Good experience overall! I ordered the milk green tea (hot, half sugar) with black pearls. It tasted pretty good - not too sweet and green tea flavor was strong. The store itself was modern and clean. There was some seating along the side of the store but not much. We were lucky to get a spot to sit, but there were quite a few people in line after us. I had excellent service here and enjoyed my caramel milk tea with black boba. I am not usually a huge boba fan and will get it on a special occasion with friends who really like boba (ha ha, peer pressure). But I can say I really liked the drink and even enjoyed the boba which I usually find a tasteless, chewy addition. Gong Cha's black boba seemed a little sweet which to me, made them taste better. I usually will leave a generous handful of boba at the bottom of my cup, but this time I ate them up! I was skeptical about this boba place because of the mixed reviews but I honestly had a pleasant experience and enjoyed the drinks I ordered. I've had boba at various restaurants (like Sweet Hut and KoKai Thai) and I feel like Gong Cha's boba selection and flavor is the best. The black boba was the perfect texture and had a subtle sweetness which was truly enjoyable. Sometimes you get a mouthful of boba and you're left with chewing down a glob with no flavor, but the slight sweetness of Gong Cha's boba made it delightful to eat. I felt like I could just snack on their boba and be perfectly content! I appreciate that you can select your beverage's ice and sweetness level. This was unexpected and I opted to go with 50% ice and 50% sweetness. I felt like the 50% sweetness was perfect. Drinks that are super sweet can be overwhelming and too rich. The 50% sweetness made the drinks more refreshing and allowed you to taste the flavors better and not just sugar. The 2 drinks I had were the green tea milk foam and the strawberry taro. Between the two, I definitely enjoyed the green tea one the best. The strawberry taro tasted a bit too artificial for me. I let my husband try it and he said it tasted like cereal milk, specifically Capt Crunch Berries! I preferred the green tea milk foam's refreshing, clean flavor. The slight bitterness that lingers with green tea paired perfectly with the semi sweet boba and creamy milk. I would love to come back to Gong Cha. It is just okay. I was here with my friends on Friday for their grand opening weekend. I knew it would be busy and that the wait would be long... I guess i just didn't think it'd be an hour and 45+ minutes to order and to get the drinks. I read many reviews regarding the a/c. There were fans cooling down the room, so this wasn't an issue for me. I ordered a black milk tea with 50% sugar and boba with less ice. I also tried my friend's earl grey milk tea at 50% sugar as well as another friend's oolong milk tea at 0% sugar. I thought that all the teas were quite bland. However, I really don't like their oolong tea. I've had Gong Cha in New York and I also didn't enjoy it there. They're out of white pearls and have been all weekend. Overall, my first visit wasn't worth the wait and the tea was nothing special. I came back today on Labor Day. Yes, it's a holiday and it may be very busy. Yes, it is busy. The line to order is not nearly as long as it was on Friday, but nobody sitting down is enjoying a drink. Everyone in the store is waiting for their drinks. What is making this process take so long? They have way more than enough workers, but either everyone is still learning or it could be that their set up for making drinks is inefficient. Either way, I've never spent so much time waiting for drinks and should have left because it was not worth it. Also, still no white pearl. I do have to say the staff members are very apologetic for the wait and reminded everyone that it will be a while. I was quoted 30 mins, but it's been 35 mins and counting and they're nowhere near my number order. I waited about 1 hour and 10 minutes total for my drink and it's actually even more disappointing than the first time I tried it. It doesn't even taste like tea, just sugar water. I wanted to like this place, but I really couldn't. First of all, it's an hour long wait for MILK TEA. I understand they just opened, but a multitude of tea shops in the area were never this bad during their grand opening. At one point, they were churning out ONE tea per FIVE minutes, and there were 9 people working all at once at one point. Also, they really need to enunciate when they're calling out orders; I barely heard my order get called due to the lady barely calling out my number. Now onto the tea. With the HOUR long wait, I was expecting this tea to be the freaking bomb dot com. When I got my large Milk Foam Oolong Tea, I took one sip and was already disappointed. I even followed the instructions and was let down. The milk foam was standard salty cream, but the tea,,,,,, I wanted tea, not water. White boba for those that have never had it, has a gelatin texture like aloe. Right now is the soft opening so I don't think they offer the full menu yet. Wait: THE WAIT IS LOOOOONNNNGGG. To simply begin the review with, my aunt and her daughter was eager to buy some milk tea for themselves after supposedly there being "50% discount" on all drinks. They waited 30 minutes in line to order. After their long wait for a small order in which completely BS'ed the "50% off" by practically giving normal prices they sat and waited for their 2 drinks to be finished. 