Came here on 1/29/2025 and had such a great experience! From the moment we sat down, the service was amazing. The servers were all incredibly attentive, friendly, and checked in on us throughout the meal without being overbearing. It really made the whole dining experience feel welcoming and relaxed. We also checked out the happy hour, which had some pretty decent prices, definitely a great option if you're looking to grab drinks and a few bites without spending too much. Gonzalez y Gonzalez is a lively Mexican restaurant + bar with a stage and dance floor. It's spacious, but gets extremely packed as the night goes on. It's well decorated with Mexican-themed wall art and neon lighting. It's a great atmosphere for celebrations or a date night, especially if you love to dance and listen to Spanish music. They clear the dining tables at 11pm to make room for a dance floor. They also host free salsa dance lessons and have live salsa bands on select days (mostly the weekends). Check the calendar on their website for the dates! We came here on a Friday night close to midnight. We waited in line for about 15 minutes or so until we got in. Be aware that there's a $20 cover charge (CASH ONLY) and a $3 coat check per item. They are strict about checking in jackets, bags, and hats. It was packed like SARDINES in there, but we still had a great time listening to the live salsa band and dancing the night away! We came here for the first time a few months ago. We went on a Thursday night which was a salsa night. The salsa band and the instructor were great! They are five stars. After the band finished there was a DJ, the DJ did a great job, played various types of music ( salsa, merengue etc.) The other customers were great! friendly people and some were really great dancers. The restaurant staff wasn't the best, the bartender' attitude changed once we mentioned our Groupon. Other staff didn't smile nor greet. I found the guac to be kind of bland but it is made table side which is cool. I think people mainly come here for the live salsa band on weekends and bar/lounge. It's def what keeps me coming back. Came for dinner after watching NYU game and plus wifey loves Mexican food. Ordered a variety of things - MIL got steak tacos, wifey got a steak burrito, lil man got shrimp empanadas, and I got fried shrimp and calamari. We also got chips and guacamole for the table. Overall food was pretty good. Lil man didn't like his shrimp empanadas though - he said too much vegetables and not enough shrimp. The burrito tasted fine. MIL liked her tacos. And the fried shrimp and calamari was lightly fried and tasted fine. We were seated right away. Had to show ID at the front, which I have never done before anywhere else but was not bothered by it. Inside was dark. Hard to see the plates. Service was good. The waiter made our guacamole table side and it tasted great. The only thing was we had to wait a bit for the waiter to come around to ask for the check. But then again there was maybe two servers working. Overall a pleasant experience. After calling to inquire about their Groupon, I spoke with Stephanie, who was truly a delight! Her energy was EVERYTHING--warm, welcoming, and instantly got us excited for our visit. We started with the Mezcal Mussels, which came in a flavorful sauce with toasted bread (we immediately wanted more!). For entrées, we had the Chicken Chimichanga and Chuletas Al Pastor, both solid choices. And the churros? Unexpectedly AMAZING! Crispy, warm, and perfectly dusted with cinnamon sugar. For drinks, I had the Spicy Jalapeño Margarita, while my partner went for the Mango Margarita--both hit the spot. As self-proclaimed foodies, while this wasn't the best Mexican food we've ever had, it was undeniably a solid choice for good eats, great value, and an even better vibe. The restaurant's ambiance is quite pleasant, and I really appreciate the location. It is relatively small and compact, which can give the impression of being more crowded than it actually is. The appetizer boards had a little bit of everything (Buffalo wings, potato croquettes, etc) nothing Mexican funny enough. They made fresh Guac in front of you which was nice. The entrees themselves were decently sized and flavorful. I had the enchiladas de mole and they were good but didn't taste like it had much seasoning. Accessible via various trains that include the B, D, F, 6, R, etc., it is close to the popular Angelika Movie Theater and blocks away from other hang-out spots and stores. When I arrived to Gonzalez y Gonzalez, I was fascinated by the beautifully painted mural-styled art/pictures on the walls as well as their vibrantly colorful stage area. Gonzalez y Gonzalez has colorful decor, dope lightning fixtures / arrangements, a cool bar area, etc. It is clean and the bathroom facility is in the basement of the establishment - Please do not wait until you really have to go because it takes some minutes to reach the bathroom stalls-lol. We went last Sunday and my friend made a dinner reservation for 7pm. Gonzalez y Gonzalez has multiple cocktails, appetizers, entrees & desserts. She had the Tequila Jumbo Shrimp (medium spicy) -dish was sauteed w/ red & green peppers, onions, tequila & served w/ white rice, avocado slices and garnished w/ crispy guajillo chili. I had the Crispy Skin Salmon - Pan Seared Salmon w/ garlic mashed potatoes sauteed asparagus & tortilla strips, garnished w/ cilantro & surrounded by Lobster Chipotle Sauce. We had such delicious, well-seasoned entrees. She let me taste some of her Mezcal Margarita, which was delightfully smoky & good tasting. We then stayed for the 8pm Free Bachata Dance Class / Free Bachata Lesson w/ Dance Instructor Migdalia Santiago. It was a 30-minute dance lesson and staff cleared out the dining tables & seats to make room for us patrons to dance on the floor. Migdalia was fun, bubbly and full of positive, infectious energy as she led the Bachata Class / Bachata Dance