Thanks to Yelp for helping me discover this place, which I never would have found on my own! We came for brunch on a weekday, and the food and drinks were ah-mazing. The one thing that disappointed was the lack of nice outdoor seating - there were a couple tiny tables out front, but they weren't shaded from the sun and also seemed unprotected from the local homeless population. Fortunately when we arrived, the cafe wasn't too crowded, so we grabbed a table by the door and hoped for the best (COVID numbers are rising right now in LA). There didn't seem to be a comprehensive menu but there were many cute menus with pictures by the register. Everything sounded so good that it was really hard to choose, but I ended up getting the shine muscat ade and pistachio fig toast, while hubby ordered a decaf honey bee and egg cheese sandwich. Highly recommend all those things! The muscat ade was like an elevated fizzy grape juice (but much better because I don't normally like grape juice), and hubby said his drink tasted like a cinnamon roll - not sure I entirely agree with that assessment, but it was delicious. Couldn't finish the pistachio fig toast because it was so filling, but it is probably one of the best French toasts in LA at the moment - so soft you could cut it with a fork without being soggy. The figs were high quality. No actual pistachios, but pistachio butter. And not too sweet (that's how you know this is an Asian cafe, lol). The egg cheese sandwich was also delicious - all the flavors melded together wonderfully, and the potatoes were nice and crispy on the outside and soft on the inside. The interior of the cafe was very cute, and even though we were sitting right by the speakers, the music wasn't too loud. Gender-specific individual restrooms in the back - look for the keys on the table in the back of the main area, and if you're blind like me, bring a flashlight so you can see the keyhole, lol. Overall Gong Gan is a very cute cafe that provides all the style but none of the substance. I got the corn americano, while my friends got the corn latte and an iced tea drink. My corn americano tasted very watered down. The coffee didn't have much flavor and instead seemed to rely on the corn cream top to give the drink its taste. I tried my friend's corn latte and while it was the best out of the three drinks we had tried, I have definitely had better. The iced tea also tasted like water with very little green tea flavor. When I went to the barista and asked if it was possible to remake my corn americano in a 12 oz cup so there would be less water. She said she could not do that as the corn americano just comes in a 16 oz cup. I did not finish my drink and left disappointed that I spent $7+ with tip for a drink I did not enjoy. I ended up walking down sunset for a second coffee to get my caffeine fix. Overall a cute cafe with beautiful drinks. It has a nice aesthetic to take a picture in, but if you enjoy any type of flavor in your drinks I would skip it and try a different coffee shop on the street. read more

[ADDED after owner response - I'm aware the "matchaest" that my friend got is supposed to have powder on top. The regular matcha latte that I ordered had clumps at the bottom meaning it wasn't whisked well. I didn't want a matchaest because I don't like cream tops, so I wish the plain matcha came with an advertised sweet option. I don't recall seeing any syrup add-ons with prices. Ordering a cream top drink minus the cream makes less sense than you just offering a sweetened plain latte. Not sure why you'd recommend ordering it that way. Anyways, I know I can just ask for sweetener but at the end of the day, I simply didn't like the matcha. Also, I think standard is 16oz especially for this price.] I didn't like my matcha latte. It was $9.33 with oat milk :\ SO pricey. I wish I got a different angle to show how small the cup was and how there were clumps of matcha powder. Yum! @hat a cute, colorful, and fun cafe! Came to Gong Gan on a Saturday around 10am and it was pretty empty. My husband and I ended up ordering: Dark Latte, Black Sesame Latte, Spicy Bacon Egg Sandwich, and Mushroom Cream Baguette. We really enjoyed everything! The coffees were great. As a chocolate lover, I really enjoyed my dark chocolate latte and the black sesame latte was fantastic too! The Spicy Bacon Egg Sandwich was good and tasted just like I'd imagined (wish the bacon was rendered a bit more). The Mushroom Cream Baguette was surprising as I didn't know I'd like it so much. I'm so glad I finally got a try Gong Gan, I've had my eye on the meringue Affogato for so long! And it lived up to the hype for me. It is such a gorgeous drink, the meringue cookies are so light and fluffy and pair perfectly with the bitterness of the espresso and the creaminess of the gelato. I came in around 3 PM on a Saturday and was able to find paid street parking easily. There are only a few designated spots in the