30 minutes into waiting, her daughter is rightfully upset. An hour in and she is about to cancel the order but all the precious time given into 2 drinks would go into vain. After a total of an 1 hour and 30 minutes in total she was finally called by her number and given her drinks. It was very simply put as a disappointing experience. The taste was neither extraordinary or unique. It is very similar to many other places that sell milk tea. Going back to the 50% discount situation, I believe they either lied about it to attract the mass amount of people coming to the grand opening for profit or had carelessly forgotten their own promised deals. Out of common and polite etiquette, I did not remind the cashier of it and I didn't care much of it but would like to point that out in this review. I will not blame Gong Cha for most of its difficulties and slow process as it was their first day on the day of the grand opening dealing with a large crowd and sum of people. I respect Gong Cha's apologies for all the complications but however won't come back for some time. I went to Texas 2 months ago and had the Gong Cha there. It was amazing and I was so excited to hear that Gong Cha was coming to Georgia. I really wanted to like this place. I waited out the whole opening rush and madness that usually happens when a new place opens up. When I finally had a chance to try it, I was so disappointed. My girlfriend had the oolong milk tea and we both agreed that it literally tasted like creamy water. I had the mango smoothie and I can still taste the powder residue in it. Overall I had a good experience and I find the drinks not too bad. Some drinks are better than others. Here are what I like from them and would order again: (ice is depending on the weather outside so that's varies from person to person) - Oolong milk tea - regular sugar. - peach green tea - 50% sugar - lychee green tea - 30% sugar There were other drinks, but I can't remember whether or not I liked them. I guess they were okay but not memorable for me to order again. The workers were pretty nice when I ordered and had to review my orders to ensure they got it correct. I tend to come when they are super busy which I think is key. Usually when you come when it's super busy or when it's grand opening, people are rushing, drinks be coming out slower than usual and there will be bound to be miscommunication. Each time I come here, minus the first time, my drinks are done within 3 minutes (I usually order 3 or more). The first time, I came slightly after their grand opening and it took 7 minutes to get 1 drink, so I'll assume they had gotten their drink making time fix. Another new bubble tea spot in the Duluth area. Gong Cha is actually a chain that is pretty prevalent on the West Coast but is now making it's debut in the Metro Atlanta Area. It is very similar to all the other bubble tea spots but this one is more on the traditional side since it originates from Taiwan. They can serve pretty much all of their teas both cold and hot with toppings such as boba, jelly, and red bean. Unfortunately, no fruit toppings which is my go to since I prefer the fruit-based teas. Just an average rating due to the newness of the establishment. They still haven't figured out all their kinks and are a little disorganized while the line moves very slowly so give it a while before you come check this place out. read more

I honestly don't know why y'all trippin' on here because Gong Cha was bomb when I came through the other night. I was the only one and the workers greeted me and welcomed me in from the cold. I think I got the winter melon milk foam tea and it was delicious! That milk foam is FIRE!! It had a sweet and salty taste which I really enjoyed but was just a bit slightly too creamy/heavy of a texture. I'd still get it again though. The texture of the boba was also on point; it had the perfect chewiness and was the right amount of sweet. Despite reading the bad reviews prior to coming in, I still gave this place a shot because I needed bubble tea in my blood, and I'm glad I gave this place a chance! I'd love to come back if I'm ever in ATL again. Next time, I'll get the bigger-sized cup because I definitely drank that thing too fast. read more

I finally paid this place a visit after hearing/seeing all the hype when it first opened. Disclaimer- I'm not a huge fan of bubble tea so take this review with a grain of salt. They had an extensive menu of different milk teas, tea, tea foam, and smoothies, etc. I'm currently in a Taro phase and so I ordered the Taro smoothie with 50% sugar. The taste wasn't anything special and I didn't get any toppings so there isn't much to say about this. It was a typical Taro smoothie. My 2 friends got Earl grey milk tea foam and oolong milk tea foam with black pearls. The Earl grey was saltier than the oolong but odd enough to say, both of them were salty. It was such a strange experience for my taste buds. Kung Fu Tea sets the bar pretty high with tapioca balls or as they call it here, "black pearls" -- and I wasn't impressed. Not really chewy. We stayed here for about 45-50 minutes and they literally played the same song the entire time. "My Love - Westlife" I had never heard the song before but we all knew the lyrics by the time we left. Compared to other reviews, I did not mind the broken AC. I've tasted a couple of other Gong Cha stores in NY and Toronto. Their grand opening day on 8/30 was to say the least, a hot mess. However, I'm a very patient person and understand it's hard to gauge a smooth new store opening. First mistake my friend and I made was to visit the store after dinner time. The store was PACKED with a line looping around in the store and you couldn't tell where the line ended. There were tons of people waiting outside because there wasn't enough space to wait either. We chose to wait. The AC was down, but they had