One of the brighter spots to come out during the pandemic, The Ready Cantina (aka "The Ready Rooftop") became an instant hit in the East Village with cocktails galore, stellar views of Lower Manhattan, and a solid selection of Mexican fare. (#1) A product of the Tao Group, the rooftop was supposed to be a casual place for gatherings, backyard vibes, complete with garden-like aesthetics to keep the floral spirit alive in the EV, typically known for its grit and artistic scene. The retractable roof means this is a year round venue and a space that is ideal for group and date action. The most popular time is the happy hour, which is daily from 4pm-7pm and 12-3pm on weekends. Drink deals include $6 beers, $9 micheladas, $11 margaritas and frozen margaritas for $14. (#2). The Mexican fare isn't mind blowing by any standard, especially given the price. Tacos go for a cool $7 each and the "baja snacks" are bar food appropriate with nachos ($16/$36, quesadillas ($14), chips and salsa ($14), and chicharron ($14). When in doubt, shoot for the chicken tinga, which is really just rotisserie chicken, tomato drenched in a chipotle adobo salsa. Service varies big time. While walk-ins are doable, reservations are the way to go. The larger the group, the more likely one is needed even during their slower days of the week. There is a slight pretension with some of the bartenders, which is why I tend to prefer being served via a cocktail waitress, even if the wait is a tinge longer. Ultimately, the sell is being able to drink, mingle, and eat with a view of the city. I really liked this place because they had good happy hour deals but when we got there it was very crowded and it took them a while to take our order. The DJ was playing great music if you like a little bit of everything. I did not taste the food so I cannot talk about that. The bar is on the roooftop of the Moxy hotel. You check in downstairs and then take an elevator up to the roof. The elevator is slow but pretty big so you can fit into a decent amount of people in one ride. The rooftop is not so big but they have bar seating, some couch seatings and high top tables. They have a food counter where you can order some light bites. The bathroom is located down 3 flights of stairs and is gender neutral. There's a male bathroom attendant sitting inside which is a little off putting if you're a woman using the restroom. The bathroom has no AC and on a hot weekend, it was so hot in there. Generally, the bathroom was clean. I was not feeling well so I skipped on drinking here. My friends had some Modelo and cocktails. It took forever for a waiter to even approach us at our reserved table (30 min + after being seated) and then a while to get the food, which is very below average. The limited food options and drinks are of course outrageously overpriced as well, which would be fine if it was a good time, but this is far from the case as you can read from my nightmare of an experience here. I came here for their Happy Hour deal, which i s $1 tacos and $9 margaritas. This Happy Hour deal runs Tuesday - Friday, 4pm-6pm and Saturday - Sunday, 12pm-3pm. It's great that the offer exists on the weekend so you're competing with people after work. Logistics: I made a reservation about a week in advance for a 12pm on a sunday and had no problems doing so. They have someone check your ID downstairs and then they direct you down a hallway toward the back where there is an elevator to take to the rooftop. I rode the elevator a few times and no one has ever gotten off on a floor other than lobby and elevator so I'm not sure if this is actually connected to the Moxy. After getting upstairs, we were seated right away. You order and pay from a QR code so there wasn't much interaction with the waitstaff, which is great for people who just want to eat in peace without getting interrupted. It makes leaving easy as well so you don't have to ask for the check and wait for everything to come back as the place does get very busy. Be sure to read the description when ordering. The pictures may show 3 tacos (and it lists it as $7) so it makes sense to assume it's 3 tacos, but the description says " single taco." Decor: The interior looks exactly like the pictures and instagram posts I've seen that charmed me into coming here (along with the great deal on tacos). It's very aesthetic and the couches and pillows lined up against the windows were comfy. The abundant sunshine from the windows was really warm and nice on a cold winter day. It did feel a bit warm after awhile like we were sitting in a greenhouse. Food: The tacos being $1 were very good. It was a bit disappointing that the $1 menu only had the chicken tinga option and the mushroom & corn option to choose from as this was not stated on the website. The regular menu has al pastor and beef brisket barbacoa at the same price. I'm just a bit confused how the regular menus price each single taco at $7. that's a very stark difference than the happy hour prices. I'd come back only at the happy hour price point. I'd like to start by saying that this establishment is absolutely beautiful. The ambiance is stunning, though it does give off a bit of a superficial, "you can't sit with us" vibe. That said, the