Really good basic teas for a decent price are to be found here. Anytime I visit a new Boba joint, I always try a basic milk tea with oolong. I asked for mine to be the least sweet possible, but still found it to be a little bit sugary, but it wasn't bad. That's just honestly a personal preference of mine. My husband got a drink with some IU jelly and it was very refreshing. I can't remember the exact TV base that we used but we enjoyed it. Customer service was excellent. I love coming here for the mango milk smoothies and the teas! I came in today and the girl taking orders at the register was rude. I didn't get her name but she was wearing clear glasses, had orange hair and was African American. I get that it was busy when i came in, but when i asked if she was ready for me (the people in front were standing to the side, i wasn't sure if she was still attending them) she said "does it not look like im ready? Solid little bubble tea spot in a strip mall, it's pretty easy to miss, but I'm glad we didn't. Some spots are kind of grimy, check your table before you take a seat. The tea is great! You pick your size, flavor, how much sugar you want (I went with 50%), ice amount, and finally your toppings. Matcha w/ brown sugar, regular ice, and herbal jelly is what I went with. It's really good. The herbal jelly adds no extra sweetness. Be aware it's a little bitter, but it went really well with my drink. I hadn't had it before and was surprised. Visited this place 1st time to grab my boba tea. It is located in the lowes complex on 183 N service road . The staff was nice and helpful to help me understand and pick my drink. But the overall taste for my basic boba was good and I would love to try their milk foam drink next time. Also, they have several topping to choose and make your drink. for the Thai tea I had, it tasted like fire. This evokes a very sentimental memory for me, because fire is a very personal thing to me. And very close to my heart. The Smokey after taste was like nothing else, and it was perfectly complimented by the ice and cool milk. We were in the neighborhood and wanted boba, so we went to GongCha, what more can we say?! I recommend getting 70% or 50% sweetness, as the milk teas are super sweet (imo). The Earl Grey Milk Tea with the three J's is one of my favorites because I love the texture of herbal jelly, pudding, and boba! My friends and I came here for an after dinner treat. Boba drinks were good here.. Taro with boba was yummy. We didn't like how a worker started cleaning a table near us with a strong smelling spray. It was 8:30 and they close at 9:00 but please wait to start cleaning when there are customers in the store. I ordered a Vampire drink to go and asked for one ingredient to be left out and was told they can't change the drinks but offered to make something similar. We got the large oolong milk tea here and asked for 70% sweet and less ice. When we got the 70% sweet one, it was way too sweet. It didn't seem like that had lowered the sugar at all. Almost sweeter than many other boba places at 100%. Fortunately, when we let them know how sweet it was they made us another one at 50%. It was definitely less sweet and better than before. The boba was a little soft and overall the tea was okay. I appreciate them making the extra effort and offering to remake the drink though. read more

Gong Cha is in the same plaza as iHop and Lowe's, right next to Xian Noodles (which is worth a try btw). I'm boring and get the same thing every time, and it's pretty consistent - black milk tea with boba, 50% sugar and less ice. It's milky and still quite sweet (guessing that's due to the boba.) Now, this is a personal preference, but I do prefer their boba (tapioca) and black tea taste over Sharetea's. Plenty of seating inside with some games if that's your thing. There are a whole lot of boba places in Austin and surrounding areas that are not good. Their drinks are not as flavorful and usually hit or miss depending on who makes your drink. best part about Gong Cha is that their service and quality of the drinks seem to be the same each visit, whether we get it at a discount (they run specials on some days) or a regular rate. I am a big boba fan. Gong Cha won me over by offering Earl Grey Milk Tea. Although I am personally a creature of habit and haven't tried many of their other options I love that they have so many flavor options and add ins to entice my friends and family who aren't as obsessed with boba as I am. Surprisingly my equally boba obsessed teenager is not a fan of Gong Cha as he prefers ShareTea or Cocos. This particular location of Gong Cha is one of the roomier boba places making it a more welcoming place to stay and enjoy your drink. They even have a small collection of games. Kung Fu is the standard I judge local places against and I'm happy with the quality and consistency here. Yet another bubble tea place in Austin. Nothing about Gong Cha stands out other than the cool map decor you find in their shops and their drink sealants. I ordered the Earl grey milk tea, but it tastes just like the milk tea powder almost every bubble tea establishment uses. Not like any earl grey tea I've ever tried. The drink must've not been shaken well either because I could feel powder on my tongue every time I took a drink a few hours later, and the sugary taste was concentrated near the bottom. If I ever go again, I'll go for their bubble waffle rather than their drinks. Plenty of seating and parking is available, and the Wi-Fi is pretty fast. Gong Cha is next to Xian Noodles if you want a meal to go with your bubble tea. One of the walls has a cool mural that shows all the countries that Gong Cha has locations at. The same picture is on the drink seal cover because it's basically free advertising. I'm surprised that Gong Cha was able to expand into so many countries. I'll be sticking with Sharetea, which at least isn't close to the highway and has better drinks. read more

I came to this place right after work. They have "Happy Hour Special" from 3pm to 6pm (M-F): Middle size drink with one topping + Waffle = $5.99. I ordered a mango yogurt drink with tapioca (pearls) and Macha waffle. For the waffle, they have 3 flavors: Original, Macha, and Chocolate. Gong Cha's boba is chewy in a perfect way. The milk foam is to die for - smooth texture, sweet and salty taste. Their 100% sweetness is too sweet, so if you don't have a huge sweet tooth but still enjoy some subtle sweetness, go with 30% sugar with less ice. Immediate pros: this location is more spacious than Sharetea. On top of that, the tea tastes more authentic and closer to the teas I've tried in Taiwan than Shareteas'. (The milk tea I tried at Sharetea tasted diluted. Maybe to keep costs down?) I think a good analogy is Starbucks is to Sharetea as a Summermoon (a local austin coffee shop) is to Gong Cha. If you stop by this weekend (9/1-9/2), be sure to take advantage of the BOGO deal. Be aware you'll be waiting in line for half an hour though I'm sure waiting time will decrease substantially as the newness of the store wears off.