Lesson. Migdalis let us know at the end of class that she instructs Salsa/Bachata dance at Gonzalez y Gonzalez on other days & times. For the duration of our visit, reggaeton music , meringue music, etc. blasted and people danced the evening away. If you like Salsa / Bachata Dancing, then this is a great place for you. Food and drinks are okay but it takes a really really really long time to make order cause there's only one or two bartenders for a bar the length of the whole building. We had the guac and salsa with chips, chimichangas, a shrimp burrito, the chicken & steak fajitas, the love martini, and the mexican sea breeze. Celebrated a birthday here with a group of friends. We had a 8:30pm resy for a Friday night. This works out great if you want to stay for salsa dancing. The ambiance is cool with colorful chili peppers draped around the bar, artistic mural along the wall, and the giant sombrero. Menus are only via QR code, which is a challenge with spotty cell service there. We tried to get a recommendation on a drink or Margarita. No advice just simply 'they are all good.' As vegetarians we were looking for options but felt very rushed. The server came by multiple times despite us not having much time to review the menu. We got Guac for the table which they make in front of you. Nice touch. Pretty good but could have given more chips with the two avocados we used. I ordered the vegetarian burrito. The portion is huge but sadly very bland and mostly full of rice. I expected beans and veggies. Comes with a side salad heavily drenched in dressing. Other items ordered were okay...veggie quesadillas & nachos. The mole sauce isn't vegetarian so we couldn't get that. The best items were probably the vegan taco salad and guac. As for drinks they gave the Passionfruit and basic Margarita on the rocks in festive cups with a cactus stand. However the rest of the Margs came in basic boring glasses. The fruit whisky looked like a kids cup. I had to remind them it was my birthday though I indicated it earlier. So you can choose one dessert item. They put a sombrero on you (that you can keep) and bring out your dessert. They tried to light the candle a few times and gave up. So there was no candle to blow out. There were also 1-2 candles on our table always out. Maybe they could replace these with electronic candles? Dancing doesn't technically begin until after 10pm yet we had people dancing around us. Someone came to our table to stamp us ensuring we could stay for dancing after. Otherwise there is a $20 cover the come for dancing only. We felt very rushed to wrap so they could table our table out and open the dance floor. A bit awkward that folks are dancing and there are still other table seated & dining. The first hour there is DJ playing a mix of music. There is nowhere to store leftovers or the birthday sombrero. You either have to dance with it or drop it in coat check for $3 per item. Not worth it so they disposed of it. Security is very strict constantly circling around if anyone leaves a hat, scarf, food or anything anywhere they are on it instantly! At midnight a live band is on stage singing salsa music. They were great! This is when it starts getting very crowded. There is a restroom on the lower level which is a journey to get to. This is also where coat check is. We left close to 1am and there was a line to get in. Overall, food & service are lacking and felt very rushed. However, the live music & salsa dancing are fun. I'd suggest going on a Thursday night when cover is $10 and they have salsa lessons. The band also starts playing earlier. read more

Went there yesterday for Salsa Saturdays and it was horrible. Haven't been there in many years and was surprised at the smaller location. It's tiny, overly crowded, bad DJ, and on top of that some idiot bouncer kept walking through the dance floor along the wall to pick up bottles and cups interrupting everyone dancing in the already tiny space. DJ played good songs but had a horrible mix so it was hard to follow and going to coat check on the way out found roaches crawling around. Disgusting. Oh my gosh, we had such a blast at this salsa club!!! I think the thing I was most impressed by with this place is how organized they are - from the second you step foot there is a clear direction of where you go, where you coat check, pointers to the bathroom, then arrows to the bar and dancefloor - everything is a well-oiled machine to stay organized! I really liked that they switched music throughout the night - they would play reggaeton music and then switch to an AMAZING live band! We only came for the nightlife part but I think a lot of people like to come here for dinner and then change their shoes out! I would 1000% come back! We came to New York for our nieces graduation from NYU, she suggested this place for drinks and dance! They had a salsa instructor that gave a 1/2 hour free salsa class, before the dancing began. We danced and drank our asses off! Such a great vibe. If you get there by 8:00pm there is still table service. After 9:00, tables get removed for Salsa dancing! There is a coat checkin and bathrooms at the basement level. Lady down there that keeps it clean and has chucherias that you can buy. Around 9:30pm ish l, live Salsa band! In love . I would have lunch with my coworkers and sometimes I would eat alone. I loved the Tacos and the Burritos. They prepared the dishes for me just as I specifically asked them due to my allergies. I have to say I don't remember the dance club. I always sat at a table for two. The tables were lined up as you enter. You could just take a seat and in no time you were taken care of. It's very cute inside and I love the music and decor, BUT the security guards are very abusive and nasty. Me and my friends waited on a long line and paid a fee for come in just to barely be able to move inside and then got SHOVED by the body guard(yes he put his hands on me and pushed me).