service left a lot to be desired. I visited on Cinco de Mayo with three friends. We were running late, and I appreciated that the staff was understanding about that. Unfortunately, things took a turn once we got upstairs. Our interactions from that point on felt dismissive and rude. It began with our server. One of my friends asked about a cocktail listed on the menu, wanting to confirm whether it contained alcohol. His response? "Read the menu," delivered in a condescending tone. It was uncomfortable and unnecessary. To make it worse, the menu gave no indication that cocktails required additional liquor to be added--it simply listed them as cocktails, and every other drink in that section included alcohol. We felt like we were being gaslit the entire evening. He then told us the restaurant didn't serve frozen margaritas--odd, since they were advertised online for Cinco de Mayo and we could literally see other tables enjoying them. When we pointed that out, he snapped, "I work here, so obviously I know what's on the menu." He then claimed that our menu was outdated, even though it looked exactly the same as everyone else's--ours just wasn't laminated. Feeling frustrated, I spoke with management. They confirmed that frozen margaritas were indeed available. Another waitress overheard and tried to help us, but our server quickly returned and offered a half-hearted apology, saying he hadn't been made aware of the menu changes. Mind you, the restaurant had only opened at 4PM, so that explanation didn't make much sense. Just as we finally started to settle in and enjoy ourselves, a host came over to tell us we had 15 minutes left at our table because of another reservation. She said we could stay if the next party didn't show up, but otherwise we'd have to leave. It felt unfair, especially since we'd spent so much of our visit dealing with confusion and poor service. The least they could've done was extend our time a bit as a courtesy. Mistakes happen--we get that. But the rude attitude, gaslighting, and general disregard for our experience made the whole night feel dismissive and disrespectful. The setting is undeniably gorgeous, but based on how we were treated, I'm not sure I'd return. If you're looking for aesthetics over hospitality, maybe this place is for you. The place was mostly empty and our group of 7 was seated in a more covered part of the rooftop which was nice. There are only three taco options, one of which is $2 (supreme, mushroom and corn, and chicken) and they only have one classic margarita flavor. I wish there was more variety, but for the price, I was pretty satisfied! It really does irk me to write a bad review. I hate doing it. But at times, it is my civic duty to do so. Before I get into it, I need to shoutout the doorman. Fine, I don't expect everyone to meet me with a smile. When he made the spritz's, he first poured the Aperol, then Prosecco, then the soda water to the top. He didn't mix the spritz at all. It was straight soda water on top. Okay fine. I'll mix it myself. I proceed to ask for straws so we can mix and drink our drinks. "What?" he responds in the most monotone/annoyed voice you have ever heard. "2 straws" I say looking him dead in the eyes. Now I'm tight. "You want straws?" He asks me again like I just asked him to go downstairs to the super market to go buy straws. "Yes." I say in a combative tone as I have now been challenged for whatever reason. He rolls his eyes and gets straws. He mumbles something, "What was that?" I say in a diffusing tone trying to restore the peace, because I catch myself and realize there is no reason to escalate this. "I said $41.37." He says piercing daggers through my eyes.. The chicken tacos were super yummy and honestly 4 will get you full! An interesting badge concept to deliver the tacos to you haha. This was definitely a nice experience coming here. This was my first rooftop bar, and it was really nice! When my friends and I got there, we didn't realize reservations were pretty much needed for the tables, but one of the hostesses quickly gave us a table once a reservation was canceled. She was very nice. The bartender and server were also friendly, our server made sure we were hydrated and comfortable. The decor of the space was so cute and comfy, I would've just chilled with a couple of drinks with my girls. The tacos, chips, and guac were pretty good as well. I especially liked the chicken tacos. I don't usually eat them, but these were cooked just right. The only reason this didn't get 5 stars was because certain aspects of the space and happy hour options. The menu is only 3 options: Chicken or Mushroom tacos, and a $9 margarita, just the classic one. In Baltimore, all the happy hour spots I've been to have a decent selection of drinks and food. This was just sad. I'm not sure if their chicken and mushroom tacos are their most popular, but to only have two options is crazy. Lastly I wish they had at least more fans and shade around the space. A good portion of the rooftop is out in the sun with minimal cooling devices. That's definitely just my personal preference, but I think it would do well to add some little fans in spaces where the sun is shining the most. Overall my experience was very well.