adjacent lot. The cafe itself wasn't crowded, there were a few empty tables for my friend and I to sit at. I got a tuna melt from the brunch menu and the Matchaest Kagoshima (their bestselling matcha item). The open-faced sandwich was flavorful, especially with their spicy sauce on the side. The matcha was also good, being a bit on the sweeter/creamier side since it's a cream top drink. Corn Cream -best corn latte I've had, creamy and not too sweet. Strong corn flavor shines through the espresso. Bits of dehydrated corn kernels added just the right amount of texture. Matchaest -matcha was just right and creamy. Solid matcha latte. Black Sesame Latte -opted to add espresso shot, coffee wasn't as strong as I'd like it to be. We were only able to stop by for some drinks this time, but we're definitely going to come back for the food and dessert. The inside of Gong Gan is decorated like a giant cute, kitschy gift shop. I was obsessed with the blue furry lamp and the giant disco bean. Even the restrooms were decorated very well! We ordered the Black Sesame Latte, Gong Gan Latte, Corn Cream, and Butter Latte. I was most excited to try the Black Sesame Latte and the Corn Cream, but I actually ended up loving the Butter Latte the most! Don't get me wrong - all the drinks here are absolutely amazing. But my favorite drinks of the day were the Butter Latte and the Black Sesame Latte. You could definitely taste the butter in the Butter Latte, and you could definitely taste the black sesame in the Black Sesame Latte. It is located in a small strip mall type area with limited parking, but they do provide reserved parking for their patrons which is listed on their website. I was lucky enough to find street parking and it was just a short walk over. I came on a Saturday evening and it was actually pretty quiet with just a few patrons inside and outside. Upon entering, it looked exactly like the photos on Yelp. Very artsy, but it did not wow me as much as I expected. The lady at the front greeted me, but service was just OK and not overly friendly. It was toward the end of the night, so maybe she was just tired. We ended up ordering a strawberry latte, the matcha affogato, and the pig bar croffle. We grabbed a seat and everything came out within a few minutes. The drinks were very pretty and aesthetic. I especially loved the layers of the strawberry latte and the matcha affogato looked beautiful as well. Unfortunately, the taste did not quite match the presentation. The strawberry latte just did not impress me, and the matcha affogato, while visually stunning, was just OK. The croffle, however, was the highlight for me. It was warm, gooey, and everything you would want in a warm dessert paired with something cold. I enjoyed that the most. Overall, I did enjoy checking this place out, but I would not go out of my way to come back. I would give it a strong 3.5 stars. read more

Am I the last one to hear about Cilantro-ade??? Yes you heard it right...a cilantro refresher. Imagine an iced limeade with fresh mint and hint of cilantro herb. Of course can't forget the decorative bunch of cilantro leaves that's soaked into the refresher. Don't be afraid, the cilantro isn't overpowering but it gives a perfect amount of herbal aroma. Wish they added a little more kimchee to it (but I am Korean so I do enjoy a heavier kimchee flavoring). I can't remember, but I know it doesn't automatically come with it anymore, that's what I was told) The drink is so tasty, but I just wish it were in a bigger cup. Definitely lots of photo worthy little corners, and everything inside the cafe down to the napkins has been customized to fit the vibe of the cafe. This place makes me think of themed cafes in Korea. Both the earl grey blueberry and plain french toast were amazing. I especially liked the plain one because the crispiness of the outside keeps for longer. The butter is even in an angel shape. This place is SO SO SO cute! They were so thoughtful and intentional with all the details including the décor, the furniture, and just overall the vibe, everything feels curated and perfect . I got the corn coffee and it was good but I'll just say to be careful with the cornbread on top it's a little dry and very chokeable lol. But the foam was very good One downside was that there was an item on the menu I really wanted to order but it was no longer available which was disappointing but I understand. I ended up getting the tuna toast instead and I personally wouldn't recommend it. it was basically straight tuna on very toasted bread, almost too toasted. I think even a little arugula or avocado on top would have made a big difference. For $10 I expected a lil more and it did come on a very small plate so it felt a bit underwhelming. From the inviting and quirky interior to the incredibly unique menu to the way the sunlight filters softly through the windows...this place instantly makes you feel like you found somewhere special.
