9:30, there's no drink minimum, you can bring your own food, and tickets are cheap, but hard to get. It's essentially a show where people who'd previously entered their names get picked to tell stories in under five minutes. Anyone can do it, and anything can be said. There were funny ones, sad ones, dramatic ones, silly ones, overall twelve performances along with a host who introduces each one. They also sell drinks and snacks there, which goes to a great cause. Whether you're looking for something New Yorky, cheap, chill, cute, or thought-provoking, The Moth will satisfy.

Going to a Story Slam hosted by The Moth is actually one of my favorite things to do in the city…read more The story slams happen 4-6 times a month at various locations around Manhattan and Brooklyn (see the website for schedule). Each slam has a different theme. If you feel that you have a worthy 5-min story, you can put your name in the bag, where they draw out names. Ten storytellers go up and these stories are judged by three teams of judges from the audience. The winner of the slam goes on to the Quarterly GrandSLAM Championship. It lasts about 2.5 hrs and costs $8. I've gone to a couple of these at the Housing Works and I'm always really impressed by the quality and talent of most of the storytellers. Many of them take this quite seriously and you can tell that they spent time crafting their story and delivery. The best stories aren't the ones that are merely funny, but they're poignant, send you on an emotional roller coaster of highs and lows, and leave you with a message and something to think about. There's a certain raw honesty and catharsis that comes through and the audience is always supportive, especially so for the new storytellers who stand up there alone and vulnerable. Indeed, if the audience feels the judges are too harsh, the audience lets the judges know. At the Story Slam at Housing Works, the doors open at 7 pm (stories start at 7:30). There are limited seats, so if you're dead set on sitting, stand in line by 5:30. There are plenty places to stand and get a good view as Housing Works' second floor is a mezzanine. Recently I got to the line by 6:30 and easily found a comfortable spot to stand and watch (wear comfortable shoes!). The ticket sales of the Story Slam goes directly to The Moth. Housing Works, which is a wonderful organization that helps people with HIV/AIDS, sells alcohol and snacks, so you're giving to a great cause by drinking.

I was paired with a small group of out of town visitors who brought their family to NYC and wanted them to experience the Accomplice. The parents of the family group were repeat guests like myself who like me absolutely enjoyed their experience several years prior and wanted to share it with their family. It's NYC so even when you participate in the live experience it may seem awkward that an actor is making a scene (literally) on the streets of NYC but nobody bats an eye cause weirdness can feel normal on the streets of Manhattan. Accomplice still has the typical tour around the small area of the city where you interact with amazing actors and make your way to the grand finally where you share a simple drink with your group to celebrate your accomplishment. The staff do offer a hotline to get clues if you are stuck but thankfully my group was witty enough to figure out our way through our adventure. Accomplice is also great for corporate team building activities. I've raved about this experience at my office for years and one of my teams decided to book with the show. Not only did my office team have an amazing time but buzz is going around the office about this show that another team was considering booking but business guests thought it would be too cold in November for such an event; such party poopers! This is truly a welcoming space, everyone can come here and be themselves. The bodies are lithe, svelte, glistening, beautiful. The acrobatics can't be matched. I am always astounded at the beauty of the erotic ballet numbers. I think those are my favorite part. The deep, soulful vocals of the diva singers can't be forgotten either. I think I've said before, I've done the couples couches and the small chairs along the stage. The small chairs are a better value and really a better view for most things, unless something is from the ceiling behind you. You can also upgrade with things like champagne and cocktails. This play is about a universal theme of love, sex and relationships. If you are looking for love,…read moreand who isn't, this show will speak to you. For me, everything in this comedic play seemed all too familiar..during the show, I kept on thinking, OMG I think I found bits and pieces of myself in all the women characters...which makes me ask myself, am I crazy?!!!??? I'm okay with that....because MEN ARE A**HOLES. One of the actors when introducing the play in the beginning and after the intermission was making the audience chant..he would say Women are crazy because men are........and the audience, made up of mostly females said......A**HOLES!!!!!!! It felt therapeutic to shout it out loud! I was really getting into it...I looked at my boyfriend and he was making a frowny face. ahahha. I was trying to get him to chant A**HOLES too but he wouldn't bite. He said men are a**holes because they used to be hunters...okay. ahahhahah. That's why I love him! He's my hunter, now go hunt! This play reminds me of the book, Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus. The play is set at one of the character's home, Nicole is throwing a soiree to celebrate meeting her internet fling for the first time, at this soiree!! Nicole invited her whole entire family to meet this internet fling that she herself never met...WHO DOES THIS??!! Nicole's family consisted of her sister and her BF, her brother and his GF, and her best friend and her BF. There was another couple that were supposed to be at the soiree but never showed up. All these couples are all having dysfunctional relationships, which makes for a funny play. This play takes a look into human nature, human relationships and human behavior. Sometimes the play may seem over the top, overly dramatic and highly passionate to get some laughter from us, but I recognize the characters all to well!! I know people just like the characters on stage in this play. I definitely have seen some of the characteristics even in myself. I felt ashamed at times...but laughed at myself! The comic timing in this show is awesome. My favorite couple is Hillary and George who never even made it to the soiree! I was laughing through the whole show. Even coming back from the intermission was fun! Be forewarned, women are going to be portrayed as psychotic beings, men are going to be portrayed as insensitive liars and we all need each other in unhealthy ways. But at the end it's all for laughs and for fun which this play definitely accomplishes...I would highly recommend this entertaining show for any adult who has been through dating or relationship angsts. This show is definitely Rated R for RAUNCHY! See it if you want to laugh your A** off! Last day of show is June 21, HURRY!