a few fans and two individual AC machines blowing but regardless if there was AC, the place would be hot anyway with all these customers inside waiting to order. For their special, it is BOGO (Buy 1 Get 2nd Half off) I ordered the Wintermelon Milk Foam with Boba (this is my usual). This drink, in general, is sweet across the board and you CANNOT change the sugar level (however I do get away with it at some boba spots). The tea itself is pre-sweetened. When I was in Toronto, it was hands down the only place that I loved the Wintermelon tea. So of course, I had to get it once I knew they were opening a store here in Georgia. It was sweet, but not overpoweringly sweet like other places (ShareTea/TeaTop). I'd probably order this again. My friend originally ordered Oolong Milk Foam. She wanted the green tea but at this time (10:25pmish) the cashier said they had ran out of green tea. So she opted for Oolong. We waited for about 10 minutes and then our number was called (you know, assuming our order was ready), but they had called our number because they said that they had ran out of oolong tea and suggested earl grey tea. My friend was trying to avoid earl grey but had to get it anyway. At this time, they were calling a lot of people's order numbers for that same reason. My friend said that her Earl Grey Milk Foam tea was too sweet when she had asked for 30% sugar level. Granted, it wasn't her original order anyway, but they might have forgotten it was 30% sugar level. Overall, despite the broken AC, the 1hr 20 min wait time, we'd probably come here again after all the kinks are fixed. The employees kept apologizing every time there was a change and for the wait so service was alright. They just need better communication among staff if certain things have ran out instead of calling the customer twice for order changes. I'm sure the store will use this as a learning opportunity and hopefully it will flourish if changes are done. Just like other new boba spots around Atlanta. I'd say give this place a shot and be very patient. New businesses will always have problems opening day and mistakes get made all the time. So I'll probably update my review with given time. I'd say their milk tea has more milky than the actual tea taste. So depends if you like that smooth milky tea taste. They are definitely very generous with the bubbles though. I initially came on grand opening day and had to wait over an hour in very hot conditions for my somewhat watered down tea. But I came back over a week later and Gong Cha came through. Gong Cha was always one of the top brands of bubble tea and has been one of my favorites. Hearing that one was opening up near me got me excited. Going to the Grand Opening of the store yesterday, there were things I noticed. First, the A/C unit was broken and on a hot day, it was uncomfortable in there. Second, the wait was way too long. I understand that it is the Grand Opening hype and adding along with the BOGO50% off there are a lot of orders. I ordered two drinks that took me 1.5 hours to get. (I was willing to wait the 40minutes they told me initially because I already waited in line for an extra 20minutes already.) The staff based on observation were either never trained until day of or received very little training. (Again I understand that it is first day, there are kinks that need to be worked out and that it might be their first day working.) However, I still find it inexcusable for orders to be backed up for an hour and a half with orders coming out once every 10-20 minutes. At the most people should've been waiting for 30 minutes, in my opinion. Third, as of now I feel like the taste of the tea is mediocre when comparing the taste to Kung Fu Tea and ShareTea. The tapioca tastes pretty well made. Finally, as I stated before, it is the Grand opening so I'm going to give them some more time to fully train their staff and fix their kinks before my friends and I revisit. This is a modernized authentic tea franchise. Being in the heart of Duluth where bubble tea fanatics are willing to line out the door to try a new place, the expectations are high because most of us has tried all the 10+ bubble tea shops within 10 mile radius and are real critics. First, as many others complained about- the AC could not handle the grand opening crowd. To make it worse, the wait is about 30 minutes just to order. The wait to receive your drink is between 30 minutes to over an hour. So if you have at least an hour to spare for a drink, be cautious and especially patient. This crowd is quite normal in many other popular bubble tea places- so why is it taking so long? It seems that the workers were unprepared to open. They do not have a shaking machine and an automated syrup dispenser (which is surprising for it being a franchise), so each drink takes a long time to make. It is really worth the technology to speed up the process. They have over 10 staff, maybe they need to reassess their system. Now after this 1+ hour wait, are the drinks worth it? I had the milk foam green tea and milk foam Earl grey, being a fan of the salty whipped foam. Pros: The tea quality is exceptional so I was satisfied with my drink. This is exactly how I like my drinks, where you can actually taste the tea. It was the perfect amount of sweetness. The wintermelon tea definitely landed as my favorite drink. I liked the cute mustaches you can add to your straws. Cons: The tapioca wasn't that great. It was slightly undercooked and gave me a stomachache. Also, why did my drink come with so little ice and tasted slightly warm? The milk tasted a little funky too. Overall, the tea quality is good and has potential- they brew it right.
